Dr. Jones is really great at what she does. My cat came in with very general severe symptoms and she was able to catch a number of things that I had no idea about. She prescribed a few of medications to get her treated and now her personality has come back. I am so thankful. read more

Today, May 2, 2025 marks the 1-year anniversary of my beloved Chief's passing. A year ago in March, the last effort to save his life was done by Dr. Diana Jones and her medical team at ER4PETS. And despite Chief overcoming all other illnesses and injuries throughout his life, he unfortunately couldn't overcome the only fight that he had with the ravages of cancer. Five weeks after Dr. Jones' operation on him, I had to take Chief to his lifelong health caretakers at Rancho Mesa Animal Hospital to give him peace. ER4PETS is a 10-mile drive from my home. Three miles away from me, however, is a much larger, corporate-run, emergency animal hospital. Although it's closer, I knew its prices would be more expensive than ER4PETS. I only wish I had known about that hospital much sooner. It's a small emergency animal hospital, intimate in its setting. If you're not focused in looking for it while you're driving, you'll pass it. The crowd in the hospital has been sparse during my visits while it had Chief under its care. My arrivals into the hospital have been greeted much more quickly than even groomers' shops that I've taken Chief to. There was even a time when my phone call to the hospital was answered by Dr. Jones herself. She's highly skilled. Thinking back at my conversations with her when I brought her Chief, I now know that her experience saw what I didn't about Chief's condition before she even operated on him: that Chief is at the end of his life. Before the operation from my insistence, I guess I did not truly listen to Dr. Jones' euphemistic, yet gentle suggestion for Chief. I still miss him dearly. This is the best emergency vet service in San Diego. Dr Jones has cared for all of my dogs over the yrs. Beau, who met a rattlesnake and lost. He got the rattlesnack antidote and recovered. Then he had seizures and was able to be managed on meds. Yrs later got pneumonia and was able to recover with icu care and antibiotics. Then there was Boston who ate fibrous grass while off leash and wouldn't eat for a week, but finally able to recover with her help. Sully, who needed eye surgery with his eyelashes scraping his eyes. All my dogs were treated by her and recovered beautifully. She runs this practice and it is far more affordable than all other vets across SD. Any emergency care is best managed at Dr Jones' facility. She and her staff are the best! read more

Dr Jones and her staff are amazing. I brought in my very sick dog to her who had pancreatitis. It broke my heart to see him feeling so sick. After tests and treatment, I was returned my happy healthy Teddy again. He stayed with them for two days and I followed the Dr's advice and I am so happy that I did. Our fur babies are so precious. Dr Jones is the best in the San Diego area! I drove 30 min to bring Teddy to them because I have only heard fabulous things about the ER hospital. Took my dog here as it was extremely close to home and my dog was showing signs of anaphylaxis. Handy was so wonderful and took my information over the phone so my pup could be seen faster once we arrived. They were ready and waiting for us and took us to a room immediately. Handy was so thorough with her notes and had a great demeanor with my shy pittie. She was also very patient going over the treatment plan with me and making sure all my questions were answered and prices were transparent. Dr. Jones was very knowledgeable and showed great care and concern for my dog. She was able to get her stable until we could get an appointment at the vet and has continued to check up on her since. While the physician knows what she is doing health related, her delivery needs improvement. She comes off condescending and cold. I also didn't appreciate when I told the tech over the phone my dog had passed that she said sorry, then sorry again with a giggle. She obviously doesn't know how to converse with empathy and deliver appropriately. She may be someone who can't cope and laughing is a device for that, either way she needs some work in that department. While I appreciate the aid my pet received, I think this facility needs employees with empathy, or overall better personable skills. Thx. read more

Our pup had a swollen red bump on his leg and was limping for a few days. We took him to his regular vet for an "emergency" visit where we were charged over $200 dollars for essentially nothing, and quoted ~$1000 for an exploratory surgery on the area to further determine treatment. We declined because we weren't confident in their ability to resolve the issue, and I was hesitant to put him under. Luckily, the next day we ran into a neighbor who strongly recommended ER4Pets and we are so glad we took her advice. We were able to get our boy in very quickly and Dr. Jones assured us he had a classic case of foxtails. The service quote was initially less than half of what our vet provided. But the best part was that because our pup was calm and willing, Dr. Jones was able to operate on him without putting him under, reducing cost even further. In a few quick hours, the foxtail was out and we got our pup back. We are very grateful to Dr. Jones and her team for the kind care they provided. This is definitely where we will go for any future emergency issues. TLDR: quick service, VERY reasonable cost, experienced vet who is also a surgeon. read more

**Update:** Due to Dr. Jones's lies, I've included a copy of the phone record here showing that Dr. Jones did not call us after we left the office that first evening. I spoke to her on the phone before we left and she never called again until the following evening. She continues to lie and change her story multiple times. She claims that posting a review here and at the BBB is "harassing" her. Thats fine. You judge for yourself if this is a woman you want treating your pet. The reviews here all tell a similar story. Do not take your pet here Dr. Jones is unprofessional, irresponsible, and will not be fair in your dealings with her. She's also the only emergency doctor at this clinic and it purports to be open 24/7. They are never busy which should tell you something. I called at about 8:45pm on Dec 20, 2023 when my dog was ill. I had tried several clinics and none could see us. ER4Pets offered to see us if we could be there within 40-60min. We went straight there. My dog, Ellie, was evaluated by Dr. Jones in the back room and I was presented with a treatment plan which included xrays, blood work, a urine test, the administration of a couple of medications, and admittance to the hospital overnight to for surveillance and iv fluids. A total of $1,480. I spoke with Dr. Jones on the phone and she promised to keep me in the loop. I hesitantly left Ellie in her care. Fast forward the next morning, I had heard nothing. I called at 7am and they told me "no news is good news" and couldn't provide any updates about the results of the xrays etc. They advised I come to pick Ellie up as planned at 10am. When I arrived, I asked about the results of the tests. They could provide me NO information. They indicated that Dr. Jones was not in the building (to be fair she did have COVID) and that she had not completed the paperwork and medical records for Ellie so they could not give me any further information. I was frustrated and was simply sent home with a "certificate of bravery" and a can of wet doc food. I insisted that I be sent her medical records and that the doctor call me immediately. I didn't know how to care for Ellie or if I should continue the previous medication given the results of the test. I called another vet clinic who called and requested the vet records so they could help me interpret them. They also couldn't get the records. Finally at 2:34pm I recieved a copy of Ellie's record which included brilliant diagnostic insight such as "xrays revealed ....[blank]", "treated with ....[blank]" (see screenshot). At 7:51pm on the 22nd I sent Dr. Jones an email request a partial refund due to incomplete care. I'm not a medical doctor. I can't interpret the results of bloodwork or look at xrays. The medical record she sent was incomplete. Part of what you pay for when taking your dog to the hospital is the tests, but its also the interpretation of those tests. Dr. Jones failed to provide that. After sending that email, at approximately 9-9:30pm on the 22nd Dr. Jones called me and explained the results. But at this point it was too late - I had already paid another vet to provide a treatment plan for Ellie. To discharge a dog without a medical record is ILLEGAL in the state of California and I fully plan to report her to the board of Veterinary Medicine. I wanted to compromise and pay 50% of the bill. Dr. Jones would admit no wrongdoing and refused to negotiate with me. I explained that I would take this issue up with American Express if she refused to deal with me and I did (and won). In January 2024 she contacted us seeking payment for the bill. We again tried to reason with her and she told us "I do not owe you $740.26." Sure but we also don't owe you $1,480. We paid the bill but are seeking to take this issue up with the medical board in California and have also filed complaints with the BBB and posted the issue to sites like this. I would caution against engaging with Dr. Jones. I found her to be unscrupulous, dishonest, and fully unwilling to acknowledge any mistakes on the part of her and her staff. I would like to express my concerns regarding my recent experience at the facility. I had a conversation about picking up my dog and was advised to arrive between 10 and 11 PM. However, I later learned that an email was supposedly sent at 3:40 AM regarding the pickup time, which I did not receive. When I called at 6:30 PM to inquire about my dog's status, since I didn't hear from them all day. I decided to call the facility. I was once instructed to pick her up at the previously mentioned time. Additionally, I was not informed of an unexpected charge exceeding $300 + which I believe could have been avoided, especially since I only live five minutes away. Had I known about these issues with communication regarding charges, I would never have taken my dog to this facility. This was the worst experience I've ever had at an emergency care center. I strongly advise staying away from this place! I have just read the other reviews and they were charged extra too without notice. This is so unethical!! You guys should really be more honest since there are similar reviews regarding the same issue read more

Don't bring your pet here! I brought my dog here for impacted glands on a Saturday afternoon. Dr. Jones wanted to do a $2,400.00 surgery on my dog prior to trying to express his glands. When they finally expressed the glands they realized my dog had a minor infection. Dr. Jones wouldn't give me antibiotics without doing blood work. Shocker more money for her. I explained that I have an appointment with my vet on Monday and Dr. Jones still wouldn't give me the antibiotics without blood work. I had to pay for blood work just to ensure the infection wouldn't get worse and receive the antibiotics. This place is a freaking joke. I sat in a room for over an hour without anyone checking on me. The waiting room was empty for most of my visit. That should have been a clue for me. The glands cost $23.00 to have them expressed, no need for the $2,400.00 surgery. I'm writing this while I wait in a room waiting for my dog. I wish I would have checked this clinics rating on BBB. It's a "C" if you are wondering. Blood work came back NORMAL. That was a waste of $100ish to get the antibiotics my dog needed to prevent the minor infection from getting worse. Updated after Dr. Jones response - He was never referred by another vet ER regarding an abscess that's a complete lie. I called that ER, they stated they were full and could not see him. They stated he should be seen by a vet in case there is an abscess. They gave me three to four options. I came to you, they didn't send me your way. You are correct Dr. Jones, you did talk me (4) times in the exam room. (3) of those times came after I wrote the original comment and declined the surgery. I see you didn't deny offering surgery PRIOR to trying to express his glands. Obviously I recognized it was an issue. I drove 35 minutes to get to you since all the ER vets were overwhelmed yesterday near my home. I also think the "cheaper treatment" allows me to get a second opinion from our vet. A clinic I've had a relationship with for years, unlike the doctor who talked to me "four times in exam room 4". Anal glands can be expressed for $20 at most vet clinics. I was willing to pay you $120 for the visit to your ER, $23 for the glands to be expressed, and at the end $356.00 to get his glands expressed. So at the end of the day, the "cheaper treatment" for my pet was the right call at that time for us. Second opinions sometimes just make sense. We will agree to disagree. I find it odd that you had time to send a response to me since you were so busy, but thank you. I really enjoyed your line about the white board. I'm sorry you are unable to use your words well enough to engage your clients. I'm willing to bet you are extremely smart, but that doesn't always mean you are able to communicate well. I took my cat here in August 2021. I feel bad that I never left a review until now. She's literally alive because of ER4PETS so thank you to everyone on staff. I should probably thank Hailee Serafin specifically for her work on my cat. It's rare for a female cat to get a urinary infection, and even rare for this condition to go on for weeks. ( without death ) They kept her overnight on an IV for a day or two but once home I was able to feed her the antibiotic she needed every day until better. This place is okay. We came because our dog maggie was yelping in pain due to her neck and we did not know what was wrong. Vet tech was slightly cold at first but overall ended up being great. The doctor was where I had issue. She was very cold and seemed to not want to be there. My usual vet is always warm and welcoming from the doctors to the receptionists. I wouldn't come here again but I am thankful this place was open new year's day to see her. Just got an overall negative vibe from the place. We were also told they couldn't give her any pain meds before they do blood work but then went back on it after denying their very hefty price tag of unnecessary work. Very odd when we didn't come in for anything that blood work would be needed for. Edit after response from doctor: I am aware that kidney, liver, and heart failure take precedence, but it was not the reason for coming in. We just wanted to make sure she didn't have anything seriously wrong with her neck or head as when we came in she was not moving at all. Thankfully after the visit her pain had gone away. This place is great! After being turned down by other Emergency places due to capacity, Petsurg took my baby in. He had an issue with his paw which was getting worse by the hours which caused him to whine in pain. They were quick with response and said I was able to come as soon as possible. They examined him and took him in for surgery. The walls are thin, but all you could hear is how sweet and kind they were being with him. They sent us home for a few hours while they were doing the procedure and were quick to let us know when he was done. If we ever have an emergency we will come here! We lost our little Veronika due to brain inflammation that just was not stabilized at no fault of this ER or the neurology team at another hospital that we took her to after her night with ER4PETS. I thought the staff and Dr. Jones were very knowledgeable and ready to help try. Veronika did not respond to medicine and passed away a few days later. When we took her back, Dr. Jones did something very touching when she clipped a piece of her cute black hairs from her ear tips and put them in a little vial for us. took my cat in thinking she had a unitary infection. well the doctor was rude and couldn't explain the situation to me so her assistant had to. they kept her for about 4 hours waiting for her to pee. finally they sent me home with 2 medications, next day they had lab results so I was to pickup another medication. so now the cat is on 3 meds next morning the cat was crying, I took her to Poway Urgent Care only to find out my cat was constipated WOW. Dr. Jones saved my dogs life. I have a 16year-old chihuahua mix named Moose. A few years ago, Moose developed hemolytic anemia and almost died. His body was rapidly destroying his red blood cells, and he had hours to live. Dr. Jones diagnosed him correctly and gave him a blood transfusion and meds. She saved his life. A few weeks ago, Moose developed an eye ulcer. Though the eye doctor tried to save his eye, it ruptured, and the eye had to be removed. The eye Dr. could not do the surgery for 4 days, and I couldn't let him wait that long with a ruptured eyeball. I called Dr. Jones and she was able to do the surgery the same evening, at about half the cost, the eye Dr. quoted. read more

From Gigi the Maltipoo: This was my second time coming to ER4PETS! I'm a bit known around here unfortunately. =/ This time around, something was not right with my insides! I threw up 4x total this week. I also wasn't my usual self yesterday morning (Saturday). My hooman took me to ER4Pets since she was so worried! The Vet Tech checked me and my hooman in, took my vitals and did an assessment on me. The doctor then came out and told my hooman I would have to stay for at least 24 hours so they can run some tests on me and perform an x-ray and if need be... surgery. My hooman said, "okay" and was glad she kept my pet insurance for times like these - she only wants the best for me! Had my mommy NOT took me in to ER4Pets, I would have had been super close to having pancreatitus. BUT.. during my 24 hour stay, I felt comfortable and safe -- thanks to Dr. Jones and Dr. Suao (sorry if it's spelled incorrectly) & their staff! They always communicate and give amazing updates to my mommy! I went home today with some medication and low-fat food I need to be on. Best part is, I gots a Certificate of Bravery! Mommy was so proud of me & that I was also a very good girl. From Gigi's mommy: I am always so happy with ER4PETS because the doctors and vet tech's are always so professional. They answer all my questions, go through the itemization of fees pretty well and also work with you if it's something you feel is not needed or if it doesn't work within your budget BUT they also are upfront with everything which I appreciate. We also get checked in super fast and taken care of. No place is ever perfect though and the one con I can think of about ER4PETS is pricing on stuff is pretty high here. Overall, we are happy with how they have taken care of Gigi and love how accommodating and friendly staff is. I have no problem giving credit where it's due and yes, you did take over $1200 worth of tests and spoke to me that it was likely she has pancreatic issue but you allegedly wouldn't know unless the bloodwork was completed. So obviously I said "yes 'please do whatever it takes" . And then she is behind closed doors. Now back to the matter at hand: it's simply just unprofessional and unethical that one of your staff told me I would be getting a call once everything was completed to at which point I would come pick her up! Tick tock tick tock.. So now it's about 4pm. I'm freaking out. I call your establishment to ASK what was going on and if she was OK since I hadn't heard from a soul. I'm relieved to hear she's fine but then a bit frustrated nobody told me and I'm running around discombobulated all day worried about my baby girl. So now I'm rushing from Ocean Beach up to. I don't even know where your place is really far away Solano Beach? I don't know. And why? Because I don't want her to be left there any longer than she already had been . In addition, when I spoke with another lady on the phone cause I called a second time she told me that I would not be charged for an overnight stay since my tardiness was due to your establishment not communicating what was happening. Next point; Aside from the extra charge, it upsets me that my 11 year old MORKIE was left in a cage for--heck I don't even know how long . Does that make sense? Seems the problem you have is communication internally, however that is on you--- and full disclosure, you're own staff agreed with me it wasn't right and apologized for telling me over the phone the fee would be waved. One assistant t I wouldn't be charged. To sum this up--. I have no doubt you are a great veterinarian. I appreciate your help. However, I strongly feel that you need to fix your internal Order of action and assign certain people to their jobs to pass along information in a pragmatic manner. It's tough times out there and did try and charge somebody and additional Guap of money because of one hour is very petty and very sad. A phone call. This practice had performed a urethrastomy on my chihuahua and botched it so bad that has caused nothing but bleeding for over the last year. I tried working with the office and doctor and she refuses to roger up on helping me or my pet. It's terrible that they can hack your pet up, then charge you thousands of dollars and send you on your way. Read the other reviews as it's a huge trend in which she fights yelp to have the reviews removed. Don't be a victim. Look elsewhere. Imagine all the reviews you do not see. read more

Everytime I have called this place they are not excepting patients. Can someone please tell me how a animal hospital four times I have called don't have sufficient doctors or staff to see your pet. Do you have to pick a lottery number in Hope's of winning to get in to see your sick animal? They don't care how sick your animal may be they just turn you away. Is this place for real? We were sent here after a day of back and forth between vets for our cat who had a foreign body blockage. The service was amazing. We got there at about 8pm and there was no wait the staff got us right into a room and Dr.Jones was helping us within minutes. She did surgery to remove the pieces of plastic from our cats intestine. We were able to pick him up the next night & she continues to call and email to make sure he's still doing well. This review is several months overdue but this place is a 24-hour sanctuary! I'm so grateful that one of the other hospitals that I called had recommended this place as it seemed impossible to get my kitty checked out ASAP that night. My fur baby was struggling to urinate and it put me in a lot of distress knowing that he was in so much pain so I was a full-on mess! Right when I called, Mercedes was sincere and comforting as she listed all the possible problems it could've been as well as the solutions they would take to fix it. When I got there in person, there was very little wait time and I was greeted by Mercedes with a cute little puppy in her arms. I have to admit I was a little hesitant in leaving him overnight for a urinalysis due to the price but it was the only way they could diagnose & help him. For the record, animal/pet care is expensive no matter where you go and the price they were asking for was super reasonable, it was the fact that I'm just another broke pet owner without pet insurance but I did what had to be done & made the best decision to trust them! Turns out that struvite crystals were preventing my baby from peeing, kind of similar to bladder stones. Luckily, Dr. Jones was able to flush them all out. She also gave him a certificate of bravery (sooo cute), some meds & antibiotics for the healing process, as well as prescribed dry & wet food for his new diet. DO NOT GO HERE!! The alleged "Dr" is absolutely crazy and irrational. I brought my sweet Savannah in on a late night visit and was quoted over $1000 worth of "urgent" medical expenses and the doctor claiming my pet was on the verge of death if we didn't complete these things immediately. When we declined and said we wanted to go elsewhere the Dr lost her mind. Pretty sure she's using the pets meds in the back. Our regular vet said none of what she reported was actually true and we paid only $178 there. My sweet baby is healthy and happy now!! Edit: The owner wrote back saying I was never a client there- obviously I've omitted all identifiable info in my story and my proof because she's so nutty, but I've added a photo of my invoice to prove my pet indeed was there. read more

Last weekend Dr Jones and the vet techs at ER4PETS saved my best friend from certain death after being poisoned by the toxic algae waters at Lake Henshaw. I owe them my dearest thanks for such incredible care and treatment as if he was their own dog. Especially the vet tech (can not remember her name but she has 7 of her own dogs!) whom was so sweet to my boy. My fur son means THE WORLD to me and I will never go to another ER vet besides ER4PETS. They saved my kitten's life after she consumed a toxin. I am ever grateful for the team at ER4Pets. I called another local ER vet who, instead of taking her in, made me call animal poison control. When I called ER4Pets, they confirmed that what she ate was toxic and said to bring her over asap. Upon arrival they immediately started treating her. They literally saved her life. They even gave her a sweet little certificate for her bravery in intensive care. They also do medical boarding for a very reasonable price, and will administer all the necessary medicines while monitoring their health and progress. They let me visit during her stay, and were always available to give me an update when I called. It's been over 6 months since this happened and our girl is thriving. They informed us every step of the way from admission to discharge. + Transparent Prices. Of course, emergency vet care is expensive. However, they were transparent on the visit costs. CONS + Treatment and advocacy. (They did not provide the different treatment plans. I am a healthcare professional and familiar with the treatment plan. When I advocated for my dog's treatment plan to include bloodwork, they immediately verbalized about the pricing. Which at the time was not my concern. You have to advocate what you want for your animal.) + Prescription Expiration Concern. Vet prescribed Flagyl for 7 days. However, the label stated that medication is to expire in 2 days. When we addressed it, they stated it is a typo error on their part. Overall, we were satisfied with our pup's emergency visit. read more

I cant say enough about how grateful I am to Dr. Jones and the staff (Kimberly and Amber) at ER4PETS. We contacted them late in the evening, coming from another facility that had misquoted a surgery rate for our dog and upped the price by several thousand dollars after having us sit there all evening, telling us it was urgent that we agree to the price asap in order to save our dogs life. When we couldn't afford the 12000 price tag (that had jumped from 5,000 throughout the evening) they suddenly told us the surgery could probably wait. They then wouldn't give us referrals. Thankfully we were able to make several other calls to multiple agencies, from the parking lot, and eventually we were pointed toward ER4PETS and Dr. Jones. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Diana Jones and ER4PETS. The ER4PETS team members Kimberly and Amber were instantly so compassionate, and so kind to us. Kimberly was our first point of contact and she encouraged us to just get there asap and trust that Dr. Jones would do the right thing for our dog if at all possible.   Amber worked with us once we got there, getting our information, sharing every detail of potential pricing that might come up, welcoming our dog, and being so empathetic with us and so reassuring. Dr. Jones at ER4PETS (board certified) performed surgery THAT night. Successfully. My dogs tumor and damaged have been entirely removed and will be sent to pathology for assessment for cancer. She kept our dog last night, tonight (& will possibly tomorrow night) for several thousand dollars LESS than we had been quoted earlier - all while communicating  exactly what we were being charged for, and what she would & wouldn't do in the event of various aspects of surgery process.   We are SO grateful for this place and these people, and so relieved our dog made it through. We found a vet and team who had a heart for our dog & for us.  If they'd said they couldn't help us, we would've accepted it. They made it clear there were no guarantees, and I appreciate that because we had realistic expectations and they did it gently and with compassion. If they had turned us away, or charged us any amount of money, I would have trusted it. The feeling of this place was RADICALLY different than other places we had been to and been in contact with. Thank you SO MUCH Dr. Jones, Kimberly and Amber. We will never ever forget you and your kindness to us on what was an incredibly painful and scary time in our lives. read more

Took our large golden ret. there to get an emergency surgery in the middle of the night and they came through. Only complaint was we know what was wrong with her initially and just wanted xrays, the doc. wanted to run a full panel of tests initially costing X-amount. We refused and once we found the blockage issues going on in her stomach we had no choice to but have them operate on her. This process is where I give them kudos, good follow ups and ended up going the extra distance to extract the remaining blockage in the colon since she wasn't passing it. I'd consider bringing her back to them should another emergency issue take place with her. read more
