I had a very disappointing experience with Erik's Bike Shop. We purchased a brand-new pair of skis and bindings from the Rochester store. Their technicians also professionally mounted and tested the bindings when we purchased new ski boots. Despite this professional setup, the binding unexpectedly released while my son was skiing, causing him to fall. After only two ski trips, the skis were also already visibly chipped. When we brought the equipment back to the store, they refused to issue a refund. The only option they offered was a replacement from the same manufacturer, even though we had already lost confidence in the product's safety and quality. What was even more disappointing was the customer service. Both the Rochester store manager and corporate customer service were dismissive of our concerns. Instead of addressing the safety issue, they insisted the remedy would not be a refund and suggested the problem could be "as simple as a screw coming loose." They even tried to blame the situation by saying my son weighs more now than when the bindings were set, even though the bindings had been professionally adjusted and tested by their own technicians just the month before. For a shop that markets itself as a professional ski service provider, this response showed very little accountability when something goes wrong. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend buying skis or having bindings serviced here. I blame myself for giving them a second chance. A while back, they improperly installed a wheel and I avoided injury, but it was a safety issue for sure. The manager wrote me and he did correct the issue and knock a bit off my price but I had a bad taste about the situation. Fast forward to July 4, they were open and I needed a new seat. I figured I'd give them a second chance. I went in and was greeted immediately bought the seat and asked them if they would install it. Well the first time I took out my bike, I was six miles out and the seat was wobbling like crazy. I got off and the seat literally could be easily moved almost 360 degrees. Ugh I rode six miles back standing the entire time to avoid a certain injury. They clearly don't train their staff or perhaps the staff just doesn't care. Either way, I'm done. My safety is too important. I'd rather install myself than take another chance here. read more

Had a bad experience with Eriks bikes. When I put money down on the bike the manager said when it comes in bring you shoes, pedals and saddle and we will put you on a trainer and get you set up at least get you started. The manager was not there and the staff basically said we dont do that. I told them I can manage it myself and will probably get a different saddle and change out the stem. Good luck they said. In trying to change out the stem i had to do some work to find out the the Future shock stems are not compatible so you need a shim that Specialized makes to adapt a standard road shim. Buried deep in the literature. I check with Specialized and they told me that should have come with the bike. I check with another retailer who confirmed that. Eriks told me it doesnt come with the bike and they will have to order it because they dont carry it in stock. 8-10 cyclist change out stems on a new bike and the least they could have done was told me I needed the shim but it almost seems like they didnt know. The shop is 45 miles from Winona so 90 miles round trip. The service guy told me he would look into it and see what he could do but its been 3 days so I dont expect to hear back. Very disappointing service at the shop. I can't comment on sales. I went on Wednesday to have my mountain bike serviced. Which I bought elsewhere. The bottom bracket was giving me some issues so I figured they would replace it. In addition I knew by bike needed a much needed tune-up. MAIN reason for bringing my bike in in the first place. Everyone was courteous. Immediately upfront they told me I needed a new bottom bracket, chain, and rear cassette (which was fine). FYI - Prices for all Shimano components were on average 20-25 bucks more expensive than most other places I've been before or if you order them online. My disappointment started when they told me that they would return the bike "early next week" they wouldn't even give me a date. Since spring is just here I was understanding of the situation that maybe it was just bad timing and left the bike... No call on Monday. So I decided to call in and I was told to stop by and get the Bike on Tuesday. Tuesday arrives and when I go to pick up the bike I get that after having the bike for 6 days: "We haven't had the chance to start working on it... give me 1 hr". I went to kill some time at Trader Joe's next door and when I came back I realized that I literally payed $200 for three over priced components and installation. Gears were not tunned, brakes were not adjusted, bike was as dirty as when I left it, in addition it now had grease stains all over. After paying and noticing all these problems I went back and the mechanic apologized that whoever received the bike forgot to mentioned all the other issues I wanted addressed on the "tune-up". He was nice to give it a 15 mins quick check but this was clearly not the service or attention to detail one would expect from a professional bike shop. I ended up paying $200 for three components and installation and NO TUNEUP. I have learned over time that sometimes it's just better not to give anyone a hard time (vast majority of times it's not the employees fault) and decided to take your business elsewhere. (I was planning to buy a new bike for my wife... your loss) Down the road a few days later I found "An Honest Bike Shop". Completely night a day experience. I wish I had come to this shop in the first place. They immediately spotted broken cables, tunned up the bike, fixed a flat, and installed a broken spike protector in under 20 minutes. I have been to shops in more than 4 states and this has been by far my best experience. Everyone was courteous, the mechanic payed attention to details, addressed all issues, gave me a few pointer and even let me watch all repairs and adjustments (You will even learn a thing or two while you watch) and best of ALL it cost me a fraction of what they charge at Erik's. I am a Mayo physician who supports local businesses. I don't mind paying extra as long as I get quality service. read more

I bought 3 bikes from Eriks and the process went well. They have a good inventory compared to some of the other shops. Simple difference for me was the store hours are better as we were buying ours on a Sunday afternoon and the competitors were closed or closing soon. read more

I cannot speak for the in-store experience, however, if you purchase at eriksbikeshop.com you will be sorry you did. I purchased a bike trailer which was damaged in shipping due to the fact that Erik's packaged it in a box twice the size of the trailer with minimal packaging materials. This resulted in the trailer getting mangled to the point it could not be assembled, and the box in pieces. I contacted Erik's the day I received the trailer via email, and then after receiving no response by phone. I was told they were going to get me a replacement trailer. 5 days go by with no follow-up, so I contacted my bank to open up a damaged product case. Only after my bank contacted Erik's did they respond to my email and blamed me for opening the dispute after they did not respond for a week "...disputing the charges puts us in a difficult position to determine the best course of action". Eventually, they were able to find a replacement at another store and wanted me to work with that store manager to resolve the return and replacement. At this point, I said "No thank you" and requested to return the trailer for a refund. I expressed concern about returning the trailer in a broken oversized box and they reiterated the fact that they were going to blame FedEx for the damage "The product has already been damaged by the shipper and if it gets a bit more damaged it won't make a difference." If you decided to roll the dice and purchase something from Erik's online store here are my suggestions: -Take pictures of everything - they will take no responsibility for any issue and blame you or the shipper, your bank, or someone else for any problems. They will not take responsibility. -Communicate via email and call - they are extremely slow to respond to anything with the exception of a bad review. -Record all phone calls. I moved to Rochester from western Colorado, where all bike shops are high-end, filled with staff who are passionate about cycling. I was looking for the same type of shop in Rochester, but not having much luck. After trying all the mom-and-pop type shops in town, and walking away disappointed, I went to Erik's. Scott and his team are excellent, always friendly and helpful. I took my $7,000+ carbon mountain bike (purchased in Colorado, not at Erik's) to Erik's for a simple bearing replacement, but it was discovered the frame was damaged and had to be replaced. Scott worked with the manufacturer and got a warranty replacement frame that I am ecstatic about. Erik's definitely has the fancy Colorado shops beat on selection, with so many bikes in-stock, ranging from kids balance bikes to $10,000+ carbon racers. Initially, I didn't want to go to the "big box" bike shop, but am so glad I did. Erik's is the best bike shop in Rochester! read more

I visited 3 other bike shops before making my purchase, and this Erik's was my favorite bike store. Scott, the manager, and his salesmen are knowledgeable and courteous. I bought the wrong bike for my needs at another Erik's, and Scott helped me find the right bike for me. This location has a giant interior so that the bikes are spread out and you can really see them, vs bike shops in the city where the bikes are all crammed on racks. They also have a nice trail nearby to test drive the bikes, as long as you leave your ID and credit card. My bike is having a couple issues with shifting, but I am confident they will be addressed and I will update this review accordingly. read more

I stopped by this afternoon because we have two bikes that needed attention. One needed a tune up or evaluation before use since it had essentially been on the shelf for over a year. The other seemed to have difficulty with braking. When I entered, the two guys working were quick to ask how they could help me and in fact helped me bring the bikes in off my car. They immediately evaluated each bike and actually cleared one of the bikes for riding without any time or any charge. The second bike, they were quick to diagnose the problems with the brake and give a very realistic recommendation that repair would be more expensive than buying a new bicycle. Finally, they again helped load the bikes back on my bike rack. Overall, the experience was great! They gave me their time, thought and experience free of charge. So here's my updated review for Erik's. The day after the horrendous glove debacle, I got a voicemail from the actual manager, Steve. He said basically that he had received word of what had happened and that it was not the way it should have happened and he wanted to work with me to solve my problem. Although he sounded very nice and sincere, I honestly was not even going to return his call, I was still that upset about the two unhelpful employees. I finally decided that everyone deserves another chance and I should at least hear what he has to say. I called him back and he again apologized and assured me that he values all their customers and although it really is Da Kine's policy to deal with the consumer directly, he wanted to replace my defective gloves. They were out of stock so he said he ordered the replacements and they would be at the store in a week. A week minus one day later, Steve calls to let me know the gloves are in and my daughter and I head down to pick them up. He personally brought out the gloves and made the exchange, apologizing again. We talked a bit about what had happened and about my other experiences at the store (all positive up to that point). What I liked best was that Steve seemed genuine and had obviously taken the time to review my past purchases, as he did mention the specific bike and tires that I had previously purchased. Once the glove transaction was complete, he helped me pick out a pair of goggles (I coincidentally lost my glasses earlier that day). He also answered my questions as I shopped for some items for my husband. To sum that up, I'm glad that I gave Erik's a second chance because there are at least a couple people there who really seem to enjoy what they're doing and do try to be helpful and go that extra mile when need be. I'm upgrading to three stars for now because, unfortunately bad experiences do make huge impressions! Also because now I know I'll have to check items for defects extra carefully before I buy them. read more

Steer clear. We took our bike in for a full tuneup. It took a few days, which I am sure is normal. So, I stopped by and picked it up when they called me to tell me it was done. I was in a hurry, so they let me know that they had to replace a wheel tube and sent me on my way. I got home and changed clothes to go on a ride. I immediately noticed (after sitting on it) that the tires that was not fixed was flat. I called back and let them know that I just spent $150+ and I came home with a flat tire. They said that i could bring it back and they would refill it. But who wants to drive 15 minutes each way? They didn't offer anything in terms of customer service or an apology. My wife and I recently purchased E-bikes from them and their sales staff was absolutely outstanding. They were knowledgeable, helpful and considerate without ever being pushy. They've been even better after the sale when I've come in with questions or needing help figuring out a component of our bike rack. I do not know what more I could ask for in a bike shop. I have frequented numerous shop in my cycling career and have never had a better experience. No they do not have bike parking out front but if an employee sees you ride up they are more happy to open and hold the door for you and help you with anything you need. The mechanics are EXTREMELY skillful. Eli and James are by far the best bike mechanics in the area and know their stuff past and present. The sales people have always been amazing. Very knowledgeable of the bikes and accessories and really try to get you the right bike and/or right accessory for your needs. I would highly recommend Erik's to anyone and I do. The guys here are great. As soon as I walk in, they ask how they can help. When I bring in a bike with a flat or other problems, they often fix it up right there and then. Sometimes I think it's something that will require dropping it off for a few days, but after 5 minutes the friendly bike magicians have it fixed and ready to go, sometimes with only a nominal charge. They've answered my dumb questions without treating me like an amateur who may be asking dumb questions. I really appreciate that. These guys know their stuff. read more

My husband and I went to Erik's Bike Shop in Rochester, MN very excited to purchase a new bike. We were expecting to spend $1,200-$1,500 on a bike knowing generally what we were expecting in a bike but needed assistance narrowing down which model, etc as we do not have experience with Specialized Bikes. Upon arrival we needed to wait outside due to policies now with only having so many people in the store. We expected this and were very happy and content waiting as it was a beautiful day and we were in no rush as we had planned this shopping trip for quite some time. That's were the good ended. We were let in the store by "Scott" (I believe that was his name, it started with an S) who was rude, unhelpful, and at times such a jerk I didn't know what to think. We explained to Scott what we were generally looking for but needed some assistance figuring out all our options. Scott had zero time of day for us, showed us a few bikes but when we would ask questions about the bike he would make a smart ass comment back. Other customers were able to test ride bikes in the parking lot and were having bikes being taken down off the racks....not us. Scott eventually told us other customers were waiting to come in and they can't come in until we leave. All told we were maybe in the store a total of 4 minutes. Needless to say we left with no bike and me almost in tears due to being treated so poorly. In the past we have purchased bikes, helmets, jackets, etc from this exact bike shop and have had nothing but great experiences. We will purchase a bike, which will be the most we have ever spent on a bike so want to make an educated purchase. It will not be from this shop. It will be highly unlikely we will ever return to this shop and will give our business to other bike and sports shops in Rochester, MN. read more

Bought our first bikes yesterday since grade school. The sales person was attentive and respected our price limit. He had us test out some bikes that fit our needs and adjusted things accordingly (lowered and tilted my seat, then had me test out a different size). We finally found our perfect bikes. I asked about the park kick, and he said "they don't come with the bikes here but we can add them on for free." Great. We got helmets and he also mentioned we can throw in water bottle holders "for free." Excellent. When we paid, it turned out we had to pay for them and they only install them for free. "Sorry I wasn't clear on that." It was a little annoying but whatever. We canceled the water bottle holders ($50 for 2, we figured we can get them elsewhere for cheaper). We biked around Rochester our first day and were in love, except suddenly my husband was changing gears on his bike and it all came undone. What!!! We took it back and they installed a new chain, said it may have been a rare manufacturing defect. Hope it doesn't happen again. Bikes are covered under warranty for life here. Despite a couple of things, I liked coming here and felt like they gave me what I wanted for my budget and didn't try to oversell. I recommend this place for anyone looking to get a beginner bike (can't speak for the pros!). read more

I swung by with the bike of one my daughters . She just picked up a new used one and wanted to move her rack and panniers from the old bike to the new one. I took the rack off the old one and found the bolts didn't work in the new bike. The new bike required different sizes. The person answering the phone told me that the store could help. I showed up an hour later and was told that in between servicing bikes one of the mechanics would sort through his odds and ends and find the bolts I needed for free. I went back and the mechanic did just that but he found they were too long and sawed them down to size and then offered to have one of his colleagues install the rack for free. While I waited, I got some questions answered regarding another bike and found what I needed to make those repairs. I was just charged for the parts on the second bike. Amazing service! read more

After searching around town for about a week, my girlfriend finally settled on buying a Raleigh from Erik's. Their customer service was the best out of any of the shops we visited in the area. Every member of the staff we interacted with was extremely helpful and friendly. Evan, an assistant manager at Erik's was our primary connect in shop, and had helpful answers to all of our questions. While other shops tried to talk us into a more expensive bike, Evan made sure that we got a bike within our price range and one that fit our needs. Erik's also had the best selection of bikes of any shop we'd been to, with the biggest variety in brands and type of bike. If anything should need work on our new bike, Erik's will be our go to bike shop. read more

I've been dealing with Erik's for almost a year now and 95% of the time I've had great experiences, so in short this is a great shop with great people working and you should definitely give them a look around if you're in the market for a bike, gear, board, etc. Breaking it down a bit more, their staff is usually always friendly, understandable, and in a good mood. I love that the staff understands sometimes you're not going to buy anything, you're just browsing trying to make up your mind, and they never make you feel awkward for doing that. I also like to compare prices and they don't have a problem with that. Most of the time they do have the best price, even better than I could get ordering online. However some items can be found cheaper through sites like Amazon, this is where box-stores need to stay competitive. They also have a large selection of products they can get their hands on that aren't displayed in the store, which is great because when I'm looking for a specialty item Erik's is a huge help. One area that can always use improvement anywhere is the mechanic/maintenance section. Overall I give them major praise, they're great about getting my bike fixed and back in an incredibly timely manner, helping with part choices, and are extremely friendly and helpful. They're also very knowledgeable and are able to diagnose most problems with a simple glance. Although not very often I've had to bring things in multiple times to get setup correctly (also had some really bad derailleur adjustments done on my wife's bike). However I don't fault them for this, while my bike knowledge is pretty low, I'm a machinist and have worked as a mechanic, so I'm completely understanding that some problems can't be sorted out without some trial and error. Though some of the best mechanics I've met have that instinct from years and years of experience, and everything they touch turns to gold. Overall this is one of the best bike shops I've been to with terrific employees that don't act like cocks. read more

I called to ask if they had an Adams-style Trail-a-Bike in stock the the salesperson stated they did and told me the price. I then called around to the other shops in town, excluding Bicycle Sports as their staff is unknowledgeable in both maintenance and product. Upon calling around, Erik's price was the best and I purchased an Adams Trail-a-Bike from them. There were only two people in the store at the time of purchase, so I did have to wait a bit to get helped. I have heard that their new store is much more well staffed and with unbelieveably knowledgeable people and if they don't know the answer, they'll do their best to find it. After my experience and hearing some friends' experiences at the new store, I think I'll stop by again. read more

I've been in to Erik's Bike Shop several times and purchased different items. I recently went with a problem. The child carrier mounted behind my seat severed where it attaches to the seat post. They took my problem seriously. The salesman checked weight limits on replacement parts and the service employee gave the situation his critical thinking immediately. Within about an hour they'd worked together, talked with me, solved my problem and the bike was fixed and ready for me and my two boys to ride home. (Another bike shop it town told me it was unsafe and they wouldn't sell me any parts to fix it.) We'll be regulars at Erik's from now on! read more

I dropped my bike for a repair and they said it would be done the next day and that they would call . 3 days later i called and was told we forgot to call but the bike is done . I should have checked the work because they did not fix the bike . it still had a bent rim and broken spoke . so when i returned they told me i needed to spend $130 on a new rim . So after explaining i already paid for the repair of the rim and spoke replacement that was not done they told me i was too big for the bike and needed a heavy duty back rim to ride on paved bike paths . So i asked why they sold me the bike ? They cant seem to answer that question. (I'm 265 pounds) My point is ERIK"S BIKES AND BOARDS is a dishonest company with a service department running scams .
