Mission escape room is on the 8th floor a building close to the time square/penn station area of Manhattan. We went with a group of 4 to do the Hyde room. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The puzzles for the most part make sense and were solvable. The room used some technology and everything appeared to work correctly. Room was linear for a lot of it but did have sections where several activities could be completed at once. I'd say it was medium difficulty we asked for one hint and finished with 3 minutes to spare. I'd definitely return to try out the other two rooms at this location. read more

I came here on a Saturday. The building was easy to find, with the escape room located in a suite on the 8th floor. They recommend signing the waiver before arrival, especially for large groups, as it can take a few minutes for each person to get checked in. There was a place inside the room to hang coats and bags. Cellphones and photography are not allowed. We were a group of four and did Escape Operation: End of Days (A). They rated this as a 7 out of 10 in terms of difficulty. We had one person in our group who had never done an escape room before. They provided three hints (with a few bonus ones if you were stuck) and we definitely needed all of them. The room involved a lot of matching, with color and number pairing. We escaped with an extra two minutes of bonus time. They said about 30-35% of people escape this room. At the end, an employee helped take pictures of our group with fun signs against the step and repeat. We had fun and enjoyed the brain challenge! Would definitely check out the other rooms offered at this location. read more

A fairly decent set of escape rooms; Mission is on the 8th floor (?); just tell the front desk you're here for an escape room and they'll let you know where to go. As far as production, I remember this place for its lighting and effects. Not too bad, considering the rooms and waiting area are mediocre in terms of quality. Bathrooms are cheap but somewhat clean. We did the Carbon and End of Days A games in teams of 3 and 5 respectively, with our everyone, myself included, having done about 20+ escape rooms each. Carbon was the highlight, and quite challenging. It's fairly high quality and we barely got out without hints (9/10). End of Days was fine but underwhelming (7/10). Staff weren't rude but not exactly enthusiastic or friendly. You could definitely tell they just want to be somewhere else. Kinda lowers the ambiance when the proctor sounds like she's bored out of her mind while reading the prompt. read more

A group of 9-10 year old did the "End of Days A" and "end of Days B" (both rooms are exactly the same). They each received 5 hints. Neither team could complete the escape room in 60 minutes .Both teams needed another 20 minutes and more hints to complete. Would recommend 7-10 hints for a group of this age to get out. I think it would be a good birthday party if the kids could get out.. or when they don't get out... some lights or scary stuff happened. Still a good event. We had a blast here at Mission Escape Games. You do all the booking and waiver stuff online at their website. I booked us as a party of 3 coming in for End of Days B. It was marked 7/10 but I played another 7/10 difficulty one and it was much easier, I would say this is maybe 8-8.5/10. It was my friend's first escape room game & my boyfriend's second. We were quickly taken to our escape room, and Ren was our game guide. She went through everything super clearly and quickly, and we were on our way! They do have a no phone policy, although we would have liked to take pictures we did respect their rules. Each of the puzzles were very clever and it could be easy to miss certain things! So make sure to pay attention to everything and look everywhere. I honestly wish we asked for more hints but that's totally on us because Ren was super helpful each time we did ask. We did fail but still enjoyed it nonetheless! Amazing rooms with good puzzles, Ren was an amazing host and honestly made our experience that much better. read more

4 years later, I have returned to Mission Escape Games after doing more escape rooms in NYC. My friend and I did Escape the Hydeout. We had an amazing experience, and I felt more thrills since we both actively solved the puzzles. We went on a weekday, so it was $80 for a private room (huge plus), so $40/person, which is expensive, but we understand that it gets cheaper the more people you have. One thing to keep in mind while booking: I am the biggest scaredy-cat, and some of the sound effects combined with the dimly lit room made me scared. Just an FYI for other people who sympathize. The pros: The puzzles at this franchise make a lot of sense. I've been to other escape rooms where there is no logical connection to what unlocks what. I also like that their locks vary in type, and some cool technology is applied. The room also doesn't follow the typical linear pattern, which provides a level of challenge that I enjoyed. The scene is well done and immersive. The cons: I do not like that the room is not well-lit, and you cannot use a phone flashlight. Maybe some people think looking at things in dim light enhances the experience, but I think the room's challenge would not be compromised will SLIGHTLY better lighting. There were also several times where I asked for a hint, and the moderator would not be responsive. This wasted a few minutes of time, and there were things that I could've been working on that were not what my friend was working on. There was also an area of the room not in view of the hint board, so if they ever redesign this room, I think the time and hint board should be visible at any given point. I know visually my cons looks longer than the pros, but the puzzles making sense is such a huge plus that it outweighs the cons. We were told that we could attempt their Cyberpunk Carbon room with 2 people, but that would bring the price to $45, which is pricey. Since I did Operation End of Days 4 years ago, it seems like there isn't too much change in the rooms, so hopefully they can get more space with different rooms. I also wish they gave discounts for returning customers. Overall, if you go with a smaller group, you will have a great experience! read more

We had a big group so it was important to me that everyone had things they could do (instead of some folks standing around watching everyone). So here on Yelp, I asked about which is the most nonlinear game and the owner answered. Based on his recommendation we did the Carbon room. We had a great time! Admittedly at the very beginning there was a little bit of "some folks doing most of the things and others watching". But part of that was due to us not really knowing what we needed to be doing! But once we got into the heart of the game, we really did need everyone to work on things. Nine of us went and there was something for everyone to contribute towards solving the room There were a lot of different types of components, so that helped make it interesting: electronic parts, physical activities, video clues, audio clues, and old school puzzles. It definitely took skills from the whole team. I'm honestly curious how anyone could do this particular room with a tiny group! There's so much that needs to be worked on during the timeframe. It was challenging but we finally got it (thanks to the cluemaster's help)! We made it with no time to spare! I do have a suggestion: they should have props/signs so people can hold them up when they take pictures in front of the backdrop at the end. I've seen that at other escape rooms. But that's not a big deal. Another small critique is that there are some puzzle pieces that are somewhat worn (particularly around the edges), so it made it a little difficult to match the pieces/patterns and we wasted some time trying to figure out how they fit together. In fact, be 15 mins early if you can, they have games to play while you wait. Location: There is scaffolding, but look for a building with a big "265" and then go to the 8th floor. I went with a group of 7 and we had a freaking blast. Our Game Master Raymi was so cool I wish he could have chillled with us during the game. He explained what to do (and what not to) and was just all around chill. We had two members who were late by a few minutes so we had to get started but they did allow them ONLY cause they were just a few mins late. BE ON TIME YALL. They will call you 15 mins before your session. The puzzle itself was actually pretty tough but we were able to get out with 15 mins to spare with one hint. It was a bit dark and I get it's for ambience but it was kinda tough to see the colors for certain things. It was fun overall! You could finish the puzzlle with 2 people but a group you know is MUCH more fun ;) I'm definitely coming back! $30 in the city for an escape isn't bad compared to other spots. 6 of us did the Escape the Hydeout room for a friend's birthday at the Chrystie street location. I thought the puzzles in this room were pretty tricky and required some outside of the box thinking. You're given some pretty cryptic hints and clues that really sometimes took us a while to figure out. They gave us 3 clues and we used them all haha, but we did end up escaping with time to spare! No spoilers review: This was incredibly fun for both my parents plus the girlfriend and I! Challenging but 100% achievable. Difficulty (5/5): We did the End Of Days B room and it was certainly a brain teaser forcing you to think outside the box! The "game master" Jenna (who provides clues throughout) gave us just enough of a hint to keep moving forward each time. Staff (5/5): Super friendly and welcoming. They offered a 5 min grace period to the group of 2 joining us and communicated it clearly. Luckily the other group arrived within this time. At the end, Raymi took as many photos as we wanted (no background spoilers)! Location (4/5): This is just south of the chaos known as Times Square but really easy to get to via many subway lines. The button for the 8th floor didn't light up so we were afraid the elevator would stop, but it did so all good. TL;DR: Whether through a Groupon or directly from the company this place was the perfect activity for 4 in NY (though up to 8 I believe). Definitely check them out! read more

Excellent! I bought tickets for my sons 18th Birthday for a group of 6 and there was two strangers that also played in our room. It was a very casual and friendly atmosphere. Everyone introduced themselves and got to know each other before entering the room while playing games in the waiting room. The room it's self is very well set up. It's dim and upon entry it doesn't seem like there is much to figure out but as you play the game more and more starts to happen. There were lots of mind puzzles to achieve before the escape and time seemed to fly by. You definitely needed all 8 people's input for completion to assume different tasks. We completed the escape with 45 seconds to spare. Wow. Now I want more. read more

There is a parking garage next door but suggest taking the train to Grand St or Canal St instead. We signed up for the 1 hour, Hydeout challenge (Jekyll and Hyde themed) and finished with 57 sec to spare! OMG SO MUCH FUN! Due to Covid-19, I've done zero fun stuff for a good while, so when I suggested doing this to my favorite couple (who've actually been a part of my quarantine bubble, so while practicing social distancing, we feel the safest in each other's company), they shared my enthusiasm! Raymi was our guide, such a sweetheart who was so encouraging. We only needed 3 hints in the 1hr span and we solved the puzzle with 6 minutes left on the clock! Phew! When we were done, we found out that our room -The Hydeaway- was the hardest of the two with a 25% success rate! So not easy! We also loved having only 3 people in our room, so we weren't thrown off by all the bodies and commotion, and we were able to explore independently and come together with the clues. Definitely recommend not doing The Hydeaway with a group of more than 4, as it's somewhat tight and you can miss a lot or get distracted by the decoys and crazy thunderous score blasting around, particularly if there are a lot of people. We agreed we definitely want to try the other room, the apocalyptic one...maybe next month? Just remember- no cameras or phones in use, or they'll end the game for you, and masks have to stay on. They're always watching, so they'll know if you're taking liberties. As there's no cameras or photo taking allowed, Raymi took a couple pics of us sporting fun props, and emailed them to the email we used for the reservation. A BLAST OF AN EXPERIENCE! Who knew this place is stuck into a local office building in Chinatown among all the Boston/DC bus companies? Sally W. & Rich W. invited me along for an Escape the Room game and for my first time, it was a BLAST! I love stretching the cerebral muscles and this was a great way to spend a couple of hours hanging with a group of friends. It's good if you reserve for a full group of 8 people that you know, just to add more of that fun factor. An extra person is not a big deal. We were mixed in with another group of 4 this time though and locked into the Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde puzzle room. Your objective is to find all the physical clues leaving no rock unturned, solve the puzzles and escape the room in under an hour. What happened to the self-destructing tape recorder? (And what's a tape recorder you ask?) Stop lollygagging and start hauling ass because that time goes by FAST! We had to ask for clues whenever we got bogged down. Panic started to set in at the 10 minute mark when we asked for a few more clues and then the sharpened poisoned spikes started to come down from the ceiling (Just kidding! It wasn't real poison ;) If you scream for "HELP!", words show up on a monitor screen that your host communicates through to prod you in the right direction. When we finally solved the last puzzle and escaped the room, we ran out of there screaming like a bunch of 5 year olds! With 5:41 left on the clock! Oh yeah, and we left everything lying around like a bunch of 5 year olds in daycare before naptime. Just glad we didn't have to clean up the mess and reset everything for the next group. This is addicting and I'm hooked because I love these types of brain games. I'm going to organize a group of people to try the other themed rooms now! They said that they rotate and come up with new themes every few months to keep the game fresh and for you to come back to try new ones. read more

I've only done a few (5-6) escape rooms, but the three that I did at Mission Escape were my favorite. There was a tiny bit of overlap in the puzzles in the two games, but overall the puzzles were sufficiently different that it was enjoyably challenging. I don't really like finding keys just to open locks, so I liked that the majority of the puzzles were the keys themselves. I love their creativity in using placement, setting clues, and decorating the rooms. I especially enjoy the specially made wooden pieces. My only complaint would be that I wish the Jekyll & Hyde room would be better lit; although the darkness created a great ambiance for the escape, it was a little hard to read some of the clues and we actually missed an entire clue because we didn't see it. There are almost always Groupons for Mission Escape; even without the discount, $30 per person is totally reasonable for the quality of these rooms, the setup, and the time of the cluemaster. Can't wait for their new escape room in 2 months :) read more

Of the three Escape-the-Room type of game I played this one is pretty fun! We finished the Mission Escape Game Art Studio within the 60 min period. The Art Studio is a single room game with a lot of items inside the challenge your brain. Best strategy is the bring a group of friend who work well together. Communications is a most for winning! Of the four other places that are running Escape games this place is organized and professionally run. Very nice waiting area with pleasant hosts. read more

You would need to search thoroughly and connect all the dots in order to solve all the puzzles and escape the room. I am not going to disclose all the puzzles and details because it would ruin all the fun. Plus, I'd love to see you suffer and struggle in the same way as we did! Hahaha, j/k. If the game that you played was not challenging enough then you can choose another one with a higher difficulty: level 5 at the same place. We might try this one in the future... The biggest plus is to occupy the whole room/group with people that you know (I believe the max # of ppl in a group is 8). It was my first time playing a room escape, but it was a lot of fun! We booked the whole room, but you can play with strangers if you don't book the whole room. We played End of Days and managed to beat it because our game master Edwin was nice enough to give us an extra 5 minutes. Edwin was awesome! If you are stuck, you can ask for a clue. You get 3 clues, but if you are close they give you hints. Some of puzzles are challenging but not terribly hard. You just have to connect the clues together. read more
