Excellent fried white tomato pizza . Didn't wait long at all and will return. Bar environment

Situated on the corner of Main & Plane St in Avoca, this is your typical local bar...butwith great food. There is not a whole lot of parking, but the locals park pretty much anywhere they can fit in. Their pizza is probably the best fried pizza in Northern Luzerne County. There is better in lowere Luzerne County in the Wilkes Barre and Dallas areas, but for this far up...this is top notch. First... a tray of pizza is 14 cuts, but they do sell a half tray of 7 cuts. You must order onions for additional flavor. Their sauce is pretty good, although I did note a little more oregano in it this time, which I am not a fan of, but it was still really good. I always get 1 to 2 trays to take home with me when I am in town. The Buffalo hot wings are the absolute best! The celery was so fresh, and the blue cheese dressing was chunky, tangy, and fresh and was the perfect accompaniment to the spicy, but not too spicy, wings. Hubby is a wing FREAK, and he has to have these wings every time we visit the area as soon as we hit town! read more

Oof. Super disappointed tonight. Normally like to frequent Ernie G's for their pizza when we come to visit. Tonight we opened our pizza and the cheese wasn't even melted. It was still in slice form and hard. But the weird part is that it was on top of slightly melted cheese. It seemed like we were eating someone's made up leftovers. When we called to complain they offered to remake it or issue a credit in a very monotone voice. I just took the credit, because we all had lost our appetites and definitely didn't want to drive all the way back there. But I doubt we'll be back. read more

I went here for the first time today for pizza by recommendation from a friend of mine.... I wasn't impressed with the pizza at all. It was very heavy because it so loaded down with cheese and the crust had a peculiar toughness to it. Unfortunately I don't recommend this establishment at least for pizza. It is a bar with an impressive full menu. Maybe the other food items are better than the pizza... By the way... Our waitress was nice and also helpful.... This is very crispy "victory pig-like" pizza with fried crust. You have the option of with or without onions which I appreciate as a non-onion fan or better yet you can get half with and half without. The takeout window is entertaining in itself and pumps out pizza on weekend nights like a well oiled machine. If you are in the Avoca area I would definitely give Ernie G's a try, you can't miss it on the corner of Main St and although I don't eat them I have heard good reviews about the wings. I think the pizza was about $20 for "a tray" which consists of 14 rectangular cuts (typical for this area) of pizza. read more

I always love coming here every time I go visit family back in NE PA. I dream about this pizza - it's amazing. Pizza in NE PA is pretty serious, but they take pizza to another level. If you're not from the area - you've probably never tasted anything quite like this. The pizza dough is fried in oil, but is light and crispy, and flaky and delicious. The sauce is plentiful and slightly sweet and just perfect. The cheese blend is not the typical - I'm not 100% sure of what they use but I think it's some sort of mix - not the traditional mozzarella. It might contain cheddar? But anyway, it's perfectly melted and balanced with the right amount of sauce. The shape of the pizza is rectangle, but you won't identify this with Sicilian pizza that you're used to. The prices are good and the service is really friendly. Check this place out for the pizza - it's worth the drive, you will not be sorry. read more

I have passed Ernie Gs a hundred times On my way to work. I finally got to try the pizza at work one day. Being from NY I am very picky about my pizza. I don't know what style of pizza this is but I would say it's a combo of a deep dish and a thin crust. The pizza is good. It's not the best I have had. But in the area its on my top list. Everyone else I know who lives locally loves this pizza. I have asked them about the pizza here as well and they responded the pizza is consistent. I would def eat here again. I've gotten take out pizza from here a few times. So this review is based solely on my take out experience and the pizza. I ordered a few slices each time and it was done in a decent time. Always fresh. Their pizza is a victory pig style pizza, where the crust is actually fried. I believe they put a ladle of oil in the pan before the dough and that fries the dough during the pizza baking process. The sauce is very good and full of tomato flavor. Very crispy crust. A little greasy but sometimes I'm in the mood for that. It traditionally comes with onions as a topping. read more

We decided to give Ernie G's a try. We knew it was there but we have other local establishments we get takeout from. We ordered a tray of pizza and cheese fries for my granddaughter. 5 minutes after we placed our order they called back saying they didn't have cheese for the fries... Did we still want them? We said yes and I pulled out velveta shells and cheese and melted the packet for her. The wait time was average and the service at pickup was friendly. The parking is tight. The pizza was hot and looked amazing. To my disappointment they must bake the crust in oil as some places do, and there was so much oil in my mouth I had to switch from water to soda. It was just not for us. We'll stick to Bobby O's, Acaro & Genells, Revellos & Ramonos. I order takeout at least 3 times a week. I know my pizzas. Ernie G's is a one and done for us. read more

So NE PA has this version of pizza that is called Old Forge Style. It's similar to a Sicilian pie, but if you took the good taste away and substituted it for awful. Mozzarella cheese for American cheese. Red sauce with flavor, low grade sauce. At Ernie G's it's actually good. They fry the dough and use decent ingredients and it's good. It's a bar with food. A little dated. Not too big. Limited basic menu, but stick to the basics. The pies are called trays. 7 cut half tray is good for two people (3-4 slices each) at around $9 and change. They have your basic appetizers. Another big thing in the area is wing bites, basically boneless chicken wings. They are ok. I prefer Nina's, which are more crispy. These are a little more like nuggets. The quality is normal frozen restaurant supplier, nothing special. I think the main attraction is the pizza, being fried and not awful, like other Old Forge Pizza, which the locals have no idea is terrible. They have drink specials and local charm. read more

Named after the owner's late grandfather this place is a very nice, very clean, non smoking bar/restaurant with plenty of booths and pub tables to accommodate larger groups or families with young children. It is completely remodeled inside with plenty of seating at and around the bar as well. Pizza is their passion and it is amazing. It carries that classic deep-fried-greasy Victory Pig style. Ernie G's had some of the best wings I ever had. They were big and the hot sauce was not only spicy but it tastes awesome! The pizzas crust was awesome and the sauce was great! But I am usually a very picky eater so when I say I didn't like the cheese do not listen to me! The people I went with loved the pizza and almost everybody else that reviewed Ernie G's loved the pizza. I would totally go back there and get a bunch of wings to eat! Nice little local pub that probably fills up on weekend nights. Food and beer specials, a couple of dart boards. We were referred here by some employees of the township building down the road. Not a very extensive menu: Pizza, wings and a few other pub type foods. Took a little longer than expected to get our pizza, but it was really good. Although it was the same, basic rectangular pizza served all over town, they deep fry their crust so it's much crunchier and tastier than the other pizza we've tried so far. Not good. Wife and I went here recently for a "pizza and beer" night. We ended up getting a tray of their Sicilian pizza and the boneless wings along with a pitcher of beer. The service was a real turn off. First of all, it took quite a long time for a waitress to make her way over to our table. When she finally did, she was arrogant and hostile. We should have left right at that point but decided to stick it out. When the food finally came out, the boneless wings were cold and inedible. The pizza was so greasy (and being from the area, I enjoy fried Sicilian) it dripped all over the front of my shirt. Any flavor it might have had was overwhelmed by grease. I can't believe I have lived a short distance from this place and just tried the food yesterday. We got pizza, a steak and cheese, and an antipasto. The pizza was plain. They do a fried pizza similar to some of the other popular places but Ernie G's was much better. The sauce was sweet and the taste was very good. We got ours without onions. The antipasto was also very good. They put onions on it which we are not used to but it definitely was one of the better ones we had around here. The steak and cheese was good, not the best we ever had but definitely would get it again. The pizza is what has us hooked on this place now. Didn't try any wings, will go for those next time. if i could rate this place as 0/5 stars i would. i ordered a 14 cut plain pizza which runs you $19.72 after tax. i get the pizza home and at first it's great until i get to the slice with the hair in it. this hair doesn't match anyone in my house. it clearly came from the restaurant. i call to inform them and then they ask details about the hair which we tell them. they then tell us it doesn't match the one person in the kitchen right now and that they basically could care less. terrible customer service. don't waste your money on the over priced hair pizza. read more
