We had a team of four, and for a room rated 7/10 difficulty, it provided a great balance of challenge and fun. The puzzles were engaging, required teamwork, and kept us thinking throughout the entire game without ever feeling frustrating. What really set this experience apart was the immersion. Our game host, Sophia, was fantastic. From the moment she greeted us, she was completely in character and stayed that way as she guided us into the experience. Instead of the typical pre-recorded video that many escape room companies use to explain the rules and backstory, Sophia personally led us to a briefing with The Architect. Having a real person, fully committed to the role, deliver the story and set the stage added a level of excitement and authenticity that immediately pulled us into the world of the game. We made it out without needing any clues and even earned spots on both the weekly and monthly leaderboards, which made the experience even more rewarding. The attention to detail was impressive, and that live introduction made a huge difference. It felt less like a standard escape room and more like stepping into an interactive adventure. If you're looking for an immersive escape room experience in the Bethesda area, I highly recommend The Black Widow at Encrypted Escape. This was underwhelming and disappointing to say the least. My partner and I love doing escape…read morerooms, so we looked for the hardest one in the area. We saw Outbreak from Big Escape Room had a 9% or 19% success rate (you see both numbers written on their website so I'm not sure what the actual % is) and that they could accommodate up to 10 people, so we booked that one. There is the option to reserve the entire room, which we preferred so that our group could have the room to ourselves. I asked if there was room to store our belongings, and they had a room we could reserve for $$, but I was just curious if we had cubbies or anything. In general, the escape room itself is fine for storing belongings. - Logistics - Once we arrived, we had to wait until past our reservation time because they were still setting up the room and waiting for the group before us to finish. We ended up starting ~30 minutes after our reservation time, which became part of the reason we were late to our dinner reservation after that. On top of that, we were told there was a lock in our room that wasn't working, so they suggested we do the Clown room instead. We decided to continue doing Outbreak but told them to just leave the lock open, and only grant us permission to move ahead once we figured out the code. I had read reviews that the equipment wasn't maintained very well, and that was the first indication of that. We hadn't even started the room yet! - The Room Experience - Things were largely fine in the first room we were in, but again we found locks that weren't working properly. When we managed to get the code, we only got half of the lock open and then lowkey brute-forced the contents out because we weren't sure we were going to get the other side. Thank goodness the contents were small enough to make it out. The second room was chaotic. We also started to ask for hints once we arrived in this room, but our walkie talkie was improperly set, so I had to leave the room to find the staff to help us out. That took up time to set up, and the staff weren't sure where we how far along we had gotten, so that took up even more time out of our time limit. I couldn't tell if they were on their phone for work or leisure, but hopefully the former... The worst part comes towards the end. We had finally made progress, but the solution we got to the math problem wasn't opening up the lock despite the game guide's instructions that it would. So much time had run out at that point, including the time limit, during which staff came in to explain what went wrong for us. One of the staff members actually had not played/made the game, so they couldn't not walk us through the solution and instead needed to call another person to do that. They could have invested in more training for staff... When we finally got the explanation for the lock, it turns out they gave us the wrong formula for the solution??? How many people have done the room with the wrong formula? Why didn't the staff test out everything, including the formula, to make sure it actually works? Despite the many things that went wrong, they let us finish up the room past our time limit after identifying the error was on their part. Most anticlimactic exit ever, but an exit nonetheless. We were late to our dinner reservation already, so we decided we might as well finish this out. - Overall - The staff are kind, but this is not an escape room I recommend or will be returning to any time soon.

We had the BEST time at Insomnia Escape Room DC for my son's 16th birthday! It was my first-ever…read moreescape room, and my son--who's done a few before--said this was hands down his favorite so far. We chose the Mafia room, and from the moment we stepped in, we were transported to the Prohibition era. The atmosphere, the design--everything felt like stepping into a vintage crime thriller. The puzzles were super engaging--challenging enough to keep us on our toes, but perfectly balanced for the time limit. I especially appreciated that each room is a private experience, so it was just our group working together, which made it even more special. Martina, our host, was incredible--welcoming, professional, and gave just the right hint when we were stuck without taking away the thrill. We cracked the final clue with five minutes to spare and left feeling exhilarated! The location is a hidden gem--tucked in a quiet, walkable corner of Glover Park, close to restaurants and shops, and very easy to get to. We're already planning our return--my son can't wait to try another room with his sister and friends! The Patient room is next on our list!

(this adventure actually prompted me to start working out again). If you answered yes to any of this, I think you'd love the caving adventures trip. You probably wouldn't even be as sore as me if you're in better shape as well. I had the delight of going on the caving adventures trip guided by Eriq and another guide (sorry that i forgot his name). We were able to explore inside the cave and I was able to do a lot more than I ever thought I could in a very safe, controlled, yet challenging environment. I loved how Eriq was very good at telling us how to be safe and avoid accidents. It was a great balance of making you very aware of the risks you might face without being over dramatic to scare you but yet serious enough that you heeded his advice. What I thought was the neatest thing about caving was that it combined many outdoor activities into one. Whether it was going down a 30-40ft drop by harness, figuring out how to climb different rocks, squeezing and crawling on your belly through tunnels, or wedging your body between objects to climb or descend. I really enjoyed Eriq's way of pushing us to do more even when you might have been hesitant. He was very good at bringing out the best in you but yet not so insistent that you felt pressured. By the end of the adventure I did much more than I thought I would and really felt a sense of accomplishment. Not to mention I got one hell of a work out. Highly recommend, this is one of the more memorable experiences I've had in life.

"Pardon me, ma'am, is that bleeding boil on your face part of your costume, or are you infectious to my horrified kids?" anywhooo, my bother came to visit and for 4 years, we have gone to markoff's haunted forest (love it) but decided to give a local haunted experience a try for something different. I was a bit disappointed. BUT... I think experiences like this are very individual... I LOVE Markoff's: the time and the meticulous artistry that goes into every scene. . I like more subtle scares... Less of the pop out and startle you type of scare. Hallow, Inc. Is more of the latter... Less meticulous with their scenes, although they are new so I gave them three stars for effort. It's a great haunt in the making. Things I really enjoyed: the entrance had a sampling of zombies in cages screaming at us while we walked in to get our tix. Nice touch... Made me excited for more. I liked the premise of the story and the short movie they showed at the entrance. Again... Whet my anticipation. I appreciated all the actors, even outdoors in the sobering strip mall... They did not break character and were very dedicated to the story of it all. My vote: more dedication to the scenery next year.

Disappointing experience but I appreciate the boys trying to make us get a little play time before we had to get kicked out. Not a fan of the token situation to use the machine. DBat had touch cards like Dave and Busters. And not a fan of the surcharge either. If another person makes a batting business closer to Clarksburg?
