Welcome to Part 2 Foodaholics of the Saturday food adventure. If you have not watched Part 1 from KJ's Pickle Barrel, please check it out. Now Part 2 takes us to Pizza L'Oven in the evening to where I ordered a half tray of Sicilian pizza and a half order of their wings. The last time I had this was a takeout during the pandemic. The wings were nice and crisp but not overdone, I have to say they were really good. The sauce is on the thinner side were usually in most places are a thicker sauce. However, in this case tonight it worked out really well. My half tray comes with or without onions, I went with and added bacon. The crust was crisp, nicely done. The pizza itself was very delicious. The sauce with the cheese, bacon, and onions just was a great combination. Now they are a cash only place with an ATM on site. A big thumbs up and recommend. Full disclaimer, my wife grew up in this area and worked here as a teenager in the late 80's. I, however, never knew of this place or the wonders of "Old Forge" style pizza until much later in life. It is now a must stop every time we visit family. Although, I do like to switch up my "Old Forge" pizza joints we find ourselves coming here often. This is a family owned and operated establishment, and even though I visit about twice a year, I feel like I know the staff. Pizza L'Oven has a large menu but there should only be two reasons to visit --- pizza and wings. The pizza dough is fried in a cast iron skillet and then the cheese and sauce are baked on top in the oven. It's a square cut pizza with a breadlike crispy fried bottom and chewy center. The cheese varies from place to place but its typically a blend with lots of american. While not my go to -- they also make a delicious white pizza. The local tradition is to order your "cuts"--- "with" meaning I want onions (e.g. gimme 4 cuts / with). If you're really hungry you may order a "tray" not a pie. Pie is reserved for desert. A tray is 14 cuts usually offered at a reduced price. I typically order 3 or 4 cuts but always want more (oh gluttony). While I love their pizza, we typically visit here more than their competitors for their wings. The wings are medium to large in size, fresh - never frozen and fried crispy. Sauce options are mild, hot or hooter. The sauces all have good flavor and even though hooter is their hottest none are too spicy. I always order hot with a side of hooter for dipping. Hooter also tastes great with your crust! This place may put me in an early grave but atleast I'm enjoying the ride! read more

Pleasantly surprised. Their square "cuts" were excellent. Quality ingredients and baked perfectly. No grease whatsoever and pizza was seasoned exactly as it should be seasoned. Decor is 1970's tavern style but nobody seems to care and they shouldn't because the pizza is that good. Round is ok but the square is the star of the show. Best in the area. One of my favorite pizzas in the areas. The pizza is pan fried and therefore a bit greasy but that crust and flavor is unmatched!! If you enjoy chicken wings then I highly recommend the wings. Hit are hot but scorchers are just that! All wings are served with plenty of celery and blue cheese. Pizza L'Oven is alway busy on weekends so make sure you get there early. We enjoy eating outside on their covered patio but there's plenty of parking outside. The restaurant is ADA accessible and there's adequate off street parking. read more

I got there in the split second of 45 minutes because I just couldn't wait to try this pizza!!! Weve been customers for many many years but with our take out on super bowl sunday - the experience was really poor. The pizza was extremely oily, greasy, and we were going to sop it up with a napkin but thought it was not a great idea. The next day, my husband was going to have t=for lunch and he who never throws any food away did just that. It was worse the next day - super greasy - so bad that it was not only crispified but oily as well. Please make the pizza like it used to be. A coworker recommended this place to me since I'm from California and visiting for work. Of course, I got the fried Sicilian pizza, and that was definitely something I've never experienced before. Pizza L'oven has delicious fried pizza and in my opinion some of the best wings in the Wyoming Valley. Don't come here expecting to eat healthy! The pizza is baked with a full ladle of oil in the pan so the crust basically fries in the oven. The result is a golden, crunchy crust on every bite. I always order my wings hot and extra crispy. They come out perfect about 95% of the time and the other times they're still edible. They have added some specialty pizzas to their menu through the years including taco, broccoli and cheese, chicken wing and BLT. I've tried all of them and they're good, but the extra toppings make them even heavier; two slices and I'm stuffed. Tips from a local (me): Ask for a side of mayo with the BLT pizza or blue cheese with the chicken wing pizza and spread a little on the top, it's really good. If you're ordering the regular pizza you have the option of onion or no onion. Get it with onion, its not overpowering and the flavor they add takes the pizza to another level. OMG! The best pizza EVER!!! My wife's family is from this area and I have been sampling this pizza for decades. And it is ALWAYS fantastic. Here is the breakdown. Crust ... crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. Sauce ... lightly covered with sweet tomatoes. Toppings ... I selected the White Pizza with Fresh Tomato and Garlic and let me tell you, if you're looking for that home cookin' family atmosphere this is the place and pizza for you. The pizza was served in a 7 cut half tray and brought to my table hot and cheesy. The crust was baked very well, golden and crispy. It reminded me of garlic bread sticks. Yum! I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth and of course had to take a box home so I had leftovers for the next day- but they didn't last that long. As I am not typically a fan my pizza being served in cuts, I have to say this one was a goodie. Id definitely order this tray again with some ice cold beer to wash it down! As I am ALWAYS a fan on Banana Peppers on my Pizza and just as a snack, I was excited to see these as an appetizer on their menu. I have never seen fried banana peppers anywhere and gave them a shot. Of course I enjoyed them. They need to be eaten hot and fresh because like all Fried Foods these babies need to be eaten hot and fresh so dig in as soon as they bring them to your table! It was just ok. The decor is cute, but i could have wrote my name in the dust on my napkin holder. The chairs were also dusty underneath and on the legs. I enjoyed my fish, but my boyfriend was upset that his chicken was boned. He was assuming the honey dipped chicken was boneless and the menu never specified that it wasn't. His chicken tasted good to me, but he has always hated boned chicken. The fries were 100 percent perfect!!! So crispy and huge. I really enjoyed them. I think first off, if you are not from northeast PA, you need to be a little open minded as to what constitutes pizza. One thing that this area offers is great variety of pizza tastes and presentations. Pizza L'Oven offers a fried tray style pizza that can be ordered by the tray (14 rectangular slices), 1/2 tray, or by the slice. We ordered a full tray (1/2 plain, 1/2 with onions). Overall the pizza is crisp with good cheese to sauce ratio. I personally prefer with onions, as the onions add a nice sweetness to the pizza. The one downfall is that this pizza is very greasy/oily as compared to similar pizzas in the area. Overall good service, good pizza. read more
