On 9/4/2020, I took my dog Spike to Erdman for a bloody, swollen area surrounding his testicles. Patricia Greenfield saw him and, barely touching my pet, made a 'Flea' diagnose by observation, a visit lasting ONLY 10 minutes - as serious as that area looked, go figure. Spike was just in such BAD shape and, needless to say, back to Erdman we went as his condition worsened & paying 375 for the same issue (after paying 175 for that Greenfield misdiagnosis). Spike was then seen by Lance Keil who felt it and said he had a Tumor. After a quick test, he said Tumor had not spread & gave me a 'happy talk' prognosis that "Spike will be just fine, not in much pain" - even though he could not do the Surgery soon as they were backed up for weeks and knew then the Tumor was GROWING!! By the time of Spike's surgery, the cancer had spread and I made the heartbreaking decision to have my Beloved Dog Euthanized. Keil, giving me the sad news, added, "These Tumors spread rapidly and are often very aggressive". In my mind I was like, YOU SON OF A B***H!! Why couldn't you have told me this before rather than leading me on like that and have my pet suffer needlessly for those final weeks?!? Had I been told the truth I could have had him Euthanized then & put him out of his misery!! And then Keil, to my shock and dismay, had the gall to also say, "Spike is like 12, right? So he wouldn't have lived much longer anyway." The ABSOLUTE NERVES of that MAN!! In all seriousness, had inept Greenfield done her job right, Physically Examining my dog to begin with, Spike may have survived as I would not have wasted precious time treating him for something he did not have. with prescribed flea medication! I just cannot fathom how an Animal Doctor can just get away with such gross, negligent, and inhumane practice!! And how Keil can live with himself giving out colorful Prognosis, knowing full well the animal will suffer waiting around for a surgery that likely will end up not being a possibility!! To worsen an already horrible situation, front desk worker Kristin, when I dropped Spike off that final day, dragged my poor, scared, gravely ill Dog right across the floor on his cancer spread stomach by the leash as Spike did not walk - not wanting to leave my side. This happening in an Animal Hospital is just so Mind-Boggling & Stomach Turning!! Even more so is the fact that my strongly worded complaint against Erdman to the MD State Board of Veterinary went nowhere. The President of the Board Elizabeth Callaham just will not have this Business Establishment investigated, basically saying, in no uncertain terms, that Spike's Medical Records 'Fall within the standard of care' while failing to even address the neck dragging incident. This simply allows such negligence and harmful behavior to continue, no doubt embolden Erdman! Following Spike's Passing, I went to Greenfield, asking WHY she misled us with a Flea diagnosis. She indifferently said "I never said he had 'Fleas. I did not know what it was as it was too bloody and swollen to tell". With that, I went and got my hands on Spike's Medical Records from that day and was shocked to see all the fabrication - completely made up stuff like spike's eating, bathroom, and sleeping patterns that she never asked me about. And I have come to believe the flea misdiagnosis was made intentionally!! Lastly, there is the cage matter. You can see in pic just how uncomfortable they are for any animal to have to stand, sit, & lie down in, let alone for hours, just to make cleaning up easier for the Erdman's freaking staff! And Spike, about to be Euthanized after being in that cage for hours (from 9 am til late in afternoon), no one there just could not even be bothered with given him a blanket - to at least allow him to die with Dignity!! SHAME ON THEM!! Bottom line, Saving Money is Great if it comes with GREAT CARE! And if a diagnosis and/or a 'happy talk' prognosis made by Erdman Veterinarians do not make ANY sense to you, please follow your instinct in Spike's Honor, to save your fury baby from suffer. ***NOTICE: THIS WAS FOR AN APPOINTMENT IN MARCH 2021.*** Came here to get my older cat checkup. Due to COVID you have to call and schedule an appointment, no walking. We called and were five an appointment day and time. Parking is HORRENDOUS! They have paid parking on the side where the clinic Jo's, but there is no parking g on the other side od Erdman Ave BUT it is notoriously difficult to get a spot on this stretch. I suggest coming early to find a spot in the surrounding neighborhood, if needed. We entered the clinic, checked in and were directed to wait outside and they would call when they were ready. We were out for about 5-10 minutes when we got the call that they were ready. My cat was seen and we were told to have an aspiration done on her to find out what the findings of her condition were. We paid an additional 50 dollars for that service. The doctors and staff were nice and I looked forward to finding the results of her procedure to plan her future health plan. UPDATE: 4 MONTHS LATER (JULY 2021) We continued to call the office to get the results of our cat's test and were unable to talk to the doctor or any staff with those findings! We call every week since the March 2021 appointment to no avail. We were told the doctor would give us a call back and never did. This was frustrating for us and it was at this point we decided to take our cat to another vet. In the past, we had decent care for our furry family members here at Erdman, but this past encounter was unacceptable and given the maturity of our cat and the possibility of an issue that vastly would affect their health, we choose to no longer patronize Erdman. read more

We brought our dog there for a check of several lumps that I noticed on our routine grooming. It turned out to be an aggressive form of cancer. Dr Keil was very honest with our options and expectations whereas I'm sure other vets would have pushed for a more expensive route. We miss our beloved pet dearly. Thank you for taking care of her. *** I see reviews here complaining about the physical condition of the clinic. Let me just say, this is low cost clinic, your money most likely goes to medical supplies, staff salary, and basic upkeep. We used to go to a posh vet ($1k just for annual vaccinations and general 30minute check-up) and the care my dog received at Erdman far exceeded the quality of that other place. Yes, the wait time is long but that's because a lot of people bring their pets here so the animals have to be triaged. If you want a pet hotel service, then go to a pet hotel. We have taken our dogs here for the last ten years and absolutely love the vet, but sadly we will not be returning anymore. There are plenty of vets around us, but we drive 35 mins and on top of that we're never seen on time. We have never waited less than 2 hours to be seen and we didn't mind because the vet truly show our dogs so much love. We're extremely disappointed with how the front handles their paperwork and doesn't value peoples time. We took our new dog to Erdman recently for her first visit and we scheduled for a follow up visit. The office called to confirm her upcoming appointment and didn't realize that that it's a follow up appointment not a first appointment. Then ask us to come in at 6:15pm for an appointment but doesn't know if we can actually be seen that day. I could understand if we were ask to be squeezed in, but it was an appointment the office scheduled for her. Instead of understanding how inconsiderate it is to ask us to come out there and wait with the chance of not being seen, the lady at the front desk hangs up the phone when we were trying to explain that it doesn't make any sense to book an appointment like that. read more

Dr. Kiel has great bedside manner! Brought my dog in for vaccines and to take a look at a bump he had which Dr. Kiel advised was a hystocytoma. Yes, the office isn't in the best of conditions but Dr. Kiel gets the job done and gets it done for a price your not going to find anywhere else. While they open at 8am you'll want to arrive earlier than that to be at least the first or second on the list to be seen at 9:30 am which is when they start taking patients back. I arrived at 7:15 am and one person was already waiting putting me second on the sign in list. By 9:00 am the sign in list was almost full. I got out at about 10:20 am. There is paid street parking which is $0.50 an hour but doesn't start accepting payment until 9:00 a.m. and technically your not supposed to park on the street until 9:00 a.m. so keep that in mind. There is a restroom to use. You have to go behind the receptionist desk to use it. They also do boarding for pets and have very reasonable prices for that. read more

My main man Ollie had his annual appointment yesterday at Eardmans Animal Hospital. Let's just say that I was not happy with the service I received. Every other appointment I've had for Ollie went extremely well. Don't get me wrong, the staff was great. Especially the Vet Tech I had! Specifically, Dr. Wu and his bedside manners left a lot to be desired. My Ollie has severe Anxiety. Every time I have to get his nails trimmed he has to be sedated. This was done at Erdmans multiple times in the past. After being a bit aggressive with his vaccines, and the rectal thermometer he insists on trying to trim his nails without sedation. So the Vet Tech and I try to hold him which is only escalating Ollie's Anxiety even more. I plead with him to sedate, and he says I have to come back at another time because he has other patients to see. At this point I was insulted and pissed off because he was extremely dismissive of the situation. I said I scheduled this appointment 3 weeks earlier and had the first 9am appointment. Dr Wu didn't even see Ollie until 9:30. So it was not my fault he had patients backing up. I pleaded with Dr Wu to sedate, and he finally agreed. Meanwhile see the pics of all the scratches I received from Ollie trying to get away from this doctor. These scratches were bleeding for several hours afterwards. I contemplated going to the Dr myself if it didn't stop soon. My advice if you go here, please avoid Dr Wu at all costs. I am taking my dog to Erdman Animal Hospital ever since I moved to Baltimore. He has always gotten a thorough treatment. Why is he had problems with his leg and they prescribe something that fixed it and I was able to use it later when he has the same issue. He gets his shots there for a very reasonable cost. He recently had an issue with his eyes, and the vet raised concerns his weight loss and suggested blood work. They are looking for ways to diagnose and prevent which is good. The only issue I've had is sometimes it's hard to get through on the phone to make an appointment initially, but keep trying it's definitely worth it over paying out the nose with other hospitals read more

I would have given this place a 4 star rating except for the day I really needed them and they were'nt available. My dog Abasi ( Pressa 14 yrs old) , a patient of Erdman for over 12 years. I knew the day would come when he would need to be put to sleep. September ( between the 20th and 24th) my sweet Abasi had walked his last walk , it was a beautiful sunny day , he look around as if he knew this would be his las walk, and it was. We went home and I comforted him as best I could. This message is directed towards Dr Greenfield. I visited the clinic on Friday 11/13/20 because my 16 year Cockapoo has an exposed tumor on his belly. Labs were drawn to figure out the extent of his condition, and to see when surgery can be scheduled. I was told to call back on Monday for his results. I left messages for Dr Greenfield for 5days, and she never returned any of my calls. On 11/20/20 I came to the clinic and obtained his medical records so he can be seen by another veterinarian at another clinic. His tumor has worsened, and his labs came back extremely elevated. Pathetic excuse for an animal hospital. No one is in the same page providing the same information when you call. I called to schedule an appointment for dental surgery for my dog on 7/18/22 for August and was told by a male receptionist that he put us in the waitlist and that someone would only call us next month to schedule. I said okay. Just wanting to be proactive, I called today 7/27/22 to follow up and see how far along in the waitlist he is and if the status has changed. Some woman, who sounded like she barely wanted to help me anyways, tells me from the "notes" she sees that someone called and spoke to someone who declined his bloodwork, and now they've moved on to the next person on the waitlist. I said that's not possible. Once she confirmed the number they had (which was mine) I told her I have their number saved in my phone in case anyone calls me, and no one did, nor leave a voicemail. She continues to put me on hold and comes back to the phone to say she spoke with the schedule and even once his bloodwork is done, their only making appointment for two months out. I had been calling all of June but no one ever picked up the phone, then I'm July I was finally able to speak to someone and this bullshit happens. Insurance is becoming the norm and the cost to own a pet has skyrocketed. To lance a benign tumor in our area is $700 if you can get an appointment. A vet visit is $150 minimum. Services like this will be extinct in the near future value it while you can. Dr. Lance is an old school veterinarian who is an empathetic, pragmatic, and compassionate doctor. Wow....just wow. This is the worst hospital I've ever been to. The place is grimy and just worn down looking. Chipping pain, built up dirt and grime on walls, cold and furniture with holes. The front desk girls were not friendly, not wanting to listen or able to respond professionally. They were all sharing a jar of Vaseline applying it to their lips with fingers with a packed waiting room full of people and pets. I was there after speaking to someone on the phone that was very nice yet when I arrived I discovered that everything she told me was false. Super inconvenient and waste of money today. This a clinic for the people. I just wish the vets were really good and consistent. But with no appointments and people streaming all morning msg and afternoon I can understand some deficiency especially since many customers don't have much money. My last cat who died, Felice, presented with lethargy and seeming pain at 16. I was told by Erdman that she might have a growth and there wasn't much I could do. So I took her to a dedicated cat vet in Belair where she had an ultrasound that diagnosed a cancerous tumor on her stomach. I cuddled her for two weeks until it was time to put her down. Erdman wrapped her in a sheet and I took her home for burial. I'm saying that the cat vet was more precise and more expensive. Erdman is falling apart and needs facilities updates. First come first served keeps things cheaper but is grueling and freakish for my cats with pit bulls snuffing their carriers. read more

I like this place. It's really different, but I like it. We have two cats and a dog and they all go to Erdman. Dr. Zimmerman is, by far, my favorite of all of the doctors, but I like the rest of them, too. They have never wanted to perform unnecessary tests, and do their best to keep the visit low stress for the pet. (Except that the long wait can be stressful). The techs are sometimes a little timid, but they are very sweet and clearly care about the patients. I like that they don't take appointments, but I hate that sometimes I have to wait, sometimes for a couple hours. In my experience, the earlier in the day you go, the shorter the wait. The reason I took off one star is because of the staff at the desk. They are usually friendly, but I feel like they could be trained a little better. I also wish they had a system for doing things a little faster. It sometimes takes another 10 or 15 minutes to leave because they're doing other things instead of processing payments. I would probably give them 3 stars because of this, but I feel like the lower prices compensate for the inconvenience of waiting. Probably the best around town. - They are very transparent/up-front about costs and discuss all the options with you. - No appointment needed Cons: - No appointments allowed. First come first serve only means that you WILL wait forever. I have been four times, and never waited less than an hour, even when I had an appointment to pick up my pet. Even when I showed up before they opened. - A bit dirty and smelly. Needs to be scrubbed. Twice. - You will get a different doctor every time (Dr. Zimmerman if you are lucky) - The front desk staff is not very friendly. - The waiting room is ALWAYS packed, sometimes you won't get a seat. - The waiting room is very small, so that you are crammed next to people (and their misbehaving/sick pets....) I always feel like it's stressful for my cats when there are huge dogs barking and fighting with each other, or sticking their noses into my cat carrier. I love this place BECAUSE of the people that work there - Vets and support staff. Everyone I have dealt with there has been genuinely compassionate and caring. I care for quite a few feral cats, but live on a shoestring budget. Well, these guys help make that scenario work. The prices they charge are very affordable because they don't take appointments. It can seem a little chaotic at times and I remember thinking several times that I cannot imagine how the staff keep their cool and compassion in the midst of barking dogs, sometimes loud and pushy pet owners and several people vying for their attention at any one time. They are truly marvel. If you're looking for beautiful decor, look elsewhere. This place is very basic and easy to clean (and therefore a bit echo-y). Not looking to win any design awards, but to care for animals of people who can barely afford to pay them. I still gave five stars because I love them for all they do! read more

Not a good experience at all. We waited an hour for our 15 minute appointment, and then waited 20 minutes more to pay. We took our cat here because we were worried about her litter box habits, thinking she could have a UTI, and said when making our appointment that we wanted her checked for a UTI. I wrote down her Rabies tag no and expiration date on the new client form, told the vet to his face that she had her rabies vaccine in May of this year, and they gave her another rabies vaccine WITHOUT TELLING ME OR ASKING. They did not do any tests for the UTI like I asked. And they brushed off my concerns when I expressed how worried I was for her getting 2 rabies shots in 1 year. read more

I want to first start off by saying that if I've ever done a "real detailed" review it's because my experience was either bad or good. I want to say thank you to Dr. Keil and his staff for their compassion during a very difficult time. I recently had to say goodbye to my cat of 18 years, Pebbles. I made the difficult decision to euthanize her. I choose to have her cremated and wanted to keep her remains. I was pleased with how I received her ashes. I had picked out an urn and decided to have an impression of her paw. They also gave me a certificate of her cremation. Then I received another card from them in the mail. Im sure this is routine procedures for them, but the fact that they do made my experience that much better. It meant a lot to me! read more

My cat had surgery hematoma so when it was time to bring him home he was scared so instead of VET figuring out another way he used the pole that even animal control try not to use so he used the pole on a house cat and ripped him out the shuttle so he didn't have to worry about a workers comp claim and ripped my cat back claw clean out the rest of claws and sore he had an accident from trauma pee and poop and they didn't even clean him off or treat back claw they destroyed his carrier smh don't do it please and it stinks really bad like no one cleans the office smh very upset felt like people should know the care they provide read more

My dog was sick with parvo and he was going to die if we didn't rush him to a hospital and they treated him and he was better. My other dog years later had cut her toe while on a walk and they gave her medications and she was healed within 2 weeks. Its in a area with restaurants and stores so its in a good location. They get a lot of people so it can get busy and its small but that's what's expected of some animal hospitals. I haven't had any problems with this place and continue to visit. They have nice veterinarians. No appointments needed, just walk right in. It can be affordable. read more

Unbelievable. My cat was lethargic on Monday, not eating not defecating. I took him to eastern Animal hospital and spent 4 hours and $600 for them to tell me they didn't know what was wrong or what the possibilities were. They wanted another $1000 to keep him over night. A friend suggested I bring him to Erdman. Within 30 minutes and only $130, I was given all the answers and possibilities. To top it off, a day later and he was completely better. I took my 7 month old kitten to Erdman Animal Hospital because she was not eating. The vet told me that she had a fever and a virus, gave me antibiotics and sent me home with her after waiting for almost 2 hours and a 5 minute exam. My cat still was not eating and I brought her back in for a follow up exam. She still had a fever and they gave her a shot to break up the fever. The following week I took her to Belvedere Animal Hospital and they informed me that she had a disease that had a very low percentage of survival and I was faced with a heart wrenching decision to have her put to sleep. If Erdman had done blood tests like Belvedere had, then maybe she might still be alive today. read more

Dr.Greenfeld was patient with my dog and listened to my concerns. However, they don't use an appointment system, which means you usually have to wait at least 2-3 hours before being seen. The waiting room is dirty and overcrowded and the reception staff always seems overwhelmed. For example, they couldn't forward my dog's medical records in time to a specialist she had to see. It's a terrible place to go as a consumer and I would not recommend it. read more

My experience here over the last year has been lackluster. The only pros I have would be cost and walk in availability, though that would be countered by extremely long wait times. My experiences have been with Dr Keil, I personally feel that he has performed several procedures for the monetary benefit over the wellbeing of my pet. Once, my puppy was given double rabies vaccines by them even though we provided vaccine paperwork, she had her rabies tags, and also had her pet licence, which requires an up to date rabies vaccine. Their reasoning was that it wasn't in their system, so they went ahead despite the evidence and of course we were charged for the shots. We had gone in originally for a separate issue that did not get addressed. The most recent issue was over the past weekend, where my pup went in for a broken dew claw, no other health issues. Dr. Keil begins cutting her black nails on the foot that doesn't have the issue, cutting them basically in half and unsurprisingly, he hits 3 quicks on that paw. She starts bleeding and crying in pain and his response was to muzzle her. He quickly snips the one broken nail and comments how the rest don't need to be clipped, then leaves to let the vet tech clean up the blood. I was not there to have a nail trim, I was just there for the one broken dew claw which was barely addressed during the exam. He caused my pup a lot of unnecessary trauma, bleeding, and pain and she came out of the office with more injuries than when she came in. When I get my bill, they had charged me the standard $10 for a nail trim. I dispute that charge as I did not ask for a nail trim, he did a poor job of said nail trim, and he only did one paw poorly.
