I'm not a coffee fanatic, but I know when something is extra special, and this is it! I ordered your run of the mill sugar free vanilla latte, kind of my go-to in a Starbucks situation, and I don't know what it is, but Esso blows it out of the water. I feel like I need to sip it slowly in order to truly savor it. And usually, this is not really my approach to drinking coffee, I'm guilty of just "ordering it because it's there, and I'm in need of a pick up" kind of thing. Love the foliage surrounding the outside patio, and the baristas were welcoming and obviously great at what they do, not much more you can ask for, really. The artwork was interesting, and I really enjoyed the overall vibe. I was getting my oil changed across the street, and now I have a reason to look forward to waiting around while it gets done, lol! Hidden in plain sight behind a trellis of rare AZ greenery and urban industrial type architecture, Esso is sure to appease even the harshest critics in terms of ambience and coffee artistry. The owners here are quite blessed to have lead barista, Jess, behind the counter owning the experience. She's courteous, friendly and interesting to engage with on various unexpected topics. Any small business owner literally dreams of staff who represents their brand as genuinely as Jess. The regulars arriving just before me clearly had similar positive interactions. I also appreciate the easy internet access and modern design elements present here in this happy gem haven. Lots of variety in seating options both inside and outside, as well as, a bulletin board filled with local business referrals. The artwork here appears available for purchase in collaboration with local artists; an effort that I tend to treasure. This would be a good meeting place for a small group of people to gather and be productive. I'll for sure be adding Esso to my evolving rotation of favorite study locations. The only critical feedback I could really offer here is a desire for something on the menu with protein in it. read more

Fantastic, fresh, rich, toasty coffee that will make you happy with every sip. Absolutely love the americano and their brewed coffee. The location is nestled in a plaza full of small businesses and very cozy. Has comfortable seating with a large couch as well as small and large tables. Friendly staff. Highly recommend this place. I chose the drink since I'm a fan of tumeric, and I loved it. Just a heads up, it may not be for everyone if you are not familiar with tumeric, or it may be for those into cafe culture looking for something different and new. The atmosphere is also great. I "stumbled" upon this place on Highland trying to avoid Camelback and am glad I discovered it! A great vibe, intimate setting, great art on the walls, and above all, excellent coffee. It's a coffeehouse the kind you would see in neighborhoods in San Francisco, Portland, Montreal. Phoenix is so overrun by corporate America (Starbucks, Dutch Bros, Circle K!) that it needs more independent businesses like Esso that bring character, individuality, and creativity to an otherwise dull city. read more

On Tuesday April 6th, 2021 I purchased coffee here, I sat outside. After some minutes passed, there were other customers sitting nearby me and these customers were singing a song. An unusual song, which is rarly ever heard. Though, all I heard them sing was the chorus, so I started to vocally sing the whole song, from the beginning. As I began singing, these customers were pleased with exicted bouts of laughter and joy! I paused a moment to hear them. Then one of these customers wanted me to continue singing! I suppose they liked I was singing a song! So, I continued singing. Suddenly an employee of Esso comes before me, interrupts me while I was singing, and demands (not asks) me to leave! I asked why, he said it's my "bad attitude." I explained I was singing a song with these other singers..I asked one of these other customers, "was I bothering you?" These other customers were not bothered. One customer said to this rude employee my singing is a real "treat." Customers have rights! Songs have a right to be sung! I spoke with the owner, owner takes the side of this rude employee! I got no problem bringing my money to Starbucks! This employee was, Ehssso-rude. Oh, and parents of children BEWARE: There is a topless nude photo of an adult woman hanging on a canvas inside of Esso, her breasts are exposed. Might want to cover your childrens eyes. read more

I have been driving by this place and heard such great things. Went in for the first time today and started with a great experience. Employee was really nice and helpful. Then when we were waiting for our drinks another employee came out and completely ruined the experience. She called the first drink which was something I ordered but it turned out to be someone else's. My mistake I backed away and laughed. Then it happened again so I went up to the bar and got scolded by the woman employee saying that's not mine. I'm sorry customers ordered the same drinks. Maybe you should get names for the person who's ordering said drink. But instead the employee barked at me and made it super uncomfortable. This is my favorite coffee shop in midtown! Great drinks, cute decor, kind & attentive baristas, and of course - the art! Esso displays art from different local artists on a rotating monthly basis. It's always fun to see the new art each month. The Esso Soda (espresso, mocha, and sparkling water) is delicious and unique -- it's my go-to summer drink. In the winter I rotate between different hot lattes and often ask the baristas for suggestions. They never disappoint! read more

Great coffee and service, i ordered an iced honey latte, a keto iced coffee, and a sugar free vanilla latte. All were delicious. Of the three, the sugar free vanilla latte was my favorite. The parking was a little confusing but its worth figuring out, highly recommend this as far as quality goes. I really wanted to like this place because it's within waking distance from my house and I wanted it to become my regular coffee shop. The first visit the girl wasn't friendly and it was about 830am I thought to myself ya know maybe she's just not a morning person whatever. I tried again today and again, service just isn't there. The girl just isn't nice behind the counter and that's a big deal for me. I can get coffee anywhere bc it's basic coffee nothing exceptional and when you have non- exceptional coffee you need great customer service and this coffee shop just doesn't have it. There are many other coffee shops in the area I would recommend this one just isn't it. read more

I loved everything about this hidden gem. John, the barista shared in detail the 5 bean blend that makes their coffee special. He also highlighted the manual machine used to make the espresso. All I can say is that of all the coffee roasteries I've visited, and there are many, this is by far the smoothest roast I have ever had. Time to place an online order!
