I appreciate all the natural light that came in over something more harsh like overhead lights. I tried out their restorative yoga class and had a great time. Stephen's voice and personality is so calming and genuine! He also helped adjust me during an exercise which I appreciated, as it was my first ever restorative yoga session. During the class, he also shared some interesting facts about yoga as a practice and the cultures from which it originated. Unfortunately, I bruised my forehead a bit because the blanket didn't quite cushion my forehead properly against the block unless I moved my head up and squashed my nose, and we remained in that pose for 10+ mins, but that was my only qualm while in the class. After the class, all mats and blocks were wiped down prior to being returned to their place :). One thing I wish I would have known is that there's a mat rental fee ($4 I believe), which I didn't previously know about and felt a bit out of the ordinary in my experience? However, because it was my first time, they offered one to me for free without me having to ask. Very kind customer service! While the yoga room itself is very spacious, the check-in area is itty bitty and I could see it getting cramped during peak hours, but I kinda wanted to get in and out haha! I'd recommend not hanging around too long before or after class to avoid cramping. I recommended a friend try out Ishta Yoga for herself to see how she liked it too. She informed me she tried out an "All Levels" class with Douglas. She mentioned him being supportive, calm, and patient, though she didn't quite know what was going on regarding the terminology. Overall, I'd love to do more restorative yoga here when I can find the time! Note to self: bring your own blanket and mat!

Although the program was virtual in its entirety, it still managed to have the perfect level of feeling intimate and immersive - as there were enough of us to be able to work with a "buddy system" when preparing for practice teaching and other reviews. Just about our entire cohort still keeps in touch with one another. We're a supportive bunch, and I'm happy to have met some new friends :) The team's teachings are very inclusive; reiterating that teaching yoga is beyond what we might see in the media (fit women that are extremely flexible and can do complicated postures). The yogic practice is about feeling good, so as teachers, we learn to let anyone feel good in their bodies - *ahem* modifications and props are key and great to have in practice! FlorYoga's manual is thorough and is definitely something that I'll keep referring back to for years. Some bonuses: for someone like me that isn't all into science, Melanie did such an awesome job at teaching the anatomy portion of training (I genuinely enjoyed it). There are additional workshops throughout the training for TTs (ex. Autumn's Chakra Workshop / Janine's Meditation Workshop) which was yet another added component to be excited about. Though the exams are lengthy, they're nothing to be scared about and are actually an amazing opportunity to get the creative juices flowing and find your voice as an instructor.

The other one was so light that I barely feel like I worked out at all. Phoenyx Fitness has been THE BEST one I have attended so far. For one, this truly is a "at your own pace" workout. My biggest grips with previous classes is that they either killed you and if you weren't prepared too damn bad, no pain no gain. The other was just you can work at your own pace but the instructor set such a low pace that it wasn't very challenging . You definitely get your money's worth with Malenna and the awesome instructors at Phoenyx (I've had most exposure with Kaelynn - sp?). I also started this in the summer so the classes are outdoors. The bad news is - it's rain or shine. the good news is, the classes keep you on your toes with differentiating workouts AND parks. I love when they are held on the UWS for selfish reasons (ha ha). The class runs by so quickly that before you know it, the hour is up. I especially love the 6 am classes - by 7 am you are completely done for the day. That is totally cool.

My words of gratitude for Elev8 are truly endless…read more As an active person, I've tried every workout in NYC (from Barry's bootcamp, SOUL Cycle, CrossFit, FlyWheel and expensive personal trainers). As an active person with scoliosis, which is almost always causing some sort of pain (neck, lower back, upper back, knees - you name it!), I've found that I must truly watch how I workout b/c overdoing it in the wrong ways has truly been counterproductive in the past. My sessions at Elev8 always leave me feeling stronger, longer, leaner and in less physical pain than when I arrived.
