Awful experience this is not a real yoga studio. Its pretentious and snotty. First class no code for the door in the reminder email. Apparently code only in the initial email when you first book. After looking I finally have to use the keypad directory. Im let in but I am 2 minutes late and not allowed in. Ive practiced yoga for over 20yrs this is not what yoga is about. Many classes Ive been in a few minutes of grace and kindness is given. Not here. I would avoid a place with policy like this is not a safe place for yoga. read more

I came to Humming Puppy seeking out a more restorative style studio and also out of curiosity for the 'hum'. The hum is a curated soundscape designed to enhance your focus and is played throughout the entirety of class followed by a sound bath. The Mellow Hum class that I signed up for said that you will find restoration, recovery and deep reflection with low impact stretches. It was a beautiful experience. What I loved, * The hum was a consistent vibration that you could feel throughout your entire body the whole class. * Studio room is exquisite. No mirrors, the mats are pre-set up and stadium style. There's a low incline for each row of mats so that people in the back can see the instructor easily. * There's low lighting and all the props you could need. * The instructor, Katey Lewis was well versed in sanskrit and modifications and provided a very beautiful closing note that I appreciated. * They offer tea in the lobby for pre and post class. This was phenomenal after class to have something warm. They had two different kinds, both delicious. The studio is a great inclusive space for yogis looking to practice the heart and soul of yoga. I'm not sure how much a drop in/membership is but you can find them on Classpass. Also to note, when I posted about my visit on Instagram a couple of my yoga instructor friends in California talked about how much they've been wanting to come here so it sounds like this place is well known around the country/globe. read more

It's so unfortunate that I have to update a Review to Rate 1 Star due to lack Customer Service Experience & being human. Anyone that takes yoga classes knows that there is strict time policy however as Humans we can make the judgment call to make an exception under 5mins when a class is not filled or offer another option. Bethsaida was so concerned on enforcing a late policy / charging a late fee that I was instantly disappointed in the check in. She didn't offer to reschedule & refused. I could have been on the verge of suicide & needed to be in a yoga class. Business is Business even in the yoga community. Had an excellent class where we flowed, om'd, and finished in shavasana with a sound bath. Now I'm not saying this is the type of yoga people are doing in India but if you don't appreciate traditional yoga this studio may not be for you. Our teacher, Dana, was well-versed in the Sanskrit translations of our poses and and is well versed on yogi principles. This is something pretty hard to fine in NYC yoga classes. This isn't a HIIT workout with music blasting, I believe they were playing brown noise during class and we weren't pushed too far. Definitely not a crazy workout but I'm getting back into my practice so it was perfect for me. After class, there was tea for us in the lobby, one caffeinated and one with low caffeine. In town for a week and was looking for a place to continue my regular yoga practice in the NoMad area. Signed up for a class at Humming Puppy on a Saturday and was glad I did! Studio has a cool, laid back vibe, it was very clean and they provided everything - just need to show up with yourself and and maybe some water. I took a 60 minute Unity class which was a great blend of effort and ease - accessible to all levels, assuming some basic knowledge of postures. There are other difficulty levels available as well. The name Humming Puppy comes from the rhythmic sound of the bowls which plays in the background in lieu of music and is designed to get you into flow. I found it quite soothing. Loved the class so much I took another on Sunday. Nice lounge and tea service to extend your relaxation post class. Great place to get your zen on! read more

A bit of heaven in NYC. I'm ecstatic that Humming Puppy reopened in May 2022. Of all the places in New York that I was worried about surviving the COVID era, Humming Puppy was one of only two places I was concerned about. I am so happy that everything has stayed the exact same, in a great way. The studio is absolutely beautiful and calming. The classes are great, with a dull hum in the background of every class instead of music. While the classes are solid and great, I LOVE the sound bath they do during shavasana. They have separate sound bath classes available, which may go to. There are currently 3 class difficulty types, but I can't tell a big difference between the unified hum (for everyone) and dynamic hum (offers advanced variations). At the end of class, there are two types of teas available (and water) available in the lobby. I miss the coconut water of the pre-COVID days. The studio provides Manduka mats, blocks and straps for no extra fee (!). There are also hand towels available for use. There's 4/5 shower stalls and 2 bathroom stalls if you want to get ready there as well. I love how calming, meditative, and soothing Humming Puppy is every time I step into the studio. Caveat to my review: I signed up for the mellow hum not really knowing what to expect, and clearly it wasn't the class for me, but I also don't think that the website fairly describes the vibe. The class is described as being mostly seated or laying down positions held for minutes at a time, which isn't necessarily inaccurate, but definitely doesn't adequately describe just HOW meditative-focused the class is. I was expecting mostly seated stretching, more advanced back and/or leg poses, etc, and it was glorified adult nap time. At one point, the instructor had us make a bed out of the blocks and lay down for a few minutes. It is a truly beautiful studio and you're greeted with coconut water and tea upon entry, which is a lovely touch. The setup of the studio is awesome and has a very cool depth to it with several rows of mats facing each other. The locker rooms are a little confusing but were very clean and had nice products. All in all, the studio itself is great, but the class was just a big disappointment. I would probably return to try a different one, but wouldn't go back to the Mellow Hum. In all fairness I did feel relaxed after going, but I don't feel like I had any sort of exercise. read more

Every detail of this space is carefully crafted with intention. The Goliath by Christopher Boots is so grounding and beautiful as it brims with smoky and clear quartz. The gorgeous flower arrangements by fleursBella are just so grand and sophisticated, the beautiful coconut water pitcher by Fefo Studio gives it a kick of zen, and the bathroom products by Aurora Spas and the hair dryers & straightening irons by GHD hair gives it a touch of luxury. The asanas are practiced in a nice dim studio that is painted all black. The temperature is around 80ish degrees. The practice is pretty simple since it's done in a heated room, however it is deepened by the "humming" vibration diffusing throughout the quiet space. The "hums" are by no means accidental. It's a combination of 7.38Hz and 40Hz frequencies, which brings you into a meditative zero state, while allowing you the option to experience the vibrational state without being out of your physical body. This studio is well equipped with complimentary towels, mats, filtered water, tea, coconut water, hair straighteners and dryers, lockers with key locks, hair ties, shower caps, etc., making it convenient when you're an on the go yogini. If you're coming for practice, it is recommended to sign up online and reserve your mat space ahead of time as they fill up pretty quickly. First timer here! This studio is incredibly clean, calm and welcoming. I love that they provide all the tools needed for the class. I took my class (Mellow Hum) with Amy and she's incredible. She's very patient and is attentive to all the first-timers. I love that they refrain everyone from bringing technology into the studio. It provides a safe space to be in tune with your body and mind. They provide tea before and after class, which is a huge plus. Will definitely be returning back for more classes! Love this studio - everything from the classes to the aesthetics. (Beautiful decor and they offer tea and coconut water!) I've been doing yoga for a while and when I first moved to NY found it a bit strange that a lot of yoga studios either move to hip hop music or are in complete darkness. Maybe it's to make yoga appealing and "cool" but that's not really how yoga is meant to be. This yoga is real. Quiet, meditative, and the instructors will correct your pose to help you get better and not injure yourself. They have Mellow Hum, Foundational Hum, Unified Hum and Dynamic Hum. They increase in intensity in that order. I switch between Unified Hum and Mellow hum - Mellow is great if you want to slowly stretch out and relax. Try a class with Tejal Patel or Jen Carlin! And it's not called humming puppy for no reason. Love the "humming" from the orbs at the end of class. Great way to relax before or after work. Hope I can visit the Sydney studio one day! read more

I took a unified hum session on Saturday and it was different from what I had expected. It was a yoga heavy class and I was looking for something more focused on breath and vibration. So I should have probably taken the mellow hum session instead. When you walk in, take off your shoes and then check in with the front desk. They'll give you all the info. You'll basically be directed to walk down a hall to the lockers. You don't need to bring your own lock. Then you can go walk back up the hallway to the class. The class is leveled so everyone can see the teacher. No one's view is obstructed in any way. It just wasn't my vibe. It wasn't an easy class - so I'm not sure it's really a beginners class. Maybe some humming at the end. I also like when teachers correct your posture and mine didn't. I know it's flow on your own rhythm kind of a thing but it is still beneficial to get some pointers. All in all, it's a nice space though. read more

I took a zoom Unified Hum class. It wasn't what I was looking for personally. But maybe it works for you. What I liked: - teacher gave good cues - no opportunities to hurt yourself Wasn't for me: - "gym yoga" in the sense of being workout focused rather than building understanding of asanas. Maybe similar to a Y7. Included some Pilates like moves. - the flow was a bit repetitive. I felt it would have been better if the teacher came up with a longer sequence to fill up an hour rather than repeating each part of the sequence multiple times. - not many challenge poses or variations. In all fairness maybe it's my fault for assuming the class is Open Level when it's beginner level. Even though it's not what I'm looking for, was still a good low intensity workout for an evening. read more

I have been having a lot of back pain and know that yoga would be great for it. I searched for a studio that would meet my needs and this one came up. I have been now taking the foundation class for the last two months and absolutely love it. Laura is the best and she's a fantastic teacher, it's just a great class for beginners and non beginners alike. Anyone that wants to get a good stretch in and relax. I love the studios atmosphere, the free tea and water that is delicious and the waiting area that is so comfortable. The locker room is pretty small but it works. I highly recommend this studio because of the diversity of classes and openness to folks that arent advanced. The hum is really unique too. The lobby is beautiful, the locker room is clean, the instructor was ok, there is complimentary tea and water, and yoga room was spacious and looked new. We went here for a sound meditation class. We were late, so the class was rescheduled for later. Protip: Show up early! They won't let you in otherwise. The later class was nice. We were provided with mats, blankets, cushions and other props. There were fresh towels to cover your cushion. A constant Beta hum of a recorded meditation bowl played throughout the yoga session. Protip: Grab a pillow, blanket, and fresh towel. You might need it later. If not, you can always return it after the class. The class that we took was more mellow and less work out intensive class. It involved stretching, holding a pose, and meditating and deep breathing. The sound portion came mostly at the end. I enjoyed my time here! read more

There's also a hair dryer and hair straightener. 4) They have mats, towels, blocks, straps all ready for you in the yoga studio so you don't have to bring anything! 5) Vibe: everyone is welcoming and warm 6) Yes, I love the humming sound! A very beautiful modern, and minimalistic yoga studio that provides you all the amenities you need for class without the hassle. They provide: -lockers with key locks (in the open space and inside the locker room) -hairties -filtered water -coconut water -tea -yoga mat -towels -lounging/couch area -hair straightener/hair dryer -vanity area for you to get ready in -4 showers in each locker room area I took one of their complimentary classes recently (mellow hum) and was pleasantly surprised by how nice the studio is. I took a 7:30am class and there was a good amount of people there. It does get crowded during the AM hours if you're planning on showering after class since there are only 4 showers available. The studio itself is heated to a warm 80 degrees that is honestly not very hot. Mats are still slippery but that is because they are new and require a bit of time to be broken into. My first class was a beginners class so it was good for my SO who was learning the flows. I think a class that is more of a sculpt class, with light weights and moderate cardio, would be good for this studio. It would entice the HIIT fanatics looking for a "rest day" activity. read more

Upon arrival, I felt a calming energy and the employees here are very friendly and made me feel very comfortable. The studio is super clean, offering free hot tea while you wait, along with a clean locker room with showers. The actual studio was perfectly heated and the class is set up almost like a stadium style... your instructor will be in the center and the rows are elevated so everyone is able to see. Completed my third class at Humming Puppy today - what a beautiful space! The first two classes were Fundamental Hum classes (one with Jen and the other with Niki) and today's was a Unified Hum class with Kurt. The Foundation Hum classes are good for beginners, very slow paced with an emphasis on breathing and alignment. Today's 2:30 pm Unified Hum class was about 95% full. I appreciated Kurt's detailed instructions and the moderate pacing of the class. When you book class, you choose your mat which is great because it avoids a rush into the room to claim your spot. There are two bathroom stalls in the ladies room and four shower stalls. The lockers have built-in locks so there is no need to carry your own. The Manduko mats can be a bit slippery. My Yogitoes towel really helped with sweaty palms in downward dog. Or you can grab one (or more) of the white hand towels made available in the shala. read more

From the moment I stepped into the studio, the tone was set to have a lovely experience. The space has this beautiful natural lighting, the lobby is clean and beautiful with a nice layout of crystals, plants and lots of sitting space. We were welcomed by a kind staff member that showed us around and offered us tea and coconut water. The studio has a no technology policy and they offer to charge your phone during class which seemed like such a classy way of asking you to honor that rule. The locker room was clean and had essential products and tools for showering and body/hair care after. The class itself was like stepping into a different world. From then intentional, calming vibration to the stadium setup to the uniform mats and blocks, I felt instantly grounded. The instructor was fantastic. I sincerely appreciate her intention of balance and how she wove it throughout class from asanas to the yoga practice in our daily life off the mat. Her sequence was so well thought out and felt amazing on the body. Her holds were consistent from posture to posture and she allowed enough time in each pose to really find effort, space, ease and breath. This studio is on the second floor where you have to enter a code in order to get in. As you enter the studio you will see a total mess of shoes everywhere since everyone takes their shoes off before they enter the main studio. The main area is nice and bright with some hot tea and coconut water available for everyone to drink. You will walk into a hallway with mirrors on one side which makes you feel a bit dizzy- turn to the left and you can change into your yoga clothes in the ladies room. The changing room was very crowded and the floor has countless wet spots which made me regret for not bringing my slippers as I hate dirty floors especially in a bathroom. Imagine what those spots of water could be- maybe pee, maybe sweat, it could be anything and everyone is stepping on it and transferring it all over the studio including the yoga mats etc. ugh you can imagine the rest. I think in order to fully relax in yoga the studio should feel crisp and clean, the main area of humming puppy is bright and crisp but clean? I'm not so sure. The yoga room and yoga itself was great, not super crowded like equinox. Overall I think pure yoga and equinox has a better studio in terms of having a cleaner bathroom where there is always a team of people in the bathroom at most if not all the time making sure everything is clean which really means a lots as dirty changing rooms and bathroom makes people feels so dirty and can't relax in the yoga process, but if you don't mind the space and condition of the changing room/shower/ bathroom then the yoga is just as good as the experience you would get in a pure yoga or equinox. read more

While many community fitness studios encourage a sense of community, this is one of the first where I actually saw people hanging out before and after their class. You can also reserve your own mat, something that I have not seen elsewhere. I attended a dynamic hum class. While it was not as focused on Vinyasa as other studios, it allowed for a great workout. This is a fancy yoga studio! If you like amenities during your yoga session, this is the place. This studio is super clean and has the comfiest waiting/resting area. While you are waiting for your session you can have coconut water, water or tea. There are even hair ties if you need. I've taken one of each of the 3 classes. They were all very good. The dynamic hum which is the most difficult level is no joke. I was sore for days afterwards and sweat bullets during the session. I love Humming Puppy! I recommend it to everyone. The instructors are amazing, the space is beautiful. It's my favorite place for yoga in the city. There are three different types of classes Hum (for beginners), Unified (all experience levels), and Dynamic (advanced). I've done all three and they definitely stick true to what they advertise. The space is beautiful. You walk in and there is a table with a huge arrangement of flowers where you can find coconut water and some AMAZING tea. There's a beautiful crystal that hangs in the window and couches to sit on while you wait or sip your tea. The instructors are very knowledgeable. They will take their time to correct your form but also ask at the beginning of each class if you would prefer that they don't. Each instructor had a different style so it allows you to switch up your practice, which I like a lot. They will take the time before or after class to answer any questions you may have. Went here for the mellow hum community class. This was a slower paced class where you held stretches for an extended amount of time (3-4 min each). Lots of props were available to use including blankets, blocks and long pillows. The instructor highly encouraged the use of props to optimize comfort. The class was quite relaxing and at the end I was actually sweating less than at the beginning of the class (it was hot and humid outside). Living up to its name there was a low frequency hum emitted throughout the class that is supposed to be beneficial while practicing yoga. At the end of the class the instructor used some large stone bowls and other devices to accompany the hum. Complimentary tea and coconut water was available at the end of class. Comfy couches were perfect for lounging on after class. The lobby was decorated with flowers and one particularly large hanging crystal to complete the relaxing atmosphere. Locker room was clean, modern and had keyed lockers that were free to use. I'd return to try a different class. read more
