I was in the plaza running errands and really craving a sweet treat. Thankfully Cups was around to fulfill my sweet cravings. It was quite busy during dinner time. I ended up getting a small bingsu injeolmi flavour, it's dusted with roasted soybean powder and topped with rice cakes and condense milk. It's really tasty and light. I normally eat the bingsu on site as it's much more appealing visually but taking it home is just as good! I even froze some of the leftovers to enjoy the next day and just as good (maybe not the same fluffy texture but still pretty good). Bonus the cup packaging they drew on is super cute. read more

Its one of those hot days in Toronto again and a perfect day to cool yourself with some cold desserts. My favourite is the blossom bingsu. As the name suggest it is beautifully presented like flower. With peach, grapefruit, fruit puree on a shaved milk ice topped with whipped cream is the best! The ice is so fine in texture and will literally melt in your mouth. The fruit balances the sweetness from the puree and the condense milk, specially the bittersweet grapefruit. Its good to eat it in as it'll melt right away if you have it as to go. Also, we tried their fruit cups (mango) with whipped cream a little sweet to me but its also good. Staff are friendly, not much people when we visited and you'll get your order quickly. The cappuccino was good too, it comes in big cups. The croffle was $15 with a small scoop of ice cream. I feel like it could be bigger and not the sorbet type. I used to not understand the appeal of shaved ice, and I was sorely judged by friends for it. What I have learned is that bingsu is just a completely different experience - and no better place to try it out than The Cups! We opted for a classic Asian dessert flavour pair: matcha & red bean. Topped with injeolmi (soybean powder-covered glutinous rice cubes), sliced almonds, and matcha ice cream, this was a perfect balance of sweet, creamy, & nutty flavours! Unlike other shaved ice, bingsu has a lighter, fluffier, milkier texture and taste--think of it more as shaved milk. I loved every bite, and it didn't feel like a heavy dessert at all. The churro croffle was also a hit with our group! The sugary syrup and fresh waffle smell permeated the airspace above our table haha. Warm, caramel goodness, crispy yet soft croffle, topped with ice cream for that cold-hot pair? A dream. Lastly, the blueberry tea was surprisingly more enjoyable than we expected. Always a classic biingsu place I fall back onto if I see one around me. Snowy shaved ice and good amount of toppings. Not accessible as it's up a flight of steeper stairs. There is ample seating but not for many large groups/families. They do sell croffles, taoyaki etc but I've only had experience with the bingsu. I remember the mango bingsu being really good so we got that and an oreo bingsu (both in cup size to share). Aside from the longer than usual wait time for our buzzer to vibrate, the service was courteous. IIRC this store had the same amount of seating as the one on Glen Cameron (just a bit north on Yonge). The FMP store (when it was alive) had the most seats as it was a huge store. It has been awhile but I don't recall seeing croffles or cupcakes on the menu in the past but they have them now. From ordering, to picking up your order, and returning your used bowls and cutlery. Because of the size and design of the dining area, customers placing order and people doing dining ware return runs into each other, it get pretty disorganized. I believe in the summer they have outdoor seating, so things may be a bit better. Interesting and well presented desserts, but the service doesn't justify the price. I never had cups before as I usually get my shaved ice fix from snowtime or sul bean. Located across from centerpoint mall in a busy plaza, we opted for small mango bingsoo and mr. Tran got himself a small muscat grape bingsoo. We also got twisted donuts. We got the buzzer as we had to wait for our bingsoo to be made, which did not take too long. The size was perfect for one person. I really liked the bingsoo as it was delicious and the mango was ripe to perfection. My toddler wouldn't stop eating from mine, so she really enjoyed it as well. I tried mr. Trans bingsoo, but it didn't taste like muscat grape.. it tasted like regular green grapes (muscat grapes has a distinct grape taste vs your average green grapes). The twisted donut was coated in sugar which was nice and it tasted yummy, but it was really oily (my fingers and the brown bag it came in was drenched it oil). This is my go-to bingsu place! Their bingsu never disappoints and always satisfy my sweet cravings. My favourite bingsu is the Tiramisu Bingsu. You get a slice of tiramisu cake on-top and an espresso shot on the side. I'm not a coffee person but the espresso shot really helps balance the sweetness from the cake and condensed milk. I usually only put half of it and it's good enough. What makes this place over the top is probably the service. The owner is very friendly and detail oriented. I'm actually pleasantly surprised when he handed our bingsu to our table. ( You usually pick up the order yourself when you order from the counter) Also, we didn't even tell him where we are sitting. Been seeing this place over Instagram and headed over in search of some dessert post-lunch. The parking was a little hectic in the plaza since it is quite busy but we managed to find a spot within 5 minutes of arriving. The shop itself was easy to find, thanks to the abundance of large signage. We walked in to find a small space that still carried quite a big of seating! There was a long high-bar table on the left (good for 10-15 people, perfect for large groups) and about 4-5 tables on the righthand side, each good for about 5-6 people. Even today, a weekday around 2 pm, there were quite a few groups of people! Everyone seemed very content. We sat ourselves and heard someone greet us behind the counter. When my guests went to look at the menus on the wall, the employee offered them a menu to take back to our table to sit down and look. Their menu is quite vast - we ended up opting for a STRAWBERRY BINGSU and a BLACK SESAME FRAPPE. With 10% tip, this amounted to just over $20 (note that they only accept debit and/or cash). I guess you don't really need to tip since you go up to order and pay, then they call you to pick up your items to bring back to your seat yourself but they use dine-in dishes (hence the labor to wash) and the staff member was super friendly, so I think a tip is well-deserved. The employee thanked me when I brought back my tray and even thanked me again when we stepped out of the shop! In my photos, you can see a Happy Birthday sign - which I brought from home but asked the employee if she could top our strawberry bingsu with it since it was one of my guest's birthday coming up soon. She gladly accepted. The menu items were made so pretty! Just as advertised in the photos. It also tasted great. The shaved portions tasted a lot like yogurt to me and everything just complimented each other so well. The ice cream that topped the bingsu was nice and creamy as well. The winner for me though was the black sesame frappe - so rich in black sesame and not overly ice-y. Amazing. Overall, the shop was very clean as well. Definitely will be back for more goods. We asked for some extra condensed milk on the side. The toast was warm and crispy with a thick mochi layer in the middle. It did not feel too heavy which is great since you can then eat more. The only problem my friends and I had with the mango one was that the fruit was so sour that we ended up leaving a couple of pieces of mango in the bowl.
