I called three other veterinary offices and only got voicemail and had to leave messages waiting for a call back. Their prices for vaccinations are also very reasonable--actually cheaper than many other vets and only slightly more than standing in line for an hour at the low-cost clinic on Bonita Road. We got a new puppy a few months ago and tried two different veterinarians prior to trying Escaya. We weren't too pleased with the first two so we gave Escaya a try. We're glad we did! I called several local veterinarians and Escaya had the best prices for vaccinations. Appointments are very easy to schedule and they call you a day before as a reminder. We've been going for years so my review is overdue! Dr Urbina and her team always take such good care of our pups! I can usually get a same day or next day appointment. During this most recent visit, we picked up a probiotic for our Aussie Shepard pup, got allergy shots for our mini-schnauzers and met with Dr Urbina to check our schnauzers tail that's been bothering her. Dr Urbina is well trained, knowledgeable and doesn't pressure us with options like other vets. Their vet techs (we love Breanna) are so caring and helpful too. Other procedures we've had done for our pups: dental cleanings, x-rays, biopsies, and when our schnauzer had pancreatitis (so scary!), we came here to have daytime water drip when we finished at the Emergency vet overnight. Parking- it's street parking but we always find a spot. It's nice to have all the grass because when our pups are nervous, we'll take them around the grassy area before the appointment. After a horrible and exhausting night at an emergency vet where we waited over 3 hours just to be told we might have to wait another 4-5 hours or leave our dog overnight, I called Escaya the next morning--and they were able to fit us in for a same-day appointment. I used to be a client with another local vet that was awarded with high accolades. I switched over to find a better clinic and was welcomed with so much warmth and attentiveness by Dr. Urbina and staff. After visiting several vets, I'm kind of used to being seen quickly and ushered out. But I was taken aback by such a small gesture she did (and she probably didn't even know how much this meant to me!)- she sat on the floor just to *be* with my dog and address my concerns. I usually take my cat to a different vet for about 3 years now. My cat had what seems to be UTI or crystals in her urine. My regular vet was booked, so I tried a different vet, Escaya. It was refreshing because I prefer a smaller clinic over a large busy one. I really like vet tech Brianna's personality. She is warm and friendly, unlike my regular vets lobby personnel and assistants,which are more robotic and not engaging. I am switching to Escaya for both of my Sphynx needs. I brought my dog in for a routine allergy injection Usually takes 5 min tops but this particular time they had her in the back for over 20 min. I asked reception if there was something wrong and if my dog was okay because I was worried. She said they're just waiting for the vet. When they came out with my dog, mind you she weighs 11 pounds, she had a bloody paw The vet explained that the dog ripped her own nail off, that she did it to herself which doesn't make any sense, my dog has been getting this injection for the past 5 years and is great for the administrating process. The vet offered no other explanation. She then tried selling me antibiotics. Never offered to perhaps patch her up or even clean the bloody paw. Offered no resolutions, or at home care either. I declined her oral antibiotics and the vet said if I didn't purchase those antibiotics they would not help me in any way with her paw care The vet and staff never even offered an apology My dog came in for an injection and left without a whole nail, and in immense pain. Needles to say I will never come back again, I will never recommend this place and I hope if you're reading this review, know that I loved coming here for the better part of a year until this incident. New vet for my kitties! Staff was super friendly and mindful I had two kitties so they brought me straight into a room away from any dogs. Clean exam rooms with minimal pet which is nice, animals can get scared when they see pictures of other cats or dogs. Prices are great and definitely will be back. Only thing they could add is treat jars and some calming scent diffusers but definitely not necessary. Highly recommend and will be back. read more

Escaya Vets is a BREATH OF FRESH AIR! We had been going to Otay Pet Vets for years and ended up having a horrible experience where our pup was diagnosed with cancer and a vet that didnt listen to us. We took our pup to Escaya Vets for a second opinion (we did got to an oncologist as well) and Dr Salcido gave Cooper a full examination and didnt find any cancer....turns out he didnt have any cancer after all. I went here for the first time this last weekend for my older cat. He needs his teeth cleaned. The staff made organizing a time really easy and they were able to get me in in a timely manner. We saw Dr Urbina. She is clearly a person who cares deeply about the animals she is providing care to. She was quickly able to put my somewhat nervous cat (and me) at ease for the pre-dental cleaning checkup. Her vet tech was equally competent and quickly able to explain the treatment options, reasonably priced relative to other places I have been. I have taken my dog to see Dr. Urbina for a while now, starting with a dental cleaning and more recently a paw infection. In all our visits, the staff has been very friendly, attentive, and professional. The team at Escaya veterinarians does an excellent job interacting with, and calming, my dog who tends to get very anxious at vet clinics. Dr. Urbina is incredibly knowledgeable and resourceful in identifying and treating issues pertaining to our fur friends. I need to update my previous review with an apology to Dr Urbina for misspelling her name throughout my previous review as (Urbani). Otherwise, everything still stands in my previous review. Our kitten Hunter is now eating like a champ and his vomiting and diarrhea have been gone for at least 7 days. Dr Urbina gave Hunter two Rxs that saved his life: Mirataz an appetite stimulant; and Visbiome an expensive probiotic, but it stopped his diarrhea within 3 days of first dose after suffering with it for 7 days. Ridiculously overpriced!!! I was looking for a new vet closer to home and was willing to pay 10%, 20%, 30% more than what I'm paying now. This place is 100% more than what I'm paying at another vet in San Diego. In some cases over three times the price. Vaccines 2x the price. For a simple blood panel I normally pay $50, they wanted to charge $158. That one fee isn't such a big deal but when you start adding double AND triple the price on every little thing they want to charge, a visit that normally would've costed me $500 ends up being more than $1000. And that's if they don't even find anything wrong with my dog. For a small mass removal they again wanted to charge me an additional appointment fee, which I just paid for to get the quote. $620 for a teeth cleaning while she's already under anesthesia. They tried to oversell me on other stuff too. If I paid for everything they wanted, that was all routine. I would've been charged $2400. If they actually found something else wrong with my dog, God knows how much they would've been charging me. I'll also add that the two office assist staff appeared to be afraid of dogs. I have the sweetest dog in the world and they wouldn't even pet her. If you work at a vet, you should not be afraid of animals. read more
