Recently moved to Willow Glen wand was looking for a local acupuncturist. Very happy I found Dr. Hsu because he is incredible at his craft. He takes the time to understand ailment and treats you with care throughout your session. My most recent visit left me feeling pain free after battling with neck stiffness for a few days. I was completely shocked when I got up from the table and my pain was nearly gone after my 30 minute session. The staff is quite friendly and they seem to take most insurance. After acupuncture sessions with Dr. Hsu, I always feel so relaxed and light that I have to wait a few minutes in the car before driving off. Yeah, that good. If you've ever considered acupuncture as an option, Esprit Healing Center is the perfect office. Located at the edge of Willow Glen by Playa Azul, it has its own parking lot in the rear. The front of the office, manned by Jennifer (Dr. Hsu's wife), is always nicely decorated according to the seasons. While the walls are a bit thin, the rooms are very much private. Jennifer always provides a courtesy reminder call the day before your appointment, and unfortunately I've had to re-schedule a few times with no consequence. Dr. Hsu starts off by checking your tongue and reading your pulse in your wrist. Once you've laid down, Dr. Hsu starts by applying the needles to injury/specific points. The needles are very tiny and prick for only a quarter of a second -- much less than you would during an immunization shot. After he leaves the room and shuts the door, you lay for a bit and meditate and let everything just melt away. Dr. Hsu returns in the middle of the session, adjust the needles, and then leaves you be for some more time. He always asks to ensure that you are comfortable, and sometimes covers you with a light blanket if it is cold. He is gentle and always concerned about your well-being, and as a female, I have to stress that it is never weird. Also, there is never upsell of any products or services of any kind. The big difference is that my appointments only last half an hour versus an hour at other locations, but I haven't found a better HMO acupuncture clinic than Esprit Healing Center. With the half hour appointments, I am able to meditate without dozing off. A lot of insurers are starting to provide acupuncture or chiropractric care with benefits, so definitely check to see if you have this. Mine only requires a $10 co-pay -- very much affordable compared to paying out of pocket. Highly recommended to help cope with stress. read more

From the time you will enter Dr Mascarotti's room, he will impress you with his skills from the Chiropractic text book. Even though you have already explained to him that you came only for herbs, since he likes to be known as a Homeopathic doctor as well. It happened to me, two months ago, when I met him and I stated clearly that I want to boost my immune system with some herbs. I had also stated that I am not very strong because I had a procedure in my heart a few months before. In the beginning he was listening to me and taking notes. At one point he got up and he asked me to take off my socks and lie down on his bench. I thought he is going to figure out what kind of herbs my body needs and before you know it, he started twisting my neck, I said "please stop it" and his answer was "I can not stop now, I have to twist your neck on the other side, otherwise it does not work" If that was all, it would be nice. But he wanted me to turn my body on the right side of the bench and he put my knee over the other leg. He sat forcefully with his body on my right side. The same he did on my left side. By that time, I was exhausted and almost crying from pain. I thought now he is proud that he practiced all the twists and turns from his Chiropractic Book and how well he knows to perform them. At that time I thought my torture was over, but when I was standing and looking at the wall, he comes from behind me with his back on my back and he lifts me up. By that time my heart was pounding. I mentioned to him, one more time, that I came only for the herbs. Finally he gave me, three small tubes of 1) Hypericum Perforatum, 2) Rhus Toxicodendron, and 3) Symphytum and he wanted me to come back in two days. When I got home I checked my blood pressure and it was 170 over 80 and my heart 98 bpm. I called the office and I canceled the next appointment. I mentioned to the secretary that your doctor does his own thing, without listening to the needs of his patients. Meanwhile I found out that the Hypericum Perforatum is the St. John's wort, which not only interacts with my blood pressure pills (nausea, insomnia, fatigue,..) but has been proven that it does not treat depression. After that I threw all the herbs into the trash can. But he caused me more problems. Besides the high blood pressure, (which in the first weeks I tried anti-anxiety pills, without any success) I had to call my Cardiologist and he recommended to double my blood pressure pills every day for awhile. I notice the nerves of my right groin vibrating on and off, almost everyday, then it turned to a steady pain. I had to use ice packs. On the left side of my ribs, when I was sleeping on that side, I could sense an endless throbbing. So, I had to massage this area, more than a week, to calm it down. My neck was hurting me, on and off and my lower back got worst. When he heard that I have a pinched nerve (sciatica), he thought that he would take care my problem in 10 minutes. I have to admire his confidence. Eventually I called him to complain for all the above and his advice was, if you need your cardiologist go see him and if I caused you another heart problem go for another ablation!!!! I had visited him few times in the past, and at that time he listened to me and he did not do any acrobatics on my body, but this time he was in a different zone. I do not know what adjective fits best for him, immature, naive or charlatan? I am glad, that I am still alive, what else can I say, besides I do not want to see him again. read more

I was having awful back pains. I was tired of taking pain medication. This only masked the problem. I called the center on Tuesday and they were able to get me in that afternoon. I met Dr. Hsu. He took the time to ask valuable questions. He then began performing the procedure. He made the process very comfortable. I have now gone back to see him a couple times. Acupuncturist: Dr. Hsu Acupuncture attempted 3x in 2 wks. Did not improve the butt lock pain at all. Performed cupping ON MY BFs lumbar spine and caused alot of pain on the cupping locations. Left with a 2 huge bumps (3x3") on his lumbar spine! I'm Chinese and never see cupping performed ON THE SPINE. Cancelled both of our appointments. read more

Dr. Hsu is awesome. I've been seeing him for a couple of months after a very long labor and tough post partum. He comes back in a couple of times and always checks in with you to make sure you're comfortable. He really helped in my recovery and I'd recommend him to everyone looking for acupuncture. Yes Dr M is absolutely amazing! I was a skeptic to eastern medicine and thought my wife was wasting her money. Several things led me to my first appointment. The first is hearing testimonies from my wife and several other people that my wife lead him. Absolutely amazing things like a person that could not carry a pregnancy to term and diagnosing my wife with a female problem before she had any symptoms. The final straw was that my wife went into an appointment and we have only eat chicken, fish and fruits and veggies. At the end of the appointment Dr M said to my wife, "Hey tell your husband to lay off the red meat". Well my wife laughed it off and came home and told me what Dr M had said. My wife did not know but for the last week or so I was having burgers and steak for my lunches and dinners at work. I was flabbergasted at this and thought it was time for me to go see him. Stress was eating me alive at work and I was dealing with male problems as well. It was affecting my work as well as my family life I told Dr M and he put me on a regiment of natural supplements to detox my system. It was not as expensive as I thought and I followed his suggestions. I am happy to say that I am better able to handle stressful situations at work but I am more focused and am even have more energy. Dr. Mascarotti is just wonderful. I have been seeing him for about a year and he is so much more than a chiropractor. He is very thorough and uses many elements to assess your energy and what your body needs to heal. I have recently started bringing my teenage daughter to see him to work through some of her fears due to early childhood trauma. I can already sense a difference in her. I have known Dr. Mascarotti for about 2 years. He treats my daughter who has some psychological and physical issues. She is veeery sensitive, and Dr. Mascarotti finds the best way to make her comfortable and relaxed during his treatment. He uses homeopathic remedies, chiropractic adjustments, muscle testing technique, and unusual optical energy diagnostic. I have had acupuncture from Dr Hsu, and highly recommend him. I went in with 4-5 chronic problems that have been worsening with age, hoping to get some dietary advice and/or herbs. He is a very lively, cheerful sort of person, with a quick mind, so he immediately settled on the root cause of all my problems---but recommended acupuncture rather than herbs or diet as the best approach. Having had acupuncture from different people in different parts of the world --and having not always enjoyed the experience, I was reluctant. But he was so friendly, we compromised on 3 needles. His technique was skillful, and the needles so fine that I hardly felt them. But I did immediately feel positive effects. After 6 treatments, there was definite improvement, which is somewhat amazing for these old, old problems.
