Let me start by saying I would have sworn I had already done this!...... After going thru the dry cleaners and then a shop in West Sacramento I finally went to European on Eastern Ave. Mostly because I lived on that street and it was close to home. Am I glad I did!!!! Michael is THE MAN for tailoring and alterations. He is a true tailor. Not just somebody with scissors and a sewing machine. Michael can build a suit from scratch. The man wears a tie to work! He is polite and professional but most of all he is REALLY GOOD at what he does. First, if your know anything at all about properly fitted slacks, you know that the crease in front should have 1 break. While some "fashion styles" have trousers bunched-up at the bottom, a well dressed man knows what looks right. Second, it's almost impossible to buy properly fitting garments off the rack. So I buy un-hemmed slacks from Haggar online and Michael does the rest. Sleeve length is a challenge for me. Again, if you know anything about clothes, you know that neck size and sleeve length are how to buy a shirt and chest size is how you buy a coat or jacket. For these, they are never quite the right fit for me. Close. But not perfect. I took a inexpensive sport coat to Michael to have the sleeve length adjusted after having the same coat done TWICE at a shop in West Sacramento. The length was never right and the lining was bunched-up at the wrist. A seamstress might be good at wedding gowns but take your jacket to a REAL tailor! Michael immediately recognized that my arms are not exactly the same length and he adjusted them accordingly. He explained to me the different "looks" regarding how much cuff shows. (think James Bond) He can do how ever you want but there is a "standard" and I deferred to his judgment. The coat fits perfectly. Since then I have taken him a full length wool coat that he fitted and I love wearing it when it's cold enough outside. I took him a suede jacket that the sleeves were too long. Because it has cuffs, Michael said he would have to remove the sleeve and shorten it at the shoulder!! I have to admit that I was not too sure about this one but when I got it back, I was amazed!! That sleeve looks like it was never touched and the liner inside shows no evidence what so ever that it had been modified. It's an amazing piece of work and shows the true skill level that Michael posses. That's why he has my new black leather jacket right now. I can't stand the sleeves touching the back of my hand because they are too long and took it to Michael to make it perfect. Looking good because you actually wore a tie for date night and looking GREAT and getting compliments on the clothes you are wearing is a BIG difference. Our last date night I got two compliments from strangers on my long coat. But more importantly to me, I know I'm looking very "James Bond" when I take my wife out on a date. And here's the kicker....it really doesn't cost that much when you consider how expensive the clothes are in the first place! So, if you're like me and you want to look your absolute best, then go see Michael and let him do his magic. You will be glad you did. read more

Update: picked up my skirts on Wednesday afternoon with no problem (other than it being a day later than originally agreed upon). My total was $61 - about as much as expected, though a little pricey for me. Skirts look and fit great! Update: dropped a star. Came to pick up my skirts at the indicated time, was told they would be ready tomorrow. Owner said he left a message on my phone yesterday, but we soon realized he had the incorrect area code (my area code is the ubiquitous 916, not 316 so a rather silly mistake.) fine, again, no hurry, but I certainly expected to have my items by the originally scheduled time. I brought in two pencil skirts to be altered - one a thicker jersey-like fabric with a broad elastic waste to be hemmed and taken in at the waist (I am a short curvy latina) and one more classic pencil skirt just taken in at the waist. The owner was friendly, warm, and professional, thorough but quick with measuring. I am not in any rush, so I will be picking up Tuesday afternoon (dropped off on wednesday). Will update, but so far, 5 stars for service. I'm a young professional on a budget, and this review is geared towards others who, like me, are trying to get well-fitting interview/professional clothing for reasonable prices. read more

Michael is a great guy, he has great knowledge of tailoring and alterations, I have had 2 suits that were too large altered for me. No small feat, the suits were at least 2 + sizes too big. What he did made it look like a piece of cake. They turned out great and his prices are very affordable. I was afraid that good quality work wasn't going to be in my budget but after meeting him I felt relieved. Keep in mind he usually takes Mondays off, so call ahead, you won't be able to get fitted when he's not around but they stay open for pick ups I believe. On a second visit I brought two different coats to him to reduce the chest and waist as well as the sleeves. The first was a wool overcoat which came out remarkably well and I'm wearing it daily for the cold weather. The second is a leather coat which I was quite worried, reading online guides and FAQs a leather coat is really difficult to tailor because leather leaves marks and any errors will be difficult to correct. Once again this came out to a great fit, exactly how I wanted it before I walked out of there. Trusted hands and great craftsmanship make him a tailor whose going to be saved in my phone book. read more

2 stars for a pleasant and nice personality. Took a jacket to get the sleeve shorten and he suggested to slim it a little. 2 weeks later at fitting found out that jacket sleeve was tighten so much and I could barely raise my arms, had to wait another week to fix the sleeve. He upsold me on the sleeve and screwed it up, I even had to suggest the refund. The quality of the stitching was horrible, and very sloppy. They even rip cuffs with doing the work, that he fixed on the spot on the 2nd visit. The jacket is pretty much ruined. Also took my pants in for shortening at the same time, which I was overcharged for $10. Beware, check all quality after the alteration and expect a long wait for work to be done. Don't know how he's gotten 5 stars but suspecting his Russian community is doing him a favor. read more

I've had a few things tailored here and have been quite pleased with the results. Having tried a handful of tailors in Sacramento (and other cities I've lived in over the years), Michael has thus far been the best. His prices are on the lower end, too! Most recently I had him do a number of alterations on a 3-piece suit -- he modified the shoulders and back of the jacket to accommodate some injury-related asymmetry, took the jacket, shirt, and vest in at the waist and through the torso, shortened the jacket sleeves a smidge, and took the butt/thighs out on the pants. All together, this cost somewhere around $130; I've uploaded some pictures of the results. I will certainly continue to use Michael for my tailoring needs and encourage others to do the same! read more

Very disappointed; in myself as much as this business. I should have just taken one test garment for tailoring instead of the four pieces I brought: three pairs of pants and a dress. The pants were to be taken in the waist and the pant legs; one pair to be shortened as well. The dress was to be taken in and the round collar changed to a V-neck. When I picked up my $182 order, the dress collar was a square neck. I was adamant about the neckline on my dress, I look best in a V-neck and stressed that type of neckline several times. The tailor said it was a misunderstanding. I did not try on the garments before I left. I was disgusted, paid and left. When I got home and tried on the pants, they were indeed taken in in the waist, but no adjustment appeared to be made to the legs. They look like clown pants. The pants I wanted shortened were not. When I initially went, the tailor seemed to be taking notes. I did not give him in writing what I specifically wanted, which is what I should have done. Then I would have some recourse to not pay or ask for further readjustment. The tailor did not offer to waive the cost of ruining my dress. I did not call and complain about the pants. It is because I do not want this man to every touch my clothing again. read more

Great work done on my Hugo Boss suit! I had my suit worked on by Michael the owner. He made all the right measurements to make my suit a slim fit suit. I came back afterwords noting that the arms of the suit didn't seem to lay right and he fixed both arms perfectly. His prices are reasonable for the amount of time it takes to do these alterations. Took my regular, loose-fitting suit here to tailor it to a more modern, slim fit. This place carefully listened to what I wanted to do with my suit, pinned and measured the suit on me, then worked their magic the next few days. The suit now looks and fits amazing!!! Had the suit jacket taken in, shortened the length and sleeves and also slimmed the sleeves down. Additionally, had my suit pants hemmed and slimmed down as well. I dreaded taking my two thirteen year old sons in to have suits altered, their comment as we left "that wasn't bad at all"! I bought one suit at Nordstrom Rack they were going to charge $10 for hemming the pants I bought from them, and double for the second suit that I'd bought elsewhere. European Alterations hemmed three pairs of pants, altered the waist and seat of one of the pairs of pants and added two buttons to a suit jacket for $40, and had it done in just a few days.
