Picked up a 2008 335i, and after only a week of driving, the water pump exploded. There was some other small issues with the car that needed addressed, the exhaust rattled, the radiator was a half inch too low, wheels needed spacers, and most importantly needed to be smogged. Mark was ridiculously helpful and fixed all the little tideous problems and helped me to get the car smogged as well as fixing about 10 different leaks. I Couldn't recommend Essex imports enough. (Added bonus, Mark is hilarious.) read more

Brought my mercedes to this guy and asked to have parts replaced. He did not replace the parts I'd requested but said he did. Parts were $150 yet he charged me $1,400. He smoked in my car, burned a hole in the seat and found an empty beer can in the back seat. The guy is far honest and should close shop. read more

I brought in my 2018 Jaguar F-Type and Mark charged me 1/10 of what the Jaguar dealership quoted me in Seaside. Every other review you see about this shop is fake and junk food news, don't believe those other unsatisfied CHEAP people. Essex imports specializes in EXOTIC HIGH END MACHINES!!!! Super cars, Euro cars, and something foreign will come with a certain price tag that will leave very cheap and dissatisfied customers because these types of vehicles are not meant for cheap people. Overall I'd like to say I am 100% extremely satisfied with the work performed on my vehicle. The owner even detailed the car before I arrived and had it done in a few hours. Jaguar Monterey wouldn't take in my car for 4 weeks and told me they needed it for 3 days time, I had back in 2 hours at Essex. Mark, the owner and chief mechanic really knows cars, especially european cars. He can listen to your car and tell you exactly what is wrong with it, and what it will take to get your vehicle fixed. He may be short in words, and may be hard for some to understand due to his accent and mannerisms, but that has more to do with your misconceptions and perceptions than anything else. He is British, and if you are not used to that you might find it strange. But I can tell you frankly that he is a great mechanic. He is honest, yes, he is blunt, but that is a great thing when dealing with a mechanic. If you want the truth and to know what will be needed to get your car back on the road this is the shop to go to. Do yourself a favor and listen to a guy that knows your car better than you do in less than 5 minutes. Above all else, he stands by his work; something you rarely find in a mechanic. read more

This is a bad car shop. Don't take your car here. The car will never be fixed and will be charged for parts that were never installed. You will also never get a receipt for new parts installed. I have been having my Jaguars serviced with Essex Import Motors since the 1990's. My wife and I have always been exceedingly happy with the cheery and competent service. They said my car would be done in a week. It took a month. They waited till last minute for everything. Cash only and $1,100 later, I had to do more work on the car because of everything else they broke fixing my clutch: my battery was leaking, my motor mounts were ALL broken, and my strut mounts are botched.... I'm trying to get my money back because now I have to do $1,000+ MORE worth of work into my car because of how badly they dealt with my car. I reported them to BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) and I'm hoping to get my money back from them this way at the least. read more

My Bmw is not cheap to fix , especialy at the dealership! A friend recommended I try Essex Imports and I am glad I did! I thought this shop only worked on high end British cars, butMark ( the owner) works on all kinds of imports. Mark was very good about explaining to me what needed to be done and showed me all the things he replaced. I was happy with the service . Almost died on the free way with my sister on her vehicle because this piece of shit messed up other things on my sister's truck ... I had gone with him because this shop said this shop works on imported cars but he made the problem worse .. He messed up something which wasn't the problem in the first place .. had gone to him because of another problem .. he did some shit and as soon as we got on the free way the vehicle wasn't accelerating..and wasn't braking ... Almost crashed into other cars and semi trucks .... Long story short this piece of shit said he would fix the problem with no cost for Me.. at the end of the day i end up paying for what he fucked up.. I have reported him already and please dont go to him !!!!! My sister and I almost died on the freeway !!!!! Her vehicle wouldn't brake and almost crashed !!! i was ripped off big time...this guy is the worst...dont just "BEWARE" ...dont go there!!!! i made the mistake of giving him money up front for engine rebuild (shame on me...i trusted this guy...he had done some very minor work for me over a years period...one man shop. ) over a two year period while he had my car in and out of his shop....i had five blown head gaskets , and broken interior engine parts. in the end i lost $6000...and put up with lies , lies , lies...i finally walked away ! taking this guy to court is not worth it since he has no money anyways. if you care about your car...and your wallet....dont go anywhere near this shop !!!!!! read more
