Mang'Oh is the best! I was looking for a studio that's convenient to Grand Central, where I commute to/from the 'burbs. Fortunately I gave Mang'oh a shot about a year ago and have been coming regularly ever since. It's a small, intimate studio that rarely feels crowded. Most teachers are fantastic, each with a different style, so I'd recommend attending several classes until you discover those that mesh well with your yoga needs. I am a huge fan of Justin's class, which completely changed the way I practice yoga. Other outstanding teachers include Djuna, Josh, Marissa, Sarah G., Erica, etc. The monthly membership is well worth it if you're planning to practice at least 2x/week. I love that they provide jade mats free of charge for members - 1 less thing to carry on Metro-North! Thank you mang'oh!! read more

Once again, New York Yoga PassBook has allowed me to find another great studio! On a miserable, cold and wet day in New York and soaked to the bone, I found my oasis here at a 5:45pm Happy Hour Yoga class with Erica Whalen. The studio is pretty close to Grand Central terminal, so if you're in the area and in need of some stretching, relaxation and meditation, I highly recommend this studio. The practise room is beautiful and tranquil. I was checked in easily and rented a yoga mat ($2) and waited patiently for the class to get started. Erica is a great instructor. She guided the class with peacefulness and excellent instruction. I really appreciated the corrections and also I welcomed the modifications for my tight hamstrings. Equal amounts of hip openers were offered and also good stretches for tight shoulders and arms. I will be back to take another class and when I am in this area, I will definitely have this yoga studio on my radar. Thanks again for lifting my dreary mood from the weather and making me feel so good after class. Now I only wish Mother Nature was just this kind. Maybe She needs to take a class here too? I love that teachers here give very clear instructions along with the name of the poses so it's really easy to follow. If you can concentrate and follow the instructions, you barely have to rely on the persons in front of you or next to you. Because I attended all levels and sometimes I feel that the poses are the same either I'm doing level 1/2 or 2/3. It would be nice if the poses could reflex the difficulty. And I think more challenges need to be added to the higher levels. The people who come to a high level class should already expect and be prepared of what they're getting themselves into. Once in a while I get bored of the easy same movements in level 2 and up. There are a decent number of regulars here and I'm sure we need to be more challenged in order to grow. read more

I recently moved to the Murray Hill area and found Mang'Oh as it was so close to my new place. They have a great introductory special for first-time visitors - $45 for unlimited classes in your first month! I went to beginner classes (candlelight yoga) with two different teachers and enjoyed both! The teachers gave clear instructions and had calm, relaxing demeanors, making the classes feel very restorative. The one minus was that one of the classes was absolutely packed - there had to have been 30 people crammed into that little room. I feel like they should impose a limit on how many people can sign up for a class, because this really detracted from the experience for me. If you can avoid the crowds, it's a solid experience! read more

I'm pretty shy when it comes to joining any sort of gym or yoga studio. I find a place at the back of the room and commit to a program after I'm absolutely 120% positive I'll continue. mang'Oh is not only walking distance from my apartment, but it is a great place to get super yoga & pilates instructions. Don't be fooled by the sweet voices of the instructors - they give a tough work out. I love the way that the owners, sisters Erica & Cindy, have created a pleasant community with their yogis, but also with their members. I discovered Mang'Oh through my Yoga Passbook and took two classes here. My first class was sunrise core yoga on a Saturday morning with Andrea, which was surprisingly crowded (guess people are just better at getting out of bed on weekends than I am...) I have pretty much no core strength, so this class was a workout for me. We used props that I've never used before in yoga, like foam rollers and this ring-shaped thing for doing core exercises. We also spent a good portion of the class focusing on Chaturanga Dandasana, which was surprisingly challenging! I went back a few days later on a Tuesday night for candelight yoga with Djuna. It was one of the most relaxing yoga classes I've ever been to, helped by the fact that there were only eight people there, so there was lots of room to stretch out. We went through sun salutations and some basic poses like warrior and camel, and spent a while in supported pigeon pose. The use of bolsters and blankets made everything extra comfy. Djuna also has the most soothing voice ever; all throughout class I felt so worry-free and relaxed. Mang'Oh is small with only one studio room, but I really like the vibe here. I personally prefer studios that don't focus too heavily on spirituality and chanting and all that jazz, and Mang'Oh was just the right level for me. read more

I used a ClassPass to take the Candlelight Yoga on a Wednesday night. Super relaxing!!! You could have worked out earlier and then come here. They have hooks for your bags and jackets but no lockers. Bring your own mat or rent one for $2. Small studio- located on 2nd floor with just one room. The room has about 2-3 windows but I could barely hear noise from outside so that's a plus. I recommend laying your mat at the right or left corner because no one will be behind you and I just feel like you get a little more room. If you have to extend your arms it may be a little tight but that's prob any spot in the room. Lauren was our instructor- her voice was super relaxing- great choice of music. I'm not familiar with yoga but this class is pretty good for beginners. I'm not very coordinated so when she told us to do the warrior pose---thank goodness I was next to the wall or else I would have toppled over. Zero balance....I felt like I was invading the walls personal space cuz at some points I had to hold onto it from seriously falling and causing a domino effect on everyone. Besides this I had a great time- good class to do before bedtime. read more

This studio is exactly what I was hoping to find. I'm a beginner, but only the level 2/3 Vinyasa classes fit my schedule. At those times, the small studio always has enough room, and the instructors are very friendly and open to my questions. I feel really comfortable here, and have made progress already. Very chill, nice clean space, well worth the price! I have been to a couple beginners classes (8:30 PM) that are more crowded, but there was always room for everyone as far as I could tell. read more

I can't say enough about how special this place is. A very small (one room) and intimate studio, Mang'Oh feels very homey. It's a quiet and serene space and they offer a variety of classes at different times. I particularly like that they offer 6am classes - early enough to get home and get ready and be at work before 9! Most of the teachers here are fantastic - Sarah Girard, Josh M, Katherine W and Gloria Koo being the standouts. They offer classes ranging from restorative to vigorous Vinyasa flow classes. One of my favorites is the Happy Hour class at 5.45 if you can make it! The studio has small cubbies for your belongings and a restroom. Often you'll see candles flickering for mood. I love Mang'Oh and highly recommend it to anybody in the area. read more

mang'Oh is a nice enough studio, but it just didn't do it for me. The energy of a studio and its instructors its super important to me, and I didn't leave wanting to come back. Don't get me wrong - it's very clean, and the instructor was knowledgeable, but the studio itself felt lacking in warmth, community, and the kind of energetic feeling that I love about yoga. I don't love the layout of the classroom, but the many windows and cool blue colors are lovely and make up for it a bit. As a neighborhood studio, it's great. But I wouldn't go out of my way to practice here regularly. I guess my main complaint is that it felt lacking in character and was a little too generic. But for those who just want a solid class for physical benefits, this is probably a good choice for you; check it out. read more

If you are beginner yogi with a Classpass (#twinsies-- let's be friends?), I recommend this place! Mang'oh Yoga indicates which level of yogi (Level 1/2/3) each class is suitable for... which eliminates the "holy-shit-I-can't-hold-that-pose" panic moment some of us may or may not have when strolling into an "open level" session. Really love that they offer many different classes throughout the day, as it makes it easy to squeeze in a class even as my schedule changes. Think I'll use up my month-to-month Mang'oh Yoga limit (3 times/month through Classpass) doing Candlelight Vinyasa -- best way to prep for bedtime, in my opinion! The studio is small, but has everything you need. It's clean and bright, with friendly and approachable staff. I've only had two sessions so far, but both Lauren and Djuna provided plenty of individual attention, constantly checking alignment and demonstrating when a pose is unclear. Expect to see me so long as I still have my Classpass! read more

My sister and I came to check out this place since it was close to her office. The first class was good, so we decided to do their 2 week package for $38. Staff: Very friendly and actually remembered us when we returned for the second class Yoga instructors: Each instructor had their own style, where some where better than others. However, by better really just means that they fit my yoga style better. For instance, some instructors were moving quickly through the poses, whereas I like to take me time. Overall, each instructor challenged their students & incorporated the pose of the month Studio: clean, cool music, but can get a little tight. If you came just on time or late, we were near the where the door opened/closed. Overall I would recommend this studio, especially if you are new to yoga. read more

I found Mang'Oh during my commute home and I can't tell you how happy I am that I walked into this amazing environment. The staff and the members are super welcoming and supportive. Quickly, I found myself an extended family with many of the teachers and local members. When Erica (the owner) announced the teacher training program a few years ago, in my head, I quickly raised my hand and signed up on the spot! I was scared yet excited for the adventure. For those of you who are looking to learn more about yourself physically, emotionally and/ or spiritually I highly recommend this program. It truly was an immersion, which is what I intended it to be from the start. It's been a life changing experience to say the least. Although I don't teach yoga, today, I continue to build on my practice in my personal and professional lives. However, I do intend to teach some day as well. Mang'oh Yoga Studio is a class above the rest. It's a haven for me and many of my friends who go there. It's like a breath of fresh air- an oasis in the middle of crazy NYC. I fell in love with this place the moment I entered their doors 1.5 years ago. Everyone who works here, from the desk staff to the instructors, is very pleasant and helpful. Mang'Oh is a lot more than a yoga studio, it inspires you and awakens you. All yoga instructors here are very professional, highly knowledgable and excellent at what they do. They offer multiple class times and a variety of yoga styles. The studio and bathroom are not just pretty- they are squeaky clean and smell great! If you're looking to get a 200-hr yoga teacher training, look no where else. I would highly recommend getting your certification here. I was a part of it last year and the whole experience was just priceless! It enriched my life in a way that's beyond words. I am forever grateful and so happy I undertook this journey. I LOVE this studio! I tried the $45 first time monthly membership and quickly fell into the habit of going that I had to sign up for the second month at $130. Honestly, it is worth every dollar. The studio only has one room, but I never feel crowded. They also have classes available at all hours of the day, even as late as 830pm. The best part of the studio is the instructors. Each and every one of them has so much experience and make each class unique. They're extremely helpful, no matter what level you are, and never make you feel bad about not being able to do a pose, even if you accidentally kick them in the face like I did (Sorry, C!). I'm so pleased to have found a wonderful studio blocks from my sister's apartment while in town from California. Mang'Oh is a welcoming, calming space with lots of classes on the schedule each day. I'm a certified yoga teacher and can be a bit picky when I go to new studios, but I was impressed by the quality of the instruction I received in each class that I've taken, particularly Josh's! I'm glad that I'm in town a few more days to enjoy the new student special and will definitely return whenever I'm back in town/will be considering future retreats with Mang'Oh teachers. read more

I was looking for yoga near grand central station and this was the first place that came up on google. I purchased a yoga pass book a few months back and sure enough Mang'oh was one of the free passes (2 classes). So it was a no brainier with the pass and along with the good reviews on yelp I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did! I had a wonderful experience at Mang'oh Yoga. Didn't figure out why they named it that, but still loved it. I attended Tuesday night happy hour @5:45 pm. It was my first class of yoga in months. It was the best hour ever and next time someone mentions happy hour all I will think of is yoga! Instructor (Erica) was great, very attentive - she moved throughout the room to check alignment and made adjustments and helped with stretching. Class was small - only 9 people including myself. Plenty of room to practice. Small studio - nothing fancy but to me it had everything a yoga studio needs. Bathroom, changing areas, mat rentals, props, clean space to practice, hardwood floors, good music, and an ambiance that is relaxing. They even provide a space for you to store your own mat if you sign up for their unlimited monthly package. They also offer online class reservation which is nice. If you are in the Murray hill area or anywhere near grand central area you should check them out. It's even worth traveling to in my opinion! read more

I originally discovered Mang'oh in 2011 when I worked in the area. I love the ambience of the studio, the boutique feel with individual attention, and especially the teachers. Despite moving offices since, I kept Mang'oh in mind when I was ready to do yoga teacher training (YTT) and I have absolutely no regrets in completing my 200 hour certification here! I really loved every moment of the YTT program. Mang'oh YTT fostered an environment of learning, exploration, curiosity, creativity, comfort and growth. I felt an obvious shift in the awareness of my practice and the evolution of my teaching style. The retreat was also such a treat and I think really enhanced the experience with a week's worth of full-time devotion and immersion, in addition to the weekend sessions in NYC. I learned many new things throughout and am still hungry for more! read more

Was on vacation and my aunt is really into yoga so she thought it would be fun to take a class. We ended up at the Sunday morning core class and it was a great workout. I take pilates and haven't taken a yoga class in at least 3 years so I was a little scared, but there was nothing to be scared of. The core class was a pilates/yoga combo and the instructor was excellent. Her direction was clear; her demonstrations were easy to see; and she did a really nice job of observing the room. Also, loved her choice of props -- foam roller and magic circle made for some killer ab exercises. The studio is on the first floor of a secured building. They had ceilings and ceiling fans which made the full class really comfortable. This is a really cute studio with quality instructors. If I lived/worked in the neighborhood, I'd be a regular! read more

I just started coming to mang'Oh yoga as a ClassPass subscriber and can tell that this is definitely a spot I'll be using up by 3 limit max at. I have taken the Sunrise Express yoga class at 6 am a few times and really liked both instructors (Gloria on Monday, Josh on Thursday). The class is ideal for all levels, and the studio is open, inviting, clean, and bright. I particularly liked how hands on Gloria was with the Monday class. I've taken quite a few yoga classes over the past five years or so but am by no means an advanced participant, so I really appreciated her gentle and encouraging touch. Awesome way to start the day! I did the 7-day Trail for $30 and got 3 classes in during that time. I went to two Happy Hour Core Yoga classes and one Chill Out Yoga class, experiencing three different instructors along the way. All three were excellent, super chill and competent. I felt really safe and comfortable in their hands. All three classes were small, which I love! The studio space is small and oddly shaped but the instructors make it work. The smell and the environment is super relaxing and chill. I really like the ability to book classes online. Mat rentals are $2. I'll def be back. read more

Came for the happy hour yoga and while the teacher Katherine Willert was sweet and kind, the sequence of poses seemed a bit choppy and I left the class without feeling particularly refreshed or reinvigorated, which was slightly disappointing. However, I'm glad I came back for the level 2/3 vinyasa flow class with Djuna Passman, because it was AMAZING. In fact it was perhaps the best vinyasa flow class I have been to in a while. It was fun and challenging, and the sequence of poses was great and interesting. She has an encouraging attitude, does not take herself overly seriously, and helps create a sense of calmness. (Sidenote: I did feel that the voice she was using seemed slightly unnatural, almost like she was trying too hard to sound soothing, but this is really a minor thing and I'm sure one would get used to it.) Now if only the studio were a little closer to the subway! Well, whenever that 2nd avenue line gets built, then we'll be in business. read more

I did a drop-in candlelight yoga class last week while visiting NYC and it was just what I needed! The class was at capacity, but I didn't feel cramped. The instructor was fantastic, gave hands on adjustments and was very thorough in her explanation of asanas. I will definitely be back next time I visit NYC for business or pleasure! read more

I like the teacher at Mang'o, they are really good. The kidn of teachers that you just need to listen to follow the flow. I've gone to several yoga studios and enjoy the ones that know how to keep the Yogis focused on the breathing. I found out that some of the teachers are into something more spiritual and take their time to give a nice introduction, some go straight to workout mode, it's a good variety, after learning their names I picked my classes depending on my mood of the day and on what I wanted to achieve. The place is a tad too small, or maybe it is not but it is too popular and it can get crowded but that's ok, the quality of the classes definitely worth it. read more

I took my first yoga class (ever in my life) at Mang'oh in March of this year. I LOVE this studio!!! I attend classes about 5 to 6 times a week. The staff and teachers are just wonderful and Erica is a treasure. I started out taking their "Candlelight yoga" and I realized after I got home, showered and went to bed, I had the deepest most restful sleep I've had in years!!! Soon I started getting in better shape and moved on to the more advanced classes. I've started losing weight; I'm stronger and more flexible than I've been in years. I also feel much calmer and I am very aware of when I am breathing deeply throughout the day. This studio has made a huge difference in my life!!! After the generous 2 week trial period, I immediately signed up for the monthly price, which is a bargain compared to the 5 other studios I looked at before finding Mang'oh. I also love the studio - it's spacious, with big windows and good ventilation. The studio is very well run: Every month there is a new and challenging "Pose of the Month" which helps all students stretch beyond their comfort zones and gives us something to strive for. Signing up for classes online is also very convenient and allows me to plan my schedule around the classes, so I can attend regularly. It's just always nice to arrive early, set up my mat, grab a bolster and feel the stress of the day slowly dissipate. If you live in or near the Murray Hill area, you should give this little treasure a try - it's a very reasonably priced, well run, clean studio!!! read more

Mang'Oh Studio is where I was fortunate enough to take my 200 hour teacher training. The training course was intense but there isn't a day that goes by that I semi miss the 'madness' of it all (especially when having a full time job). With that being said, I wouldn't replace a minute of the program, nor replace the teachers. After teacher training, I began to shadow, assist and sub with many of the teachers I had while being a student. Chintamani is one instructor and teacher that I had that I have been blessed with. She takes time out of her day to email me updates and notes on yoga, especially new articles and keeps me updated on the latest news- whether it it body, yoga or related to energy/spiritual work. She has allowed me to shadow her around NYC and has blessed me with subbing her classes while she is away or unable. We have spent hours going over the program, re-educating ourselves and coming up with new ideas (brain storming). Whenever, I have a questions she is always a quick text, email or facebook message away. She has given me the confidence to go out into the world and to give my gift of practice. This studio is truly wonderful in many ways but I wanted to write specifically to highlight a recent meditation workshop I attended at the end of May led by Chintamani Kansas. I am a beginner at meditation and this was a great introduction to meditation practice. In particular, Chintamani appreciates that meditation can be challenging and everyone needs to move at his or her own pace. For example, I have some difficulties with remaining still generally (let alone meditating) and Chintamani helped me to identify some movements I could incorporate into the practice that made the transition easier. I especially liked that the workshop included both time for meditation and discussion about how the meditation went for each individual. It was really interesting to hear group members' reflections on the meditation, and a great way to spark some conversation between people in the Mangoh Community. Lastly, all the participants were provided with a set of in-depth hand-outs and follow-up materials about meditation philosophy for us to use at home. I love this! I look forward to returning to these compilations for inspiration and a sense of history as I continue to develop my meditation practice. read more

Crowded. Most instructors are fine but some are rude and lack common sense. I had one instructor (C. Kansas) telling me in front of everyone in the class that my yoga blanket is "Illegal" because she thinks it may be slippery to practice on. read more

I wanted to use their floor while waiting for the Kass to start and they did not want to allow me to use it. I was appalled that they would be greedy with their space. Didn't even like the classes! So, I am the furthest thing from a yogi you will find... but I was advised that I could use some help relaxing. As I live in Murray Hill I checked out the yoga studios near by that had a) classed for relaxation yoga and b) classes late at night and mang'Oh yoga fit the bill. I went to the Monday night Candlelight Yoga class and walked out feeling like a completely different person. The instructor was fun, which I didn't expect, very clear on how to do things and very soothing. I actually look forward to going back and that is not something I ever thought I would say.
