I loved everything about this hidden gem. John, the barista shared in detail the 5 bean blend that makes their coffee special. He also highlighted the manual machine used to make the espresso. All I can say is that of all the coffee roasteries I've visited, and there are many, this is by far the smoothest roast I have ever had. Time to place an online order! Quaint nestled coffee shop that is shaded by native foliage that helps you forget you're in 100+ degree weather. Finally got to visit Esso after driving by so many times and wanting to try it! The coffee shop itself had a nice chill ambient charm to it. The staff was very meh. The girl at the counter wasn't too welcoming and when I had a question about something on the menu she just said look at the menu. The secret is out! This hidden gem is becoming a popular coffee/tea joint in the neighborhood. It has such a community feel to it. I used to only drink Starbucks but Esso was the first place to convert me. The espresso is so dang good. They also have a variety of specialty drinks that are so tasty. For example, white chocolate coconut latte and tumeric lemonade. Also Sharon the owner is quite sweet. If you are a restaurant or shop looking to buy beans, highly recommend. I really wanted to like this place. I want to support small businesses like this. I have been here 4 times now. I do feel as though the drinks are overpriced which is fine because I just don't tip if I'm getting a basic mocha and it's seven dollars... but besides the overpriced drinks the staff is incredibly unfriendly and rude. I have never been greeted when I walk in, they do not say thank you, and it is uncomfortable ordering every time... like they are annoyed that I am in there ordering a coffee. Hopefully this place stays in business but with poor service and over priced drinks in a strange location, it may be hard. I'll be going back to my old favorite coffee shop, Hava Java, even though it is a little far. I have been corrected by the owner. I did get an oat milk mocha... but it is still the most expensive oat milk mocha I've purchased, which is fine and I stated that earlier in my review. Really the overall reason I posted the review was due to the extremely unfriendly and unwelcoming customer service. Good luck! read more

What a great spot in PHX, incredibly clean and covid safe, you can take off masks when seated. John is my favorite coffee creater l, he's always offering a tip on sprucing up your cup of java. I appreciate the extra sprinkle of cinnamon on that bulletproof. Mct oil for the win!!! Brandon is also really friendly and a joy to talk plants with. Went to courtesy Chevrolet to get my oil changed (also a great place of business), and I searched in the area for a coffee shop. A few popped up, Starbucks, other basic coffee shops, and Esso. I walked about a half mile to Esso from the place where my car was at. As I walk up to this little cute and quaint business plaza, I see Esso Coffeehouse. The environment is pretty neat! My normal order is a black coffee or an almond milk latte. In order to see how the coffee itself tastes as well as how they are as baristas, I always order an almond milk latte at new coffee shops. This shows me how they pull a shot as well as if they burn the almond milk (since it steams at a lower temp). Short story long, their latte was amazing and I would 100% go here again, with or without my car being stuck at the dealership. read more

I definitely consider Esso one of the five star coffee houses in AZ. I love coffee and make it a point to always explore and experience independent coffee shops that really care about coffee. Esso is easily my top 5 coffee spots so far in AZ. Espresso was perfect, my latte was great. The music was low key so it made it easy to concentrate on the work I took to do there. Head barista knows her stuff too which I like... she was friendly and chill. Love this spot .. will be back for sure. I didn't eat any of the pastries here but they do have some. I really just came for the coffee .. can't go wrong in that area. Eventually I'll try something to eat I'm sure! Lol read more

Finally a rad little spot in midtown/uptown! The owner is very experienced and has been a barista for a long time! I love that it's not owned by an investor or some suit... by a real person with real talent! I got the iced chai (perfect) and cold brew. Now, I make my own cold brew at home and honestly never like any one else's ... but theirs was different! So smooth and perfect.
