What a beautiful ride! The views of the Rockies are spectacular (of course). It is very well run and right near downtown with parking on site. The trams are smallish and we went up with 6 people on board (plus a wonderful, sweet operator named Michelle (she is so sweet...). Plenty of room and windows open on 3 sides! Up top there are trails and rocks and views in every direction. On the way down it was just the two of us and another very friendly and enjoyable operator named Lance. A second shout out to Michelle and Lance for making the experience that much more pleasant. Highy recommended! read more

The wife wanted to do this and it looked like fun so off we went. The cost in July 2026 is $40 for an adult and $25 for a kid. There is paid parking as well. There is a gift shop before you begin and at the top. The ride takes about 7=8 minutes each way. They have continuous one car up and one car down. Each car holds 8-10 people, depending on their weight. They do a good job of keeping groups together. The lines can be long and we waited about 45 minutes to go up and another 25 minutes on the way down. Once at the top, there are hiking trails, some great overlooks, and of course spectacular views. I would say that the views are worth the price. You can buy peanuts to feed the chipmunks, which seemed to be a popular activity. The chipmunks were happy and well fed. The reason for 4 stars is the long wait in line. The views are 5 star but you have to be patient for the payoff. read more

I love ascending whether by car, tram, train, funicular, or airplane! I had this experience on my list of things to do while on vacation when we visited the Rocky Mountain National Park. We finished taking the scenic drives around RMNP and went into Estes Park. I suggested we take the tram up the mountain before dinner. We arrived at the lower terminal. There's a parking lot available to park in for a fee. Handicap Parking is free. We went inside and bought our tickets for $35.96 each. There was no line to board the tram, so we went on out to the loading area. There's a gift shop here you can visit before going up. It is highly recommended to have a reservation (purchase tickets in advance)! Prices vary depending on day of the week and time. If you are a walk-in, the time slot you want may be sold out and you'll have to select an available time. Each tram accommodates 10 people. We had the car to ourselves along with the tram attendant. She was very friendly and we had a nice conversation. She lets riders in and out of the tram. The ride is fairly short (5 minutes each way) even though the tram doesn't travel terribly fast. There's an elevation gain of 1,029 ft. The upper terminal sits at 8,619 ft. This is a very smooth ride. The windows of the tram were wide open, which was great! At the upper terminal, there is an observation platform with telescopes, gift shop, picnic areas, restrooms, cafe, and a trail to the West Summit. The trail is .75 miles one way and is supposedly a fairly easy hike. There's a machine that spins fresh cotton candy and I had to try it! We bought a small bag of peanuts to feed the chipmunks, but it seemed like the birds got most of them. The view is breathtaking! We left the top around the golden hour and it was awesome! This is truly an amazing experience. The views of Estes Park are magnificent while on the tram and even more so when you reach your destination. If you opt to take the tram at a later time you can get a discount so it's worth looking into. The tram takes you up (smaller car, maybe 8 people max) to another gift shop, cafe, and some areas you can hike and scramble. The views are really good and you can hike to the top of the mountain there. The only issue we had was the one operator didn't wear deodorant and made the whole car stink. It was terrible. read more

Take the sky tram to the top of "Chipmunk Mountain" you won't be disappointed. The journey to the top is smooth and view is stunning. Once you reach the top, you'll get to the gift shop w/ mountain exploring behind it. There are picnic tables, so pack a lunch. If by chance you're not able to throw something together, there's a small cafe inside the gift shop. Beware, the chipmunks run these mountains and they are not afraid to make friends with you in exchange for something yummy! You're warned not to feed the chipmunks, but plenty of people had peanuts with them.. maybe I missed the memo about buying chipmunk approved snacks that you could buy to feed them? I have waited over 2 years for someone to buy this place and open it up and let me say it did not disappoint. We met the new owner who was absolutely awesome! Down on the ground level they have a gift shop that has so much cute stuff to buy souvenir wise. Then once you get on the tram which is around about a 2 min ride up is absolutely breath taking w the views. Once you get up there is some viewing area where you pay 25 cents to look through a telescope. The first building you pass is some seating and a few games. The next building is another shop plus a place to get food and drinks. I got a coffee which was pretty good. There is so many trails and so many spots to get good views of down below and better shots of the mountains up high. There is also chipmunks and squirrels that are super friendly and you can feed so don't forget your peanuts or you can buy some at the cafe for 3 bucks. We took the tram as a group of 5 in the afternoon this past week (august) and it was fun! There weren't any lines and we were able to hop right on! Visited Estes Park during the summer and was so excited to ride the historic Aerial Tramway. The adorable red cars and spectacular views made for a wonderful date for me & my spouse. I would have given 5 stars, but I felt like there were a few too many people crammed in the cars on the way up; the ride down was much more enjoyable with fewer people. Once you arrive at the top, make sure to wander all around. The views are beautiful and the little coffee shop/souvenir shop is super cute. Everyone who worked here was very friendly and kind. Cool place not too far from the town. The views at the top were amazing and there's a short walking train to the top where the towers are. The line gets long to wait to get on and to buy the tickets since the tram is small but it's worth it and the line wasn't too bad. You should should definitely put this on your to do list before you leave Estes Park. There was a line but it wasn't too long and it moved quickly. I don't even think we waited 10 minute to ride. Neat trip up the mountain and good sightseeing at the top! It was pretty windy/cold at the top so make sure to plan ahead if you get chilled easily. There is a little gift shop and cafe at the top & it looked like they might be working on a fuller cafe or bar? The are little chipmunks everywhere at the top and they are well fed on little bags of peanuts you can buy (someone gave us the rest of theirs so I'm not sure exactly where to buy them or how much they are). They're cute & they're everywhere! Plenty of places to climb around, take photos, or just sit & listen to the wind. The line can get a little long to go up/down since there are only 2 tram cars but it's not too bad (despite the weather). Just make sure you purchase your ticket ahead of time - tickets can be purchased on site but still only online via a QR code. Gift shop at the bottom as well but I think the one at the top is neater & has better stuff. read more

So glad this is open again, always a fun family friendly attraction to do when visiting Estes. A great easy hike at the top with beautiful views. I know they try to limit the line wait time by getting as many people up the hill as they can, but I really wish they wouldn't cram the tram so full. I would rather wait longer. Part of the experience is getting to ride the tram and it was pretty impossible to move or even try to take a photo when we have 10 people in the tram, right on top of you. Also, having to hold our toddler right at the open window level with no room to move is super scary. I would rather of had them stand in the tram, but since it was so crammed all small children had to be held up. read more

5 years later we took the tramway again. It's still as awesome as it was in 2016 (although it's been around since 1955). Pricing has increased $16 for adults and $10 for children. It's still worth the views. We thought that getting there early we would avoid long lines. We should have waited until later. We got there at 9:30 and waited at least 1 hour to ride to the top. When we returned about 12:30 the line was half as long. At the top is a gift shop and coffee shop. Plus lots of areas to enjoy the views and climb around and up rocks. Last time we were here we could feed the chipmunks and they would come right up to you for peanuts. This time we bought peanuts in the gift shop and despite searching everywhere we saw zero chipmunks. Maybe wait to buy them until you make sure there are some out and about. This is where to come if you want amazing views. The wait can be a little long, but it's definitely worth it. It's definitely more scary going up than coming down if you're someone who is afraid of heights. Once you get to the top, the views are amazing and there's a lot of places to walk around and see all around. The visitor shop sells a lot of souvenirs and they also have a snack bar that sells sandwiches and drinks. The snack bar also sell bags of peanuts to feed the squirrels that are running around up there. Honestly feeding the squirrels was the best part of the whole thing. They're scared of humans so they won't come too close, but if you throw peanuts at them from a distance they'll take it. The only negative of this place is the same thing that I mostly fine wrong with all the places that I like - other people who are there. People are not considerate of others and will walk right in front of you while they know you're trying to take a picture. read more

We started off our Monday morning July 25, 2022 at the Estes Aerial Tramway. We got there 30min before it opened (9am) and thank goodness we did! The line was super long by the time we returned. The staff was nice. The site overlooking Estes was breathtaking!! The ride up and down was so much fun! We had some delicious morning coffee overlooking the mountain. They had a cute shop. We then did a little climbing and hiking, took some pictures, and my daughter fed the Chipmunks . The chipmunks literally went up to her and took the peanuts (sold in the store) from her hand. What an awesome view on Estes Park! While it was a bit crowded (think: Disneyland ride without the fast pass), we enjoyed going up the tramway and spending some time soaking in the view. The space inside the tram, itself, is a bit cramped --- so just be aware of that. In case you prefer a certain parameter around you, this might not be for you. Access to the seems to be ADA compliant, with ramps, also! At the top, there are multiple view points, and you can walk around the area to see different sides. There is also a little gift shop up there with snacks! Who knew! read more

A visit to Estes Park would not be complete without riding the Estes Park Aerial Tramway. This is a popular tourist attraction for a very good reason. The views are beyond amazing and the ride up and back is an experience worth doing. Tickets are $16 for anyone ages 12-59. Ages 60 and over are $14 and kids ages 5-11 are $10. The best time to go is early in the day or later in the day. They open at 9:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. They have a gift shop at the top with restrooms and snacks. You can also purchase peanuts for $2 a scoop to feed the chipmunks. I recommend buying just 1 scoop at a time. The fires of 2020 reduced the chipmunk population so there aren't a ton of chipmunks looking for food yet. read more

Entertaining out of state guests a few times a year I was happy to find a new thrill up in the Estes Park region (specifically since my park pass just expired). The Tramway was easy to locate (once we got through the congested downtown Estes Park - which totally surprised me on a Friday morning). The parking was ample and I was thankful to have my sun shield (not may trees in the parking lot). We saw some fun facts posted outside the tram center and easily found our way in and to the restrooms). The man at the ticket counter was super friendly and didn't mind breaking a large bill I happened to have in my wallet. He also gave us the great tip about purchasing peanuts at the gift shop/restaurant for the friendly squirrels that awaited us. Both trams were running on this day and it was about a 15-20 minute wait. The tram is for up to 8 adults (noted a couple more entering when children were riding as well). People in line were in a good mood and friendly. The family ahead of us encouraged us to go on ahead of them to fill a couple of spaces in an incoming tram. The ride up was beautiful, swift, and slightly stomach churning (it was a little windy so our tram weaved side to side a bit). Once at the top we had spectacular views of the town and National Park. The gift shop featured lots of goodies, from postcards, to elk salt and pepper shakers, Smore's inspired pens, and other chatchkes. The cafe/restaurant had lots of sugary treats, drinks, and sandwiches. We opted for the bag of peanuts (1 scoop is 50 cents) for the squirrels. Once outside we noted at least a half dozen children running round trying to entice the obtuse squirrels. We eventually befriended a few (both children and squirrels). We snapped some good pics and headed back down the tram. Great day, great price, and beautiful scenery. Will definitely visit again. read more

Was very unsure about what his experience would be after we arrived. It was so much fun and was definitely worth the wait. We went the first day to try to get tickets but couldn't get in because they were full. The second day we went and we were able to get tickets since we got there much earlier. We made a reservation and had to come back late in the afternoon. It was totally worth the wait. So much fun. It takes you up and you get to see the Overlook and it's exciting. Dear Turistas: The Tramway is a pleasant diversion with outstanding views that's been functioning summers only (Memorial Day to Labor Day) since 1955. (1) Is it reasonably priced? Depends on what you think is reasonable. As of summer 2017, it is $14 for adults and $10 for kids (11 and under). I paid it, took the spouse and kid. I haven't been on the tramway in close to forty years. (2) Is it wheelchair accessible? Sort of. You can probably fit one conventional wheelchair onboard, most certainly not the motorized scooter type. There is room for approximately eight people standing up, give or take, depending on the physical size of the person. Wheelchair accessibility is better at the top of the tramway, where you can roll around the observation area and into the gift shop and coffee place. Otherwise, not so much. We couldn't figure out where to roll a wheelchair into the loading area down below, but again, we didn't investigate this thoroughly. (3) Food and beverage selection? Back in the olden days, there was actually an old school lunch counter at the top, where you could get burgers, fries and ice cream. Now there's an espresso machine and a blender for smoothies, a selection of pastries and snack foods, which includes mediocre pre-made sandwiches. Not cheap, but not as expensive as a stadium or airport. But you can bring your own food and beverages and have a picnic at one of the many tables. In fact, I'd recommend it. Do NOT bring a picnic basket or cooler, because they likely won't be allowed in the tram - use a backpack or tote. (4) Check the weather, pack accordingly. They do have sweatshirts and rain ponchos available for sale. But if there's lightning and/or strong winds, they shut the tram down until the weather improves, and then you're stuck making a purchase if you didn't prepare. And then getting off the mountain will resemble an evacuation. The temperature can drop thirty degrees rather quickly, and if you're waiting in the mostly civilized line to escape, you will get wet. Pretend you're in the Colorado mountains, not at a shopping mall. Be ready for inclement weather at all times. (5) You can still feed the chipmunks and ground squirrels like back in less enlightened times. You can still buy peanuts to do this. PLEASE DON'T DO THIS. I know it's tempting, but generations of people have created generations of aggressive rodents. These cute little guys still get rabies and bubonic plague. And yes, there are three known bears in the area. If bears get used to humans, it means death for the bear - and possibly a dumb human. The tramway operators keep the bears at bay with paintball guns and ammonia-filled water balloons. Respect the wildlife - this ain't a petting zoo. (6) It gets busy. Don't go on the weekends unless you're prepared to be patient, and maybe don't go if the parking lot is filled. First thing in the morning is a good time. If you get up there before the rain hits, and you're stuck during the weather delay, be kind to your fellow visitors, give the older and disabled folks your chair or bench, and there are books and games available. Don't panic. You won't be stuck up there overnight. Depending on what you bring to the experience clearly is an indicator of your outcome. P.S. - The douche who referred to the area at the top as "Compton" in his review has clearly never been to Compton. I have. There are no drive-bys, no chicken and waffles - NOT Compton. You ride with 8-9 other people. It doesn't seem crowded. Everyone has access to an open window to look out of. The best part is the exploring and hiking that you can do once you reach the top.
