Exceeded my expectations. I got the breakfast bowl special which has farro, peppers, onions, potatoes, and topped with an egg - it was a really tasty bowl. The ingredients were actually cooked together and well seasoned making for a cohesive dish rather than one of those bowls that just dumps separate ingredients into a bowl that lacks flavor. Would get this again for sure. My only complaint is that my egg was covered in black specs which appeared to be burnt cast iron residue. The honey lavender scone was also great - nice texture - almost biscuit like tbh, and the lavender flavor was a little too subtle for me to really taste, but I still enjoyed it. The place is cute as well but be warned they don't let you use a laptop here which I'm not a fan of. I didn't have a laptop on me but I know a lot of people like to go to cafes and do some work. We stopped in today and Groundswell was hopping! A line out the door and an employee directing traffic. Not a problem though as the line moved quickly. The cafe itself is absolutely gorgeous. One of the nicest cafes I've ever seen. Decorated perfectly and had numerous goodies to sell. It was packed but we didn't have trouble finding a place to stand. The menu is pretty limited but that made it easy to choose what we wanted. The employee who served us was very accommodating and friendly. She answered any questions we had with no issues. I ended up ordering a leek quiche and chai tea latte. The total for two drinks, a quiche, and a sandwich came out to $56. Definitely way too pricey to do this often. The food came out quickly. My latte was delicious but for $8 it should be. Mostly ice as well. My quiche was not as delicious though. It was barely lukewarm and pretty bland. For $19 I also found the portion to be pretty small. Definitely not something I would order again. My partner enjoyed his sandwich but said it was also small for the price and the bread was a bit too crusty. Overall, it's a beautiful venue and a nice experience but I wouldn't rush back on my next trip to Tiverton. read more

I have been coming to this part of Rhode Island and Massachusetts for close to four decades, and its magic has always been its refusal to perform. Little Compton, Tiverton, and Westport have an old New England intelligence: practical, coastal, and allergic to excess. The mood is L.L.Bean utility, Patagonia values, and Helly Hansen competence, with a little yacht club literacy and none of the theater. Groundswell respects that world, then adds candlelight, espresso, and French mischief. There is practical brilliance in having a venue this chic nearby, because city slickers inevitably visit, and family members must sometimes be kept happy even when their taste tests our patience. The cafe is the heart of the experience for me. The building was previously The Provender, which we loved, and Groundswell deepened our fondness for that chapter rather than simply replacing what came before it. There is a French ease to the venue, patio, and food, as though someone raised between Paris and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat came to New England, fell hard for its privacy, then built the dream cafe they wished existed. It has continental polish, but the soul is still Rhode Island. Even when the cafe is busy, it works beautifully. The line moves through the building in an intuitive U-shaped flow, showing that someone thought carefully about summer traffic while preserving intimacy. The food comes quickly, but not instantly, and that distinction matters; do not come here in a rush. I am hazy on the full menu, but the yogurt parfait, cinnamon toast, and Caesar salad have stayed with me, and I am pretty sure someone in my family had a turkey and pesto sandwich that looked exactly right. The pace is deliberate, and the point is to savor the coffee, the patio, and people-watching. The pricing feels appropriate, especially for a seasonal business with only a few intense months to make the year work. Nothing feels careless here, which is rare for an experience built so carefully around atmosphere. That sense of intention is what makes it feel polished without becoming stiff. I deeply respect seeing David on site in early July. He is the designer, owner, and operator I recognize as the face of the business, though I am sure many talented people are involved. He is warm, kind, and hands-on, with experience and wisdom evident in a subtle, understated way. He embodies Groundswell's soul and upholds the brand standard in person without making it feel rigid. The broader Groundswell property also makes the whole experience feel original. The shops and garden spaces are intensely charming, with a level of discernment that makes you slow down and look harder. The home goods, gardening pieces, and table settings are so tasteful that I always leave thinking I would be thrilled to have David and his team design my home. I can imagine that eye in the city or near the beach, and just as easily in a country house or alpine retreat. What Groundswell brings to this community is the perfect amount of change. This region is timeless, but every timeless community benefits from careful progress when sprinkled with respect, proportion, and self-awareness. I have not yet been to David's Bristol restaurant, The Franklin, but after seeing the pride he pours into Groundswell, I want to go soon. I do not know the full Groundswell Design Group portfolio, but I suspect this Tiverton project is a crown jewel: something he loves deeply, almost like a child, and the culmination of decades of work, research, and self-criticism; it gives this community French flair, northeastern discernment, and a welcome venue to gather: Très bien! read more

When it comes to charming cafes for breakfast or lunch, places simply don't get more charming than Groundswell Cafe and Bakery. Located in Tiverton Four Corners, Groundswell's interior captures the essence of a French boulangerie, while the wrap-around front porch delivers a nostalgic Americana feel. But no matter where you land a seat, you'll enjoy the food fare. My peep's go-to's are the Croque Monsieur for breakfast or lunch and the Waygu Roast Beef. But we've also enjoyed the Egg White Veggie Wrap, quiche choices and the Turkey Pesto sando. All the sandwiches are on homemade breads, from baguettes and croisssants to buckwheats and ciabattas. Don't forget dessert!!!! We love the ginger molasses cookies when they are available in fall/winter, and chocolate croissants any time of the year!! Part of the fun of making the trip to Groundswell is exploring the gourmet kitchen store (Table & Provisions) next door and the home decor shop (Garden & Home) across the way. Groundswell is an absolutely beautiful cafe with an attached gorgeous store. The aesthetic of both spots is impressive with a lot of cool things to buy at the store. In terms of the cafe and bakery I actually only bought a chocolate croissant. It cost around 7 dollars which made me gasp but it truly was the best chocolate croissant I've ever had in my life. I should have tried a coffee so I could really get a feel for what they offer. I'll definitely go back if I'm in the area. read more

Just taking a drive and exploring beautiful Rhode Island in the off-season and we stumbled upon Groundswell. What a great find! First we passed it on the way down to the lighthouse but stopped on our way back and so glad we did! It's a perfect place to enjoy some scrumptious treats and warm up in winter with some delicious beverages. I opted for a latte and it was so good. I purchased their coffee beans too so i can savor the wonderful memories we had. There is some seating inside and you can also take your food/drinks outside and sit by an adorable fire pit. My husband had a delicious beet salad and I opted for a blueberry ...i think it was a big glorified muffin of some sort. It was very good. So good i didn't even get a photo! I wish we had more time to spend at Groundswell. I could have spent hours there. We will definitely be back! And there's also a great store next door that has amazing homegoods. 10/10!! read more

Looking for an amazing little coffee shop? This is it great food, an amazing coffee. I ordered the Croquet madame. A classic French sandwich with ham, Greyere cheese, and a Bischel sauce that was perfect. The freight egg on top was cooked too perfection. The service was excellent. You are greeted by friendly workers. Who make you feel at home. My wife ordered the onion quiche and she thoroughly enjoyed it. After some intense estate saling () in Little Compton, we stopped at Groundswell for breakfast. Their signature breakfast sandwiches were outstanding! Mine had bacon, my wife's turkey sausage. Both were extremely tasty. The turkey sausage was more filling. The side salads were a great accompaniment. Topped it all off with a couple of delicious cappuccinos and a loaf of sour dough bread to take home. Not inexpensive but you get what you pay for. Driving into the Groundswell parking lot, you feel like you're being transported into the movie The Secret Garden. Even in the doldrums of Rhode Island winter, the compound is bountiful with plant life. I call it a compound because this place is a series of buildings: garden & home, table & provisions and the café. Today, I brought my mother and sister to the café. I love the aesthetics of this spot. You feel like you're entering a special place. A mixture of vibes, it gives French bistro blended with American millennial nature core. This cafe is cozy to the max, with a small amount of seating and even less place to stand if you're waiting for a to-go. Your best bet is to order online and swoop in right when it's ready, or come on a nice weather day and enjoy it outside where the seating is somewhat plentiful. The service was great, the woman at the counter was friendly and helpful as we placed our order. We managed to find a seat and soon our order was brought to us, which I felt was a thoughtful step to the service. I had an iced tea and the sweet potato falafel. I must say, it was fantastic! The ciabatta was warm, slightly crispy on the exterior but soft and chewy on the interior. I had never experienced sweet potato falafel and it was lovely, smooth and tasty. The pickled vegetables and lemon aioli were a nice touch, completing the dish and creating a wonderful, harmonious bite. It came with a side salad that was not only delicious but beautiful as well with a mix of radish, tomatoes and edible flower petals. Staying for a short off-season winter break in a home near Horseneck Beach, I found Groundswell Café + Bakery in Tiverton, Rhode Island for breakfast - perfect! It was about a 20-minute drive from the beach area, a drive that was worth the price of admission all by itself. Dry stone wall-works throughout the region, with handsome turn-of-the-century houses and stunning vistas. Groundswell encompasses a two-story local wares and gifts shop, and is home to a wonderful café, with a couple of niches for small groups (I think there was a book club meeting there the morning I visited), and community tables for the rest of us. I went in search of the café's Quiche Lorraine and was not disappointed. A five-inch diameter puff (house made quiche with ham, bacon, Gruyère cheese, side salad) ($14.50), piping hot and very well presented by an attentive and congenial staff. That, plus a large hot chocolate ($6.50), and I was in heaven. I loved the signage that reassured us (while cajoling us) to keep our tablets, iPhones, and laptops closed during our visit - suggesting that the cafe was designed for conversations with other humans, not indulging in screen time. While the prices are a bit high, the quality makes it worth it. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Groundswell has both a beautiful interior and welcoming outside patio area to come with family and friends to sit and relax and enjoy a treat or meal together. All of their pastries were delicious - chocolate chip cookie, oatmeal raisin cookie, banana bread, and vegan morning glory muffin. We opted for some coffee drinks as well and enjoyed them all - hot chai latte, iced latte, and nitro cold brew. While this visit we did not have any lunch, the dishes at many of the tables nearby looked and smelled excellent - salads, sandwiches and paninis all around. This is probably my favorite cafe in Rhode Island. I love everything about it, from the decor to the fancy European chocolates they carry to the picturesque outdoor seating. I love that they have sweets and baked goods as well as "real" food. My mom and I shared a turkey and brie sandwich and a butternut squash and mushroom bowl, and we were so full from lunch that neither of us needed dinner. It was delicious. Also, you have to go to the table and provision, store, next-door, and the home and garden section. Granted, I can't leave without purchasing some thing, but they are the most thoughtfully, curated shops I've ever seen. If I had unlimited wealth, I would spend it all here! A corner coffee shop with French vibes, we came as a group for our monthly coffee meet up. A variety of pastries are on display, along with a menu of items to order. I ordered the quiche of the day and it came with a side salad. The quiche was rich and buttery- oh soooo good! The dressing on the salad was on point. The gals at the counter were super sweet. What rubbed me the wrong way was the little signs on the tables asking people to not sit for more than an hour. What kind of hospitality is that??? Now no one really enforced this, but we still felt rushed, which in turn makes it hard to enjoy the conversations. To me it just sends the wrong message. My daughter got an egg sandwich which was cold. $50 for 2 specialty coffees ( tasted none of the flavor), the small quiche, and egg sandwich. $50! And good luck finding a place to sit. A good friend, who is known for his donut reviews, had made the claim that Groundswell had the best donuts around. Being a pretty bold claim, we had to check it out! Sadly, upon arrival, we discovered that they do not make donuts on any scheduled day, simply when the baker feels like making them... kind of odd, but at least they did have some other tasty pastries to try so our trip was not a total loss. The pastries were good, but not in the go out of your way to get some kind of good. If we hear that there are donuts, we may have to come back and give them another try. read more

Situated right at the intersection of Tiverton Four Corners, this recently renovated cafe is a must visit in Tiverton. The combination of the old traditional New England Victorian building and the modern cafe is very pleasing to the eyes and other senses. When I walked in, the cafe was not too busy but had the cappuccino machine going with the distinct milk streamer sound. The smell and the sight was very inviting; ended up ordering more than what can possible eat or drink, including some coffee. The sandwich, although it was pre-made, got it from the grab and go fridge, it was still fresh and good texture of the baguette, fresh cut tomatoes and lettuce atop mozzarella and pesto. It was a bit pricey for a sandwich but given a generous portion of pesto on fresh mozz, I will lwt it go. The cafe is a little more than just coffee and scones. It seems to have a full array of sandwiches, breakfast and lunch items. I have yo come back and try more food items; I also need to plan on spending more time across the street at the gift shop. We came here last winter and it was fantastic. Cappuccinos and croissants were on point. Today (mid August) we stopped on our way out of town. My cappuccino was such a disappointment - the milk was frothed to stiff peaks and the espresso was flat and boring. I expected more for $6.50.
