    Wonderful campsite and great mining!
    Sutton C.

Wow. I can't say enough about this campsite! The owners are wonderful, helpful and nice. The campsite is clean and adorable, no critter problems and a beautiful creek runs through the back. But the best part? This is a GREAT place to mine Herkimer Diamonds! Wow! Just visited for a three night camping trip on the grounds. We initially thought we would only mine one day but we got totally hooked! YES you find Herkimer Diamonds, and beautiful ones at that. Within the campsite there are spaces for, tents, RV's AND they have cabins. There are two mines onsite and my husband and I found quartz in both. My husband lucked out and found one that's about an inch and half. Which made us just want to keep looking! YES- you can rent tools here, but make sure you are dressed properly! Closed toed shoes are best! Overall an incredible experience, can't wait to go back!

BEWARE! Terrible, Terrible, Terrible! I'm coming from the Mid West. I booked 4 sites in February for the end of June, for our friends and I to get together. I Paid the deposit, and was sent a confirmation for the sites. We called yesterday about adding an additional site, and found out that they double booked our sites and the reservation we had did not exist. (Proof Below of our confirmation). Thank god we all didn't show up for our reservation. They basically told me to piss off, returned my deposit, and now will not return emails, or phone calls. I travel all year, coast to coast and have been to dozens of RV parks/campgrounds, this is the worst experience I've ever had! Not 1 I'm sorry, we messed up, nothing! As you all know... Trying to get in somewhere last minute is near impossible! Crystal Grove... you have cost us dearly.

    Campsite #12 along the creek

Great campsite! We stayed at #12. I'd recommend this one. There's a good amount of space for a tent and canopy along with nice real estate along the creek. During the day, the sun was shining and we were able to take a little dip in the creek behind our site. The current is a little strong so make sure you have good footwear... RIP my flip flops. There's also a diamond/crystal mining area. You can rent gear from the office and be an archeologist for the day. We didn't go that route, but we found a couple little crystals in the ground walking around. You can score some cool gemstones if you spend some quality time in the mines. Our neighbors spent the afternoon mining and came back to the site with huge crystals the size of baseballs. We also went on a little hike along a trail by the playground. It's about 3/4 a mile, maybe? It was nice trek through the woods. It was so quiet and peaceful, but the trail was a bit muddy from the recent rain storms. Speaking of rain... It rained both nights of our trip. Boy, was I glad our tent was new and waterproof. It was a damper on the fun because we couldn't hang by the fire like we normally do. Luckily, the site is surrounded by trees so it blocked the downpour. On the second night, the rain came a little earlier so we drove up to Beardslee Castle for a beer (worth it if you're in the area!). Later after we got back to the site, we went to hang out in the pavilion to stay dry. There's fooseball (takes quarters) and ping pong (you might have to get paddles & balls from the office) so we stuck with playing our game of Would You Rather?, sipping PBRs. All in all, it was a great trip (minus the rain) and the grounds are quiet with a handful of tent sites, cabins, and RV spots. Tips: - Bring lighter fluid. Since it rained all the kindling from the forest was wet and we needed it to get the fire started. - If you plan to cook over the fire, bring a grill grate if you can because the fire pit doesn't have one already attached. - Don't leave things along the creek. If it does happen to rain the water pools in that area and will whisk away your belongings. - Bug spray is a must since you're in the woods. - Bring a volleyball - there's a net!

My boyfriend and I had only a few hours to dig / bust rock .We loved it and can't wait to go back . This was our first time searching for Herkimer diamonds. It took us the first couple of hours to to get into the grove of things . We did come away with some nice pieces .

A small lake, no large motorized boats are allowed, so it is quiet and peaceful. In fact, the greatest disturbances tend to be other campers who insist on playing their music loudly. Thankfully, there is usually a good amount of space between sites, and most people respect the quiet hours. While this campground is a long way away from where I live, it is definitely worth the drive. If you are interested in fall camping, I can't even being to describe how beautiful it is to wake up in the morning to see the lake surrounded by a riot of colors.

Located close to Indian Lake, the Lewey Lake Campground has multiple entrances off of Route 30N with the main campground the furthest south and what I have labeled on the Yelp map. Keep in mind that the address does not come up properly on Google Maps or Bing maps so look at the Yelp placement for more accuracy. We were at the furthest north campsites which are pretty isolated from everyone else. The sites our group stayed at were situated right next to a stream which was great for sleeping. You couldn't hear anyone around you and even with the goings on at our lower campsite we couldn't hear them at all. There only outhouses at this location of the campground but it is a short drive to the main sites that have real bathrooms and showers along with a nice, simple beach. Despite how close it is to Route 30N, I definitely felt isolated in a good way and would highly recommend staying there for people looking for some interesting camping with reasonably convenient location.

This wasn't my first stay in a tipi, teepee, tepee, however you want to spell it, all are correct…read more It wasn't even my second time. It was my third magical stay in one of these cone shaped wonders which bring me so, so much peace. So, I guess you can say I'm a "tipi expert", comparatively speaking. A night's sleep in a tipi is certainly a very spiritual experience, one I believe everyone who is even the slightest bit a nature lover or even just a tad boho should definitely try! I completely understand they aren't for everyone, but if you're somewhat adventurous, I say it's an absolute must!! This tipi was made very well. The flooring was made of stone and pieced together perfectly as if it were grouted which was new to me. There were scattered pallets around the fire for relaxing, covered in faux fur throws as well as tree stump end tables, some with candles and naturally shed antlers. It was like my own home right here in the middle of NY state. Fresh towels were waiting, neatly folded on our cozy, comfy bed. The fire pit which is traditionally placed inside the tipi, in the middle, was very well constructed and safe. It was deeper than most I've seen, surrounded by larger stones around the perimeter. Small kindling wood peices were ready and waiting for us as were candles, matches and directions on how to care for the structure. The top of the tipi remained opened all night which I personally prefer for star-gazing and waking up naturally by the daylight. The flaps can normally be closed during rain or colder weather. There was a hammock located just feet away from the tipi. We spent the morning rocking along in nature, listening to the birds fly above and just staring at the tipi which has just given us an amazing nights sleep. The outhouse was a little ways down the trail and was the cleanest I've ever seen! Even the tp was folded into a tip! There's pump water for washing, even a mirror. No shower. Please consider that when booking. And if you're too chic for a little saw dust sprinkle after you do your business, stay elsewhere. On the way out we fed two beautiful horses and a couple chickens which for me just added to the experience. Have no fear, they're far enough away from camp base you won't smell them. They were extremely friendly and hay bails were there waiting. Please no people food! We took a drive around the massive property, 225 acres to be exact!! There were many secluded sites besides the tipi! I definitely see us coming back here, with the kiddos too! It was about 3 hours or so from Philly and was literally on our way to Canada. It's about 20 minutes from my favorite grocery store in Albany, Honest Weight which will have anything you may need. Note, there's not much directly around so come prepared. The closest coffee shop was about 15 minutes away. The land was very rural, but it's about 10 minutes down the hill to the highway, which you could not hear from the site. We had no interaction with anyone here as we arrived after dark, so if you're used to concierge and camp hosts, this isn't the place for you. You can leave your car lights on to set up or if you're like me and have lanterns in your car, one would come in handy at night as it's pitch black. Aka perfect. Jason was readily available for directions and any communication leading up to our stay which we booked through Airbnb. I have a coupon code for $35 off if you're interested, just inbox me. Even in the dark we really didn't have an issue finding our site, but it may be tricky for some. Stay patient and follow the signs. Siri doesn't know her way around the grounds. The Magic Forest also hosts trips and does composting, farming and other environmental projects daily. Check their site for more info! It's a very special space. I highly recommend this experience. Just for a night!
