We contacted several remodeling companies for our desired kitchen remodel. All of the companies scheduled an appointment two weeks out and came and took measurements and spoke to us about the remodel. Price wasn't our biggest concern. The biggest concern was quality of work, and length of time of the project. Each salesman that came talked about what they could do as a company. But as I spoke to them I did not get the impression that they had installed anything a day in their lives. I get it, they are designers and salesman, but I wanted the guy who has put some work in. After 3 or 4 companies I felt exhausted from the search for a contractor. I put in effort researching all media outlets, reviews, pictures etc. I was tired. I happened to be looking on a forum and saw that two people in the chat recommended Carlos from CG Construction. I immediately searched it and found his Yelp, website and facebook. The Yelp reviews were great. The photos look like quality craftsmanship. So I called him up. He answered and said he could come that evening at 5pm. I've had contractors over the years say they would show up on a certain day or at a certain time and I thought to myself "there was no way this guy is showing up at 5pm today". The whole afternoon was filled with me thinking "there's no way he's showing up today". I figured I'll get call at 445 saying something came up. To my astonishment he rolled up in his truck at 450. and at 459 he walked up to the front door and knocked at 5 o clock! In my head he had the job just because of that - but, we still needed to talk of course. I showed Carlos what we wanted to do. He was not a salesman...He just listed and shook his head. We were a little thrown off because he didn't sale, or excitedly talk about all they could do. He just listed a shook his head. After speaking about our ideas, he chimed in and explained how exactly they would do it. Then he gave clear reasoning why we should do one thing over the other. It became evident that he had a lot of experience not only in kitchen design, but also with install. We talked about his experience and it turns out that he had come up as a maintenance handyman, to working for a company, to heading out to build his own company. That was exactly what I was looking for - a contractor who knows the work because he has done the work, not just a salesman who talks a big game. Carlos provided us an estimate that was not only reasonable, but far better than any other quote from the other companies. We were excited to have found a contractor finally. Carlos and his team started the work, and I was pleased to see the same workers day in and day out. It means that he is not subbing out his work. The workers partitioned the kitchen area with plastic and completed demo in a day. They moved rather quickly and almost by the end of the week, cabinets were going in. Carlos managed the job well, even though he was not there himself all the time. His crew came everyday, and not just sporadically. They dedicated to our job and kept the project moving forward. We never had a period of time where we were waiting for the work to move forward. Carlos and his crew kept the site clean and organized. They hauled away all the debris and did not leave anything behind. They made sure to secure the house when they left for the day. As a avid DIYer I am aware of quality craftsmanship. It was one of my biggest concerns that I would encounter something I didn't like and would have to look at it everyday for the next 20 years. So I was present and watching the work as it progressed and I was satisfied with the quality of work. Especially the idea we had for our peninsula main counter area. Even as an avid DIY trim carpenter I couldn't figure how it could be done. I was blown away as they fabricated large pieces of wood to construct exactly what we wanted- Shout out to SERGIO! And the trim was on point- I'm talking perfectly square from 32nd's to 16th's of an inch. Not easy to do, especially with larger pieces. Carlos was easy to talk to, had great communication when he had questions or if he needed clarification on our design. Carlos was flexible with some change orders we made during the process which we were thankful for. If you are looking for contractor who can do the work, Carlos and his crew is who you want. Hiring CG Construction proved to be the best decision we made in 2020. Working with Carlos was effortless. There is surely something to be said about working with someone who owns the business rather than simply working as an employee for a company. So much more care and detail were put into his craft. If you allow him to, he can also offer some great expert advice about making the best decisions for your remodel, see the entertainment center he built in our photos section. CG Construction was not overly expensive nor was he the cheapest. However, don't be fooled by searching for the cheapest price out there. Every dollar you spent is put into time and effort. Carlos puts in 100% and makes sure things are done right. This includes but is not limited to applying extra coats of paint to taking his time cutting wood and stone carefully to make sure everything is precise and perfect. Additionally, he isn't some contractor that is going to charge your tens of thousands of dollars to simply repaint your cabinets and put in new doors. See our photos, Carlos completely gutted our kitchen, and made it brand new! On top of all this, Carlos is also a problem solver. For one he maximized our space by expanding all the storage. He somehow did this while making the kitchen larger by several square feet. Even more so, I had my own crazy demands for a range hood. I needed a hood that would pull 1400CFMs over my stove as I wanted to do blowtorch searing in the comfort of my own kitchen. This house simply didn't have the ducts that were wide enough to accommodate that type of airflow. Carlos came up with an ingenious way to get a new large duct from our kitchen in the center of the house to the outside without being very noticeable. One noteworthy things is Carlos and I didn't agree on how to paint he walls in our hallway. Our family room and living room were going to be two different colors and because of the way the house floor plan is, the two immediate options where to make a break in the colors on one wall or two have one wall on one side be one color and the other side be another color. Collaborating with Carlos was easy and ultimately very productive. We decided to add a framing to the end of the hallway to provide a natural cutoff. The best part is what I had in mind was nothing compared to what Carlos imagined for that door frame. By his creativity that framing not only became a functional natural cutoff to separate the two rooms, but he also made it look so good it actually provides a beautiful accent to the room. See the attached photos. All that considered if it wasn't for COVID he probably would have finished the project earlier than estimated. Delays were never caused by him rather it was due to our appliances and materials coming in late due to shipment issues. Despite these things he did manage to finish the project on time. Finally, and probably the most important part of all this is Carlos and his team are honest people. I've never had a project where there were at least a few minor issues that came up. Carlos and his team where honest and upfront about these things. They didn't wait for my wife and I to find things, they told us immediately and offered to rectify the issues. You simply don't see that in a lot of businesses or people these days. For that reason alone, I would say to hire CG Construction. If your planning on spending thousands of dollars on a remodel do yourself a favor and hire a quality contractor that puts his name behind his craft and business. We will for sure be hiring CG Construction for several larger projects in the future, one of which is taking some wasted open space on the second floor and expanding our master bedroom walk in closet.
