I decided to try G's because of its proximity to my job and because it's an Aveda concept salon. I called and made an appointment for the same day. Because they gave me this spot so easily, I assumed they were 'squeezing me in' and I'd have to wait awhile. When I arrived at the salon, I was checked in by a friendly receptionist who asked me to have a seat in the waiting area at the rear of the salon. I was only waiting for maybe 10 minutes or so when I was greeted by my stylist. My stylist, named Summer, seemed genuinely thrilled to be doing my hair. She gushed about how pretty my hair was, and how she has natural hair too. I knew then that this was going to be a wonderful experience. Summer asked me what services I wanted and how I wanted my hair styled. We chatted a good bit while she styled my hair, because she's so bright and bubbly. She gave me advice and politely let me know I'd need a trim soon (no bullying zone). She followed all my wishes to a 'T' (no hot combs on my head, no way, no how). And my hair turned out silky straight and absolutely gorgeous! She even offered to pin curl my hair before I left the salon to maintain my style. Unfortunately, you have to bring your own pins if you want this perk. Oh yeah, I had to subtract a star because I feel $95 (plus tip! But Summer earned that tip!) is a bit steep for a press n' curl. I don't feel any press n' curl is worth that much, however, I will definitely return to G's to be styled by Summer. I may even let her trim my hair next time. I'd also recommend her to any of my natural girls who like to rock it straight from time to time.

They never trimmed more than I asked and my hair always looked great after a blow out. $65 for a blow out is just my speed. My stylists always occupied the last chair in the salon which I think may have something to do with the pricing. Not sure. I always hated the raggedy waiting area couches and wondered why they never made an attempt to make that look better. Reception leaves a lot to be desired. One time I was charged twice for a visit. The charge was done 2 weeks after my initial service so that was very suspect. But when I brought it to their attention they took care of it and I just vowed to use cash going forward. I'm due for a trim now and I called to make an appointment. The man who answered said that Joel didn't work there anymore. I asked if there was someone who has taken his place. He said no and that was it. No attempt to try to make an appointment for me or place me with another stylist.

I got Aldira (sp?) and she started with my hair treatment first, which was just ok. The shampoo left a lot to be desired. The products used didn't work well with my scalp either (made it extra dry). While I sat under the heat lamp for the treatment to soak in she started cutting another customer's hair. It was Labor Day weekend and busy so I let it slide. Then in the middle of the other woman's haircut she switched to me. I assume she was friends with the other woman for the other lady to be ok with it (they were also chatting in another language). I asked for an A-line lob haircut and had a picture reference. I started off with very long hair, past my chest- you can see my other reviews to see the length. After I finished I left a nice tip (23% of their normal haircut prices for long hair), since from what I could see the haircut was decent. My haircut did feel rushed though. When I got home and had my husband take a picture of the back of my head I saw the back was very uneven and choppy. The front had no gradual taper like an A-line haircut should have (see photos of first haircut). I considered evening it out myself but my friends all suggested I go back and have them fix it. So I scheduled another time to get it fixed a few days later. When I went back Aldira was apologetic and said she would fix it. She seemed like she knew she messed up. I showed her pictures of my hair with markups and explained how she just needs to even it out a bit to fix it. Once she started cutting, it felt like she was chopping off a lot more than necessary and it seemed like I was getting a whole new haircut. When I was done I was questioning the cut but everyone in the salon said it looked good and better than before. She also didn't blow dry my hair so I couldn't tell how bad it really was since it was still damp and I couldn't see the back too well. Once I got home and my hair dried a bit I took pics and was horrified. It looked like a backwards mullet (top layer was much shorter than bottom layers) and like a child cut it by using blunt scissors on a pony tail. I considered just tying it up and letting it grow out so I can cut it again later. But I was so disturbed and distracted throughout the day that I had to go all the way to Brooklyn to pay someone else and get my hair fixed. THIS WAS MY THIRD HAIRCUT IN 1 WEEK AND SECOND HAIRCUT IN 1 DAY. I wasn't sure I should write this review because Aldira was friendly and apologetic. The salon didn't charge me the second time to get it "fixed" but this simply is not acceptable. Not to mention I will never get those 3+ hours of my life back between the time of the haircuts, the travel back and forth to the salon and travel to Brooklyn. The Groupon seemed like a great deal, but my time and hair was worth much more. Please see my pictures to judge for yourself. I have not spoken to the salon since the last incident as I am not the type to make a big scene in public and I can't think of anything they can do to make it remotely right. I did not ask for a refund or the tip back either, though I really should!

The stylist was very polite and made me feel very comfortable. I have very long hair yet it only took her about 45 minutes to do the cut and the conditioning treatment took about 1 hour. All in all very nice place to get your hair done.

I leave with a perfect blowout with just the right amount of volume and curl at the bottom. It looks natural and lasts 5-7 days. My husband gets his hair cut with Fuat who's also great and super friendly too. We recently moved back to the Brighton Beach neighborhood and I tried out several salons in the area. These guys are by far the best! They are very accommodating even without an appointment and their prices are straightforward and reasonable. All the stylists here know what they're doing and the place is clean and modern.

Emma worked meticulously and asked me about my haircut experiences and typical hairstyles. She pointed out to my head shape and how to have my haircut moving forward.
