I've been coming here on and off a for a few years. I enjoy the service every time I come. I don't ask for anything complicated. I mainly get my old dip taken off and new dip put on. If you want a complicated design I would definitely ask prior to booking. They also offer a number of other services they aren't just a mani pedi place. I wish I could leave 0 stars. I have had issues with the last 2 appointments I scheduled with a specific tech (the reason I come here) and upon getting there I'm met with she's not here they shouldn't have booked you for this day. I got stuck with another tech who completely ruined my set. She finished my fill and polish and when she asked what I thought I told her I was not satisfied because my nails looked like they had hills and valleys across the tops. She offered to fix one or two and I told her that they all needed to be fixed. She then filed down the entire side of one of my nails removing the acrylic leaving the nail very oddly shaped. My left hand is completely shorter than my right entirely!!! When I got to the front the let me know my services would cost $90.00!! I let them know I was not satisfied with the service and that if I couldn't get the tech I came here for I was going to take my business elsewhere. I am in the beauty industry and I work directly with people and I could NEVER have a client walk out the door at a price point like this unhappy, dissatisfied and disgusted with the service I was met with. I wish I could give this place zero stars. The nail technician was rough, repeatedly scraped my skin with the nail file. Zero sanitization to the tools that were used. She cut my nails down entirely TOO low. And yet I still was charged $35 of a $50 service where I only got my polish taken off. I feel it's important to share my experience at Escape Nails and Spa on West Broad Street in Richmond. Unfortunately, the service I received was very disappointing. I am someone who takes my grooming seriously -- I get a pedicure and manicure every three weeks, so I know what professional, detailed work should look like. This time, however, the quality was nowhere near acceptable. While getting my nails done, I noticed the young lady seemed to be rushing through the process. It wasn't until I stepped into the sunlight afterward that I realized just how poorly my nails had been done. The nails were clipped unevenly, there was still skin left around the nail beds, and overall it looked like a half-finished job. I went back inside to show the front desk, and even they shook their heads in disbelief at the poor quality of the work. That confirmed for me that this was not the level of service expected from a professional nail spa. When customers come in, we're not just paying for nails -- we're paying for the time, detail, and care that makes us feel good walking out. When I returned home, my big toe on 1 foot was painful at the cuticle, which was not the case prior to the pedicure. To relieve the discomfort, I removed the polish on that toe and soaked my foot in Epson salt and put ointment on it. it's feeling better now. My regular manicure ( different color) was nice but it came out looking a bit streaky. i believe the polish needed thinning. it was very nice atmosphere but just had some unfortunate glitches today. read more

This is the first time I have been to this salon. I definitely needed a pedicure and was looking for a relaxing experience. The technician was very nice, however, they used what looked like metal a cheese grater on my feet. As a result, I ended up with deep cuts in the cracks of my feet. I had to go to the doctor to get medication and bandages. I also had a manicure which was beautiful however, when the technician trimmed my cuticles, I bled and it hurt. Went to get a dip manicure and pedicure on 7/1. During the manicure the lady doing my nails cut my skin which caused me to bleed. She never asked me to wash my hands nor did she clean the blood instead she dipped my nail into the powder. (Color 116). Absolutely upsetting and I hope I don't get an infection. read more

Probably the worst mani/pedi I've ever had. The filing took all of 5 seconds and I had to ask for one of the toes to be filed more because it was so uneven and rough. Then he dug into my toe and yanked the whole edge of the nail off, and I even said ouch. Now that nail is red and inflamed, I hope it doesn't turn into an infection but it feels like it will. There was barely any cuticle care or filing on my fingernails, they are uneven and crooked, and the polish was painted on so thick that it's dented in multiple spots already. All in all getting both done took less time than it took for my friends to get just their pedicures. The atmosphere and wine can't make up for lack of attention to detail and care. read more

It took me a very long time to come to that decison. The receptionist wrote my order down and gave it to my technician Vanessa. The fact that my order was written down didnt seem to lessen the confussion because my technician didnt seem to sure about what services I was getting. To be clear on things I finally stated "Hey I am only paying X amount of dollars for all my services today Kapeesh??!!" Once I knew we had a understanding on what was getting done I just sat back and enjoyed myelf. The decor, the soft spa music, low lighting, complimentary Wine and Fruit mentality transported me to pure bliss. I was happy, my feet and nails were looking good things were great. Then things got even better...my technician pleasantly surprised me with a neck and shoulder massage apparently it came with my package. The restroom at Escape was really cool they had one of those electric toilets with all the bells and whistles. It was a little extravagent for my taste and kinda hard to use but a nice touch to go along with their luxurious theme. Escape nail salon is not the place you go for a quick fill or a cheap manicure this place is pricey. However, the people that come here dont pay to just get a "fill" they are here to have a moment of silence from thier day to day life. They are here to leave feeling beautiful and relaxed. So if you are just looking to get a quick nail service this is not the place for you. if I could give zero stars I would. First, no smile and no hello at reception desk. Second, I requested a basic mani/pedi, no polish, but that I did want to buff. Third, shortest pedi I've ever received had to ask her if it included a massage. I requested the list of pedicures and a basic does include a massage so then she gave me a massage. She brought me up to the desk to pay and I had to remind her that I wanted a manicure also. Fifth, shortest manicure I've ever had. Sixth, they tried to charge me $12 for a buff. I argued that I didn't even get polish. Why would I pay for a buff? Why would that not be included? She said well a shiny buff is $12. I looked at my nails there was no shine. I said this is not shiny and the buff took a total of two seconds per nail. A buff was hardly done. Stay away if you want value read more

I've got to say, I've never had a shellac manicure last this long without peeling. Going on 3 1/2 weeks since I got this done and not a single nail has messed up! I work in an office during the week but I work on a farm on the weekends so these nails have not been treated gently! The salon has great ambiance and I love coming here for a treat. This is the best nail salon I've found in Richmond! I went here for the first time yesterday and it was hands down the best experience I've had at a Richmond salon. I loved the atmosphere, it was calming and enjoyable. All of the staff were kind and friendly. I absolutely LOVED Gladys, the woman who did my nails. She was so sweet and knew what she was doing. I showed her 2 pictures of what I wanted and she delivered without batting an eye. The quality of her work blew me away. This is the most luxurious nail salon I've been to in the Richmond area-- the service for the price is unbeatable. My first and last trip tobthis place! My pedicure was painful! A man did my pedicure, but I highly doubt he had any formal training. The water was way too hot! He was cutting my skin with the cuticle nipper, and my toes are sore now. He asked if I had flip flops-uh, no, I was wearing shoes. I came in yesterday evening for a fill and a repair. Over the phone, I let them know I needed someone who could do simple designs or some type of nail art. I wanted gold nails and asked for gold foil. They opted to using gold gel polish and chrome powder on top to make it more shiny. For a fill and repair the service took over two hours. My nail tech, Lora, was thorough and very friendly. Although I wasn't asked if I wanted any refreshments, I enjoyed my experience with her and would visit HER again. This review is no reflection on her as a nail tech as I would recommend her to my friends. Midway through my nails, the receptionist asked for payment because they were closing the registers. I asked for the price and she asked what I had done. I told her a fill with acrylic, one repair, gel polish, and chrome on top. She wrote down: $25+5+20+20=$70 and told me that would be my total. Pricey for a fill but I had no objections because I assumed prices would be a bit higher here. The nail tech Lora came over from being up front and said "no it's $75" because I got a "French style" manicure with the gel polish. No objections from me and my card was charged. While my nails were finishing another receptionist came over because the previous had left for the night and told me it would be an additional $4 I had to pay since I had a repair...the first receptionist and my nail tech told me it was already including the repair and even itemized it for me but the new receptionist was persistent it was not. I am not paying $80 for a fill after being told three different prices. She came back over and told me I was supposed to get charged more, but this time "it's fine." She was not rude towards me, but it was a strange situation and in no way was a miscommunication because she called the original receptionist to confirm my total. 2 stars simply because they need to get it together. You cannot switch the price up on a customer 3 times- it makes me feel like they were just trying to see how much they could charge for the Service. First and only time I'll pay $75 (not including tip) for a fill. read more

Melissa is my girl!!!! She is super sweet and so amazing at what she does. I was quite surprised at how attentive she was during the massage portion of my pedicure. She spent extra time on areas she could feel tension in. Other places I've been just give me a generic massage that's half assed but Melissa gave me hands down the best massage I have ever had during a pedicure. I never get my nails done so im a total wreck when it comes to telling the technicians what i want. She was super informative about the different services they offer and told me everything I need to know about shellac. She even helped me pick the perfect color for my job ( I have to have neon colors). It wasn't painful at all. She was very gentle and precise with the entire thing. My nails look great. Went in for a standard fill in, with a cracked thumb nail..... was told they couldn't fix my thumb because it wasn't apart of the fill in! I assured them that paying for the thumb nail wasn't a issue because I knew it was broke! After being told no a few times and telling them I wasn't leaving out with the same cracked nail I came in with, they fixed (they made it a huge issue!!!!!!!!) but it's the last time they will be seeing me!!! They made it such a big issue and pretty much want u to pay your money while they do whatever they see fit! No thank u ! First time in this recently open Escape Nails and Day Spa and I have just to say that the place is amazing. I was a walk in today and was received by the owner. He was very welcoming and friendly all going in synchronized with the salon. He gave me the menu for the different type of services and did a brief explanation of them. The service was done by Krystal and she did an outstanding job. I choose the spa Organic Manicure/Pedicure - Calming Lavender Geranium and it included 30 min massage of neck, arms and back. Completely worth the money and the time! It was more of what I was expecting. The mani/pedi was one of the best as well. The salon is divided in different areas and they have as well a VIP room and a First class room! Can't wait to try those. I was explained by the owner that the VIP is more quiet and beautiful (Krystal gave me a tour), and in this one they do the pedi there. The First class room they do both mani and pedi there and you can choose what music to hear. So if you want to get away from the crowd this is the place to be (but remember it will cost a little more, again I bet is worth it). They do offer skin care treatments, massage, threading and waxing all in private rooms and very well decorated. The bathrooms as well are beautiful and clean!! Definitely this will be my first choice in the area and I will keep posting updates. read more

I love this place. It's very relaxing, they have enough techs that you rarely have to wait. They serve fresh fruit and beverages (alcohol if you like) and their pedicures are top notch. I'd give them 5 stars but their pedi chairs could use an upgrade. Some of the adjustments don't work and some people feel that there isn't any lumbar support (if you're not using the massage feature). But over all I highly recommend this nail salon. NOPE! So the first several reviews here indicate that I just had an isolated experience but I do not care, the experience was so bad I am not ever giving them another chance! My normal nail salon was super busy and wasn't accepting walk-ins. I was just looking for a place to have my gel nail polish removed so I walked in to Escape since I have been to their other locations and know they have a great reputation. Well I walk in and talk to the girl at the front, ask if they accept walk-ins and tell her that I just need to remove the polish. She smiles and says they can take me now but then I notice that they have a minimum of $20 if you need to use your credit card, I point this out and she points to the ATM they have near the counter. I smile, say okay and she walks me to a seat. As I am walking to the seat I notice that there are probably 4-5 employees who are not helping customers but are on their phones, slouched over their stations, looking bored which was a bit of a turn off but I decided to get over it. I am seated and a woman named Meilady (spelling?) comes over with what seems to be her daughter or friend and they both sit down in front of me, she greets me but I can tell she doesn't speak much English. She starts taking my polish off and wraps my finger in the acetone/foil and turns to her daughter and then proceeds to have a conversation with her daughter like a foot from me in Spanish. You can tell they are getting into an argument from the tone of their voices but they continue, I try and distract myself and look a the TV but they just have CNN on. While I am sitting there, trying not to get involved I notice that other customers are getting massages, I see several customers with water or beverages and realize I was never offered one. Figuring I was just getting polish off and wasn't getting a "service" I ignored it. At this point I figured, just get me out of here - then I look over and see a nail technician (Michael) picking his nose!! Guys I kid you not, he's like really picking his nose and then he flicks it! I also saw him shake a customers hand after the picking and I about lost it. At this point I am so done with this place I motion for my nail technician to take my foil off, which I had already had on for about 10 minutes (other places it's usually 5 minutes at max). She takes off the foil and polish and says I am done. I walk over to the counter and get in line for the ATM, at this point I realize there is a $2.50 fee but I don't care I just want to get out of there. I hand the lady the $20 and ask if I can get change back, she asks me how I want it and I say two tens, she then says "tip?" I am sure my jaw dropped, but I said whatever and asked for $8 back. The next day I noticed that my nails were short and brittle and the skin around my nails was blistered from being in the acetone for so long! So moral of the story - $10 (Service) + 2.50 (ATM Fee) + 2.50 (Private ATM Fee) + $2 (Guilt Tip!) = $17 for the WORST nail experience I have ever had. read more

I have come here many times for acrylics and they seem to pop off soon after I get them every single time. Last time I got a set here all of my nails were noticeably different lengths. I kept giving this place chance after chance. However, I just recently went and spent 60 dollars for acrylics with gel and on top of that I gave a 12 dollar tip because I thought that the lady did a good job. It's now a week and half later and 6 nails have already popped off. I'm very disappointed with the job that was done on them. Have liked this place and their service until the last couple of times, I have not had a good experience. Both times the technician was very rough with my finger nails while doing acrylic and it hurt. This time on a refill I was told by the technician that I could only use 'gel nail polish' since I had gel nails earlier. That was after I had already gotten my pedicure done in regular polish! After getting my service done, the manager mentioned I could have gotten regular nail polish on a refill, it doesnt matter! And they still charged me full pop of $44 for a gel refill plus the pedi. Very disappointing and I'm never going back there again. They need to focus on bettering their actual nail service than the bells and whistles with drinks and snacks. read more

I have always heard that Escape was pricey but let me be clear when I say you get what you pay for here! My total is normally $95 for a gel manicure and milk + oatmeal pedicure. Worth every single penny. I stumbled into Escape one weekend while my husband browsed at Cabelas and let me tell you, IM SO GLAD I DID. I completely lucked out with Ken. He is truly amazing and does a flawless job! My gel manicure is gorgeous and actually lasts. The pedicure isn't rushed and I am actually relaxed the entire time. They offer various drinks so I get the coffee every time and it's delicious! Who knew??? I actually look forward to my services here instead of like a chore and hope the place isn't busy. The environment is relaxing and well kept. It's pretty quiet unlike other nail salons. You won't be forced to watch a cooking show on a tv.... the ambiance is fantastic! As far as Covid precautions. Went to this location for the first time today! Only tried this location because I thought it would have been the same as the location I frequent on midlothian. And I must say both my mother and I were highly disappointed. We both asked for dip nails. When done mine nails were translucent, thin looking and were supposed to be an army green color. My mothers nails were not filed smoothly, looked lumpy and out of shaped. The sad part is the service took 2.5 hours. Will not return to this location ever! read more

I love this salon...I live downtown and always make the trek out to short pump specifically for going to Escape. I've never had a bad experience in the 1.5 years I've been frequenting this establishment and I go every 3-4 weeks for a gel mani. I do find it strange that I NEVER get offered a beverage or anything but everyone else around me does and it is offered with a gel manicure BUT I usually have my own coffee or water so I don't let it drag me down too much. And maybe that's why I don't get offered anything? Oh well! Recently, I've had my techs educate me on my nails and how to strengthen them again. While my nails peel, I always thought it was because of gel...but it's not. It's due to your specific technician and how rough they are. And the techs there have been super educational and even suggest ways of hydrating my nails. Which I really appreciate! I've made all of my girlfriends make the hike with me out to Escape because it's VERY worth it! You won't be disappointed! read more
