    Incomplete medical record
    Mandy R.

**Update:** Due to Dr. Jones's lies, I've included a copy of the phone record here showing that Dr. Jones did not call us after we left the office that first evening. I spoke to her on the phone before we left and she never called again until the following evening. She continues to lie and change her story multiple times. She claims that posting a review here and at the BBB is "harassing" her. Thats fine. You judge for yourself if this is a woman you want treating your pet. The reviews here all tell a similar story. Do not take your pet here Dr. Jones is unprofessional, irresponsible, and will not be fair in your dealings with her. She's also the only emergency doctor at this clinic and it purports to be open 24/7. They are never busy which should tell you something. I called at about 8:45pm on Dec 20, 2023 when my dog was ill. I had tried several clinics and none could see us. ER4Pets offered to see us if we could be there within 40-60min. We went straight there. My dog, Ellie, was evaluated by Dr. Jones in the back room and I was presented with a treatment plan which included xrays, blood work, a urine test, the administration of a couple of medications, and admittance to the hospital overnight to for surveillance and iv fluids. A total of $1,480. I spoke with Dr. Jones on the phone and she promised to keep me in the loop. I hesitantly left Ellie in her care. Fast forward the next morning, I had heard nothing. I called at 7am and they told me "no news is good news" and couldn't provide any updates about the results of the xrays etc. They advised I come to pick Ellie up as planned at 10am. When I arrived, I asked about the results of the tests. They could provide me NO information. They indicated that Dr. Jones was not in the building (to be fair she did have COVID) and that she had not completed the paperwork and medical records for Ellie so they could not give me any further information. I was frustrated and was simply sent home with a "certificate of bravery" and a can of wet doc food. I insisted that I be sent her medical records and that the doctor call me immediately. I didn't know how to care for Ellie or if I should continue the previous medication given the results of the test. I called another vet clinic who called and requested the vet records so they could help me interpret them. They also couldn't get the records. Finally at 2:34pm I recieved a copy of Ellie's record which included brilliant diagnostic insight such as "xrays revealed ....[blank]", "treated with ....[blank]" (see screenshot). At 7:51pm on the 22nd I sent Dr. Jones an email request a partial refund due to incomplete care. I'm not a medical doctor. I can't interpret the results of bloodwork or look at xrays. The medical record she sent was incomplete. Part of what you pay for when taking your dog to the hospital is the tests, but its also the interpretation of those tests. Dr. Jones failed to provide that. After sending that email, at approximately 9-9:30pm on the 22nd Dr. Jones called me and explained the results. But at this point it was too late - I had already paid another vet to provide a treatment plan for Ellie. To discharge a dog without a medical record is ILLEGAL in the state of California and I fully plan to report her to the board of Veterinary Medicine. I wanted to compromise and pay 50% of the bill. Dr. Jones would admit no wrongdoing and refused to negotiate with me. I explained that I would take this issue up with American Express if she refused to deal with me and I did (and won). In January 2024 she contacted us seeking payment for the bill. We again tried to reason with her and she told us "I do not owe you $740.26." Sure but we also don't owe you $1,480. We paid the bill but are seeking to take this issue up with the medical board in California and have also filed complaints with the BBB and posted the issue to sites like this. I would caution against engaging with Dr. Jones. I found her to be unscrupulous, dishonest, and fully unwilling to acknowledge any mistakes on the part of her and her staff. She clearly has disputes like this frequently. Dr. Jones, I'm sorry its come to this. I'm happy to talk if you would like to discuss this further, you know how to reach me.

We should all have at least one peaceful moment in life that looks like this.

I took my cat here in August 2021. I feel bad that I never left a review until now. She's literally alive because of ER4PETS so thank you to everyone on staff. I should probably thank Hailee Serafin specifically for her work on my cat. It's rare for a female cat to get a urinary infection, and even rare for this condition to go on for weeks. ( without death ) They kept her overnight on an IV for a day or two but once home I was able to feed her the antibiotic she needed every day until better. I appreciate the certificate they give you after the stay.

This place is great! After being turned down by other Emergency places due to capacity, Petsurg took my baby in. He had an issue with his paw which was getting worse by the hours which caused him to whine in pain. They were quick with response and said I was able to come as soon as possible. They examined him and took him in for surgery. The walls are thin, but all you could hear is how sweet and kind they were being with him. They sent us home for a few hours while they were doing the procedure and were quick to let us know when he was done. If we ever have an emergency we will come here! We thank everyone for that night and are so grateful.

So thankful for this place and the people that work here. Our girl had a suspected pyometra and needed emergency surgery. Another ER spot quoted us double what the cost here was and the operation would've had to wait until the next morning. This was a life threatening emergency and I'm glad I didn't feel taken advantage of in this vulnerable situation. Dr. Jones was clear and straight forward with what was going to be needed. We left Xara in her care for the surgery overnight and got her back about 24 hours later. I'd feel confident in bringing any of our babies here again.

We lost our little Veronika due to brain inflammation that just was not stabilized at no fault of this ER or the neurology team at another hospital that we took her to after her night with ER4PETS. I thought the staff and Dr. Jones were very knowledgeable and ready to help try. Veronika did not respond to medicine and passed away a few days later. When we took her back, Dr. Jones did something very touching when she clipped a piece of her cute black hairs from her ear tips and put them in a little vial for us. I didn't ask her to do that and it was really nice. Thanks for trying so hard to help her.

Thanks to the dedication of the veterinarians and staff, my dog has recovered and is back to being much better. He was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, and they provided prompt testing and treatment without any wait. The estimate was clear, and everyone on the staff was very kind. They even issued a cute certificate!

How could you not love this 3rd photo of Gigi and her certificate? CUTIE PATOOTIE!

We drove there at 1am in the rain and had high hopes she would pull through, but the X-ray showed a terminal issue and the outcome was inevitable. We appreciate the compassion and professionalism of the staff, especially so late at night. Would highly recommend. My only complaints: 1) No airflow in the two rooms off to the side. Not so bad if you're only in there for 15 min but after an hour, you have to open the door just to breathe. 2) The TV in the lobby is too loud. The people working the counter can hear YOU through the glass partition, but are not aware that your ears are competing with the TV just to hear what they're saying back at you. Another customer came in just after us with a dog whose eye had popped out of the socket. :-( They also had difficulty hearing anything from the counter staff thanks to that TV. Maybe a nice, quiet video loop of relaxing/calming scenery, flowing water, etc.? I can't hear over David Attenborough's voice and that's saying a lot since he's a fairly soft-spoken guy.

When the staff spoke with us, his response was dismissive and showed no compassion. He even asked if bloody diarrhea was our only concern, despite us clearly explaining how serious her symptoms were. When I described Peanut's symptoms to the front desk staff, she immediately tried to assume it was a seizure, even though that was never part of her symptoms. After 45 minutes of waiting, the staff told us the doctor was ready and asked us to hand over Peanut. We were confused as to why we couldn't be present for the initial exam, but we complied. Another 30 minutes passed, and when we asked for an update, we were told the doctor was with another patient and Peanut was "next." Then Peanut vomited blood again, so she was taken back immediately and again we were told she was next. We waited another hour, and by this time it was 12:30 AM with still no care provided. At that point, we were frustrated and concerned for her safety, so we decided to leave and find another urgent care. We found WAG Animal ER, only 8 minutes away, with the same $100 exam fee and no wait. The difference was night and day. The staff there was kind, compassionate, and professional. Peanut was seen by a doctor within 5 minutes. And the Dr even called us 3 days later to check on her status.

The VEG Mission Valley location is just across the parking lot from Mimi's Cafe and was super easy to find. We walked in and someone immediately came over to triage Molly before it was the doctor's turn to give her a full exam. Dr. Bronstein was awesome and explained everything in great detail. While I was waiting for Molly's treatment plan, an emergency came in and it was all hands on deck to help the dog out. Everyone ran over to help and not one person working there complained. I could tell that they really care about animals. When the doctor was finished, he came over and apologized for the wait and I said not to worry about it since that was a priority issue. He gave me the treatment plan which I approved and it was just a short amount of time until I got the prescriptions and receipt/medical notes (for insurance) and I was out the door. I had to bring my guinea pig in for respiratory distress. They put him on oxygen and kept me posted so I wasn't "just waiting".. honestly I could have just waited but being told "the vet is finishing up with another patient and is going to check out your pet real soon" is extra service/notice I hadn't expected. It was a fairly long night but vet was fairly thorough.. scientific, matter-of-fact, not harsh but not overly emotional, just right. The vet let me know what care overnight would look like, what the prognosis would be, what could or could not be determined, but made it clear that as a prey animal with very fragile respiratory systems, what happened was not too uncommon. Kara returned to help me, console me, and later present an estimate of care, and (as one might expect) helped me to the (not too hard) decision to put our guinea pig down. (Let me clarify she didn's sway or try to influence my decision, she was just there as I went through the decision making process). I don't blame this hospital for the costs, nor do I have any experience to know if he "should have been able to be saved".. I just know Kara was extremely supportive and kind during what was one of the hardest experiences I've had as a mother (this was going the first pet my kids loved and lost). She was there till with above and beyond care. Anyone colder or just "professional" would've made me feel more isolated and less comforted but she helped me through an extremely difficult time. Kara sets the bar for what care should look like anywhere. Thank you

genuinely cannot say enough good things about Dr. Campbell and the entire team at VEG…read more Our dog, Remi, ended up needing emergency abdominal surgery for an intestinal obstruction, and it was an incredibly stressful and emotional experience. From the moment we arrived until we left, the care we received was exceptional. Dr. Campbell was incredible. I had a lot of questions and concerns, and not once did she make me feel rushed, dismissed, or like I was being difficult. She would sit down with me, explain what she was seeing, what our options were, and why she was recommending what she was recommending. She was patient, thorough, articulate, and confident without ever being condescending. I was having an extremely difficult time with the decision to put Remi through surgery, and she gave me the information I needed without ever pressuring me. I remember telling my wife that if Remi had to have surgery, I was incredibly grateful Dr. Campbell was the one taking care of her. The surgery went extremely well. Dr. Campbell found and removed the obstruction, and thankfully Remi's intestines were healthy. Afterward, she took the time to explain what she found, how Remi did, what to expect during recovery, and even discussed an unrelated finding so we could monitor it in the future. There are people who are technically excellent at what they do, and there are people who are excellent at taking care of the human being on the other side of the exam table. Dr. Campbell is both. Benji was also incredible. His focus was on making sure I was okay during an extremely difficult night. He checked on me constantly, went out of his way to ask if there was anything he could do, and always seemed to show up at the right time with a positive attitude and some reassurance. His kindness was genuine, and those small gestures made a much bigger difference than he probably realizes. Theresa took amazing care of Remi after surgery. She was incredibly patient, kind, and sweet with her. It was obvious that Remi was with someone who genuinely cared about her comfort and recovery. Theresa patiently answered all of our questions, kept us informed, and gave us a lot of peace of mind. Natalie was fantastic as well. She carefully went through the estimates with me and made sure everything was clearly explained. While I was away, she even took photos of Remi and sent them to me so I could see that she was doing okay. At the end, Natalie found a roughly $200 credit that was owed back to us and made sure it was refunded. After such a significant and unexpected veterinary bill, that level of transparency gave me a lot of confidence that Remi's care was truly the priority, not simply maximizing the bill. I also want to recognize everyone whose names I unfortunately didn't get. Especially in the beginning, I was so worried about Remi that remembering names was about the last thing on my mind. The surgical team was amazing. They kept me informed every step of the way, explained what was happening, what was normal, what to expect, and how Remi was doing. After Remi came out of surgery, they did everything they could to reassure me and make me feel better--even while immediately preparing for another surgery. Their compassion during what was obviously an incredibly busy night meant a lot. There was also a nurse who cared for Remi after surgery whose name I unfortunately didn't get. She was incredible. I had a lot of questions, and she patiently answered every one of them. She made sure Remi was constantly checked on and did everything she could to keep her comfortable while she recovered. I wish I had gotten everyone's names because there are more people who deserve to be recognized individually. Every person we encountered, from start to finish, treated Remi and our family with kindness and compassion. This was one of the hardest experiences I've had with Remi, but I never once felt like we were going through it alone. I trusted this team with a member of my family, and I would do so again without hesitation. Thank you to Dr. Campbell and everyone at VEG for taking such incredible care of our girl--and for taking care of us along the way.

In total, the visit took 3 hours, since Sky needed to be sedated. We returned 3 days after to remove his drain, which was done gently and at no extra charge. There was no problem submitting invoices to pet insurance, and the reimbursement was even expedited, since the insurance company found zero issues with the paperwork. Thank you

When this awful situation presented itself last weekend, I was beyond grateful to find VCA Urgent Care Mira Mesa's amazing online waiting room and excellent text-based updates. When we arrived, Stephanie was ready with a smile to help us get checked in -- she wasn't behind a counter, but in the waiting room with us. What a wonderfully welcoming touch! She quickly got us into an exam room and continued the intake, asking lots of questions so that the vet would know what she would be dealing with. The room was nice and clean and private and even had a little sign with our names on it as well as the vet's. Too cute! Dr. Del Rosario was amazing -- super kind and caring and sincere, she wanted to know all about Zorro! She got a good plan together and we were out the door within an hour and he's doing great almost a week later. So grateful for her help! I truly can't recommend them highly enough. Thank you for being amazing to us!

The front office staff was great in getting us checked in and also making us feel welcome up front. Veronica is also a great asset to the team. She went over pricing with us and was transparent by showing us the pricing on the iPad rather than reading everything to us outloud. Dr. Skinner is probably the best vet we've been to. She's very empathetic, patient, and knowledgeable. She gave us options rather than making us feel obligated to do all of the tests appropriate for our dog's issue. She showed us his X-rays and was very sweet towards our pup. The place is new - just opened up in December. There's drinks and snacks in their waiting room. The facility is extremely clean and modern. I don't live nearby, but this is definitely a place we would turn to if needed.

Joey was really in pain and massive diarrhea, I am guessing from Meds previously prescribed. I think the muscle relaxer. Got to VCA, From Peg at the front desk to seeing Dr. Kosmo we felt listened to. Even though we still do not know exactly what kind of injury, which may be a pinched nerve or soft tissue injury they were very thorough with test, etc. They presented us with a written estimate, charging the lower end. The ER Dr. Kosmo called with a very long conversation about everything they saw that was immediately available. I was most impressed with the page long instructions for meds that was very detailed. I am used to just being handled a bottle with simple instructions. He has been very comfortable since then. Today is Monday night. No crying out loud. No tossing around trying to find a comfortable position or whimpering. We've all got sleep. Joey's not out of the woods, but sooooo much better. Can't say enough good things about this hospital. Oh, did I mention they clipped and cleaned up the hiney mess while sedated. Thank You!

EDIT: I gave an extra star since someone from the hospital called me regarding my review, so I'm…read moreglad that they take these reviews seriously. I also want to give an update that my dog is doing fine and didn't have any additional symptoms, so I'm glad I didn't pay thousands to hospitalize him overnight. I took my dog here because he ate a chocolate brownie which is toxic for dogs, so I had called to inquire if I should bring him in and based on his weight and the amount that he ate, they advised I take him in which I did. I knew that it would be pricey since this is an emergency pet clinic and I'm so thankful that they were able to induce vomiting and get him to throw up a significant amount of the brownie and save his life. However, I got the sense that they were trying to upsell me. Just the emergency exam and induced vomiting alone already cost almost $500, but they also wanted my dog to stay for 8 hours to be monitored because they said there was still a risk of toxicity. When they provided a quote, it was going to cost almost $3K which to me is ridiculous! I opted to take my dog home and monitor him myself and fortunately he is fine. The receptionist who also helped me didn't seem very friendly like she didn't want to be there. I get it that it was after midnight but considering that people are there because of an emergency and worried about their pets, it would be helpful if she was a little bit more empathetic and caring. They also overcharged me for what they initially quoted for the meds and I realized this after I had already gotten home, but I was able to call and leave a message and they credited me the difference. However, their explanation was that there is a price difference when a patient is going to be hospitalized vs. outpatient care and the technician forgot to relay the price difference. So you mean to tell me that the exact same medicine cost more just because I opted to take my pet home rather than pay $3K to keep him overnight?!? Clearly an indicator that they care more about money and profit than our pets!!! I'm glad that they were able to help my pet since it was the only emergency option (another VCA hospital would have cost more and was further) but I don't like when people try to take advantage in vulnerable and desperate situations!

One vet in San Diego suggested he be put down! I was horrified and feeling desperate. I was referred to Vet Playas through a friend of a friend which ended up saving my dog's life. It's been almost 10 months since his surgery at Vet Playas and he is still doing fabulous and pooping like a champ! I am so grateful to Dr. Juan and the entire staff. The surgery was a complete success and it cost a fraction of what they charge for this surgery in the states! The entire staff was so professional and caring and they spoke English as well as Spanish. I also learned that a perineal hernia is more common in dogs that are not neutered and are older in age - yet another reason to spay and neuter! (I had adopted my dog when he was a senior and thought it would be okay not to neuter at the time.) I wholeheartedly recommend Vet Playas for their veterinary expertise and their kindness. Also, Dr. Juan was able to examine my dog who would totally try and bite me when I tried to do the same! They truly are dog whisperers!
