We came here during one of our excursions on our Alaskan cruise and it was a pretty cool bar. Our tour guide took us here and explained it was one of the oldest bars here. He told us stories on how he would come here when he was younger and when he was old enough to drink this was the first place he came. The bartenders were all super nice and during this tour we all got to try the famous Duck Fart shots. This was my first time having one but it sure wasn't my last. We got to spend some more time here so I ordered another recommended drink that had Pop Rocks. It was so good just make sure to mix it good so you get a little pop rock with each sip. After our tour we ended up coming back here to get more drinks. Since we weren't with the tour we were interested to see if the bartenders were still just as nice and happily to say that they were. The drinks were reasonably priced too. Of all the bars that we went to in this small town this was our favorite. The vibe and the atmosphere were fantastic. They really made you feel like this was your local bar. Come down and visit this bar if you are in town. read more

Pete is the bartender that seems to work up until about 10pm, and he is the type of classic bartender you almost never see anymore: one that is an excellent conversationalist and your temporary best friend. The type of stuff you see in "Cheers" but that you don't think exists in the real world. We talked about growing up in Florida, and about hiking. We talked about this youtuber that makes amazing hiking videos in Sitka: Starling Birch (and, because Sitka is magic, I would meet this dude the very next day on a hiking trail!) And in-between it all, he poured me some beers. The taps weren't great, but they were mostly from the state of Alaska. I just wish there were fewer from Alaskan Brewing which is one of the more mediocre breweries in Alaska. I would LOVE to see some beers on tap from the local Sitka Brewery, they are amazing! This is the type of dive bar that is nearly extinct in America, definitely stop by if you're in Sitka! read more

This is the OG bar in Sitka! Open daily from 8am-2am 365 days a year! This place gives that Cheers feel where "everybody knows your name" mixed with your dads man cave in the basement from 1986. Great drinks, fun times!!! read more

Ernie 's is your classic, old time, bar/saloon. Just think 50's, 60s and 70s. So while it might not be classy enough for many people, those who love the old days of dive bars and hangouts will probably enjoy it. They don't measure "the pours" that you now get just about everywhere ! Traditional place with Sitkans who "own" (but share) a permanent seat at the bar, then those looking for a vinyl booth and dart board or a game of pool. Young and very old - all hang out there. It's where people go after the restaurant or an event is done for the night. Some food and snacks available! P.S. It does still smell a little bit like the cigarette days. Hanging out on a walks-bout, I came here to watch Monday Night Football. The place is my kind of place. Locals, smells, divey. I enjoyed myself. I realized everything in Sitka is uber expensive but I wasn't expecting the prices at this bar. The beers were about $8-$9 each for draft and I had 2 shots of Basil Hayden whiskey. I need to really remember to ask for pricing at every place I go to. The 1.5 oz of whiskey (not even 2 oz) was $19. Each. That's pretty extreme. I was expecting maybe $12. As far as food, there are 2 food trucks parked in the back. I don't know how people come here in a daily and drink as locals and regulars, but more power to them. If this was my reg spot my nightly bill would easily be $100. But cool place none the less. read more

If you want to be ignored to the point of it being humorous, this is your place. The town runs on tourist dollars and the two staff members haven't gotten the memo. Two respectful tourists drop in and they go everything in their power to ignore and avoid. We'd been standing at the relatively quiet bar for nearly 10 minutes when they stood in front of us chatting with each other and refusing to engage with us standing there slack-jawed. Something has obviously changed since the last reviews. We are always looking for a good dive bar. The atmosphere was cool, but the bartender definitely saved the alcohol for the local's drinks. I haven't had the misfortune of being served such a watered down drink in a while. Bayview and Mean Queen have much better drinks as well as food. Ernie's has no food and is cash only. read more

I work on a fishing boat. We pulled into town and captain gave us some free time. He said be back to the boat by 10am tomorrow morning. We had some pizza and then ducked into Ernie's. It was everything a young man dreams of. We shot pool, sang karaoke, and mingled with the locals. I made it back to the boat in the wee hours. What a night! I made out with the fat girl in sandals, almost got in a fight with five guys for bumping into one of them, became friends with them, drank a bunch of tequila, and left my debit card. I don't usually drink but when I do......it's gotta be a place like Ernie's. I highly recommend. Good times. read more

The Saloon brings back memories of the old days, the way Bars, and Saloons, used to be. It was very refreshing to see the way Ernie's Saloon was decorated and laid out. Pete, the daytime Bartender was so friendly and nice as we asked him about the history of Ernie's Old Time Saloon. Owner Stan Filler has owned the Saloon for 50 years.
