I was hopeful this was going to be a good experience if not great. I'm used to years of excellent care but moving ended that. I'm diabetic and I've always been really great at managing it with one med and diet but moving here has derailed it a bit. I have had a total of 3 visits and one telehealth visit. The first visit was face to face with Dr. Cobbinah. It went well. Lab work ordered and everything was ok. 2nd visit (4 months later) was NOT with her but her NP, Maude. It went ok. We went over my labs and noted a slight elevation of my Hgb A1C but no changes with meds. I tried to stick to my way of eating which I find difficult between what I like to eat and my shift. Made the attempts but 3 months later I have a tele visit with a different NP, Smith, I believe. No complaints. We noticed the from the previous lab work that I had a significant jump from my norm. We worked out a plan that if I can't get back in control with my diet that I'd call and book an appointment for med changes. One month later, I book with Dr. Cobbinah because I'm now having symptoms. Here's where the one star comes into play. After my visit she places me on Insulin temporarily to get me back to baseline. She doesn't have in house capability to see what insurance pays for (my previous doctor did) so you don't have to waste time and delay treatment. That's ok, not every provider has this. She orders insulin my insurance doesn't cover and I would have had to pay $300 for. Ok, no problem, right? Walgreens lets them & me know insurance doesn't cover it. We both leave messages to her office. No action. Shorter version, even though I drastically changed my diet and continued to take my current medication, after multiple messages in the portal, via text etc., I was left with elevated blood sugars for almost two weeks. It took 2 weeks for her to reorder the insulin that was covered. 4 days before, I let them know which insulin was covered. The delay in care here was like nothing I've experienced anywhere. 3 providers in this place and not one could promptly order meds for a person with a critical lab value. Other observations: No matter what time your appointment is or how prepared you are, expect to wait 45 min to an hour to get seen. Dr. Cobbinah is not a good listener. I found that she hurried through and rarely made eye contact just typing away. If you're relatively well, you'll be fine here. As I said, my first visit went fine because there were no issues. The good? Her office staff and medical assistants are friendly. The MAs are listeners (the doctor just doesn't pay much attention to the information they collect). Final thoughts: if you're well and you live in the area, it's convenient. But if you're looking for a life long provider that can handle you having a setback or temporary/permanent decline as you age, this is not where I would go. I wouldn't drive from any other area of town to see a provider who doesn't listen and/or delays care. Delay in care is a serious thing. If I could score her zero stars, I would. read more

I'm am currently a victim of a potentially rabid dog attack.This office...My primary care. Refused to write me a life saving prescription in a timely manner so I can stay in network for the Rabavert vaccine that was issued mandatory by the state health department and under their advice and the advice of the doctor that kindly saw me at Baptist Hospital for dose 1 day zero.I pay $900 a month for insurance that doesn't seem to ever be there for me when I need it.Same for my my primary doctors office.I expect it to work for me in a crisis and I also expect my doctors to help set me up with reasonable care in a timely manner. I've had very little success coming here... I even put all the paperwork including the City Of San Antonio Animal Bite Exposure/Quarantine report in the patient portal to let them know before business hours just after discharge because I would need to be at work the day after and didn't have the ability to call when they opened.I was hoping they would have seen it and got a head start that way knowing it was a public health emergency and I would need to be worked in.If you see something like that among the "20 emails a day" they claim to receive it might just stand out a bit...Spark some interest maybe? I notified them even before I called the Rabies Surveillance nurse for the city. Not even he could get them to find a place to treat me within network. Since they were closing... They tried to set up a appointment with CVS supposedly and told the City Rabies Nurse on the phone that it was all set so the city nurse had me call CVS minute at Stone Oak and the minute clinic said they A.never talked to them and B.they didn't do it there at all.... Sending me on a goose chase AGAIN. Now I'm late and left at risk. As you may or may not already know it's a strict schedule to do the vaccination injections.4 vaccines all on a timeline. Dose 1 Day 0 Dose 2 Day 3 Dose 3 Day 7 Dose 4 Day 14 Dose 5 Day 28 This office wanted to force me into a virtual appointment at a additional cost to me to profit off my tragedy instead of just writing a prescription for a person in a potentially life threatening situation. Doctors swear to protect people under the hippocratoc oath that states they will cause no harm to others. This seems only performative now days since they are all share holder led corporations that all ran by medical group boards. This is a public health issue and I can die. If it was truly about a follow up appointment as a health concern. They would request a real in person visit after I got some footing and was maybe 3 or 4 vaccinations in and not try and strong arm bully me into a arbitrary teledoc appointment to issue me 4 separate invoices to profit off my tragedy.Chain mailing me little by little like a carney at the fair praying on the naive and desperate. The essential Med Clinic staff (Cindy) relayed that Dr.Cobbinah and Dr.Maude Escalante (who told me herself) they "gave me a option" and choose to leave me with a potential fatal condition that could quite possibly kill me.They would only give me a prescription IF they could extort me for a virtual appointment. A FRIVOLOUS virtual appointment that would be of course charged as a doctors visit (I confirmed that) even though they would not be able to really see me at all since they were closing at 12 on Friday. Fleecing a client in a desperate situation that can kill them is so unethical . All I needed was for my primary care office to do is step up and help me in a time of crisis to help keep me healthy and ALIVE and they wouldn't write a prescription to literally save my life without a extortion pre requisite. Always low key wondered if I could trust this place to be my Primary Care if I was in a serious accident.Had a gut feeling but my analysis is also based off a couple of prior incidents I won't mention in detail because of how embarrassed I was but I felt unseen and dismissed and there was definitely a condescending manner in which I was told to get some over the counter meds from at my visit 2 months ago in November. Where are the negative stars??? OmG... JUST NO. Many things, starting with ordering unnecessary tests just to charge me $340 additional to the rest, for a yearly check up. Freda barely looked at me, busy filling out surveys on her laptop. Lab lady took forever, appointment was at 11am and I was fasting. By the time they actually took my blood samples it was almost 1pm and I was about to faint and nauseous. Lab lady arguing with me because I refused the test they wanted to overcharge me for. They "don't email for security" but will text and call. "Paperless" but overall just not what I'm looking for in a provider AT ALL. Additionally, after having gone to pick up a paper and wasn't charged for it, they now claim I owe $3.37. That is literally a write off, but they want it paid. So they can take my money, give me my medical files and lose a patient for good. Will never recommend this place at all. read more

This medical facility is a joke! I will not be returning as a customer. I came in for an annual assessment only to end up with an office visit charge due to them coding it as an office visit instead of an annual assessment, all because there was a discussion of my medical conditions. Is that not the whole point of an annual assessment to assess how your condition is doing. I guess not. I wasn't aware that the doctor asking you questions about your condition would result in a medical bill. And they not make me aware that was the case as I stated I was in for an annual assessment. This place is a fraud. I guess I should not have talked to her during the visit to avoid being coded as an office visit. Then they want you to come back a week later to discuss lab results when that can be done via the phone, just to get another payment out of you. Never again. read more

After so many years going to this doctor, first time ever that they couldn't continue with my appointment because I didn't have a card to pay my copay, they canceled my appointment and said that they wouldn't be able to see me because they need to take my payment. Previous I didn't have money to pay my payment that time and they rolled it over for the next visit. Well the billing person or medical assistant called me demanding payment and when I told them that I didn't have my card because I lost, she said that they needed to collect my payment or they won't be able to see me on my telehealth. I told her then I guess I won't be able to see the doctor because of what you said then she threatened to send me to collections, I told her well have with that. I'm a patient that takes insulin for my diabetes and other medications that are needed for my day to day. I guess it's time to look for another doctor. My husband started with this clinic about 5 months ago. What started with a physical to include bloodwork, my husband realized that he was too young to be pre-diabetic with high cholesterol. Being the great dad he is, he was on a mission to lose weight and to live a healthier lifestyle for our daughter. Dr. Cobbinah provided assistance with this process, and offered support along the way. My husband has done a tremendous job with the staff and most importantly Dr. Freda Cobbinah at losing weight! Before this journey, he had several failed attempts at trying to lose weight, but nothing seemed to work. Dr. Cobbinah made the whole process so simple and easy and made him feel a 100% comfortable. I would definitely recommend this clinic to others who need a jump start to a healthy lifestyle. My husband started at close to 250 pounds, and is now under 200. I was referred to this clinic by someone since I was looking for a PCP. I have been struggling with inattentiveness, the inability to focus, and complete tasks. I decided to schedule an appointment to be seen for Adult ADHD. When I called to schedule the appointment, I specifically asked if I be seen as a new patient to be screened and treated for ADHD. "Yes, we can see you as a new patient for that" was told me to over the phone. I thanked the gentlemen and immediately scheduled an appointment online. I arrived at the office 20 minutes BEFORE my appointment (9:45a was my appointment), but didn't get checked into a room until about 10:55. After being checked in, the receptionist told me that my copay would be $150 since I hadn't met my deductible--okay. Then whenever I need medications refilled (which would be every 30 days), I had to be seen by the Doctor again and pay another amount of $80/each time-I complied. The medical assistant asked ALL OF THE SAME QUESTIONS that were in the new patient forms that I had JUST FILLED OUT. That was pretty frustrating because why are you asking me all of these questions again? The Dr. came in and was very standoffish in my opinion. She asked questions about my medical/personal history (medication allergies, surgeries, job, etc) and then asked if I wanted the flu vaccine. I told her no. She then said "What? You don't want the flu vaccine and you work around all those little kids?" NO! I do not want the flu vaccine and IF I did, I would have had it already. She then asks..."What are we seeing you for today?" This is annoying because how do you not know what I'm here for? I begin to tell her I would like to be evaluated/tested for ADHD. She asks what my symptoms are and I begin explaining. She the proceeds to tell me that SHE HAS TO REFER ME TO A PSYCHOLOGIST TO BE EVALUATED AND TESTED. Then from there, I can go to a psychiatrist or return to her office for medicine. Seriously? I have PPO insurance, I could have SKIPPED this phony visit and gone straight to a psychologist. The receptionist SHOULD have told me over the phone that Dr. Cobbinah could NOT DIAGNOSE AND TREAT ADHD and the appointment. She then tells me she will write a referral to a psychology clinic that she uses. The medical assistant tells me its not even in network for me. $150 later and the Dr barely listening to my lungs and heart, and I didn't accomplish what I set out to have done. Two weeks ago I came in for a lab draw. Check in told me I could make partial payment online but they couldn't do partial in person. So I did so. Two weeks later when I came in for results. CINDY at front hiding behind her computer screen rudely says I have a co pay for today and the $40 leftover balance. I asked if I could pay my $80 co pay now and the $40 online tomorrow. She rudely said no they can't do that. I reminded her I did this two weeks ago when I was here. Then she said we can only take partial payments online. I told her I would like to pay $80 now and the other partial online and she literally told me no she cannot do it. She needs to get it straight and listen to what she just said. I advised her that she makes no sense and was being rude. She passive aggressively told me I'm sorry you feel that way.... Making me angrier. I repeated what she said and said OK I'd like to pay partial payment online tomorrow and pay $80 now. Again she said we don't do that here Seriously CINDY just because you wear scrubs does not mean you have are educated nor are you nurse and definitely not professional. The facility is posh and inviting. Welcomed by a delightful office manager. Check-in was quick and the medical tech that did my vitals was friendly too. Dr. Cobinnah is a beautiful soul. This was my first visit and she took the time to get to know not only my medical history, but also asked about me, my background and how I managed my life. I left my previous provider because she was cold and disinterested (she only allowed 10 minutes and hurried patients out). Veterans need providers to take our injuries seriously. Dr. Cobinnah made recommendations for plans to address the root of my ailments and made me feel I actually mattered. She also invited me to events the clinic hosts. Very long waiting time even tho i had an apt. Spoke w the nurse practitioner my first visit, she interrupted me many times & when i told her there was a 0% chance i was pregnant, she still made me do a pregnancy test. i felt she wasn't taking me seriously just bc i'm young. next visit w a doctor, did not appreciate the implications she made when we discussed my weight. she seemed judgmental & made me very uncomfortable. definitely will not be attending ever again. ladies please go somewhere else, having female doctors make you feel insecure and uncomfortable when discussing private information is the last thing you need. 0/10 experience. read more

first of all, the wait time is super long, despite having appointments. it seems like there is no urgency within any of the employees. average waiting appointment time is around 30-40 min (this includes the time you walk in to the time dr. cobbinah comes in the room). even when she does come in the room, she talks with you for 5 min, makes you feel rushed & not heard, & then you leave. i feel like i am being judged when i come to discuss my eating habits, & it's all in all not a very good place to visit. it's clean & workers are average. nothing special abt this place at all. read more
