Disclaimer: He's my sister's boyfriend. Dis-disclaimer: If his work sucked, he'd get far more than a bad review. So, I had dry rot infect my money pit of a house, and after pilfering a friend's angieslist account, I got a builder willing to take it on. Dry rot is apparently holy water to contractor vampires. Once completed and I wrote out the check for what equated to a near new corolla, so I was looking for paint work to complete it on a budget. He had decided to strike out on his own, so I figured, what the heck. If he screws it up, he'll never hear the end of it. We timed it out to coincide with our own vacation so we weren't tracking in paint the whole time, and while the weather didn't exactly cooperate with him, he made time by paining long hours on the days he could. Additionally, he kept a clean workspace, and did a thorough job of cleanup at the end. The job was a little more than half what the next bid came in at, and was done ahead of schedule. I expected a great exterior paint job from Jeff and his team based on his reviews and they still managed to exceed my high expectations. They were meticulous in prepping the job, he caulked gaps and holes that were ignored by prior painters and even repaired a small piece of siding that had been damaged by dry rot. They ensured non-painted surfaces were protected, left the surrounding patio and walkways pristine upon completion and washed the windows. Even though it wasn't part of the original scope we discussed, Jeff also went on roof and painted some vents that were peeling. Despite not utilizing his painting services, his responses to inquiries are really quick and did not hesitate to provide his professional opinion for a consult. Wanted most of the interior of my house painted. I didn't want to do it. I spoke with a few painters. The only one to show up on time and get me a prompt estimate was Jeff. Not only was the estimate prompt it was VERY reasonable. Jeff was patient with my wife and I as we went back and forth on colors and scheduling the work. Jeff was flexible and very helpful in advising color schemes. The big thing and most important thing is I trust him. If you are going to have someone in your home, you have to trust them because you will not be standing over them the entire time. I trusted Jeff fully. First of all, I have never hired anyone to paint and have been painting rentals and my own houses interiors practically my whole life, so needless to say I am very picky. Jeff and his crew painted the exterior of our house, and they did it extremely well. This review is long overdue. Jeff painted the exterior of our home over the summer and did an outstanding job. It was not an easy task - the home is 80 years old and had not been taken care of over the years. There was major paint failure, dry-rot, stucco and trim issues and 100 degree temperatures. Jeff worked through all the obstacles and it now looks like the nicest house on the block. I called 4 painters. 1 didn't bother calling back. Another out of the Stockton area gave me a bootsy high ball estimate more for a much larger 2 story house sight unseen; and of the other 2 , one of which included Jeff, Baldwin Custom Painting. I met with both and after speaking with Jeff, my family and I decided that we would go with him. We felt he was honest (and that is WAY important to me), professional, and would do the best job of anyone. Jeff did all the work himself (and it was a LOT..I really think the paint on the house was the original and time of build..20 years..). The house was EXTREMELY dry and just plain BEAT UP by the sun. He prepped it painstakingly. Explained the steps to prep it to me as he was going along, explained his vision for the outcome (which was more than I could hope for), and gave me exactly what I wanted and needed. Prior to deciding on the paint color, he gently helped me by placing various selections of large patches side by side so that I could assess the curb appeal. The paint job done, when I came home the house just POPPED! It is so beautiful. The paint color is outstanding. The house looks fresh and loved. My excitement hasn't worn off yet... I'm so thrilled. I cannot WAIT to call Jeff after taxes so that he can take care of the inside of the house. I will refer Jeff over and over. GIVE HIM A CALL. I first learned about Baldwin Custom Painting from this Yelp page when I was searching for a reliable contractor to remove bathroom wallpaper, texture the walls, then paint them. Jeff contacted me the next day, responding immediately to the message I had sent him. Jeff made an appointment to come to my home a few days later, and we discussed the job I needed done. During our conversation I told Jeff about my ongoing search for a contractor to refinish just the worn sections of my wood stained kitchen and bathroom cabinets and drawers. After inspecting the worn areas in the walnut finished cabinetry, Jeff told me that he could also take care of that work as well. Jeff told me that he was about to leave on vacation and had several jobs when he returned; I assured Jeff that I would wait patiently until he had time to schedule my work after all I had waited more than 5 years to find a contractor who could complete both jobs. Jeff contacted via email in early December, telling me that he now had time to complete my work before my holiday guests arrived. Jeff's coworker showed up to remove the wallpaper and prepare the walls. Jeff came on the following day to texture the walls and begin the work on the kitchen and bathroom cabinets and drawers. I was amazed when I arrived home on Friday night to discover that both jobs were nearly completed. Jeff returned on Monday to put another coat of paint on the bathroom walls and to add another coat of shellac to the refinished parts of the cabinets and drawers. Jeff recently returned to my home to refinish my wood stained doorjambs and window sills and they look like new (just like my kitchen and bathroom cabinets)! If I could give him six or seven stars, I would. I contacted Jeff Baldwin or Baldwin Custom Painting based on the reviews on Yelp! He has been painting the interior of our home. He not only has been painting the ceilings and walls we had him repaint our kitchen cabinets. They were dirty and greasy, as the previous occupants of the home had not understood the concept of cleaning and had decided it would be okay to "touch up" the cabinets with the wrong color, over the grease. Jeff came in and listened to all of the things that I wanted, including repainting these disastrous cabinets. He did not visibly blink - though anyone with an IQ of 3 above plant life would have groaned on the inside :). After getting an idea of what I wanted, Jeff explained it would be better for us if we agreed to time and materials. I used to have my own paint and wallpapering business, so I knew what to expect. He did a great job. He spent hours sanding down the cabinet faces and doors to get off the greasy paint until he had a solid surface to paint. He carefully massed off the kitchen so he could spray the cabinet faces. Jeff was very patient as I figured out what colors I wanted to use in my home. It is a Spanish style home with saltillo tile and we creatively came up with a way to help the guys at the paint store capture the colors I wanted to us. He has always on time and consistently communicated when he would be at our home and when he would need to go by the paint store to pick up more paint and would be arriving later. I highly recommend Baldwin Custom Painting for any painting needs you may have. I contacted Jeff via email several months ago and requested an estimate, he was prompt in responding. He advised me he would be happy to accommodate me and give an estimate but that he was booked up and I may have to wait a few months for him to get to my project. I was more then willing to wait as I had seen so many good reviews on his work. My project was 1) painting the exterior of my house including painting my security windows and doors and window awnings 2) removing wall paper from a bedroom wall -texturing it and priming ( 3 old hideous layers). I also had a handicap ramp on my porch/driveway I needed removed and was at a loss who to have do that. Jeff said he could do it, which helped me tremendously. He and his assistant Gerry were prompt showing up each morning, they were polite, friendly,,neat and helpful . I cannot recommend Jeff highly enough. We had a few weeks between closing on a new house and the end of our lease, and I think we got incredibly lucky that Jeff had availability in that window. If he's open when you need him, I would recommend you hire him without delay. From our initial meeting I knew that he was a thoughtful, careful craftsman. He discussed how he'd approach various problem areas, and made a number of aesthetic recommendations without ever calling our own into question. He was patient as our own ideas evolved at the start of the job, and seemed to have anticipated some of our indecision. When problem areas revealed themselves and made the job harder (a ceiling that neither he nor we knew lay under a small roof leek; rot in some window frames; etc.) he didn't change his original estimate, and also gave good advice on how to address the issues in greater depth later. He was extremely conscientious about dust and debris (potentially containing lead from old paint), and gave us clear warnings about when it would or wouldn't be safe for us to enter the house with our kids to inspect or answer questions. He was friendly and approachable throughout the week-long project. Lastly, and most importantly, he did an AMAZING job. I've never been in a house with a nicer paint job. I've had Jeff do multiple projects for me. The first job was removing the wallpaper from my entry way and priming and painting the walls. Once he was done, No one would have ever known it was ever there. He painted my kitchen which was no easy task. I have many, many decorations and he took them all down and put them all back exactly where they were. He painted my living room walls and ceiling and it looks perfect now, it was dingy and dirty and he really brightened up the space. Finally he painted my family/dining room and helped me pick out a blue that I absolutely love. My walls had always been white, and it made it feel so much more updated with a new color. I can't recommend Jeff enough, he was so personable and made the whole experience feel so comfortable. I'm generally watching people like a hawk when they come to my house to do work, I never once felt like I had to do that with him. Thanks to Yelp I found Baldwin Custom Painting. Jeff was professional and personable-great energy! I received a fantastic bid for my kitchen. He was efficient and his work is very detailed. The room looks wonderful! I was having lighting installed as well and although I didn't think he should paint the ceiling until the lights were in place --he offered to paint it anyways. He said he didn't want the room to look so unfinished. My children really appreciated that and so did I. Especially, since it took a couple weeks between the two jobs. He will return when the Electrician is finished to paint the ceiling(again) without extra charge. Continuing a streak of 5-star reviews I am here to tell you how great Jeff is. He is very professional and takes real ownership of his jobs. If there is a question he returns until it is right, checking it in different lighting conditions. We had some ceiling areas painted after a remodel and he felt they were not quite right. When I tried to tell him to not worry about one small spot on a ceiling he tried to convince me to let him repaint it. It was bad drywall mud I said so don't waste your time but I think it frustrated him a bit because he wanted it perfect which I respect, but I did not want him to waste his time fixing the mudder's problems. From sanding, priming, painting and cleanup everything is done as discussed for a fair price and with excellent results. Highly recommend him for any paint job, inside or outside.
