The $8 "Salt cod fritters" were the blandest thing I've ever eaten, and my Mother served Tuna surprise every Thursday for 15 years. Loved this cute little coffee shop in Fall River. Nothing is better than visiting Fall River, MA and enjoying all the foods and culture of Acores,Portugal. We stopped by for breakfast and ordered sandwiches and lattes. The sandwich was warmed with Portuguese chorizo and sao Jorge cheese....so yummy! It was perfect alongside my oatmilk latte. The pastries and options are great. I should've grabbed some of the pastels de nata because they looked so delicious! The service was great. She took our order and they brought the food to our table and it was so fresh! This will definitely be a regular spot when I'm visiting. So freaking good!! My family and I stopped in for some galãos and pasteis de nata. Their pasteis de nata did not disappoint. They were perfect! We tried the original and coconut. The original reigns supreme for me. I also loved the galaos. They definitely had a very extensive sandwich menu as well. We were excited to try the Pasteis de Nata after hearing that they were 2nd place in a local competition. The cafe was buzzing with people who look like this is their neighborhood hangout- all ages, laughing and having a lovely time. It is a sunny cafe and has a nice vibe. The boards behind the cashier and digital rotating menus. The pastries are nicely displayed and the service was friendly. We walked away with our box of pastries. We couldn't wait to eat them in so we gobbled a couple in the parking lot and they were delightful. The filling was creamy and delicious. The pastry was flaky and good, not mind-blowing. The reason I am not giving 5 stars is because by the time we got home, the pastries took on a taste of a perfumy cleaner, like Fabioso. I'm pretty shocked that this place doesn't have more reviews and a hell of a lot more pictures because it's a pretty popular little place in Fall River which has yummy Portuguese goods, such as custard tarts. Extremely friendly as well, and one of the many highlights of stopping in this little industrial town that time has forgotten, to get some treats. And apparently you can only come here in the Fall. The food is amazing. A small bakery that focuses on authentic fresh made Portuguese baked goods and sandwiches . Their popovers were so light and tasty we couldn't stop with just one. The traditional egg custard is divine- something about the flakiness of the crust- it literally won an award recently. You should be able to tell by the customers continually coming in that this place has some good Portuguese pastries! I had the egg sandwich on a Portuguese roll, its just a normal egg sandwich, but it's very good. The prices are some of the cheapest I've seen for Portuguese items. $2.50 for a for few different sandwiches that are about 8 inches long and are completely stuffed with steak or chorizo. I don't know of many places that will beat these prices! The reason this place is only getting 4 stars is because the customer service is pathetic! Usually I would kill the ratings of a place like this due to the poor service, but I can't deny the good stuff that they have here. I probably saw 20 people or so coming in while I was eating here and not one smile or any sign of happiness coming from behind the counter. I'm from LA. Traditional Portuguese pastries are very expensive. Here? $1! Who sells hand made Natas for $1? A dozen for $11! And the flavor? Perfect for my snobby tongue. We ordered cappuccinos. From the exterior, this place is very unassuming, so much so that I nearly walked right past it. Once inside, it was obvious this is a favorite amongst the locals. No fancy pants beaucoup bucks desserts here, rather, a plethora of Portuguese pastries that wont break the bank or your heart. I've been coming to this café for years, and it always feels like a treat when I visit! This is the kind of place where you can sit down with a friend to enjoy a nice coffee and pastry in a comfortable atmosphere. After an awesome and very heavy portuguese lunch, we had a hankering for Galao so we stopped by Europa for coffee and pastries. Beautiful array of queizada and Portuguese pastries. My MIL was talking about Portuguese fried dough on the way there and said it's different from American fried dough (which I find bland and tasteless), so I had to try. Imagine portuguese sweet bread dough deep fried: amazing moist, chewy, yellow,eggy crumb structure with large holes, a hint of citrus zest, and sprinkle of sugar. YUM!!!!!! Galao was also nice an the coffee had the right amount of strength. Pasteis de nata has the perfect crust: soft in the right places, crispy on the edge; and perfect slightly caramelized custard that isn't too sweet! They also carry Massa sweetbread, traditional portuguese table bread, Portuguese sandwiches with cod, ham, chourico, etc. Definitely a place to stop by whenever you find yourself in Fall River. read more
