Outstanding first experience at Escapology in Destin. I've been to many escape rooms and franchises and I found this one to be challenging, fun, and well thought out. First, it starts with helpful and fun staff. Shout out to Roy, who got us started, and Amanda who was our game "hostess with the mostest". They both understood the fun factor with this experience and were super helpful in us navigating a very challenging room with just the two of us versus the standard 8. Murder Mansion was every bit as challenging as billed. All the locks worked, everything looked good (not worn down like lesser rooms) and the story made sense. Lots of broken or run down tools and decor. Keypad was broken and that basically gave away what the code was. We'd ask the game master for a hint and it would disappear before we could read it or he'd just give us the answer without letting us try to figure it out ourselves. We asked for help several times and a clue never came through, and then he came in the room and just rudely pointed at the answer on the screen instead of explaining what to do next. We did the moderate challenging one- the submarine but it was definitely the hardest one we've ever done. Compared to one in New Orleans and TN. Way too tough.. I think it should be in the most challenging category. I think for the adult ones the kids shouldn't be $35 a piece when there was nothing at all on their level to do, which I why I left 4 stars. We know it wasn't the kid version but if we pay that price they should be able to help at times. read more

We came with a group of 6 and did the Lost City room and had a great time. We felt this room was a little easy (we finished with 26 mins to spare) and would have been better for a smaller group, maybe 4 people but we still loved the room and had fun. We came here last year while on vacation & decided to play again during this year's trip. (We did Mansion Murder for reference.) We didn't really get the usual welcome when we arrived and I think that since we'd already been there before they assumed we didn't need much fanfare. However, once we were in our room we just stood there wondering if we were going to get the backstory video or what. After a couple minutes of waiting we decided to go ahead and get started and that is when the video suddenly came on. It was just a little disjointed how we were just put in the room without being told to wait for the video. I will say, had we known that some of the features of the room had been damaged and therefore were unusable, we would have picked another room. That being said, the room itself was kind of in disrepair so many times we wondered if things were broken or if it was part of the ambience (i.e. the piano had a huge part that came off that wasn't part of the game.) After solving one clue we all stood there waiting for some sort of "unlock". We tried the clue over and over again with no result so we tried to get the attention of the room master. They replied by giving us a clue for something we hadn't even discovered yet which left us frustrated. Eventually on our own we had to figure out that the clue we'd solved had indeed unlocked something, but there'd been no noise nor had the feature "popped" open...it just barely unlocked so the reveal hadn't been obvious. There were a couple of other damaged/broken features in the room, and at one point the room master had to tell us something had been revealed because again, a reveal feature hadn't been noticeable. We did escape the room and there were a lot of clever clues - we just wish the room had been more functional and that we hadn't been left feeling frustrated simply because something wasn't working well. We have done well over 20 escape rooms so we are familiar with the format & what to expect. We didn't get asked for a team name and there was no leaderboard so we could compare our escape time to others. I got an email after playing saying our team photo was included, but of course it wasn't because they only took a photo using our phones. The location is nice and the lobby has a cool vibe, but we were just expecting more - especially since we'd had a better experience last year. If you are new to escape rooms, have younger kids with you or are just looking for a rainy day activity, I'd definitely recommend. read more

Waiting room: 10/10 Overall: (hopefully just one) horrendous experience To begin this review, the only possible reason I could ever leave a single, measly, minuscule singular star is because of the waiting room. The waiting room was high quality and gave our party false hopes of a quality experience. Also, the hostess? (I believe that would be the appropriate title.) was very nice and welcoming. Now, to the negative. We were greeted by our game master, Thomas. Thomas was the most useless game master I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. We started the room and quickly were on a roll. But inevitably we got stuck. When we asked for a hint, (specifically on the wine puzzle) he gave us the shortest and most futile response deemed possible. And I quote,"You just add the things to the other things on the wine," now it may seem confusing to the inexperienced viewer, but you have to keep in mind that since this is the hardest puzzle, Thomas obviously just wanted us to tap into our godly omniscience and solve the puzzle with,"you just add the things to the other things on the wine." So when this terrible hint ends up being useless, we ask Thomas to re-explain his thinking processes. So he says,"oh it's too long and complex for me to explain so I'll just tell you the answer." Thomas then tells us the exact methodologies that we have been using to solve this puzzle. We eventually get it with zero help from Thomas. For the next few puzzles either we got it ourselves, or the same ordeal would follow regarding Thomas's dreadful hints. Allow me to take a momentary break from bashing Thomas. Lets focus on the puzzles. The puzzles were terrible. I hated every one of them. It's not that they were too difficult, but it was just frustrating and quite boring. There were no transitional clues in between puzzles and there was no clear methodology to go from clue to clue. I also wasn't a big fan of how automatic everything was. There were no keys to unlock the doors to each room etc. This was probably the most infamous of the puzzles being weird, was the photo below. Here, the door revealing the body was opened randomly. The tallot cards that opened the door weren't even positioned on the table when the door opened. There was also the storage boxes that when I lifted one off the shelf the puzzle was completed. A lot of the puzzles had a seemingly random order. Everything also has to be extremely precise which wasted a lot of time. (The train puzzle sensors were within a fraction of a millimeter) If you've made it this far into the review and are searching for a quality escape room for some good old family fun then take a look at https://theescapegame.com/ they have over 30 locations across the U.S and are people who can actually design properly and hire a quality staff. This place was vey low quality. Lots of things in the room were low quality and broken. Our game master named Thomas was giving absolutely no helpful hints. We were slightly off on some puzzles and instead of helping us with the last part of it he told us the very basic first part of it. I asked him how much time was left and Thomas didn't answer. The things were opening for no reason. For example a table needed three cards to be placed in a specific order. We tried every order and it didn't open. A couple minutes later the next door opened while the cards weren't even on the card slots. Overall, bad game master, overpriced, and bad puzzles. The only good thing was the waiting area. read more

We went to Escapology on a rainy day during our vacation. We have been to other escape rooms in our hometown. The atmosphere when you walk in is really neat so we had high hopes. We played the Antidote game. The game itself was decently hard for the 6.5/10 difficulty rating on their website. The reasons for only 3 stars: 1.) When we asked for a clue, we stood there waiting while the gamemaster figured out where we were in the game and what clue to give us. The very first clue we asked for, we had to walk the gamemaster through what we had already done because he had no clue. It was a waste of several minutes and pretty annoying. This happened every time we asked for a clue. 2.) We had at least one lock (that we know of) that had not been put back on from the previous game. The lock was just sitting on top of the cabinet unlocked. We asked the gamemaster to make sure and he confirmed that the lock was supposed to have been on the cabinet. read more

We got into our escape room no problem, we start doing it and got a clue. After about 10 more minutes we decided we needed another clue. We pressed the button as instructed and waited 15 minutes and never received one. They told us the front door unlocked and so we walked out and couldn't find an employee at all. Finally we got one and they told us the system went down and we would get extra time. After another 15 minutes everything started working again so we asked for a clue again and got one that had nothing to do with what we needed. We were so frustrated after being in the escape room for nearly an hour at this point with no help and them freezing our time and restarting it. Camilla at the front desk seemed annoyed that we were even upset and didn't provide much help. We then requested a refund and couldn't get a hold of the manager and we were told to just wait for the manager to call us back, keep in mind we spent $350 so this is no small charge. We thought we were gonna have a fun last day in Destin and we severely let done. Would never recommend this place read more

This place needs to find staff that cares about their jobs. Our game master was a younger guy with curly hair who put us in the room and explained nothing to us. We did the train themed room and to solve one of the clues, you had to put a sequence (left right up down) into a lock. We didn't know that we needed to reset the lock after each attempt (or how to reset it) and ended up wasting 20 minutes messing with this lock that we had the correct combination for all along. We asked for help and our game master could care less. We told him how much time we wasted on the lock and not knowing how to reset it and he didn't care - didn't apologize or say anything. The space itself is beautiful and the games are well thought out but the staff ruins the experience. read more

an absolute trash experience. a young girl who obviously didn't care about her job took us back to the room gave us a VERY unenthusiastic intro then left with no other explanation. the "intro video" that plays after she leaves is beyond boring and way too long. I myself work at an escape room and there are MUCH better ways to help the guests get excited and understand all the objectives. the game itself was alright, one of the locks was reset upside down and almost impossible to adjust, we were not told to keep items in the room we found them or we'd mess the end up (a very important note to tell ppl), and we had to ask girl SEVERAL times for clues and once she answered she seemed to not know where we were in the game flow. once we finished a young boy came and explained the ending to us very quickly with no explanation as to why we had switched game masters. sadly this is the best rated escape room in destin fl. the only attribution I saw fit of this description was the building itself. glad we didn't pay for everyone or i'd be livid. read more

We did "Under Pressure" and managed to escape!! It was very, very challenging. It took every brain cell we had & every hint available to us, but we still made it out in time. Totally awesome feeling!! The waiting area is cool, and definitely gets you in the mindset for the challenge(s) ahead. The escape room itself was well decorated to fit the theme & challenge.
