Wow! Fantastic TexMex--so fresh and very delicious. I got a Shredded Chicken Bowl, and ala Subway, I worked my way down the line to the toppings artist and loaded up on veggies. The chicken was wonderfully flavored and the veggies were very fresh. Jalapeño slices that were freshly cut and zingy. Pico de gallo that was fresh and fantastic. Moved through the line very quickly and everyone was efficient and friendly. A few tables inside and picnic tables outside to dine at. They do have margaritas, but I didn't try one on this visit. I came here off the recommendations of others, and it did not disappoint. We wanted something that was casual and quick, but good. When we came in we were greeted and didn't have to wait to order. They made our food in front of us. Price is comparable to similar options. I enjoyed my burrito bowl with Spanish rice, chicken, and veggie toppings. There's not much seating inside, but many picnic tables outside that can fit large groups. Hope to come back when I'm around Iowa City. read more

This is the only breakfast burrito I'll eat in Iowa. They have a great early bird special from 7-10am! I love the "spicy"! The staff is extremely nice. Their new location now has seating too! A little bummed it's closer to my office. I might have a problem soon. read more

I have only been here once. The food was okay but I thought the ordering process was confusing and rather pricey for what you got.

I've been coming here pretty regularly for about a month now for lunch and every single time, Estela's never disappoints. I've tried their bowls & lunch burritos & found that though they are both great, I absolutely love the quesadillas. The ingredients are fresh, the employees handling the food are personable, friendly & keep the line clean & switch out gloves often. My pic of my quesadilla doesn't really do this place justice. The only thing I would have liked to have experienced was a cleaner restroom with paper towels &/or a foot handle to open the door after washing my hands. read more

If you want to support a local restaurant I would recommend this place! They have fresh pressed tortillas which are my favorite at any Mexican place. They have many meat options and veggies. I got the burrito bowl I think I got more cold toppings rather than warm ones because my bowl ended up being cold but I'm sure it was because of the quac and sour cream. They restaurant is doing its part in social distancing and having plexiglass up. It's a tad loud in there with the kitchen fans and the plexiglass doesn't help so you have to tell your order. But their outdoor patio is nice and quite and shaded for eating! Next time I'll have to get a burrito I've been reading that they are giant! read more

After seeing many posts about the taco hawk box, I knew I definitely had to try it. It is an amazing deal with so much food for a reasonable price. The tacos are delicious and authentic tasting, and the box will feed a family or provide leftovers for one or two people. The easy online order process also makes for a carefree experience. FRESH Mex is right. Wow, holy delicious. A friend and I went for breakfast and it was SO hard to not order the whole menu. Got a breakfast burrito the size of my head and I woke up today craving it again. Good thing I had half of it left since it was ginormous. The quality of food is incredible - everything tastes so fresh and delicious. The portions are super generous and the staff are the nicest people. Even their coffee is top notch. Estela's has been a nice addition to the food scene in the Iowa City/Coralville area. I love that they offer breakfast burritos all day, I feel like that sets them apart from some of the other similar places in the area. They have a lot of options from the classic burritos, tacos, and quesadillas as well as nachos, burrito bowls, and salads. I felt very safe going during cover to get takeout. They had plexiglass up between the customers and food as well as fans to help with air circulation. Although their restaurant is not open for dine-in, they had a few picnic benches set up outside to be able to eat your food there in the summer! I haven't had it myself, but I have heard good things about their Hawk Boxes that you can get to serve multiple people! read more

Amazing restaurant! We will stop again! We ordered online while driving through Iowa for pick up. We were tired of greasy fast food and this was exactly what we needed and completely worth the drive off of the interstate to pick up---so fresh and well made. Steak burritos were huge and well made. My steak salad was full of veggies, meat and toppings. Chips and queso was also a great treat and tasted amazing. We will be back again if we are near. I was heartbroken when Mami's in downtown IC closed down, but when I found out they were reopening as Estela's I was overjoyed -- and now with two locations! I moved from California to Iowa 7 years ago, and not having access to decent Mexican food was honestly really hard. Estela's does a wonderful job of balancing the white midwestern palate with authentic Mexican-American cooking. I can get my guajillo shredded chicken tacos and burritos while my friends get a bowl with ground beef covered in queso. It's like Chipotle but with the flavor of any "-bertos" restaurant back home. And you can't beat the fresh pressed tortillas, jarritos, and horchata! If every Pancheros in existence was replaced with Estela's, Iowa would be a much better (and significantly tastier) place. read more

Enter: Estela and her rad Hawk Box. $35. 12 tacos with homemade tortillas, two choices of fillings, rice & beans, chips & either guacamole or questo, 2 salsas (4oz each) and toppings (cheese, lettuce, and pico de gallo). DAMN. Everything was divine. The chicken was juicy, carnitas were flavorful, veggies were perfection... even the kid-friendly ground beef was amazing! The salsa verde and extra hot salsa were my favorites, though all of them are worth ordering. The queso was sneaky good, it may be the best in town?! (Dare I say?!) This location is super convenient and has a plethora of parking. Online ordering was also very slick. The tacos were a hit! super fresh tacos with awesome service! i loved my 3 steak tacos ($10) and horchata drink ($3). tried both corn and flour tortilla for tacos and loved the freshly made flour tortilla! i'm a huge fan of toppings and i love how i could get as many toppings as i want (i got rice, black beans, pico, cilantro, onions, jalapeños, mild salsa, and salsa verde). can't wait to come back for more tacos, or a burrito. read more

We pulled into town tonight and whipped open the Yelp app as soon as we were in our hotel room. Estela's looked pretty good, and it was the right call. We needed to do take out since we are traveling with the poochie dog. I ordered the light and fresh breakfast burrito bowl. The scrambled eggs sat on top of grilled peppers, onions, black beans and rice. There was a yummy cheese sauce on the rice on the bottom. Everything was super fresh, just enough spice, and the sauce was not super heavy. Just the right easy entree. Hubby ordered the carnitas burrito bowl, and he said it was great. We are from the southwest, and we are always happy to find good Mexican food that meets our AZ standards. read more

What a great discovery! I noticed the logo for Estela's when I was at Michael's in Coralville. It looked fresh and inviting. I cannot eat gluten and don't eat sugar or grains, so I wasn't sure I would find something to eat. Oh, was I wrong. Their salad--I had mine with pulled pork, my friend had shredded chicken--was delicious! The best of all was the service. Tyler (one of the owners) exemplified true Midwest hospitality. HOLY GUACAMOLE! I got myself a steak burrito, and horchata and my goodness I guarantee I'll be back for more. The burrito was HUGE. I mean two meals worth huge. That baby was chalk full of the good stuff that was as fresh as it comes. Pico de gallo, guac, jalapeños, corn, sour cream, queso.. and the horchata was the best companion to my burrito. The only thing that kind of stink was that the horchata was smaller than I was expecting, but that's ok because I had a water bottle with me. The gentleman that delivered my food was so nice! All the directions I provided were followed to a T. Which I only provided because I was at work at the time and we have specific rules to adhere to with visitors and deliveries. He was understanding, and his kindness was another reason why I feel good about ordering again. If you're craving a giant (DELICIOUS) burrito Estela's is the place to go. I am so happy they opened up a location in Coralville two minutes away from where I work. It's convenient for myself and for my coworkers, and the food is worth every penny!
