11/1/19 One of the first blast of rollercoasters I have been…read moreon. I believe this is the first blast coaster I experienced. Since then, I have been on many other blast coasters. On 8 May 1999 I heard advertisements for The Joker's Jinx . I remember I didn't like the ads for the ride, but I knew I would certainly ride this ride. The day I went to the park, I rode many rides, because I know the line for this ride would be long no matter what time I went. When I finally arrived to the ride, the line was long, but there were refreshments for those in line. The lemonade hit the spot and I had plenty of time before I rode the ride to get the fluid into my system. When I saw the paint job for the Joker, I never thought emerald green and purple went well together, BUT THEY DO. Oh, I was young back then. I even bought a Joker's Jinx tee shirt. At that time I wore a large tee shirt. I don't remember what happened to the shirt, but I know I through...no...I believe I gave it to good will. When I finally got to the gated area, you had to pass by several mirrors that made you look distorted. For my first experience I went straight to the back where I had to wait a little longer. Why, because the rear is tighter? Because I like it in the rear? Or because the rear of the car is the fastest. This answer is the best answer. The front is the slowest, but the rear end gets pushed forwards because of the force of the front of the car. The middle seats are a natural point. In this case since it is a blast coaster it pretty much doesn't matter until you feel the rear end of the car moving faster from the pulling of the rest of the cars. The spiraling looks to the side way turns make this rollercoaster a lot of fun. Listening to one of the operator say "Hands Up, hands up, I wanna see your hands." Once everyone's hands were up, he would hit the go button and everyone in the coaster cars would shoot forwards. I would love to say The Joker's Jinx started the blast coasters craze, but it wouldn't be true. Still, I had a lot of fun. This ride is a steel ride and steel rides have been know to be smoother than the wooden rollercoasters. I wouldn't mind going on this ride again. I would call this a high thrill ride.

We booked with Mission Escape Rooms for a fun weekend activity to do. They are located inside…read moreArundel Mills Mall, in Neighborhood 2. This was my first time trying Mission Escape. We booked online in advance to get the time slot we wanted, but if your schedule is more flexible, there is currently a 15% discount special for walk-ins through 11/2/2025 (there are plenty of ways to kill time in this giant mall). I'm used to being paired with strangers, but each booking with Mission Escape is private, so your group will have the room to yourselves to figure out the puzzles and clues. It is an experience after all, so despite booking by room, you still pay per person (~$40). You should get there a few minutes early to sign the waiver. They also have restrooms inside to take care of business before you go locking yourselves in a room for an hour (technically 50 minutes). After we filled out the waivers, we were escorted to our room and the gamekeeper gave us an overview of the experience. Pictures are not allowed and phone use is not really allowed, other than to use as a flashlight or calculator. The room also had a small clipboard with paper and a pen if you needed scratch paper. For the fall season, they have some spookier themed rooms. I'm not into scary, so we did the Fantastical Chocolate Factory room (naturally). The room has a 6.5/10 difficulty, which I would say is one of the easier rooms. The rooms are small. We were a group of two, and three would've felt like a crowd... but they allow you to squeeze in up to eight people! Based on the room difficulty and our experience with escape rooms, two was plenty. They have an intercom system if you need to patch in for clues. They'll also give you warnings as time elapses (20 minutes remaining, 10 minutes remaining, etc.). We did need to ask for one clue towards the end... beware of red herrings (but that's part of the fun). Our goal in the chocolate factory room wasn't to escape, but rather to discover the secret recipe for the everlasting gobstopper. By "recipe," they mean "ingredient," which felt a bit anticlimactic at the end. I would've appreciated more debriefing at the end of the experience. With 10 minutes remaining, I went into panic mode and was able to crack the locks with the information that we had, but I'm not sure if we solved every clue as intended. When we "escaped," a staff member opened the door, congratulated us, and escorted us back to the front to snap a picture with their photobooth props. Other escape room companies have better branding to advertise their name, or allow you to at least snap one picture to showcase the room. Overall, it was a fun way to spend an evening. The decor inside the room was realistic to fit with the theme, the puzzles are a good balance of feeling challenging enough to make you problem-solve, but not so much to make it feel impossible, and there were subtle clues in the room to guide you along without having to ask for help constantly. I would book another experience with Mission Escape Rooms.

This was underwhelming and disappointing to say the least. My partner and I love doing escape…read morerooms, so we looked for the hardest one in the area. We saw Outbreak from Big Escape Room had a 9% or 19% success rate (you see both numbers written on their website so I'm not sure what the actual % is) and that they could accommodate up to 10 people, so we booked that one. There is the option to reserve the entire room, which we preferred so that our group could have the room to ourselves. I asked if there was room to store our belongings, and they had a room we could reserve for $$, but I was just curious if we had cubbies or anything. In general, the escape room itself is fine for storing belongings. - Logistics - Once we arrived, we had to wait until past our reservation time because they were still setting up the room and waiting for the group before us to finish. We ended up starting ~30 minutes after our reservation time, which became part of the reason we were late to our dinner reservation after that. On top of that, we were told there was a lock in our room that wasn't working, so they suggested we do the Clown room instead. We decided to continue doing Outbreak but told them to just leave the lock open, and only grant us permission to move ahead once we figured out the code. I had read reviews that the equipment wasn't maintained very well, and that was the first indication of that. We hadn't even started the room yet! - The Room Experience - Things were largely fine in the first room we were in, but again we found locks that weren't working properly. When we managed to get the code, we only got half of the lock open and then lowkey brute-forced the contents out because we weren't sure we were going to get the other side. Thank goodness the contents were small enough to make it out. The second room was chaotic. We also started to ask for hints once we arrived in this room, but our walkie talkie was improperly set, so I had to leave the room to find the staff to help us out. That took up time to set up, and the staff weren't sure where we how far along we had gotten, so that took up even more time out of our time limit. I couldn't tell if they were on their phone for work or leisure, but hopefully the former... The worst part comes towards the end. We had finally made progress, but the solution we got to the math problem wasn't opening up the lock despite the game guide's instructions that it would. So much time had run out at that point, including the time limit, during which staff came in to explain what went wrong for us. One of the staff members actually had not played/made the game, so they couldn't not walk us through the solution and instead needed to call another person to do that. They could have invested in more training for staff... When we finally got the explanation for the lock, it turns out they gave us the wrong formula for the solution??? How many people have done the room with the wrong formula? Why didn't the staff test out everything, including the formula, to make sure it actually works? Despite the many things that went wrong, they let us finish up the room past our time limit after identifying the error was on their part. Most anticlimactic exit ever, but an exit nonetheless. We were late to our dinner reservation already, so we decided we might as well finish this out. - Overall - The staff are kind, but this is not an escape room I recommend or will be returning to any time soon.

We showed up to play and the employee working there quit saying the place was a s***hole…read more Another disgruntled employee showed up and was very rude and abrasive as if everything happening was our fault. We had waited an hour at that point so we said we just want a refund. We were told to fill out the credit card authorization form and write "we did not play this game" to get a refund. Someone came out of one of the rooms as we were leaving and said "We've been asking for a clue for a long time now and this part of the Escape Room is not working". Exactly why we decided to not play. We called the next day and were told by Gregg, who I think is the owner, that it would take 7-16 business days to get the refund, which in itself is absurd, but we were trying to be patient and courteous. After 16 business days we called again and were told the refund was processed and they have no idea why we didn't receive it. That they are waiting to talk to "Brandon" who handles their accounts but that I am not allowed to talk to him or their billing department. They are unwilling to send us a refund check. Looking at other reviews I understand now the guy is a lying scam artist and we aren't going to get our money back. Not to mention trying to find this place was difficult enough. It's like being in an escape room just to find their office in the creepy business building they are in. That employee was right - what a s***hole!

We booked a private party at Tactical Airsoft Arena for a casual outing with 10 people. Most of us…read morewere first-timers and even two of our dads joined us. It was definitely an awesome experience. The field layout is one of the highlights. It's tight CQB but designed really well, with a central room and perimeter hallway that keeps both sides balanced. The areas between respawns add variety with different sightlines and angles, so every round feels a little different. IThe layout makes camping very difficult so it helped keep the pace high, which we all appreciated. The staff went above and beyond. Our ref was flexible with game modes and helped keep everything organized and moving so we got the most out of our 3-hour rental. He even rotated in some of his personal upgraded markers so we could try setups with optics and lights, which was a nice bonus. Safety was taken seriously with a full briefing (video + walkthrough) and strict FPS checks. My personal marker was shooting a bit hot, and the owner swapped the spring for free and let me keep both springs. This small gesture one example of many that speaks volumes to how they treat customers. The staging area shows some wear from heavy use, but that's expected in a high traffic facility and didn't impact the experience. They also have cameras setup in the field that stream to the staging area TVs. We did a 2v2 competition and we were able to spectate our friends going head-to-head. Definitely bring water because you'll get a workout, though they do have drinks and snacks available onsite. As a private party, they also allow you to bring food and coolers for drinks if you'd like. What stood out most was how accessible it was for all skill levels. We had several beginners, and it was great watching everyone get more comfortable and confident as the session went on. Booking private was 100% worth it. Being able to control your group makes a big difference. Overall, great value, great staff and a really fun environment. Would absolutely go back.

It reminded me of call of duty (of course without the blood and killing). There were 4 15 minute sessions and I could tell that many of the players were regulars. I sat out the 4th session. I feel I was not dressed appropriately with leggings on. After being "shot" a few times, the sting of the BB's was enough for me to say I'm done. Overall, it was a good experience.

My group was all new to escape rooms at the time and we didn't even make it to the second room lol! So I can't comment too much on the whole experience here, but based on the half experience and as compared to the now 2 other locations I've been to, I would say this is definitely a subpar location and experience. I would give it a 2.5, but I would say it's more of a 2 than a 3.

We had the BEST time at Insomnia Escape Room DC for my son's 16th birthday! It was my first-ever…read moreescape room, and my son--who's done a few before--said this was hands down his favorite so far. We chose the Mafia room, and from the moment we stepped in, we were transported to the Prohibition era. The atmosphere, the design--everything felt like stepping into a vintage crime thriller. The puzzles were super engaging--challenging enough to keep us on our toes, but perfectly balanced for the time limit. I especially appreciated that each room is a private experience, so it was just our group working together, which made it even more special. Martina, our host, was incredible--welcoming, professional, and gave just the right hint when we were stuck without taking away the thrill. We cracked the final clue with five minutes to spare and left feeling exhilarated! The location is a hidden gem--tucked in a quiet, walkable corner of Glover Park, close to restaurants and shops, and very easy to get to. We're already planning our return--my son can't wait to try another room with his sister and friends! The Patient room is next on our list!

I came for a friend's bday and we did the mafia room and we got the all-time record with 31 minutes left. It wasn't easy but definitely not hard. I've done escape rooms where it had a lot more puzzles (some irrelevant to actually solving the escape room). But I felt the mafia room would be great for a family or group of friends, both casual and competitive. Most of us were competitive hence the time and using no hints. Would love to try the other rooms. Despite it being on the corner of Wisconsin Ave, a busy street, there was plenty of street parking and very accessible. Love that it isn't a totally busy neighborhood.

You got a real sense of what kind of person she was, how she was not perfect like people think but how she truly believed in what she did and she lived it literally, making her home a place to take in fire/flood and natural disaster victims/war victims. She truly did care and it weighed on her. The house itself is huge. However at this time, the furnishing are mostly in storage as they are awaiting rehab on the building. You can't go upstairs. If it'd of been rehabbed and all moved back in and you could go upstairs, I think this would be a 5 star review. Right now it needs TLC. Her stuff is still there though. I wish they' d of upkept the garden it's a jungle mess back there. However, it's in a cool area to check out and a lovely drive just outside of DC. Enjoyed the visit there and the park ranger was the highlight of the trip.

Entry went very smoothly (although I was surprised they didn't have any security or bag checks). But the line to get tickets for the carousel, maze, and train was all one line with one cashier and snaked around so much that it really impacted the crowds just walking past. It was busy, but generally not overly so. However, they did sell out of tickets and weren't selling any at the entrance so make sure to buy them online ahead of time! The one big disappointment for me was the food. There were a lot of stalls open which helped with the lines, but they weren't staffed well enough to handle the influx of people, leading to longer wait times. The food was also really expensive, and didn't have the quality to match it. I got a plain hot chocolate for $8 and it tasted like it was just a swiss miss powder.... I think the lanterns and lights are worth the $9 entry fee, but plan on skipping the food/drinks or bringing your own. I wish I'd just brought an insulated tumbler with hot chocolate from home.
