My husband had used Erik's during the last two moves and hired them for our move from our apartment to our new home on 7/15/2020. Everything was going well until the chandelier in our main hallway fell and broke when the movers will bringing up the mattress. ETA: Light was fixed on 7/22. I used these guys for the THIRD time, and was disappointed. Chad was helpful, but the other two guys I didn't know, and they were rushing and careless. They dropped and broke an under the bed tote, and in their rush to get the job done "fast," they were ramming my queen box spring into the 92 year old woodwork on the staircase. The house may not have been impeccable when I moved in (I'm renovating), but I certainly don't want to have to repair gouges or broken woodwork. I paid A LOT of money for this move, and I'm only angry at myself that I gave them a sizeable cash tip. I should have said that was with the proviso that everything arrived unbroken and with no carelessness in my house. (They didn't earn it). Wish I could give zero stars, i scheduled with them weeks before my move. They never contacted me again till the day of the move, I told them i had a two bedroom home and I was moving everything but 1 bedroom, same thing I told them when scheduled. They showed up an hour late and then claimed I had too much stuff for them to move and their truck wasnt big enough and it would cost me over $1600 and take 8 hours to do. I spoke to Eric to hire movers to move a two bedroom apartment less than 3 miles away to a new location. He committed to the move and the entire apartment was completely packed. The two men he sent looked like they just got out of prison, and showed up four hours late. They refused to wear masks and said they weren't vaccinated. They then looked around the apartment, said there was "too much to move today" and would come back in three days. This was completely unacceptable! I tried calling Eric and he refused to answer the phone and never replied to any texts. I got zero communication from him and this issue was never resolved. Totally left me hanging. read more

Beware. Will damage your house and appliances, leave them on the sidewalk, and leave you high and dry. Booked service to move a washer/dryer across town about 20 min away. Two movers came and transported the washer and dryer haphazardly down my staircase. No lifting straps, no plan. This resulted in multiple dents to the drywall on my staircase, damage to the baseboard, and they bent the top frame panel of the washer. When it was loaded into the truck I pointed out to the driver, Chad, the damage on the staircase and asked if this would be seen to. He called his boss. Then demanded I provide paint and spackle and he would fix it on the spot, I told him I was happy to get these but didn't have them with me. He then told me I would need to pay for the job immediately and in cash. I told him I would pay him when the job was complete and the washer and dryer were delivered in the location agreed upon. He became angry, told me the job was cancelled, and unloaded the washer and dryer onto my sidewalk. I immediately called the company and left a message and called 5 times more that day without a response. This is absolutely bizarre behavior on the driver/mover's part and inexcusable behavior on the company's part for not addressing this at all. read more

Trying to save some money in an easy cross-town Pittsburgh move, I tried these guys thinking low overheard might work. In a nutshell, these guys 1) cancelled day of move and told me to wait a day, 2) sent shady, low educated, belligerent guys when they did show up, 3) refused to do ANYTHING to help me protect light carpeting from their snow/salt boots, and 4) walked off the job in middle of move and left everything in my garage when I challenged them to do better. The owner, Eric, never came out, and chickened out to return complaint calls during move. The mover lead Chad acted like they were doing us a favor taking a $600 payday for a simple small move. These are disreputable bad guys that shouldn't even be allowed to haul junk, let alone your personal belongings. Erik's Hauling and Moving provided one of the most bizarre and unprofessional customer service experiences I have ever encountered. They were late, unresponsive, and left us hanging on our big moving day. I called Erik's on a Thursday hoping to get a reservation for movers as soon as possible. To my surprise, they had just received a cancellation that upcoming Saturday, and we were given that reservation, which was fantastic. Whoever I spoke with quoted me $276 for three hours of service to be provided by two men and a truck. He requested the start and end locations, which were two blocks apart from each other in Shadyside, and asked if the apartment we were moving from was a one bedroom apartment, which it was. He said they would be at our apartment at 9AM. Fast forward to Saturday morning. I get a call at 9:15AM that the movers are on their way. Twenty minutes later, I get another call from the movers saying they are lost and cannot find my apartment. I stay on the phone and direct them step-by-step, and they get to my apartment at 9:45AM. One of the two movers stayed by the truck, and the other came into our apartment to assess the situation. Our apartment was one bedroom, but because we have lived together for so long, we likely own more things than the average one bedroom apartment would hold. We were also somewhat under-prepared and had some boxes that weren't taped shut, although we had some well organized stacks of plastic containers and had cleared all major furniture items. Within seconds of stepping into the apartment, the moving man explained that the job was way too big for two guys and one truck, that someone had made a mistake at the office, that this move would set them too far behind in their schedule that day, and that he would have to call the boss. This seemed like a surprise, considering no questions regarding size of the job were asked, beyond confirming the apartment was one bedroom, but we figured he would call the boss and straighten things out. After 10 minutes, the mover came back into our apartment and repeated everything he had just said. He explained that we had too much stuff, they had too little space in the truck, that a move of this size would take an entire day, and that someone had made a mistake at the office. I asked him what that meant for our move that day, and he had no answer. He continued to repeat the same lines about us having too much stuff as if I didn't ask him a question or as if he didn't hear it. We then asked what his solution was, and he continued to repeat the same lines without considering/hearing what I was saying. We then asked if they could simply move whatever they could for 3 hours, as we agreed from the beginning, and then they could simply leave whenever they had to move on to the next job. We explained that we had no back-up plan, and had to move that day, so moving anything at all, particularly large furniture items, would be a big help. We even offered to help them load and unload the truck to speed things up. Throughout all of our offers and questioning, the moving man did not respond to any of our questions or acknowledge any of our requests. Almost as if programmed like a machine, he continued to repeat, over and over, that this move was too big. He seemed confused, dismissive, and determined to not work that day. At this point, extremely frustrated and concerned that nothing would be done at all, we explained that we really needed them to at least move our couch, bed, and a few other items. The moving man then explained that he had to step outside to call his boss. He went outside and the most remarkable thing happened next. We stepped into the living room and looked out the window to see him get into the truck with the other moving man and pull away. Yes, that is correct. They ran away. We called both the moving man's phone number and the office number multiple times throughout the day with no response. We had counted on paying for three hours of moving, and instead, the company showed up 45 minutes late, argued with us for 30 minutes, ran away, and then refused to answer our repeated calls. Because it was such last minute notice and a busy Saturday near the first of the month, all of the U-Haul trucks in the city of Pittsburgh were rented. So we took the utility van and moved our entire apartment to our new house by ourselves. It took about 6 hours, but we moved everything with a few helping hands and no help from Erik's Hauling and Moving. I understand that one rogue employee having a bad day, poor communication, or a genuine mistake is not always representative of an entire business. I have called the company multiple times every day since the event occurred, hoping to get an explanation from the business owner or at least talk about this specific employee and the business practices. As if my number is blocked, the phone rings and rings until the voicemail message plays. Moral of story: This was bad. read more

Wish I could give zero stars. This business is NOTHING like it's website presents. I found this "company" through the U-Haul "moving helpers" website option. I checked the "company" website and it looked decent. The experience was absolutely horrible. When I booked, I told the owner that we had a futon and maybe another piece of furniture that would need taken apart. He confirmed that the movers would do that. This was very important to my mother and I, that the movers would be able to do this. He said the cost of moving is for three hours and my 9am-12pm spot would be $440. We had a tiny apartment to move. All our boxes were ready. I called the owner and told him that I was running behind, but that I know the clock still started at 9:00. I arrived at 9:25. The guys were there and ready. Good. Unfortunately things rapidly deteriorated from there. I told the men very simple instructions --- the boxes labeled "storage" will go in their truck and be put in storage. The boxes labeled "daughter's house" would go in my suv. The men began moving the boxes. When I looked outside, were putting everything in the box truck. I repeated myself and they said they couldn't put anything in my suv. I even had a tarp down. They said they could only hand it to me. I said fine, put those boxes next to my suv and we'll do that. We also told them which mattress needed to stay in the apt. because it's uncovered, but they took it to the truck, making it dirty.There was a hope chest the size of a coffee table, it needed to stay upright because of some items in it, but they laid it on its side. The biggest problem came when I told them which piece of furniture needed taken apart. It is a simple wood futon that needs a wrench and has about 16 bolts total for the four sides. These guys stood there and said they don't do that. That they only moves boxes and stuff already taken apart. I told them that their boss knew and he must have miscommunicated to them. The men insisted that it was my fault. I asked them if they had a wrench and I would take it apart myself. These guys said they don't have any tools. Seriously. The website even says this is a full-service moving company and I specifically told the owner that we would need this taken apart. These guys kept going on that they don't have tools, that they aren't plumbers, that I'm wrong, etc etc etc. I told them they would have to take that up with their boss, but that I wasn't upset with them. However, they kept making rude comments, acting like we were inconveniencing them...Then they made a point to say the move would still be $440 and any taking apart of stuff would be extra. Which was bizarre anyway, because they didn't have the tools. I told them, nevermind the futon, just move what you can until 12:00. They also said they couldn't move the twin bed without taking it apart. Then they said they only take cash, I said fine. My mom started talking to me and the guy got an attitude with me. Next the guys are missing and I look outside and they are eating sandwiches. I said no, I'm not paying for you to eat sandwiches. Then he started yelling at me, saying he'll charge extra because I arrived after 9. I said what difference does it make, you are getting paid either way until 12:00. Why didn't they eat their sandwiches while they were being paid to wait for me? Then he yells the move will take longer than 12:00. This is absolutely insane. This is my mom's tiny one bedroom apartment with some boxes and only two dressers and a couple small tables. Because remember, they weren't taking the futon or the bed anymore and the storage is 4 miles away. I said I'm paying you until 12:00. I said I don't care about the rest of the boxes anymore. Let's just go to storage. Then dude says we'll leave your stuff on the street. By now, I can't trust these guys, they are so rude and unprofessional and crazy. I said fine, leave the stuff on the curb and I'll deal with it. He said they'll keep it until I pay. It's 10:30. I said I'll call the cops. Then he felt stupid and insisted on bringing the stuff back in the house. He was mad and said we don't want your money, we aren't moving your stuff, we're putting it back blah blah blah. I told them no, leave it on the curb. They ignored me and banged up my moms walls taking stuff back in. I video taped the 20 minute ordeal. There was no way I could trust these dudes not to lie. He accused me on video that they were putting the stuff back because I didn't have the cash. I pulled out the cash and showed my video. They called me a bunch of names and the one guy was going on about Donald Trump didn't get what he wanted and nobody gets what they want. ??? What??? This whole thing was the most bizarre and unprofessional thing I have ever experienced. I have used Erik's Hauling and Moving twice. Both times I was more than satisfied with their service. The first move it was just Joe and Tom. The second move, after filling a two bedroom apartment, it was again Tom, Joe and another gentleman. My most recent move was scheduled for a noon but they were running behind and called to notify me. They were apologetic and honestly I understood. People are not always 100% packed or they underestimate the amount of stuff that is being moved. I was clear when I called and said I had x-amount of large heavy pieces, two stories of steps and a storage unit that most of the stuff had to go to. I was given three men at a quote that was hundreds of dollars cheaper than any other estimate. Even if it did run over and was $65 an hour more, it was still more economical than some other options. My move admittedly took hours. I did as much prep as I could before though by color labeling where things went (storage, new place, and my dad's truck to be donated). My brother and I helped carry as much down the steps as possible. The truck was packed so that it could be unpacked first at the storage unit and then at my new place. The guys even packed my decorative mirrors and art in the back of my car bc I was concerned about damage. My plants arrives safe and sound at my new place too. One of the most significant things that sticks in my memory is that as the day dragged on and the deadline at which I would have to pay the extra hourly charge was approaching, the guys picked up the pace and hustled to get everything done within that original window. Realistically, with any moving company, you need to be your own advocate for a good move. My stuff was packed. I called and clearly explained how much I would have and didn't expect backbreaking work done at a record pace for pennies. Also, I confirmed with them the day before. Maybe some people expected them to call, but with such a major event happening, I was pro-active and made sure I was going to have the service I needed. Lastly, I think it is important to tip. I appreciated them helping me. Yes, I am paying for a service but it was hard work, snowing, and truthfully, those guys have a great sense of humor and I couldn't have done the move any easier. I had been recommended to use Erik's by another satisfied customer. I will use them again in the future. I scheduled a move with Erik's a few weeks in advanced. I did not hear from them until I called day of to ensure my appointment was still scheduled. Upon the time of the move (they were late but did call in advance to let me know which I appreciated), they immediately started moving all my stuff into the truck but was throwing it into the truck; not to mention the first item they brought out of my place was my dresser in which THEY BROKE OFF THE LEG BEFORE EVEN EXITING MY APARTMENT. Once we arrived at my new place, they unloaded in the same fashion that was loaded. Multiple items in the boxes I had packed were broken, including lamps/lamp shades, plates, decorations, etc. I had carefully packed everything and all the boxes were torn up by the time they were in my new place. I am very disappointed in this moving company. Not worth the money. so this is my story. we had a move scheduled for 1pm. a employee call this morning and asked me what they would be moving, i said a house then went into details. he said well we have to be done by 4:30. i hung up and asked my wife about it due to her booking. she was never told of a cut off time. my wife called eric and left a message and told him what we were calling about and about the time frame of the move. she also said that it sounded like the employee was more concerned about time job would be finished rather then our brlongs. the employee (wish i could remember his name) was calling to apologize for being rude. we never said he was rude in fact his calling us back shows how much he is a good man and i told him so. however erik never called us. he took the time to call his employee but not us. not to mention erik lied that shows how much of a man he isn't. i would not ever use this company. i would say to you skip over this mover. we called murdy movers. they are sending someone to look at the job (which erik should do) and try to get us moved even though they are booked. that is how you do business. again the employee has a lot of integrity the owner not so much. read more

My family moved apartments recently, just a few blocks down the street. We chose Erik's based on the reasonable-sounding price ($295 for the minimum of 2 guys and 3 hours, then $65 for each extra hour). The movers were friendly and professional and quick. They loaded our pretty sizable apartment into the truck in 2 hours and got it all moved into the new place within another 2 hours. The guys did a great job getting all our furniture up and down stairs and around corners without banging or scratching things. The guys said they couldn't take checks, but were fine with cash or credit card. My only concern: When we called a few weeks ago to book the movers, we were told to expect them at noon... but on moving day, they actually showed up at 9am. I'm really glad that we could move earlier, but we weren't 100% ready, so we had to rush to pack a few last things, strip the bed sheets, etc. while the guys were already hauling stuff into the truck. I also wish the office had called us a day before the move to confirm everything. It would have been great for peace of mind. So, that's a minor concern about the dispatcher or whoever at the office. But the movers themselves were great. We will definitely use them again next time we need to move (though hopefully not for a while!) read more

We had multiple friends and coworkers recommend Erik's Hauling and Moving so we didn't even bother getting other quotes; We just hired them. I should've known what we were in for when the man who answered my call didn't even ask for my name, just my address and phone number. I told him it was a large three-bedroom house with a LOT of contents to move. He told me it would be a three-man job and gave me a quote and we scheduled for the following Saturday. On Saturday, the movers called me while enroute and asked a bit more about the job. When I described it, they said it sounded like a three-man job and there were only two of them. They then called me back and said they had double-booked the day and would only be able to perform half of the move that day and they would do the other half the following Tuesday. Since that's insane, I declined and asked them to do the whole move on the Tuesday and they agreed. On Tuesday, they showed up, again with just two movers. I showed them all that needed moved and they called their boss to tell him it was a bigger job than they were expecting. He told them that I had lied to him and "undersold" the job. They then told me that they couldn't do the move that day, but they would come back the next with more help. At this point, we had only two days before we had to be out of our house, so we didn't have much choice and agreed. They came back the next morning with three guys and worked non-stop through the day with a majority of the move going to a storage unit and rest going to a temporary apartment nearby. They seemed to be doing decent work, but we later realized that nearly every single piece of our furniture was scratched or damaged, including the two antique pieces that we discussed at length about protecting. We had provided a mattress bag for our new mattress, but they said it made it too hard to move and assured me that it would be fine without it. They then dragged it up the concrete steps and across the filthy porch of our temporary apartment. The move then ended up costing significantly more than we were quoted. We later visited the storage unit to find our belongings haphazardly stacked and piled. Most of the boxes marked "fragile" were on the bottom of stacks of five or six boxes and crushed. We haven't been able to open them yet, but it's pretty clear that we will have a lot of damage. Many of our plastic totes that we used to move were cracked or broken. Pieces of disassembled furniture are scattered all over the unit. I cannot begin to properly describe just how unhappy we are with this company, but we will surely tell anyone who asks just how bad they were. Steer clear. read more

Back a few months two men, Chad and Cory moved my sister. During the move, Chad handed my sister money that had been under one of the dressers they were moving. Honesty is hard to come by with movers! Impressed by this honesty I decided to use Erik's hauling for my moving needs. HUGE MISTAKE. I had $1,900 IN A BOX. This money was to pay for moving fees amongst other things. This move, the were 3 men present. The original Chad, a guy named Jake and another guy named Chad (beer belly). My wife went to get cash out of the box and $600 was missing. I phoned Erik immediately and he sent his employees back to help us look for the "missing" money. To test their honesty I said that the $600 was sitting on our dresser. The original chad was taking with my wife and I when the beer belly Chad came down the stairs with our $600. He told us that he found it under our Bose speaker. Mockingly I asked him "did the dog sniff that out for you, buddy"? The man blatantly lied to our faces after robbing us. It had to have been him, because Jake and original Chad were still on the first floor with my wife and I. I may as well throw in the fact that the same beer belly Chad was taking inappropriately, with sexual innuendos to my wife. We did hear his boss, the original Chad tell him to stop though. I live in Texas and was planning a 1 day trip to PA to move my elderly 92 year old Grandfather down to live. I planned on flying up and taking care of everything in less than 24 hours, so planning was critical. A big part of the trip was getting rid of his belongings of his 1 bedroom apartment. When the time came and I flew up there....they were exactly on time and cleared out all the trash and furniture I had piled up in less than 20 minutes. The below review is a mystery to me because it's entirely contrary to our experience this past Saturday. We were working on cleaning out our house to put it on the market and had a garage full of stuff to throw away. On a lark, we called Erik and he came that afternoon. He asked us several questions about how much there was and could one person haul it, etc. He said he'd had plenty of experiences with people misstating how much the job was. He and my husband loaded the dump truck and off he went (after having to pin us down for an address -- we forgot to give him the street number!). $225 all said and done.
