I've never gotten braids before. I went in with a picture of wanted and I did not get it. Heidi the owner was nice. And then the other girl who took over for her was nice also. But I kept asking them about the shape of the part. I wanted square parts and the length at my chest. I look in the mirror and the parts are all kinds of crooked and the length (which she told me she would trim after boiling them) is PAST MY BRA. I had to do my own trimming at home. Our neighbor suggested this place and said they always do a great job. She was right. My daughter has been there three times and each time has been pretty perfect. We call the day before and schedule for the first morning appointment. There's always an appointment available for her. She has very thick and a lot of 4b hair and I'm always shocked how fast they do it and how perfect it looks. This is the spot for box braids. read more

I'm not completely happy with the treatment I received there, but I'm not really mad either. Mind you, I DID NOT GET MY HAIR DONE THERE!! Here's the situation: a couple days ago I walked in and asked how much would it be for them to simply rebraid my hairline. Hattie originally quoted me $65, but I talked her down to $50. I was happy with the agreed upon price, so I told her I would be back tomorrow afternoon after I finished running around. I asked her what time they closed and she said 7p but they take the last person around 6p. I got to the shop the next day before 4p and the "open" sign in the window was lit, but the door was locked. I figured there must've been only one person working and maybe she needed a break, so I walked back to my car and called the number on the front door and left a message saying I was there and waiting. 5 min later, Hattie returned my call and said some other lady was just there and asked me to hold while she tried locating her. She called right back saying the lady didn't answer. Then she apologized for her absence and said she'd continue calling and asked for my patience. I told her I'd wait for a few before leaving. She called back just as I was leaving to tell me the lady had gone for the day and offered to do my hair herself the following morning. I declined and told her I'd just go somewhere else and sincerely apologized. As I was getting my hair done at another location (Amy's Hair Braiding next to the McDonald's up the street... and she only charged me $40), Hattie texted me to see if I had found someone to do my hair, apologized again, and offered to do my hair the next time for a reduced price. I'm still debating whether or not to take her up on that offer. read more

I initially gave them 5 stars but I had to remove a couple of stars. The last few times have pissed me off. I'll call in advance and ask what time do they open on Saturday and they'll tell me 10am. I arrive at 9:45-9:50 so I can be first and no one shows up until 10:30. This happened three times in a row. Each time the excuse is "we were here until 2am in the morning last night." I honestly could care less!! If you choose to stay late to secure a bag, I don't blame you, but change your opening time if it causes a delay the following morning! The first time it happened I was okay with it but since it's happened two more times after that, I'm certain that this is the norm and that is unacceptable! My next issue was how although my daughter was first, as soon as I left, they did someone else's hair before hers, making her wait even longer!! Terrible customer service by taking advantage of a teenager because they knew they could! Also, the last (and final) time that I went there, after waiting, the woman who showed up first asked me what I wanted. I explained it to her, and showed her a picture. She looked a bit confused and I asked her was she good to make sure she understood. She said yes, and started braiding tight as hell. I couldn't wait for her to be done and finally she was...she gave me the mirror and my hair looked nothing like the picture! I told her I HATED it! Everyone in there looked confused (knowing it looked horrible). I paid, and walked to my car and thought about how it was no way I was going to walk around for weeks looking like that. I went back in and and told her to take it out and told her to give me my money back! I went elsewhere, paid $5 more but had it done exactly how I wanted, minus feeling like my brain was being pulled out. If you choose to go here, Fatima and Hattie are really good, and there are some others, but if the person you happen to go to looks uncertain, believe the look on their face so you won't be disappointed later!!! read more

I been going here since 2008 and my hair has ALWAYS turns out beautiful. I love this place... Usually most braiders will braid too tight and thats the main reason the hair falls out, but when I ask for my hair to be done loose they never fail to make me happy.. My first experience with this shop was great so when I wanted to get my braids redone I decided to go back. I made an appointment this time to avoid the sit and wait game you often run into in these shops. I arrived on time and found that there was no one to do my hair. The person that I was scheduled with has started on someone else and there was no one else in the shop. They said someone was coming. I proceeded to wait an additional hour and a half for someone to show up and they behaved as if this was an okay practice. Needless to say I was very disappointed. I'm only giving the shop an extra STAR because my hair is well braided, because I want to give them one. My hair was not braided like what I asked for and showed via picture. Next, my appt was for 9 am....I called the shop while en route at 8:30 and was told to come at 10 because they needed more time. I agreed and arrived at 10:15 am, only to be told someone was on their way. I waited another hour and a half for someone to show up and start. She started at 11:58 am, but the first hour was spent doing 10 single individuals....because she would do one braid and text for 3 minutes. Several times I started to get up and walk out but I needed my hair done. I interjected several times to ensure my hair was braided like the picture I showed, but the lady was huffy and ensured me she didn't need to see the pic. Meanwhile, she stopped to do another lady's hair and I just had to wait.--hungry and tired.Needless to say, I left the shop at 8:30 pm, so nearly 12 hours for some design cornrows. Again, as another commenter said....do not come here unless you have HOURS to wait for something simple. I missed my nail appt, picking up my dry cleaning and my BFFs party. There is no such thing as an appt here. You will just have to waste a whole day. read more

My first impression/visit to Ethnic Braids was very nice, I went first to meet the owner Haddy, she greeted me with a smile upon meeting and I scheduled my braid style for the next day, Saturday, August 20, 2016. I arrived was met by Hadijah and immediately seated in the styling chair, she also greeted me with a smile and handshake (pleasurable).
