This review is long overdue. Devin came out back in September to give us a quote. During this time we e also had other renovations going on and was not able to start but we had an estimated date for him to begin after Thanksgiving. I was contemplating a color in the off white family. Turns out white is not really white. There are hundreds of shades of white. So many that I decided that it was not my color. I decided on the same color as my range/hood above my stove top. He was able to color match and make the cabinets the same color! Devin came out to remove the doors and drawer covers. We had some pretty dreary looking cabinets and wanted to spruce up our kitchen by painting our cabinets green. Because of that we reached out to a good amount of cabinet painters in the greater Sacramento region. Essential Cabinet Painting was not only the fastest but also the most thorough in providing a clear quote of everything that needed to done including how long it would take and a clear breakdown of all the services included. After comparing, even though it was not the cheapest, we felt that Essential would give the best value and assurance that our cabinets would come out looking great. They do get booked out which is testament that other people feel the same way so allocate some time for that! We got our cabinets painted in October and we reached out in the summer time. Painting all our cabinets took around a week, only a few days were onsite and some other days were done at their site. Devin did an amazing job sealing up our kitchen and making sure that everything in our kitchen would be protected and was extremely flexible throughout the process. One of the concerns we had was whether the cabinets would be smooth since we had builder grade new cabinets that were really smooth and we were worried that paint would make them tacky. This wasn't a problem at all with Devin because our cabinets turned out amazing! I booked them because of their incredible reviews. They were quick on a quote and great pricing. They finished the job by December 31st. It was a great way to enter the new year. However, within 2 months they had to come out multiple times to fix issues. They were professional and accommodating. However, they became frustrated when things kept going wrong and I was unhappy. As any customer would be after a project was having issues after just months. The owner then began blaming ME for the paint issues. After him and I got into an unpleasant conversation he agreed to fix it "one more time and that's it." After hanging up the phone he then blocked me. Somehow, the issues with paint chipping, within months of the job being complete, was blamed on me. Here we are, 6 months after the project, and so many cracks (see photos). They have a ton of happy customers who don't seem to have experienced what I have, so that's great! I do believe they do a great job so what's happening with my cabinets may be a fluke or maybe poor prep, I'm really not sure. However, just beware that IF there are issues they'll make you feel like it's your fault and refuse to make it right. I am not sure how I could be causing splits and cracks in the paint, that's a professional error and it sucks that the paint is doing this 6 months into the completed job. *his response below claims I made legal threats, which didn't happen. However, I could file a complaint with the BBB as well as the CSLB for failure to comply with your contract (given paint did not adhere correctly as it is splitting everywhere) but have yet to do so. I also never told you I had issues before, I told you I've had three kitchens repainted and NEVER had these kinds of issues. So again, lack of accountability and being upset with me is on you as the professional. Without saying anything else I've said, these pictures speak for themselves, they shouldn't be cracking everywhere 6mo later and that isn't a ME issue. read more

We had our kitchen cabinets painted and after a few weeks started noticing paint randomly flaking off on the cabinet doors. I waited a little while to see how severe this was going to be and it accumulated to a point I realized something was seriously wrong and they needed a total redo and not just a touch up. Every cabinet door that was painted sage green was flaking so I contacted Essential cabinets and Devin said he would contact his supplier to reorder paint and pick up the cabinet doors to re-paint. I followed up and was placed on the schedule a month out, May 19th. I never received any other communication and they did not show for the appointment. I sent a msg on the 20th stating I had expected them and asked if they were still willing to correct the paint job. I didn't hear back. I'm now going to have to find a new painter and hope to match the paint as well as his supplier. Avoid work with this company. read more

I highly recommend Essential Cabinet Painting. My cabinets are Alder and were in pretty good shape for being 17 years old with the exception of a few places in the cabinet frame where the dogs had damaged the cabinets with scratch marks and chewing. Devin and Isaiah filled and smoothed those areas out before painting. With the sanding, priming, and painting, I cannot see any grain underneath the white paint. When painting, the prep work is always the most important piece; otherwise you will have paint bleeding all over the place. Their prep work is very thorough and effective. I was quoted a three day job and they were done halfway into the third day. They were professional in all areas. I am absolutely thrilled with the way my cabinets came out! This view is a very long time in the making. I originally reached out to Devin in March for a quote for painting my kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Devin was super responsive and helpful. His bid was the best I received. After reading a few other reviews, I knew I would have to wait, but I wasn't expecting to wait 3 months, but I understand it is tough to be a small business these days. Unfortunately I had to reschedule my June appointment due to a family emergency. Devin was understanding and asked me for a time that worked for me. I eventually booked in late August. When late August came around I checked in with Devin to confirm that the cabinets were going to be painted. Unfortunately, Devin said that that date was no longer going to work because he had lost some guys and other jobs were taking longer than expected, etc. I informed Devin that I would have to reschedule at a different time as I am going back into the office for work and could not commit to any particular days at that time. About a week later I heard from Devin again and he was able to squeeze me in before I had to go back into the office for work. Devin and his team, Isaiah and MJ, arrived on time and got straight to work. They worked extremely hard for 3 days. My cabinets were a mess before - chipping in a lot of areas.
