    Boodle Fight

If you're looking to try authentic Filipino food, this is one of the great places to go to. Although the place is quite small, they are very welcoming and accommodating to large groups as well. There were 9 of us and the staff was very attentive. We tried their Boodle Fight where they serve all the food on top of banana leaves on the table. It came with garlic fried rice, spring rolls, sun-dried fish, your choices of BBQ skewers, grilled egg plants, grilled squid, mussels and salted eggs. We also had their halo-halo, ice scramble and sago gulaman. I highly recommend! Make sure to call ahead and reserve your spot for if you're going to try the Boodle Fight menu.

Our second time visiting Eskenita! Always a good time coming back. So many Filipino streetfood that you crave for all in one place. From inihaw skewers, kikiam, kwekwek, fishballs, iskrambol, silogs!!! and so much more. I just wish my wallet has more budget to buy more. We come from Mississauga, and drove here because of cravings. Staffs are diligent, and respectful. Music is spot-on! Decent seating area, not for larger groups, but maybe can be rearranged if needed. Had pork sisig bowl ($9) , liemposilog ($10), our fave cheesy fries ($4.50?) kikiam ($5?) and iskrambol. All in all-- great. Kikiam is not as close taste to what it was like from back home but it was good to try! Wish sisig bowl has more portions though but tasted great! Will probably get the platter next time. Liemposilog was good, hope it had the same marinate like the skewers-- like sweet/salty taste. Overall, rating it at 4/5 dining experience! Keep it up, Eskenita!

This is one of those small ethnic food place I wish I would love but I left unsatisfied with the desserts I ordered. Love the concept of Filipino street food. There are skewers of different protein available! Even Chicken Feet! But I was here for some dessert! Turon Special ($6) - Deep Fried Plantain and Jackfruit Rolls with Ube/Macapuno Ice Cream - Nicely presented! Love the contrast colour of the ice cream. Though the fried banana was made when ordered, it did not taste good. Might be the banana was not ripe enough? Halo Halo ($7) - I always love halo halo! But this one was meh. The ice was in such a big chunk and it was hard to break that up with our plastic fork. The toppings can be better. I might give their cook food a try but will be a pass for their dessert.

The best way to discover a new cuisine or culture is through their street food. Eskenita is a family owned Filipino restaurant that specializes in BBQ Skewers and Filipino-style breakfast. They are definitely a hidden gem tucked away in a small plaza in Thornhill. If you are adventurous, I definitely recommend trying all the different kinds of BBQ meats they have available to go with your Silogs (rice). Their skewers are marinated and grilled to perfection and you can't go wrong with their Silogs as well. Highly recommend!

I visited Eskenita for lunch on a Friday. It's a small restaurant located in a fairly large outdoor mall, which made it a little difficult to find. However, it seems to be quite popular because half the tables were full when I arrived. The interior was interesting. It looked a lot like a corner bodega with a kitchen attached and they sell apparel as well (shoes, sunglasses, hats, etc.). They serve all-day breakfast, so I decided to try the TapSiLog, which is marinated beef, and a fried egg over rice. The beef was delicious. You can tell that it has been marinated for a long time. It reminded me so much of home and the skewered meats you can find in Southeast Asia. I didn't particularly like the rice. I thought it was too crunchy and dry. The sauce that came with dish helped a bit with the dryness. The egg looked promising because the yolk looked runny on top. However, when I cut into it, I realized that it was overcooked. I might come back for the skewers, but probably not the breakfast. I also tried the halo halo. It was definitely tasty and sweet. I enjoyed the ice cream, the condensed milk, and the toppings. However, there were several large pieces of ice that had formed, making it a little difficult to eat at times.

This place has got to be one if not the most fun and cool place to hang out to when you're missing Pinoy street foods or if you want to get a small taste of authentic Filipino street foods. They are the only Filipino restaurant in GTA that offers authentic Filipino street foods like Isaw, Betamax, Chicken & Pork bbq, Kwekwek and many more! They really live up to their tag line: "Tastes like home" They also offer a wide variety of Filipino favorites! My favorite is their Sisig bowl and halo-halo! I will definitely come back here when I visit in the area again. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this hidden gem in the heart of Vaughan! Thank you for existing, Eskenita Foods!

My favorite Kwek-kwek (deep fried quail egg) and their best selling skewers!

This review is way long overdue! I came here with my friends during our trip from Boston to Toronto and we made sure that we drop by this store because I have heard a lot of amazing reviews on Facebook about their authentic Filipino street foods! They have a 4.9/5 Stars rating on Facebook and while I believe that they should have 5 stars there as here on yelp, I know that nobody's perfect anyway. There's always room for improvement and I really appreciate how the owners of this restaurant took their time in making sure that we enjoyed their food and service! Everyone was very accommodating and we really felt "at home" during our entire dining experience. Their foods were really really good compared to most places around GTA. Believe me, I've tried 3 others Filipino restaurants in the area but I'm not gonna name names. I also enjoyed how casual their store is. You won't feel out of place or anything like that. I definitely believe and experienced the hype and I can't wait to come back again soon!

This is not your typical Filipino restaurant because by the name itself: "Eskenita Foods" meaning street corner foods, you can't really expect it to be fancy. If you were born and raised in the Philippines then you'll know what I'm talking about.. So I don't really understand when I see people complaining about the ambiance of this restaurant? Lol. It is what it is you guys. If anything, the only difference is their food is legit clean unlike the foods that you can buy from the literal Eskenita in the Philippines. (If you know what I mean) Haha. Location wise: It's not very easy to find, but if you just follow your GPS then you'll get there for sure. Lol. And they have store signs that stands out! Parking is very easy since it's located in a commercial complex meaning, there's always a spot within walking distance so that's a huge plus! Prices: Very affordable! And for the portion of the food? Omg. I can't really complain about it. They also have a Buy 12 skewers get 3 free so yeah. Might as well get that to save some $! Taste: Very legit! I enjoyed every bite of my pork Isaw. The flavors of their skewers are unlike any other Filipino restaurants around! But don't just take my word for it, ya'll gotta try it! And OMG. Their Mais Con Yelo is so delicious! Like I'm not even exaggerating! Service: they really do make you feel at home. All of their staff are very friendly and accommodating! They will always serve you with a smile, chat with you and even take pictures with you if you let them, of course. Overall? I would definitely recommend it to all Filipinos and non-Filipinos who wanted to know and experience what the street foods in the Philippines taste like!

Didn't know there was place for boodle fight in North York! Well, technically its Vaughan, but it's on steeles and yonge ish so I would say its north york enough. Interior reflects previous convenience store. My group ordered boodle fight for 3. It was pretty good! Boneless milkfish was my favorite along with the skewers. Only thing was the squid. I'm not a huge fan of ginger, and the squid was stuffed with ginger lol. Overall we had good dinner and would love to come back and try other menus

Food is okay. But they are selfish in sauces specially vinegar.I ordered 20 sticks of skewer(mixed),they gave me 2 sauce in a small container. Was asking to add 1 but they sell it 2 dollars(4oz)which is very small for the price

Came across this little Filipino gem on my way to work. The place is small, but it reminds me of the Filipino canteens I use to eat in when I was a kid, so you know, nostalgia. The selection and combos they have is more than enough and the price is just right! A great place to have street food style bbq, and fish balls, would definitely come back!

A few Saturdays back, a couple of friends and I met up at Islas Filipino BBQ and Bar. We all…read morepitched eatery ideas and went with this suggestion from our Filipino friend who has always been my guide when it comes to Filipino food. We originally planned on going in early February. We meet up roughly every two months. One friend had to cancel. I was away during the long Family Day weekend. Instead, we rescheduled to the Saturday after the long weekend. I am the reservation booker in our group. I don't wait for someone to do it. It's an automatic instinct. I booked online twice. It was easy to cancel my first reservation and reschedule. You get a text message that confirms that your reservation is good or that your cancellation request went through. You also get a reminder a day before and an hour before your reservation. Nice! I had no problem finding a parking spot on Queen Street West, steps away from the eatery on the north side of the street. It's Green P parking, so I paid for three hours of parking through the app. I then started a new session for an hour because we tend to go over three hours when we dine as a group. It's such a great app and is convenient! One of my friends had arrived when I did. Moments later, our other friend made it. We all walked into the restaurant. The woman who greeted us knew my name from the reservation. It was nice to not say much! We got a nice table in the middle of the eatery. We ordered the following items: - To' silog with pandesal (me) - Bulalo (beef shank) soup - Barbeque - chicken and pineapple skewers - Sisig with steamed rice - Cava - Manila bay x 3 We got water to start. Our group tends to go for alcoholic drinks. We went with a bottle of cava, which was the best. It was fizzy, light, and enjoyable for brunch. I wanted a Filipino breakfast and went with the to' silog with pandesal. It had Filipino bacon called tocino that was pork belly. I love pork belly and liked how it was both slightly sweet and savory. I got two fried eggs, a light salad, and an orange wedge. It came with the fluffiest pandesal that I used to sop up the runny yolks. The garlic fried rice was amazing. Everything was delicious. One of my friend had the barbeque. I learned that barbeque means things on skewers that are barbequed. She got chicken and pineapple on skewers that came dangling from a pretty skewer holder with dipping sauce in the middle of it. She loved it so much. She saw my pandesal and my devouring it as if I hadn't had bread in my life that she got one. She understood how yummy it was. My other friend got the Bulalo (beef shank) soup. He was impressed that I knew the name of his dish. We have similar tastes. I like shank in soup. If I didn't have a craving for Filipino breakfast, I would have had this dish. He enjoyed it. It looked huge and hearty, especially with corn on the cob and other veggies in the soup. As we dined and chatted, I noticed an orange drink that the table next to us had. I asked our server what it was. It was Manila Bay. It had San Miguel beer, gin, calamansi, and honey. It was a traditional Manila drink. Our group said yes to a pitcher. It technical serves two, but we split it between the three of us to see if we liked it. OMG! This cocktail was delicious. We loved it so much that we ordered two more pitchers, so we essentially had one each when we were done. It was totally worth splurging to get it. It was refreshing and yummy. We didn't get any dessert. We were full from the food and drinks. Our alcoholic drinks were our dessert... haha! The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so it's not great accessibility-wise. The washroom was clean and decent. Staff were so patient with us. We were the first group to arrive and the last to leave at around 4:30 pm. We got the bill split in three. All three of us paid with credit cards. I tapped and tipped. All was great. It's a fabulous place to enjoy authentic Filipino food and drinks with company. Everything was yummy and staff were great. I'd return in a heartbeat for more. Maybe we can do a kamayan feast (boodle fight eating with your hands) next time. (117)

Food: 3.5 Stars Service: 3 Stars…read moreAmbience: 3 Stars Fill Factor: Filling This is a late review but I came here based on a recommendation by a co-worker who really liked their BBQ offerings. Overall I was fairly satisfied with the food and wouldn't mind trying some of their other offerings. For some reason I was very excited to try this place so I ordered a bit more than I usually do. We did the prix fixe menu choosing the lumpia as our starter, adobo as our main, and a halo halo as our dessert. We also ordered the BBQ pork as this was highly recommended and the main reason I wanted to try Islas. The BBQ pork definitely met the hype as the meat was tender and flavourful. The lumpia (which is essentially a spring roll) was also great with its crispy exterior and flavourful fillings. The halo halo was solid as well. The adobo was the one thing I did not really enjoy much. It was ok but this is not the flavour of adobo that I personally enjoy. It was not bad but not the flavour I think of when I want adobo. The space was large and was dimly lit. It felt clean and spacious and the decor was alright nothing special. The service was ok. They took our order, brought our food and cashed us out. Really nothing especially good or bad. All in all I would definitely come back here for the BBQ and to try some of their other offerings. Glad I came here and tried it and would recommend the same to anyone looking for food in the area.

Ube Milk Jelly ($4.99). The customer service is good, although you may have to wait during busy meal times because there were so many customers. The Ensaymada is a fluffy bread type pastry filled with custard or ube. Both were delicious. The Shanghai and Empanada were good. I loved the Mini Turon which had banana and jack fruit inside a crispy shell, coated with caramelized brown sugar. For their skewers, you can pour a spiced vinegar sauce or a fishball sauce, or both into the cardboard container. The fishball sauce is a thick, sweet and savory sauce. Kikiam is a sausage-like roll made of minced pork and vegetables, seasoned with 5-spice powder Kwek Kwek is simply made up of hardboiled quail eggs that's coated in a pancake-like batter, and deep-fried until light and crispy. I absolutely loved the Sago Gulaman drink. I love sago pieces. The Gulaman has a sweetness from agar, which I also love. Calimansi is Philippine's most popular drink. Tapsilog, a popular Filipino (breakfast?) meal, is a portmanteau of the dish's three components: tapa (beef), sinangag (garlic fried rice), and itlog (fried egg). The beef was good. The fried rice was indeed garlicy. Chicken Inasal is a grilled chicken, typically the breast (Pecho) or leg (Paa). This version was the breast. This chicken was moist and perfectly cooked. Beef Mami is a type of Beef Noodle soup of Filipino-Chinese origin. This is simply composed of tender beef brisket and egg noodles, boiled eggs, and other toppings which are soaked in a hot and flavourful beef stock. This was indeed nice to have on a cold day like today. The beef was tender. Chicken Mami is a Filipino-style soup with flavourful stock, fresh egg noodles, flaked chicken, vegetables, and tasty toppings! This warm soup was also welcome on a cold day like today. Taho is a Philippine snack food made of fresh soft/silken tofu, arnibal, and sago pearl. This staple comfort food.of course I liked this because of the sago and tofu. I love anything with silky tofu in it! You usually eat it with a spoon but you can also use a wide straw. The Milk Jelly were good. It had a lot of flavoured jellies in thick milk. There are many picnic tables in the outdoor food court. Unfortunately during the Spring and Fall, the tables are not surrounded by walls as they are during winter. We happen to come when the temperature was around 2C! It felt so cold with the windchill. There is no free WiFi. The food stall is wheelchair accessible. There are o washrooms at this food court. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2025-047
