My husband chose this place, and it turned out to be a cute, quirky little spot. We really wanted to try the fish in Sitka, so we thought this would be the perfect place. The views were absolutely beautiful, and the restaurant is located up a flight of stairs. We were seated quickly and didn't have to wait too long for service. They had quite a selection of beers and brews, and I loved the vintage style bar. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer, and unfortunately, we felt the portion size was too much. I think the price could be lowered in exchange for a smaller serving because we felt bad wasting so much food. My fish arrived warm and was served with hand-cut fries. The batter was a little different from anything we've tried before. It was good, but I think there may have been a bit too much pepper added. It wasn't bad, just a different flavor profile, so keep that in mind. Overall, if you're looking for a place with beautiful views, we would recommend it. I ultimately decided on a 4 star rating rather than a 3 star rating because the scenery really added to our day in Sitka. read more

Stopped by here on our cruise ship visit to Sitka. We wanted some pub food so based on yelp tried this place. Place was packed but got a seat fairly quickly. Both ordered two beers that came in an icy chilled glass. Quite refreshing. I ordered the Rachel and my wife the soup and salad. My sandwich was excellent and tasty. The fries were also very crisp. My wife liked her salad and thought the chowder had a few too many big potatoes. The place had a nice view of the harbor. read more

We came to Bayview Pub based on a recommendation from one of Royal Caribbeans staff. We surely were not disappointed either. My husband and I ordered the fish and chips to share and as you can see in the picture it was plenty for the two of us. The fish was halibut which is local to the area. You could tell it was fresh, well seasoned, and prepared nicely. The restaurant, located upstairs in a building not too far from the port bus stop, was busy though it looked like mostly tourists. It was a rainy day so was looking for a place to sit down for lunch. You have to go upstairs to enter the pub. It is a popular place so very busy when we got there. We put our name in for a table and was seated quickly at the bar. We were greeted and given the menu. They have a good selection of beers as well as cocktails. Just was in the Pub sitting at the bar and ordered a drink and take out. Was ignored for 20 minutes as I sat at the bar. Tried to order another drink and was ignored. Watched the bartender walk from behind the bar to ask people if they wanted something else to drink as me and my friend were ignored because he did not know us. Have been there 4 times in the last 8 days and was treated much better. Service was so bad, did not leave a tip. He then combined me and friends check without even asking if we wanted it combined. It was busy for sure. Dropping off 3000 cruise ship passengers in a town of 8500 will make things a bit hectic. We were seated quickly and had our order taken pretty fast. Good local Alaska beer selection. Plenty of food choices. I ordered the Halibut fish and chips and my wife the pub burger with no sauce. Food arrived but no utensils. Had to go grab them from the front. Pub burger had sauce and had to take it to bar to get it replaced. It was replaced quickly and was tasty. My fish and chips had far too much breading. I actually cracked the breading and ate the fish like out of a shell. That was tasty but the breading not so much. So service was lacking and food was okay. The bill for a burger fish and chips one beer and one cider was $100. I lived in Hawaii for many years and understand island pricing but wow. So be aware. My friends and I were in Sitka for a fishing adventure and we had to look for dinner the first night of our trip. We ended up at the Bayview Pub. As we have been coming here for years we cannot help but notice how crowded and touristy Sitka has become. The cruise ships now stop by Sitka regularly and the town is inundated with passengers for these ships. So, as I look at the menu I see prices on the have really gone up and the Bayview Pub is overpriced in my opinion. The food here is pretty decent though. They make a great burger that is either bison or elk, served with fries for $38. My halibut fish and chips were 3 small pieces for $38. The server mentioned how good their chowder was so I substituted my fries for a cup. It was OK. Personally, I would not return because the food is just not worth the prices. read more

This is a busy place on a Saturday evening. I know why. The food is good, plentiful and served quickly. Our wait person, Alicia, was eager to answer our questions about the best food. The chowder was delicious and I am almost glad they were out of my first choice, elk tenderloin stew. Husband had the elk burger and sang its praises. The crowning touch was the blueberry cobbler cheesecake which was rich enough to share. And the bill didn't break the bank. Always good ambience with a great view. The food is scrumptious with many options on the menu. Everything made fresh with what ingredients available in Sitka. Attentive staff although it does get busy, they still do their best to take care of you. Ate herd two times during our stay in Sitka fishing. Both times the service was excellent and we were greeted and set timely. The first trip we had the excellent seafood chowder and the hot bacon jam burger and Cesar salad. The burger was worth the elevated price and the Cesar was fresh and crisp. The second trip I again had the chowder and the smoked then fried wings which were as good as any I've had anywhere. My only note is on the days a cruise ship is in port the lines can be long but worth the patient wait. We were waiting at the door when they opened, and the place packed up pretty quickly, so that tells you something! One of us had what he declared was the BEST salmon sandwich he'd ever eaten. Another had a French dip that he really enjoyed, with tender and generous slices of beef. For me, the halibut fish & chips were heavenly: Crunchy light batter, flaky light fish, vinegar for my chips, a pint, and I was happily set! The portions weren't small, either. We practically needed a wheelbarrow to haul us out! This place is a gem! We are in Sitka for a week and we ate here twice out of that time! My niece had her first Alaskan salmon here and I tried the Pub burger and it was so delicious! I got it with blue cheese and tots, which were cooked perfectly! The low carb bowl looked amazing and my niece loved it so much, she ordered it the next time we went and got it with Halibut. Took my family here when they came up to visit for a weekend. Thought it was going to be a pretty good experience. But no. Server seemed like she really didn't want to be there and not attentive at all. We ordered $14 chips and salsa and it took 30 MINUTES to just get that. Not worth $14. Salsa was basically canned tomato. Food took an hour. The food was not good. Nothing had seasoning, fries were over fried. If it was good, the wait would've been somewhat worth it. Not at all. Waitress told us that they were out of pita bread which was part of my sisters meal and why she ordered it... as the food was coming out, (45 min later) we asked for a sourdough toast substitute. Never got it. How hard is it to make toast. Crazy. Ambiance was nice. It looks nice. That's probably the only good thing I can say... other than the chowder was alright. But not worth a 45 minute wait. Don't go here in you have somewhere to be in 2 hours. We got there at 5pm and left at 6:50 mainly because we hardly ate our meals. Did I mention it's super expensive? Friendly servers and a nice view of the boat harbor. They have a nice selection of beer on tap. The menu is Alaskan pub themed; fish and chips, sandwiches, burgers (using wild meats) etc. I had an elk burger, it came slightly over cooked and wasn't enough to bring me back during my trip. They have TVs inside if you want to catch a sports game. I'd recommend this place for people visiting on boat tours to get a quick meal and beer. read more

Fish and chips were good. Never had Rockfish and had it for the first time here since it was freshly caught. Clam chowder was a little watery and had a little too much dill which was overpowering the rest of the chowder dish but it was still decent. The place was busy when we got here, so it's a pretty busy pub in the area. They have good amount of local Alaskan beers on tab for you to choose from which I very much appreciated. read more

I read a few of the other reviews. Not sure what the deal was with service a week ago, but our visit was great. Our server was prompt and placed our orders right away. Food came out later than I would have thought it should for 5 orders of halibut and chips, but oh well. The halibut was great. Hot, crispy and the way I'd expect it to be. Delicious. They know how to make French fries, crispy not almost done. The seafood chowder was really good too. Two rounds of margaritas. Ignore the prices on Yelp, they are way off, unless what we paid were "cruise day" prices. $38 for halibut...it's was still awesome. Being a cruise day, it was really busy and loud.
