Nothing like a late night visit to the emergency room for my dog. He was bitten by a rattlesnack and was rushed here. I was just getting off a plane when I got the message, so I wasn't present from the beginning but what I loved about this place was that they were extremely communicative. They called a few times and were super helpful when it came to my questions. They kept him overnight and decided they didn't need to give him the second vile of antibiotics / venom. Services was amazing. Thank you. When you enter, there's not much to look at. There's the front desk, chairs and bathrooms. The examination room is also pretty barren. But when I got a chance to go into the back to see my dog, there were a ton of machines and staff despite it being the overnight shift. I immediately felt better after seeing the amount of machines there to take care of all the sick animals. The overnight staff were phenomenal. Plenty of parking too. My experience with this hospital was extremely disappointing, not only because my dog's condition worsened after the visit, but also because of the unprofessional way the situation was handled. I brought my dog in because he was panting heavily and seemed restless. At that time, he was still active and able to walk and run normally. After the examination, the hospital performed X-rays, blood work, and an ultrasound, and I was charged about $1,700. Despite all of these tests, they said they could not determine what was wrong with him. Even so, they prescribed antibiotics and discharged us. When we returned home, my dog's condition became dramatically worse. He stopped eating and drinking, became extremely lethargic, and within 24 hours he could barely move and was unable to walk on his own. I called the hospital and was told this was not normal, so I brought him back immediately. However, instead of trying to investigate what might have gone wrong, the hospital insisted that I would need to pay again just for bringing my dog back . The veterinarian suggested they could prescribe painkillers if I wanted. I explained that my dog had been walking and active when I first brought him in, and that the only symptom he had was panting. After all the tests and procedures performed at this hospital, he left unable to walk. Yet the staff still could not explain what had happened and continued suggesting additional medications. The most concerning part of this experience was the veterinarian's unprofessional conduct. When I expressed that I did not think it was fair to pay for another recheck under these circumstances, her attitude immediately changed. She insisted that my dog's current condition had nothing to do with their treatment. Feeling frustrated and unheard, I decided to take my dog home and seek another opinion instead of continuing treatment there. Later, my second veterinarian requested my dog's medical report from Escondido Veterinary Emergency. I learned that the report included details of the argument I had with the hospital and quoted my words. Including personal disputes with a pet owner in a medical record is highly unprofessional. Medical reports should document only the patient's medical condition, findings, and treatment. Recording and sharing personal arguments in a professional report can unfairly influence other veterinarians reviewing the case. As of today, Escondido Veterinary Emergency has not yet sent me a copy of this report, despite having paid $1,700 for the tests and procedures. I strongly encourage other pet owners to think carefully before bringing their animals here. read more

Brought my dog here when she got stung by a bee and started having an allergic reaction. This place saw us pretty quickly and was affordable for an emergency vet. The staff were all women and vet nice. I have a huge dog with some reactivity and handling restraint sensitivity and when I let the staff know this, they said that was helpful and she did great with them. My experience with this hospital was extremely disappointing!!!!I would not recommend Escondido Veterinary Emergency to other pet owners!!!! Our beloved cat was taken to Escondido Veterinary Emergency on June 30 after my daughter noticed that she was coughing and having difficulty breathing. By the time we arrived, she appeared stable and was acting normally, although she was very aggressive toward the staff. The veterinarian told us she would need to be sedated in order to perform X-rays and blood work. After the tests, we were told that everything looked normal except for one value that suggested she might have asthma. She was prescribed Prednisolone and Doxycycline for two weeks. The following morning, she had another episode of breathing difficulty, but after I held her, she calmed down. She still had a good appetite and seemed to be doing fairly well that day. However, over the following days, she gradually lost her appetite, stopped jumping onto furniture, and began walking very slowly. We assumed these were side effects of the medications. On the tenth day, she suddenly urinated on the living room floor while crying out in pain. The next day (July 11), we rushed her back to Escondido Veterinary Emergency. We arrived around 9:30 a.m. and were not seen until about 4:15 p.m. We later learned there was only one general veterinarian on duty. We were never advised that our cat might benefit from being transferred to a specialty or emergency hospital with more advanced capabilities. Instead, we waited for nearly seven hours. The veterinarian repeated the blood work, which again showed no significant abnormalities. I was concerned about possible bladder, urinary tract, or heart problems, so additional urine and cardiac tests were performed. We were told the results would not be available until Monday, so we had no choice but to take her home. Late Sunday night, her breathing became extremely rapid--about 90 breaths per minute. We rushed her back to the same emergency hospital because all of her records were already there. The technician who greeted us was impatient and dismissive, barely allowing me to explain what had happened. The veterinarian placed our cat in an oxygen chamber, which helped stabilize her breathing. The veterinarian recommended repeating the X-rays, saying things might have changed over the previous few days. This was our second set of X-rays within ten days, but once again they showed no significant changes. The urine test from Saturday also came back normal. We were then told that the hospital did not have ultrasound available and that it would require an appointment, usually several days later. At that point, the only treatment they could offer was continued oxygen support. When I was asked to sign another bill, I expressed my frustration. We had already paid more than $3,000 for repeated blood tests, repeated X-rays, and other diagnostics, yet we still had no diagnosis and no clear treatment plan. When we first brought our cat in, she was strong enough that she had to be sedated for testing. Now she was critically ill. Instead of showing empathy, the technician responded, "If you don't want to pay, then transfer her." I felt shocked and had no choice but to continue with the recommended care. I was told a veterinarian would call me around 6:00 a.m. After returning home at nearly 3:00 a.m., I waited until almost 8:00 a.m. before receiving the call. I was finally told that my cat needed to be transferred to a specialty hospital in San Marcos. We immediately transferred her there. The difference was obvious: the hospital had specialists, advanced equipment, and a multidisciplinary team. Unfortunately, after both the cardiologist and neurologist evaluated her, they concluded that she was already too weak. They felt that even anesthesia for a CT scan carried a significant risk that she would not survive the procedure. With broken hearts, we made the devastating decision to let her go peacefully. Losing our beloved cat has been one of the most painful experiences of our lives. Based on our experience, I was deeply disappointed with the diagnostic process, the communication, and the overall handling of our cat's case at Escondido Veterinary Emergency. I believe we lost valuable time while undergoing repeated tests that did not provide answers. I cannot say whether earlier access to advanced imaging, such as an ultrasound, would have changed the outcome, but I will always wonder if earlier specialty care might have given her a better chance. This was an incredibly heartbreaking experience, and I hope our story encourages other pet owners to carefully consider whether a facility has the specialists and diagnostic equipment their pet may need in a critical emergency. Extremely disappointed and felt punished for asking about affordable care My husband took our dog here for an injured leg and was quoted a very high price just for an X-ray and splint. He explained that we could not afford their pricing and that we planned to seek care elsewhere, including possibly in Mexico, where veterinary services are often more affordable. Instead of respecting his decision as a pet owner trying to do the best he could financially, this clinic reported him to the Humane Society. We were shocked and distressed. At no point did we refuse care for our dog--my husband simply declined their services due to cost and planned to get treatment elsewhere. Veterinary care is already incredibly expensive, and pet owners should not be threatened or reported for seeking alternative, affordable options. This experience felt punitive and unnecessary, and it caused a great deal of stress during an already difficult situation. We've (unfortunately) been to this urgent care twice since last October. Our first visit, my Border Collie was bitten by a Great Dane and needed stitches. The staff was so kind and caring especially through my fear as the bite was directly under his eye. Surgery, medication, aftercare, etc. was so affordable. They charged us the highest amount (close to $950) but informed us we would be reimbursed almost half of it back since the surgery and all of the intricacies went smoothly. Essentially, it was a "worst case scenario" fund, and we were given our money back within the same week. When his stitches slipped, we were able to go back and get staples put in place free of charge. Our second visit was this past week when our dog developed pink eye. We arrived there at about 8am, and we were out the door with medication by 9am. The doctor and staff was so sweet and efficient. I understand urgent care wait can be around 3-4 hours, so we went in with that expectation and were pleasantly surprised. Love this place so much! read more

My 11 year old dog suddenly had a health crisis, went from zero symptoms to critical illness in a few minutes when an undiagnosed tumor ruptured. Animal Urgent Care took immediate steps to stabilize him, and allowed me to visit with him during that process, while calmly explaining what happened, next steps, and specialist options. They gave me time to process what was happening, in an incredibly kind and empathetic manner from EVERY staff member. I had to make the unbelievably hard choice that humane euthanasia was the correct choice, and they gave me time for my husband to arrive so we could say goodbye to our much-loved pet without hesitation. While waiting, the staff went through their lunches to give my dog options for one last meal - fettuccine, orange chicken, beef, and a donut (which shows the deep level of care they have for their patients). This review is a little overdue. We had to call Animal Urgent Care to unfortunately make one of the hardest decisions in our life to put down one of our kitty cats. Thankfully, the vet veterinarian staff at Animal Urgent Care knew the kitty we had to bring in. I live in the La Mesa area. We had to drive to Escondido. My aunt and I got in the car and we got up there quick Animal Urgent Care already had a room ready for us and Dr. Scott de Lorenzo helped us out by making the call. We did not want to make I putting down one of our kitty cats. All the staff there was great. We came to the front desk and they had a little Wright shining in honor of our kitty cat one of the vet techs. I cannot remember her name right now, even tried to make a heart out of our kitty cats fur the care quality with Animal Urgent Care is great. I have used the services of AUC many occasions over the years for my pets. They always are wonderful and very caring and friendly. I would never go elsewhere for animal urgent care services! A couple of weeks ago, I brought my 1.5 year old pug in because he collapsed due to anaphylactic shock from ingestion of a bee. The vet took him and treated him with multiple therapies to try to get him to respond and recover. Dr Alexandra went above and beyond the call of duty, and we were so very grateful for her diligence and care for our little guy. Dr. De Lorenzo also was wonderful in his care and did all that he could for our dog. Unfortunately, our boy passed away from a severe case of anaphylactic shock. You can tell everyone that works here genuinely care for animals. My dog had surgery here about 3 years ago to remove fluid in her chest and had a successful outcome/quick recovery. This past week I had my same dog, who was now elderly and really struggling, seen by Scott diLorenzo. We ran tests and he covered all of the possible issues going on with my dog, along with all of the different options. Ultimately I decided her quality of life wouldn't be good while she was clearly not a well dog, and putting her down was the best decision for her.
