From scheduling, to the front desk staff, to the ridiculous wait, to scheduling multiple doc appointments 2-4 weeks post procedure to review results, this place is a nightmare. When I first came in, the staff thought I was scheduled for a colonoscopy, but it was an endoscopy. I waited over an hour and thirty minutes to be seen. I scheduled an appointment with my doc weeks later and they did not send my results, so I called them, filled out a consent form and made another appointment 2 weeks after the first. My doctor then told me they still had not received the results, so they called Dr. Alayo's office and we're told the fax was down and I'd have to go pick up my results in person. How has the office been functioning for 3 weeKs without a working fax?! STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! They lack any sort of professionalism and do not care about their patients whatsoever. read more

But I would like to say his staff members are very lazy and somehow disrespectful to my family when we were booking an appointment with Dr. Alayo Erick for my parents' colonoscopy. We called in to have our appointments booked, and the staff asked me to send the pictures of insurance cards to them. They waited until the last minute to call AGAIN in order to ask for my parents' proof of insurance. The conservation was going fine, and I assumed that they could listen to my English with no problem. I think they pretend not to hear my pronunciation clearly and hung up on me! I called in again THREE times and even left a voice message. They NEVER called me back. The moment they could talk to me on the phone for the fourth time, they HUNG UP again on me. Wayyy too disrespectful. Not even an apology from them. Isn't the word Health Net sounding so difficult for you to understand? Or just you refused to help other elderly patients who want to have their first colonoscopy? I work in healthcare too, and these staff members should not be hired for their attitude and laziness. This office is not just incompetent but also engages in insurance fraud. Earlier this year I scheduled a phone appointment with who I was told would be Dr. Alayo but instead spoke with a "staff member" who didn't try to hide the fact that she was trying to get me off the phone not even 10 minutes into the call because she had "other patients to get to". Did not provide any medical advice or tell me anything I didn't already know - I scheduled the phone appointment with a doctor because I needed to speak with a doctor. Despite this, in an attempt to spare myself from the hassle of having to change doctors I tried making another appointment. Over the course of a month I tried calling their office close to 10 times before giving up, no one ever answered or returned voicemails. Needless to say, after that I had no choice but to change doctors. To add insult to injury, months later I received an invoice from insurance notifying me that the office billed them $230 for a 30-45 minute in person visit that never happened (not even scheduled, they completely made it up) in addition $27 for the 10 minute phone call which wasn't billable since I didn't speak with anyone qualified to provide medical advice. DO NOT GO HERE. It makes sense why they have 1 star on here. Two days before my colonoscopy the hospital called saying that the insurance wasn't authorized... who's job is that to check?? Oh yeah the doctors fault. I guess the insurance had been approved but had expired and the doctor forgot or didn't check to see if it was still valid before my procedure. On top of that my insurance didn't even cover the hospital that he scheduled me to go too. So I lost the procedure appointment which took months to get. Doctor Alayo does not provide good service to his patients. I was having major stomach issues and he had me go through a stomach emptying procedure to identify the problem. I went through it and the results indicated I had gastroparesis. I made a follow up appointment at his office thinking I would see the doctor and when I arrived they told me he does not see patients anymore. Instead I was directed to a nurse practioneer who had no clue as to what was wrong with me. A total waste of my time and now I am searching for a doctor who is willing to help me. read more

First of all I wasn't even a patient here but I would not recommend this place to anyone. My mom had an appointment here and I decided to come with her. She made a comment to me before we got here and she said, "We're just going to go and waste our time. They take forever to see me. I wait a long time all the time." Sure enough. Her appointment was at 1:45pm . At 2: 18 pm I had her ask the front desk about what time she was going to be seen since so much time had passed without an ETA. The clerk replied "oh it's like that in this office. When the other patient is done we will have you go in. Some patient's have complex issues so it takes time". To this my mom replied, I understand but my appointment was at 1:45. The clerk said we can reschedule if you would like. That was absolutely unacceptable. That was not the first time it happened to my mom and I am sure she is not the the only one who experiences that. The answer she got from the front desk clerk is not an answer. We went into an actual room until 2:22pm and waited again for another 7 min. The Dr. Who saw her was very unprofessional, she was bothered when I asked her questions about my mom's health and the plan of care. By no means was I questioning her recommendations, I simply wanted to understand what the short term and long term interventions were. With an annoyed look on her face and with feistyness she replied to my questions. There was a lot of tension in the room. A patient nor family member should ever have to be treated that way. My mom is not in health care so she does need to hear rationales more than once. That is what providers are for, to offer effective, compassionate Care. In this case, that was not what my mother received. The only good thing about this visit was that my mom was given samples of a medication that really helps her feel better for a second time because her insurance has not approved it yet. I have had the best experience with Dr Alayo & his staff. He has done a colonoscopy & Endoscopy. Followed up with more test to get to the root of my herd problems. His staff we so professional, great follow up and reminders with appointments. They even called a few different Pharmacies to track down a medication that was low on inventory at most pharmacies. The staff is capable and helpful. I would highly recommend him for any G.I. issues you might have and I noticed they're also doing-weight loss at the Chula Vista location. read more

I have been having nothing but problems with Dr. Erick Alayo's office. It's not the doctor himself it is his staff. The supervisor Elizabeth allows rudeness from her staff towards patients and does nothing about it but she will gladly blame the patient for it. I was told by another staff member that I need to get names of employees when I speak to them so when something is done like put in to insurance for a colonoscopy because the workers apparently don't do their jobs they complain and don't like it. I've had an endoscopy done by the doctor and it was all good but I do not trust his staff and will never go back. I know some people there like Silvia are very polite and are willing to help but I still feel like maybe they are being racist whether it is because of my nationality or because military or I could be totally wrong again it's just my feeling. I was also told unless I have an appt I could not get a chance to talk to Dr. Alayo so unfortunately I couldn't bring up my concerns to him. My grandmother was referred to you by her PCP, she's only been followed by a NP -if that. It's been close to a year and she hasn't received the treatment she needs. The level of unprofessionalism is something I've never experienced before. From last minute cancellations to unreturned calls. Everytime I call; your staff treats it like it's no big deal. My grandmother's treatment may not be a big deal for them but it's certainly a big deal for me. Worst experience ever and I didn't even see the doctor. The front office is unfriendly. My appointment was for 4pm. I went to the wrong building first then quickly go to the right location and signed in at 4:05. The lady at the front desk did not say hi and asked if I had an appointment and I said yes and she said are you 4 o'clock and I said yes. She said we can't see you, you need to be here at 4 and it's 4:06 did I want to reschedule and I said no. I explained that I went to the wrong building. She said she could schedule me for tomorrow at 3 and I said I work far and need to have a 4pm appointment. She asked another lady about 4 o'clock appointments and the lady said there aren't anymore. The lady said she would be back in a moment. She came back and said they can't see me anyway because my Dr. did not send any information to them, only a referral and demographics. She said there were no x-rays, tests, lab results and I told her that only labs were done. She said, well we don't have them so we can't see you. I asked her why they didn't ask me for anything when they called to get insurance information and she said "I don't know, I wasn't the one who called you." She asked to reschedule me and I said no thanks, I'll find a different doctor. Pretty unorganized way to run a business and such a waste of time. I would think that the Dr. would order specific tests based on symptoms. Isn't that why you go to a Specialist? My general practitioner isn't a specialist in GI issues. read more

This doctor does not communicate & there is a two month wait from the time of a procedure until a consultation regarding the results. It is very difficult to get past the automated answering machine.
