I've been coming here for hairdos and haircuts since I was in college...and that goes all the way back to 2005. .. the lady handling the front desk just informed me that I currently am in possession of Bumble and bumble artifact lol for being such a ancient hair model of theirs lol I was here when they used to have this little black book, that's accordion style and they were give us these silver stickers to fill the book for gifts and products. I personally loved getting hair cuts and blow drys here the most. The updos took forever to undo...since I'm not much of a girlie girl so it was such a pain for me lol but def a good go to if you're going to a wedding and etc My personal fav was their round hair blow drys for curls that my straight hair was just firmly against lol regardless what was done to it...1 hour..back to flat..sadly... Current cuts offered have been the ones with the most freedom for the stylist so far and I personally love the razor cuts more due to the texture it leaves. I started off with getting free long layer razor haircuts with Bumble Model Project many years ago. More recently (within the last 2 years), I have been back countless times for their various styling classes, such as Round Brush Blow Dry, Chignon, Braids, Backstage (Fashion Week inspired hair styles). Each time I have felt that I was in capable hands thanks to the competent teachers and talented hairdressers. It is always super easy to check in and I am always happy with the results. One of my favorite classes to model for is the Round Brush Blow Dry, where the front part of my hair is curled and set with rollers. The end result is gorgeous, thick, blown out hair with plenty of body and quite a bit of curl. My other favorite is Braids, because each time it's a fashionable and unique style featuring braids. The first time the hair stylist created a fishtail braid down my back, along with a braid on my side. Another time, the hair stylist created flat twists on the side, making a crown shape and French braid with loose braid with half of my hair flowing underneath. It was a really cool look, though the process hurt a bit. After each class, I was able to select a travel size Bumble product of my choice and having earned Hair Miles, I was able to pick out 2 full size Bumble products so far. I love the the Hairdressers Invisible Oil, Thickening Hairspray, Thick (H)air Styler, Surf Spray, Pret a Powder & Holding Spray! This is a really awesome program and I love coming in to get free haircuts, styling and products. One class I haven't done yet are the color ones. I would love to be a model for that soon! The only downside is that it can be a bit time consuming but I think it's worth it. I always walk out happy with my hair looking amazing! read more

I LOVE the Bumble & Bumble Model Project! I've been coming here since I first moved to the city (about 8 years ago) and was struggling to pay rent! Now, I just keep coming back because I know I'm going to love what I get and you can't beat a free, gorgeous haircut! My only wish is that they would do more color classes. I've participated in one and my hair was stunning afterwards. I'm also quite scared to go to a salon or stylist that I don't know and pay for the style when I might end up disappointed. At least with Bumble & Bumble Model Project, they always make sure the model leaves satisfied with their hair. You don't often get that when you go somewhere as a paying customer! It may be difficult for the initial assessment, but don't let it discourage you. The stylists, teachers and team here are top notch and it will always be a great experience if you let it. read more

It's easy to get in. You go for the model call. They assess your hair. It takes about 2 hours to do so. Then you get approved and you make your appointment.............. for 4 months later. You confirm. You wait. Finally! The day comes. You are to get a razor cut. Huh? Yes, using only a razor to cut your hair... so healthy. But whatevs. It's free. You get a random trained stylist. It takes about 1.5 hours for the whole thing to be done. Mine came out okay. It was literally just a hair cut -- my hair was shorter than 1.5 hours before. No, they don't wash your hair or give you a massage or give you a blow-out (unless you are signed up for the blow-out class). BUT YES, IT'S FREE. I think I'll go back to Chinatown and pay $40. read more

So happy to have been picked for their model program. I went for the first time today and got the round brush blow dry. I loved it! My stylist was very friendly and really took her time with my hair. I felt bad for her as my hair is quite long and we were partially the last ones to finish. She did a great job and I came out of there with great shiny bouncy hair. I came here on a Monday morning at about 11:30am for a hair cut appointment. I had a great experience with my hair student. She did an awesome job. I told her what I wanted and showed her some inspiration pics, for the direction I was trying to go for. I'm growing out my hair from a short layers pixie cut. It was already quite grown out, about 4 months, and I wanted to change the shape to be suitable for growing out into a bob length. I always have a good experience here. The students are basically all working professionals, taking courses to hone their skills. They're quite strict with their cancellation policy, so if you can't guarantee you can be there, don't sign up. You can cancel anytime up to 1 week before the appointment. Came here on a whim - spontaneously decided to get a haircut after 8 years of not cutting my hair. Signed up online and got email response back. Was a standby model for the 2:15pm Long Layers class. My hair student was from Minnesota! I lost 2 feet of hair. Looks good in the end! Management/customer service could be a bit better; the check in lady was a bit rude, and me and the other standby hair models were wondering what was going on. This is the only place I get my haircuts. Since 2008, I'm fo' serious. Why, you ask? Because I've paid for haircuts that were no where near as awesome as the ones I get here. And on top of that, you don't pay a penny! You don't tip, you just get your hair done, feel beautiful, and walk out. So why is it free? Well, it's a learning environment. These aren't your run of the mill students, they are seasoned stylists. They are professionals who already work in salons, who are already licensed, and already get paid to do what they love; they are just trying to learn a new technique. Now keep in mind, since 2008, the word has spread and this place is really popular, so it can be hard to book a haircut. But you have to qualify first, honestly it's no sweat. Basically, if you want to be part of the cool club, you call and ask to be evaluated. Then you show up, they touch your hair for a few minutes, and then... You are a model! Now you can put that on your resume - hair model. BOOM!! Ok so now you are a model and can book a haircut. You'll have to book months in advance, but hey, it'll be worth it. Just be patient, or get a trim in between if you really need it. You have to be willing to lose about 3 inches at least. So keep that in mind. And they have different cutting styles (classes) to choose from, which is selected when your hair is assessed. But you do have an opportunity to switch to a different class in the future, so don't worry, you aren't locked in. Oh and the haircuts are only offered during the week, they have a specific schedule, and they last about 2 to 2.5 hours. Besides haircuts, they also have styling sessions, in which they practice a certain style (updo, fashion week, etc). That means you don't get a hair cut, but they just give you a new style. You get points for that, discounts on the products they sell in the store. Ehhh I'm not a fan of the styles too much. And the reward doesn't seem all that to me. Anyway, everyone likes free stuff. Marilyn A. Well I have to say that Bumble and Bumble has literally changed my life. I have been a client there for ~5 years and the experience has been amazing. Can you imagine, getting your hair styled on a regular basis, get products (free when you accumulate enough points), or at a discount on a product at each styling session. When my hair looks good, I feel good, and the flat and round brush stylings along with great products have changed the texture of my hair, which used to be on the dry side with an outer layer of frizz on humid days. I feel beautiful when I leave there with my smooth hair styles, and now I have a better chance of replicating these styles, by using the Bumble products. I also get long layer razor cuts 2-3 times a year, and that saves me a bundle! I addition, the staff at the desk is welcoming and helpful in selecting products. Although the model school is a teaching setting for stylists who want to learn from the experts, you do not have to worry, as the professionals are there to fix any hair problems. I am a doctor with a busy schedule, but I manage to carve out the time 1-2 times a month to get my hair done. I leave feeling like I have had a therapy session, without the fee. Licensed stylists come to B&BU to learn how to perform one of several haircuts. over the course of several days, they have very specific lessons on the hair cut. On "Finals" day, you, the victim- i mean model, come in and allow them to create the look they spent days learning to cut. For every 2 or 4 stylists is an instructor who is watching every move. The models are pampered with BB products. My stylist was awesome. She was from connecticut and was fun to chat with. If she was unsure about a particular cut, she stopped and asked her instructor for guidance. In the end, i was very pleased with her work. Models are given points towards free products or even product discounts. A typical hair cut will take about 4 hours. But can you imagine your hair being played with for 4 hours? 3.5 stars, but bumped up because FREEEEEE. You join their e-mail list, attend a model call (ATTEND. Or else you get no appointments. They will book you for a VERY long time later, so make sure it is a day you can do as their no-show policy is extremely strict) and based on your hairstyle/length, they mark you down for whatever criteria/class you fit. I only fit in Current Class, but I get decent haircuts without any cost! It is a hassle to schedule an appointment, make sure to attend it, so it may not be worth it for everyone. But my favorite part is that I'm actually unsure of what I want in a hairstyle and different specialists trying out different things on me lets me figure out. For people who have certain criteria of how to cut their hair or people who don't have midday/flexible schedules, I wouldn't suggest this program. read more

I've had the razor bob, graduated bob, and a styling session (round brush) throughout the years I've been with Bumble and Bumble. The good: it's a free hair cut or a styling session. The stylists are watched closely so that your hair isn't botched, and I've always had really great experiences. The bad: they use a lot of product (I think it's partially cause they have to and they're also selling Bumble and Bumble items). As someone who doesn't usually any product on my hair, it feels weird having a lot of hair spray on the top of your head. Another con is that you have to keep going to the model call if you want another specific cut. I got approved for the Razor/Graduated bob, but recently I wanted long layors, and I had to go in for another model call. Understandably, they can't have someone with really short hair going in for a long layers cut. The long layers cut gets booked early if you want it make sure to call months in advance. The next available ones are in January and they find out the dates in October. They usually have openings for graduated/razor if you call a couple of weeks in advance. If they have any opening spots and they are missing people, they will email everyone on their list serve to possibly come and you might get a free product out of it. read more

I've been a hair model for Frederic Fekkai, Aveda, and private salons for years. This was my first time at B&B. I was signed up for the "long layers razor cut with bangs". I walked in with waist length, virgin Asian hair and left in tears with a hack job, drenched in product. The stylist did not take a before picture. The model representative and instructor, Coco, told me that they'd be taking 2"-3", adding some layers, and long bangs. The stylist wet my hair with B&B's tonic- no shampoo treatment for models apparently, and sectioned off my hair using a clip-less technique which I found painful. 5 minutes into the cut, Coco appeared and told my stylist to take off another inch of length, never to be seen again. As the service came to its conclusion, the stylist began piling on the product. I was in tears in the chair. Not only had she taken 6", but there were no layers and I was left with a mop of soggy, shaggy, shoulder length hair. When I asked Coco what could be done to fix this, she said "it's an educational program, you KNEW that coming in" as if it were my fault that her gross negligence resulted in this atrocity. I contacted B&B to see if I could receive a complimentary or discounted service to fix what had been done. They declined. They sent me a few complimentary products. read more

I can't believe I got such an awesome haircut for free! I signed up via the model projects website and got an email asking for pictures of my hair. I was invited for the razor bob class about 1 week from then, much faster than I expected based on reviews. I came late to my appointment because I thought it was an hour earlier. At first the receptionist was going to reschedule me, but it turns out that one of the Bumble and bumble stylists, Julia (I think), had some downtime, and she offered to give me a razor bob for free (!!!!). The idea of getting anything free is great, but a free haircut from bumble and bumble, just makes free that much better. With that said, the process of going to the actual model calls can be a little out of the way, but once you're in, you're in. The model call does move fast and while the line was extremely long, I was out of there in under 30 minutes. I came back two weeks later for my razor bob and have mixed feelings about it. My hairstylist was awesome, super nice and definitely had the same vision I did. You do lose a lot of length and while they are good at giving you a look you want, they don't really compromise much with how much has to come off. She styled my hair and I loved it, but went home to shower cause it made my hair so sticky. When I got out of the shower, I hated my hair. One piece was too long, my bangs were falling all over the place and there is one random bunch of hair that is super short in the middle of my head that I pretty much have to plaster down. Three days later, I've found a way to wear my hair that hides the too short to do anything hairs and in a way that actually looks nice. I think as my hair grows out, it'll be much nicer, but for a free haircut, I really can't complain. I hated my hair, but i'm slowly loving it and overall, I think this is a great program. I went in for another blowdry workshop called, "Advanced Styling". It's similar to the other two blowdry workshops, but this one incorporates both the flat and round brush technique. To put it simply, you can ask for any style you want as long as it can be achieved by the blowdryer. This is the earliest blowdry workshop. You have to be there by 8:30am for the 8:45am class. It's so early that they actually provide light breakfast for the hair models. I asked my stylist to give me a slept-in messy wavy look, and he did a fabulous job on me. I actually look better than the hair mode on the reference picture. Out of all the blowdry workshops, I would say this is my favorite class because you really get to see the full potential of the stylist you're working with. I realize that others have reviewed their experiences as models for the Bb. U Model Project before me, but they've posted their reviews among those for the regular Bb. salon, and I don't understand why. I'm of the firm opinion--and call me crazy here--that the experience of getting your hair cut for free by stylists learning new techniques will be quite different from that of paying $200 for a cut by well-trained professionals and that hence, the reviews should be separate. Now, seeing as I've never had a $200 haircut, this is admittedly somewhat speculative, and I can't ACTUALLY tell you in what ways a $200 haircut is similar to and different from the free haircut at the BbUMP (hey, "the bump"!). But I can tell you what the free haircut is like, so here it is: First you have to qualify. To do so, show up at the weekly model call, where you and approximately 80 other girls will line up for the chance to be inspected like dogs at the Westminster in hopes that your hair is deemed appropriate for the classes. It's absolutely agonizing. You're sitting there as the Bb people stroll around, checking everyone out, once in a while stopping to touch someone's hair and sign them up. Your inner dialogue will be something like this: pick me pick me pick me pick me pick me pick me pick me pick me pick me pick me pick me no, don't go over there! me! why is she getting picked? my hair is nicer than hers. what if they don't come talk to me? how long do i sit here? oh here comes someone! oh no, he's talking to the person next to me. well, maybe he'll come talk to me after he's done with her. ok, she's done. me next? making eye contact, yes...hello...yes? no! COME OVER HERE AND LOOK AT MY HAIR, ASSHOLE!! At any rate, you only have to go through that once, because once you're in, you're in. FOR LIFE. I've been going for haircuts and coloring about every 3 months now for the last year and a half, and I'll never have to pay for it as long as I live in the city. The people using your locks aren't students, but trained stylists from all over the country (and sometimes THE WORLD) who've come to learn the special Bb techniques. They're usually very friendly and open to your suggestions, restrictions, fears etc, and almost always do a spectacular job. Once I came out kind of looking like David Bowie circa 1975, but whatever. The teachers will actually fix your hair if you don't like it, so you're basically guaranteed to leave happy with how you look. And who doesn't love that, especially when it's free? read more

I was in the model project for about 6 years, maybe longer. I used to get the long layer scissors cut, then the razor bob. I also got the foil highlights once. I got a few really great haircuts here, for free, and you can't do better than that. I enjoyed meeting stylists, who come from all over the country to take the course. But I've had more bad haircuts than good ones here, and those have become more frequent in later years. I had a stylist last year who rushed through the cut in about 20 minutes because he had a plane to catch. I had another who, right after I told her, "I'm flexible except, please, no short bangs," immediately picked up the razor and cut my bangs super short. When you get a bad cut, or when the stylist completely disregards what you ask for, there's nothing you can do. It would be less annoying if it weren't so inconvenient. You have to wait months to get your hair cut, and it's always at least 2 hours in the middle of the day (they used to have some evenings, but I don't think they do that any more.) That's OK if you can do it and they actually cut your hair. But twice I've been sent away on the day of my appointment - once because they said my hair wasn't long enough (although it had been 4 months since my last cut, the same cut, at the same place, which they scheduled), and more recently because they said it was too curly for a cut that I had already had 3 times (and loved). When that happens, it will be months before they can get you in again. The one color treatment I had here was excellent. It's just hard to find that big block of time in the middle of the day. Someone said, about negative reviews, "stop whining" - this isn't about whining. It's about letting people know the quality of a service. Model Project can be great. It can stink. I used to love it. Now I don't think I'll go back. There's something about being peremptorily sent away from a long, mid-day appointment that you've scheduled for months, for a cut that you were approved for and have had repeatedly, from a place where you've been getting your hair cut for many years, that just feels terribly rude and cold. A great experience as you get to have your hair done for free! BUT if you have color treated or delicate hair- it can be really rough on your locks. That being said- these appointments usually really mess with your hair. I've only attended one session and it was a double french twist one. The blow outs and hair cuts might be more gentle on the hair but I'm not sure. Also you do get a perk or two for having attended a session. But in my opinion the perks could be better. After 6 years at the BBu. Model project, I have to say that there has been a huge decline in the quality of the hairdressers as well as the service and cuts. I was a demo model for 5 of the 6 years, which was awesome for my long blonde hair, which needs TLC pretty consistently. Bb was always great for that. However, a few weeks ago, I participated in an in-house training program that yielded disaster. After asking for and signing up for ling layers scissor, and stating that I wanted to grow my hair out (I had a bob last year), the stylist took a razor and chopped my hair 6" shorter and then gave me graduated layers that border on mullet. The kicker was that I said specifically, no bangs (I have cowlicks), he did straight-across wispy bangs that now stand out in all directions. I know the model project entails a certain amount of risk, but after 6 years, I expected some consistency in the salon's ability to customize their cuts. A week later I signed up for color, only to show up at 11 am for an 11:15 call time on a rainy day, took the day off, and then was accused of being late, and sent away bc the class was overbooked. I will not be back - the cuts at Jeffrey Stein are just as good. read more

I am just utterly amazed at these reviews! First of all, the name says it all. It is a Model PROJECT. You get Free Haircuts because you become a model for the Bumble & Bumble cutting/styling/colour class! So of course, it's not about you FIRST. (If you want it to be all about you, then go pay for the service!) That being said, as a model, I have gotten *amazing* treatment. There are different haircuts to choose from. I initially got approved for long hair scissor, but soon also got approved for razor. Then recently, my bf thought a bob would look good on me so i asked the instructor to approve me for the bob AND current cuts. They have an EXTREMELY organized system here. It is VERY fair. You book a haircut roughly 3 months in advance. Then you respond promptly to their email notice 2 weeks prior, receive a reminder 24 hrs before & how up 15 minutes prior to the appointment. Simple. The professional world is very organized. The modeling/acting/fashion/arts any other business is very punctual. This is the SAME! You are a head for their class & skills. Once you get a haircut, you can also get colour, so I got my first foil highlights ever. I get stopped in the streets in NY as to where I got my "subtle gorgeous" highlights! I also round brush & flat brush blowouts, french twists, chignon, ponytail. EACH appointment sets me up with a different stylist who is sensitive to my needs & tailors the look for me. Sure, some are better than others, but I have NEVER had a bad experience! I get free hair products from Bumble, pictures taken at class for their portfolio, and lots of kindness from the stylists, educators, front desk, etc. COMPLETELY Free and NO tipping allowed! Once you have the "initial assessment" which is a pain -- you wait in line for 45 minutes to get 5 minutes of chair time and make an appointment for some months down the line -- the rest is pretty straightforward. I've had 2 cuts by them (razor and graduated razor) and both were pretty good. The graduated razor was uneven at the bottom, which was unfortunate, but I didn't catch it until a few days after the cut. Both stylists who cut my hair had 5-10 years experience and were lovely gals. Aside from the feeling that you are being herded like cattle for a haircut, the experience is exactly what you would imagine it to be. read more

I've gotten my hair cut through this program three times, and it's been nothing short of amazing each time! Being a short-haired lass, I always sign up for the Razor Bob sessions. Though the stylists are encouraged to try out the techniques they learned earlier that day on you, I've had a couple of stylists admit that they try to give each "model" the best hair cut rather than what the Bumble & Bumble instructors want them to practice. A great philosophy, I think. Sidenote: their products are amazing. The Thickening Spray is great for baby-fine hair. However, I gave them four stars because I hated, hated, hated the Color class. Three hours for sloppy, off-red highlights? Hell to the no. They need to re-evaluate that class before people start turning to Nice N'Easy again. read more

I first heard of this place through a friend who has been getting her hair cut here for free for years. I decided to go for it, by first applying on their website and then coming in for model call where my hair was evaluated and approved for a certain type of haircut, as well as blowdrys and updos. After that, you can schedule your appointment during the times when classes take place where experienced stylists come to Bumble to learn a new technique or style and have live models to practice on. With the long layers haircut, they always ask what my preferences are. And there is an instructor that overlooks and gives constructive feedback before the stylist does any actual cutting. Because the stylists need approval and are learning a new technique, most classes will take anywhere from 1 hour for blowdrys, to 2-3 hours for updos and haircuts. The classes are also during work hours and on weekdays only, so this might be especially difficult for working folks unless you plan to take off that day. UPDATE: They now have special updo days on Sundays. In addition, every time you do an updo/blowdry, you get $10 product credit to be used toward their products only on the day of. You also collect Hairmiles each time, 10 Hairmiles = $40 product credit, 20 Hairmiles = $80 product credit, and 30 Hairmiles = Blowdryer and Flat/Round Brush. You can also combine the $10 product credit you get each time. The Hairmiles expire within 6 months of the first time you get a new card to put them in. My experiences here has been wonderful here. This year I wanted something shorter, and went in for the razor bob - I left with a cut very clearly botched. (Specifically, the back was longer than the front and cut in ugly, jagged angles.) Bb.U always asks for feedback and I always respond, and I told them honestly what I thought of my "bob." After a few days (after which the cut looked no better), a Bb.U model coordinator e-mailed me. I was very happily surprised, and after we exchanged a few emails and I sent her a few pictures, she booked me for an appointment with a Bb. Salon stylist (also a Bb.U educator), Britney. My appointment was lovely. Britney was clearly skilled and knowledgeable, and we chatted about the model project while she razored my hair into the style I originally wanted. There wasn't much she could do about the almost-hole that had been chopped at the back of my neck, but she cleaned up the bottom edge and made the entire cut look much more polished. Over all, I was immensely pleased by how well Bb.U treats their models, and how willing Shira (the model coordinator) was to talk to me and work out a solution even though she was under no obligation to do so. Neelam P. got me hooked onto this. I remember her mentioning it a while back and she invite me to go earlier this summer when I had a half day from work. It worked out perfectly. We both got a $10 product credit too! We did the Round Brush Blowout - both our hair came out fabulous. The lady at B&B started calling Neelam Bollywood dreams because hair looked so voluminous - and I've never seen it have such body - it looked amazing on her! I love getting my hair done in general, and trying new places. But, it's even more amazing when you can get a great job done for FREE! My stylist was from SF and was just brushing up with a course at B&B and taught me soem cool tricks. The second time I went (This week) the stylist was really sweet and did pretty well too - she got compliments from all the other stylists on how my hair looks. read more

My last two haircuts were actually at bumble & bumble's salon just upstairs. They were the greatest haircuts I've ever had, I felt like I had supermodel hair. Due to budget restraints, I went for the model project. Everything about my model project experience was great, except the cut... The cut was horrible. I came to the Bumble & Bumble Model Project and had an appointment in the Bbx cut class. I was prepared with a few ideas, and ready/excited to collaborate with my stylist. He and I looked over my ideas, and I told him how I am no fuss when it comes to actually doing my hair.. I'm an air dry and surf spray kind of girl. We agreed quickly on a certain look/cut. The cut... My hair was long and I was looking to get rid of about 4-5 inches, adding some more layers, and some shorter pieces in the front to frame my face. He went at least 2-3 inches shorter, and I ended up with bangs... Really weird, long, thick, and blunt bangs. My hair is also about 1 1/2 inches shorter on my left side and each side is layered differently. So it basically looks like two different hair cuts and lengths on each side if my head. When he finished and was trying to style my hair, he seemed to be having a problem. He apologized and told me, he was sorry he added way to much product and my hair was matted and weird. So when I saw it's flawed appearance he indirectly said it was due to the product, not the cut. So, I went home trying to contain my feeling of dismay and showered to get all of that product out of my hair. Well, then it actually looked worse.. It heightened the imbalance of my cut. I will never cut budget corners again and be in the model project. I gave them feedback via email a day later, stating I hated my cut and I've never heard from them. It sucks that now I'll have to wait 6 months for this to grow out, so I can then pay $150 for an actual bumble & bumble stylist to try and fix this mess. read more

i've been getting my hair cut here for 4+ years now. (1) because i'm cheap and (2) because i STILL want an amazing salon haircut. i've received the long layer scissor cut numerous times, but for the past year have been coming for the current cut only. i love how they spend so much time with you talking about what you want and what they think would look good and work well for your hair. i always end up with a look that i love! i've also come here for the round-brush blow dry, the flat-brush blow dry, and the up-do's. these i do more for the product credit ($10 each time) as well as the "hair miles," a point system that you can trade in for more products and treatments. it's a win-win situation. the salon is gorgeous, and it's always so fun to talk to the students and instructors. some things to note: 1. show up 15 minutes early. once, i didn't. and i didn't get my haircut. :( 2. only the blow outs come with hair washing. i LOVE this - it's my favorite part 3. the updo's are runway-ready... meaning that they're hard to wear casually afterwards. 4. no tipping! 5. they only color lighter colored hair. Update: After filling out a feedback form following my haircut, and posting my review on Yelp, I received an exceptionally nice, and unsolicited phone call from the folks at the BB Model Project. Not only were they genuinely concerned with understanding and correcting my experience, but they also were eager to receive feedback in order to improve upon the service going forward. They explained that (a) students that have problems with utilizing the tools may not pass the certification that they were in NY for, and may be required to get more practice before returning to BB Model Project, (b) instructors are suppose to supervise both students AND models to ensure that they have a positive experience - something that will be addressed, and (c) that students are actually discouraged from providing styling services like blowdrying and that this is usually regulated by the instructor. It sounds like I, unfortunately, just had a very bad first experience. That said, mistakes always are bound to happen in customer service businesses, but it is rare for a company to care so much about their reputation and client base to proactively reach out and try to rectify their mistakes. BB offered to have me come into the salon as soon as I was able to do so in order to have a different stylist fix my lopsided shaggy bob. I really appreciate and applaud their efforts to learn from and proactively correct their mistakes. read more

I have to say that for FREE, this was pretty good. Here's my only complaints. - I felt like they didn't "trim" my hair like normal haircuts do, they more focus on just getting the right "shape". I might be wrong, but I feel my ends did not get trimmed as efficiently as I would have liked. - You have to sit for a long time (2 hrs) and half of the time, your stylist is not doing anything because they are waiting for the overseer to give them the go-ahead. - The first time I went and was supposed to get my hair cut, 2 of the sylists couldn't make it and I had to go home. However, they scheduled me another GUARANTEED appointment for 2 weeks later and also gave me a $20 product credit. Not bad. - The stylist put a LOT of product in my hair. I didn't love it at first. However once I washed it and made it my own, I LOVED it. Probably my favorite hair cut to date. By the way, I got the 'long layers scissors' Also, the people who cut your hair are stylists that have been in the business for years, not young students like I thought they would be (i don't know why). The overseer makes sure that they are doing a good job and they really do! read more

Hands-down worst haircut I have ever received. I can't imagine what their people were thinking when they let me walk out of there with a full-on mullet, but I do know it will take at least two full years to grow it out to even be able to fix it (I flew to another state for a trusted stylist to help--she was astounded that they did this to me and her prowess could only help so much as the fallout was so extensive). Every time I look in the mirror, I get super bummed out and curse this place's name. I took a survey they sent to let them know what happened and when I didn't hear back I reached out to them directly... No response. Clearly they do not care what happens after you leave the chair. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. No one deserves to have their hair look like this. Donald Trump probably get his hair done here. read more

Have been getting great and FREE haircuts for years through b&b. They always look wonderful and I get compliments each time. For anyone worried about having a rookie mess up your hair, fear not! They have great trainers overseeing everyone's work, and if anyone screws up (which rarely happens) they swoop in and fix it. It's the best deal in NYC. read more
