I saw Michelle for a brow lamination and tint but I was deeply upset how it turned out and how unprofessional she was in handling it. My brows were clearly overprocessed. The hairs turned uncontroallably kinky and unruly which is the direct opposite of a brow lamination. She started arguing with me telling me it was my fault for putting on oil too soon which is not true. They were chemically fried and still are two months later. She did offer lash extensions but it is not a service I am interested in. In fact, during the brow lamination, she was trying to hard sell me on them. I sent her photos of my brows after a successful lamination but she still insisted it was my fault. When I turned down the lash extension, I threw out a facial thinking it's a lot less expensive treatement and far less time consuming for her. She said she could do it at 30% off as a 'goodwill gesture.' That is what frustrated me the most. My brows are ruined and the only thing I can do is have them grow out. Her 'goodwill gesture' made me feel like she wasn't taking accountability for a job that had gone wrong. Their foot massages are 5 stars: I teach Zumba 3 times a week and if I ever have pain in my feet, legs, back, or shoulders, a 60 or 90 minute massage helps ease all of my aches. But it is little known to most, is about the "Beauty" portion of Essence Beauty Spa, which warrants another 5 stars. Michelle is amazing at her trade of semi-permanent makeup. She has lined my upper eyelid, put on 3D eyelashes, and micro-bladed my eyebrows. This has made my daily makeup routine so much easier. I put on a bit of concealer under my eyes and I'm good to go. When she did my eyebrows, she spent one hour consulting with me and perfected the size and shape in order to make sure the brows would work with my face. If anyone is worried about the pain, her numbing cream is great and you won't feel a thing. Ladies (and gents), semi-permanent makeup ain't like your crazy old aunt's tattooed makeup. I went in last week to get my Mink Lashes done that I purchased from Groupon. 1. Making a Appt with her is the most difficult thing to do. When I finally got her on the phone she was extremly RUDE. I aske dher to verify her address and she said... "look online" I said I did but there are like 5 business with your name. She hung up. I called her back and said I will report her to groupon. And then she gave me the address. She was short with me and seemed annoyed LOL. That I am calling her to make an appt for HER business. 2. The day before my appt she sends me a auto generated text with the WRONG time of my appt. I replied back saying its at 4:30pm not 3 pm and she said "YES" so damn weird. 3. Day of Appt was NOTHING great. She didn't even know what I had bought. I had to tell her. She didn't ask for any specifics on how I would like them, am I comfortable , any questions, etc. She worked on my eyes with a glue that is very strong so eyes water a lot. Then she finished in about 30 to 40 minutes. As she was working on me people walked in and she had to assist them and didn't even bother telling me that she will leave. Although she had another man in the office who could have assisted the other clients. 4. When I left I felt obligated to Tip. So I did. Then she asked me to not review her on this Yelp page but review her on "Lashes by Michelle". At 1st I didn't understand why, but later I realized its bc She has bad business ethics and she is trying to hide from the Essence Beauty Spa Name, Because everyone has called her out on it. read more

EYELASHES: I was very new to the eye lash phenomenon but Michelle has been amazing at picking just the right length and curl for my face. I wear makeup as frequently as I go to the dentist but with my eyelash extensions there is no need and now I am forever converted. The atmosphere is quiet, and Michelle often takes last minute walk-ins which has saved me on at least a couple of occasions. The price point is great and makes the whole process much easier for upkeep and the staff are always very kind and welcoming. I highly recommend this spot! Ask for Michelle for eyelash extensions. PARKING: Because it's in a little plaza on PCH, it can get a little crowded but I have never had issues as there is parking available on side streets and I am lucky enough to be able to go during "office hours" which helps. STAFF: All staff have been nothing but helpful and gracious. You get a loyalty card for each visit and a prize when you fill in the slots which also helps keep costs down. In December I purchased a Groupon deal and it's taking me two months to get an appointment when you call to make an appointment not only is the lady who answers the phone rude but she also question you how did you hear about this place when you say you purchased a Groupon deal they automatically tell you you can only have an appointment Monday through Friday (The Groupon deal does not say you can only use Monday through Friday) that and they're fully booked. If you don't mention the Groupon deal they give you an appointment same day. I came in thinking I'm gonna try to get the Groupon deal , but good thing I didn't because she showed me the mink ones which were more pricier about $130 , but so worth it, you get what you pay for! If I could give this "no stars" that would represent the level for which I think they are qualified. I am not sure who goes here for lashes, but the woman who answers the phone is something else. my lash girl quit working at the place i used to go, and it's too far of a drive for me to go to her new place. so i looked around on groupon and compared with yelp, and decided to buy the deal. now I would like a refund for this groupon. I contacted the number to set up an appointment, and the mailbox has not been set up. I kept calling over the last week, and now today, I reach someone/a woman. She was very brusque which is not fun being a new customer for something you need to trust your provider to be gentle, cautious (it's your eyes and ther eis risk in this treatment) and hopefully kind. Besides I would hope they want the business and that is why they do the groupon. This woman's demeanor, was really inappropriate, and frankly unwanted. I was excited to go here, and looking forward to getting my lashes done especially because it's for my birthday, and I left the phone call with that overall shitty feeling. If you care to read, this is the more specific on what happened: I asked for an appointment, the woman asked this week or next. Before I answered that, I asked her where she is located exactly, so that I could figure out what day would be best--she told me I would have to hang up check groupon and call back to make the appointment. I was a bit taken aback, but I decided to forge on. I told her I knew it was in the southbay, but I didn't recall where exactly, and I was driving and had been trying to get a hold of her for a bit. So she asked what day, so I asked again where she was, and she did the exasperated tongue behind the teeth (like "ugh") again told me I had to hang up and look it up--she wasn't going to tell me! I know, I know, my fault because I still continued...I told her, that I was sorry I just didn't recall, and I was trying to make an appointment. she asked for when--I again, said, well, i'd like to tell you a time, but I need to know where you are located first. afterall that, I said a tues or Thursday would be best, after 1. she said I have a 3pm next tuesday. I said, ok, but do you have anything available at 1. she said, I already told you I have an appointment open at 3pm, not 1pm. I finally just said, look, I am trying to make an appointment, I understand you have 3pm available, I was just asking for 1pm. Do you have 1pm available for Thursday. I told you already we are booked this week! (This is where most people would hang up, but no. I continue.) I said, I know...I was asking about NEXT week, as you told me nothing is available for Tuesday next week at 1. Then I said, nevermind, you don't seem to really want to help me make an appointment and you're being very rude--and worse yet, without cause. I said something about I will not be using my groupon with you afterall and then just hung up. She didn't call back and say, you know what, I'm sorry. I've had a super long day...or ANYTHING. I could see if I WAS RUDE to herfrom the start but I was just asking to make an appointment--no attitude, raised voice, etc. Bottomline, I wouldn't want someone who is treating a potential customer this way to be the one providing me my service. read more
