I stayed at the Grand Colonial the night before the Boilermaker 15K, and I can honestly say it was one of the best B&B experiences I've ever had in terms of service and attention to detail, as well as value. First the proprietor helped me park. Next he explained how everything worked in the room, from the air conditioner to the cable to the free WiFi. Then he showed me the dinner options, which restaurants had delivery, and their approximate wait times. The morning of the race, at 5:30 am, he greeted me with a to-go insulated bag (mine to keep) with water, a banana, an apple, and homemade granola. I didn't even have to ask for late checkout. He allowed all the runners to come back after the race and shower as needed. I think I was there till about 1:30 pm. And we were given more food--strawberry scones. In addition to the impeccable service, the room was very well appointed. It was dark and quiet. I did not hear any other guests. And there were high-end Beekman bath products. A week after my stay I received a thank you card with a discount for a future stay. I highly recommend Grand Colonial Bed and Breakfast to anyone traveling to central New York. Going to do anything in Cooperstown? Stay here. It is a pleasant 25 mile drive from here to Cooperstown and I a positive you will not find a better bargain for such high quality accommodations. We have a lot of B&B experience and can say it won't be any better than this. Quality accommodations at reasonable prices with a fantastic set of amenities. Free WiFi, parking, and all the channels anyone could want, whether watching in your room or on the downstairs public room big screen. Hot beverages and cold water and ice are available all day, and when they say breakfast, they really mean feast. Many choices without limit in every breakfast food category. The frosting on our stay was all the kisses and entertainment that Brick, the canine mascot provided. We are already thinking of reasons to need to stay in Herkimer again. We Stayed in the King-size bedroom. Room was very well decorated, with large bathroom. Our stay was very comfortable. Home is truly in colonial style and very beautiful decorated as well as comfortable. Home is Very clean. Breakfast was fantastic!!! Breakfast is ordered the night before. Be sure to order either eggs/bacon/sausage or waffle/pancake/French toast option as portion size is HUGE and you will not eat it all, so save the trouble, minimize waste, and order one or the other. Don't order everything on the menu as you won't eat half of it. The host, Mike, is very welcoming, friendly, and a fantastic cook. House Dog Brick is a wonderful companion. We stayed here as an alternative to the high priced hotels in Cooperstown which is an easy and beautiful 40 minute drive away. The property is newly renovated and clean. The owner, Mike, is friendly and cooks up the best breakfast! On the ground floor there is a spacious living room where my dad and I watched the Yankee game. It's nice to have this option even though there are tv's in the rooms. There is also a spacious dining area that seats eight. The rooms are upstairs and are exactly as pictured on the website. They are well appointed and each has an en-suite bath. This is a good option when visiting The Baseball Hall of Fame or Glimmerglass. We also loved Bric, Mike's friendly dog who visited us for a short time. read more

What a wonderful experience we had visiting our son this past weekend while he is finishing clinical requirements for school in Herkimer, NY. We stayed at an excellent, well known and totally pristine B&B named the Grand Colonial Bed & Breakfast that I would highly recommend to anyone looking to get away for a day or stay the weekend. We stayed at the Grand Colonial because our son plays hockey in Uticia and we've never stayed at a B&B before. This was a wonderful experience and we will defiantly return. We were met by the owner Mike and his sweet dog Brick. Mike spent time showing us the room and explaining how everything works. The room was beautiful and I love that all the rooms have private bathrooms. Breakfast was wonderful and very fresh made to order not set out on a buffet table. Michael the owner was very friendly and accommodating. We happened to stay at the Inn because I was running in the Boilermaker. He provided us both with insulated lunch bags (to keep), fresh granola, fruit and water to have on the way to the race. When we got back he had homemade scones, fruit, and a delicious blueberry cake to snack on. The room was extremely clean. This was first time booking a Bed and Breakfast and the experience was wonderful. The owner, Mike, has set up this 1800's Colonial with all the comforts of a hotel and the ambiance of a long ago. Bed was very comfortable, there was smart TV, free bottled water and coffee, tea, hot chocolate. Mike prepared an amazing breakfast the next morning. His dog, Brick, was eager to help, cute and totally trained. I highly recommend the Grand Colonial Bed and Breakfast. Mike is a spectacular and welcoming host and his dog, Brick, is adorable. Everything was super clean and extremely comfortable. Warm and welcoming. Beautifully appointed rooms with an interesting history. The most comfy bed I've ever slept in and a coffee cart right outside our door for coffee in bed, surrounded by plush pillows. Outstanding breakfast, made to order. Exquisite furnishings. A gift shop that will surprise you with its variety of mementos. Our host was knowledgeable, warm and very accommodating. The Grand Colonial is a hidden gem! The Grand Colonial B & B is a very clean, cozy, lovely place to stay with the added advantage of being pet friendly. The yard and off-street parking area were well lighted & felt secure. We stayed for two nights and the host was welcoming and very, very accommodating. When I had a very early morning appointment, the day after we arrived, he was kind enough to whip up a quick, delicious breakfast even though I came back to the B & B after the official meal hour was over. I was born and raised in Herkimer, NY and remember this house from an early childhood. It was grand then and is grand now, having stayed for 2 nights with my husband. It is a warm and welcoming place, due to the host, who gives it his all. Rooms are very comfortable, clean and warmly decorated. Excellent property in the village where I grew up. Beautiful neighborhood of Victorian to pre-war homes, very well maintained and spacious house, large and comfortable rooms, very acommodating host, lots of parking. Dietary restrictions kept me away from their breakfast goodies, but the menu looked outstanding. Very good restaurants nearby, plus Erie canal trips, Adirondacks and Cooperstown easy drives through beautiful countryside, great village to just walk or bike and enjoy. read more

This was my first time at a bed and breakfast and it blew my mind. Mike and Brick were excellent host from start to finish. They were very accommodating when we arrived slightly behind schedule and gave us a very thorough tour. The rooms were awesome with temperature and humidity control settings.
