So this is a great gym to work out in on a regular basis. The equipment is a bit outdated but it all works and serves the purpose. However, this week I received an email from the gym with threw me- it's an email promoting a church service stating "It will be a Christian faith based message taught out of the Bible". I was not aware this was what appears to be a " faith based " gym. I signed a year contract so now I need to see how I can exit my membership as this is not what I had signed up for. But if this fits your lifestyle, then this gym will be a great fit for you , ** update - I spoke with the gym and I was assured it was not faith based . ** For more clarity I would suggest you contact the gym directly.

I joined this gym 3 years back and it was cool even when Joe took over. Not too busy and a good…read morelocation with all the basic equipment. But after a couple months of the new ownership, Joe just became erratic. I have no issue with his religious stance but honestly I don't think bible verses and crosses belong in the gym. It makes people who aren't of that faith feel excluded and uncomfortable. Also, the crosses are made out of duct tape fyi. Plus his Instagram videos are so off putting. Lots of swearing and drinking, you really get a good glimpse of what this guy is like. He even went so far to stroke his ego to try and make a movie about himself. He could have definitely used that money instead to purchase new equipment for the gym. The poor gym has outdated equipment from the early 2000's, but don't fret he also installed a boxing arcade game that's not even plugged in and has no business being in a gym. The seats on some of the equipment are completely ripped through and he just put duct tape over it like a bandaid. He gets super defensive of anyone that makes complaints to the point where he's just trying to come off intimidating. The bathrooms are so sick. They are RARELY cleaned and always lacking products (toilet paper, soap, toilet seat covers). The smell is so unbearable and the trash is never taken out. I eventually had to cancel my membership, but he makes it near impossible. You can only cancel it through him and he will make sure not to return your calls, texts, or emails and by the time he does he'll make you pay for one more additional month before "cancelling". I suggest for anyone trying to cancel, once he "allows " you to cancel, make sure to call your card company and have the payments stopped from being charged. Because what he is notoriously known for is continuing to charge ex-members since he never gets rid of your card information. This business isn't even BBB verified because they don't respond to complaints. He also has people writing fake reviews on yelp with 5 stars and coincidentally there's no detailed information about the gym lol. I eventually left because this place was stressing me out and I couldn't continue coming to a gym where I felt unwanted and under appreciated. Also, this gym used to cost $50 a month and recently when I looked at the new prices I COULD NOT believe that it is now $100 per month. And for what? Outdated equipment, a lack of proper cleaning practices, and the trauma from having to deal with Joe's shady business practices.

Kayla is our favorite instructor, hear and elsewhere. It's a busy class so need to get there early to get a good spot. Came over from calfit/in-shape and like it much better. Nicer to have a big wide open layout than a maze of rooms. The City Sports app works great for check-ins and it's easy to find a class we like. The app at the old place made it really hard to find classes.

I called around 12pm and was told they were at lunch and would call back. I didn't get a call back, so I called again around 1:30 and was told they were still out. I waited another two hours (around 3:30pm), called back and was told they'd call me back around 4pm. Finally at 4:30pm, Jared finally called back, only to be told that the pricing we had previously discussed went from $55/month to $65/month. I understood that there was a price difference and was okay with it. Jared had quoted me what was going to be due upfront, roughly $270. I said okay and proceeded to give my credit card information and was told I was good to go. Five minutes later, I get a text from Jared stating the price mentioned did not include the two guest passes, which I had stated from the beginning to include the price. Overall, it was unprofessional to have me waiting four hours for a call just to be told the wrong price after giving my card information.

Adj: Good and Getting to Great, gratefully…read more Gym's been improving, nooks and crannies could still use more deep cleaning once a year at least, but the ledges are not so dusty anymore. I know those window sills, etc. are very hard to keep up as dust just descend and cake on pretty quickly, but I appreciate the efforts to keep those ledges at least partially clean. Staff remain cheerful and welcoming, and many of them are doing a lot more cleaning, dusting, emptying trash cans, refilling paper towels, sprays, and wipes, and some of them vacuum. It's all getting better and it seems more and more people are coming to this location, so the cleaning will need to be kept up. The swimming pool certainly is a big draw, people want to do their lap swimming and with no pool at the Pocket location, the Greenhaven branch becomes the default for this area, so I'm noticing more new members. Women's locker room look better now, no more overfilling feminine products disposal bins. Sometimes the floor is still wet, so maybe more mopping up every couple of hours or for a staff to check or even just leave a mop for members to mop up the wet floor is a good idea so people don't slip and fall, especially since this location has a lot more senior gym members who have been coming to this location back from when it was Greenhaven Racquet Club. Anyhow, sometimes the women's locker room is TOO cold, the AC is turned WAY high, and other times it's like completely off and stuffy, so maybe moderate that. Finally, lately the women's sauna was down, and it was fixed within a few days so that was good. Hope this gym branch will continue to improve as it is a pretty nice community here, the staff are friendlier here.

Antonio the new manager has beefed up the upkeep of the gym overall. Sometimes the men's locker room could use some more periodic mopping of the floors for safety as well as cleanliness, but this location is still the cleanest one south of downtown and closest clean one to us. Staff are friendly and helpful, especially Ajay and Connor. They are taking on much more janitorial duties than we've seen staff at other locations doing so. Notably, Ajay and Jasmine we've seen clean quite a lot, as well as the older gentleman who's a new staff (have not gotten his name yet), my wife saw him vacuum late one evening this week, and Antonio himself sets an example. We appreciate his leadership to set the bar higher. The gym is older, but MOST of the staff are doing their best at keeping the gym in good shape, some staff do less though, I won't name names. Members do pay attention... But all in all, staff are all available and helpful.

Adj: Inconsistent…read more This is our second most visited branch in the In-Shape network of fitness locations. So we come here quite a bit. Unfortunately, this location's cleanliness continues to be an area that shows much room for improvement. Some of the more popular cardio machines like the Precor elliptical and the Matrix lateral ellipticals are consistently stained with sweat and/or dirty. Seems no one cleans them, only members like myself wipe the most touched parts down, but those are not necessarily where they get most dirty b/c shoes trekking in mud and leaves would leave behind dirt and gunk on the pedals and no one is wiping those down. Overall, this location is quite big with an extensive selection of equipment, many of which I don't see at some of the smaller locations, so I think there is a lot offered here. However, the sauna and steam rooms are both co-ed which we do not prefer and they are often too crowded w/very hot and sweaty people, so I end up not going in to use the sauna whereas at other locations, the sauna is in the women's locker room and there's usually plenty of space. Speaking of the women's locker room, it is actually pretty clean at this location most of the time. There's not the level of soap scum, grime, left behind wet plastic bags IN showers, flooded/wet floors, and dirty toilets like at the Natomas location. I'm super grateful for that since this Pocket location is much closer to us. There are also plenty of temporary storage lockers and most of them are operational and pretty clean, another good thing compared to locations such as Bond, Laguna, and esp Natomas where the lockers are old, run down, beat up, dirty, and many don't even work anymore. Hopefully, with new members being added during the New Year's period when many people sign up for the gym in line with their new year's resolutions that In-Shape will also devote more staff and give them time to do some deep cleaning. Final note: we do really like the staff here, there's been some staff changes over the several years we've been members, and they've all been quite friendly and helpful. I particular appreciate Ryan, who's always positive and he makes excellent smoothies my whole family enjoys as a reward to ourselves for working out!

The men's locker room ran out of toilet paper and there's some soap scum in the showers. Perhaps they're relying too much on front desk and general staff to clean bathrooms and showers, and I've not seen dedicated janitorial staff at this location in a long time so maybe there's no such staff anymore, which puts a lot more burden on the other staff. In-Shape seems to think members can do all the cleaning of equipment but of course everyone only wipe down areas they touch before using the equipment, but when the personS before you drip sweat all over the machine, you're unlikely to wipe down the whole thing. Overall, the staff are friendly and we particularly like Ryan who's professional and makes great protein smoothies, but I think everyone might be stretched thin in the cleaning dept.
