Our mattress wore out.........after NINETEEN YEARS, so we bought another one this January. In 2007, I was having excruciating back pain so was buying and returning various mattresses one after another. Finally I found our European Sleep Works Mattress and could sleep comfortably again. It developed a bit of a sunk in spot two years ago so needed to be replaced. Our new mattress is every bit as comfortable as the first one. We expect it will prove equally durable. I'm so grateful we didn't need to go one a year long quest again to find a superb mattress. I did read the post mentioning mold smell in the showroom. We noticed that too. We were not there long enough to be affected and the mattresses are not made or stored there so it didn't bother us, but we felt some concern for the staff working there full time. I suspect the smell could be a big negative from a marketing perspective. Fortunately, we already had great confidence in the product. read more

European Sleep Works is one of the best companies I have ever dealt with! Outstanding products, prices and customer service! I'm a 70 year old man and have had back issues for more than 10 years and hip issues for 5 years. During that time I have bought five or six mattresses, including Tempur-pedic, Sealey, Beautyrest and others that I can't remember! European Sleep Works is the only company that I know of in the San Francisco Bay Area that allows you to customize your mattress. I started out with a mattress that had two different layers of latex foam of two different grades of density. Those weren't quite firm enough so I traded the less dense one for another dense one. That was still not firm enough so they suggested adding a firming pad and removing one of the foam pads. It worked! Because the mattress is customizable, if after a year or two the foam pad softens up, I can open up the mattress and put in a new pad . The sales people were very knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating and worked patiently with me and all of my issues! I could tell that they genuinely cared about my comfort and health. The delivery guys were also very knowledgeable and friendly. Because I went from the Nordic mattress, which has two foam pads, to the Alpine mattress, which has only one, I received a refund for the difference between the mattresses and saved $400! Mattress shopping can be confusing and frustrating, but once my husband and I decided to buy a European Sleepworks mattress, it was almost entirely fun. We have been happily sleeping on our new mattress and foundation for one week--an immense improvement! Our only hesitation in buying from ESW is that we live in Yolo county, so the delivery was somewhat costly, but it was entirely worth it. A big thank you to the delivery guys, who were perfect and extremely helpful. The fun part was Michelle who helped us patiently and with humor. I think that ESW does not pay commissions to its employees, which is wonderful for customers like my husband who likes to take his time. Two friends recently purchased from European Sleep works and claim to have "restful sleep and one of the best investments." Hmmm.... My review is for my recent visit and the service received by Natalie. With so many mattress options its hard to determine which mattress is better for you or what you're body is used to. Visited on a Sunday at opening and was quickly greeted by Natalie. A friend had purchased her mattress the week prior and mentioned Natalie was great to work with! My mattress is about 10 years old and have been told its time to get a new one after rotating, flipping it, and adjusting it over time its just not optimum. Yeah, i cringe at the thought as its still functional but I get it.... Natalie asked for mattress preference (soft, firm), if i was a back, side sleeper, etc and suggested trying a few. I tend to prefer a firmer mattress with pressure reduction (luxury is lost on me with a soft, pillowy and airy feel like the nice hotels) and tried about 5. To be honest, its hard to determine unless they allowed me to nap on a few...."dont mind me (looking at other customers) just trying out the mattress" but unfortunately, not an option. :) It's almost like doing an eye test....1 or 2, 2 or 1...is 1 better than 2? how about 3? Arrgggh Natalie was patient and narrowed down to 2 options. Two years ago I bought a European Sleep Works Latex Classic mattress. The store service was great. I even swapped out one layer after a trial period based on their comfort guarantee. Here's the problem: if you need to sit on the bed repeatedly in the same spot, such as when talking on the phone, the top latex layer stretches out and deforms the side of the mattress. I spoke with customer service about this problem and was told, "our beds are made for sleeping, not for sitting on." The representative advised me to unzip the cover from the mattress and tug the latex back into place. This is easier said than done, and I have done it twice already. I replaced a Royal Pedic mattress I had for over 20 years; my ESW mattress is a royal pain. read more

Have had innerspring in the past, currently sleep on an aging, failing memory foam mattress. Staffer was helpful and attentive. Part Two (Delivery): Delivered when scheduled. Removed old mattress and done in less than half an hour. Mattress is 8 years old now and still like new. Incredibly comfortable and not hot and grabby like memory foam. We had five excellent years on our European sleep system, and then we moved and the movers somehow got the assembly and personal custom adjustments completely messed up on installing the bed in our new home. After suffering for a few weeks, we called for help, and were absolutely amazed at the warm welcome back and that they still had all the data from our initial purchase! One of those 'WOW!' moments. European Sleep Works team was at our home within days, and completely reassembled the bed correctly, resetting the slat adjustments to our original specs, all within an hour or so. Alan and I bought our bed here 10 or 15 years ago. I'm not sure why I didn't review it then, because the experience was very good, from the sales staff to the delivery and setup and the bed remains very comfortable. The sales staff allowed us to lie on the beds and test out the pillows w/ absolutely no pressure to buy anything. The experience was good enough that I recommended them to my friend Kathy, who was looking for a new bed, and she ended up buying one from them. We bought one w/ a simple, lovely walnut frame. I liked that they came back and repositioned the slats for us when they weren't quite right. When Alan was still at home we would rotate the mattress periodically, but I can't do that alone since he moved into assisted living, but it doesn't seem to be a problem. The bed is very comfortable and I sleep well in it. We also got our pillows here, a thinner one for me and a thicker one for Alan, although I have appropriated his pillow over the past year or two as it gives me more support as a side sleeper. Yesterday I saw a European Sleep Works truck on San Pablo Avenue in Albany or El Cerrito and that's what prompted me to write this belated but no less appreciative review. read more

I bought a mattress and bedframe from these folks fifteen years ago. When you get something high quality, it really lasts! The bedframe was disassembled during a recent move. Since I never had that happen before, I didn't know how the adjustable slats were supposed to be set. They had a simple diagram explaining it, and it turns out it's easy. She found us in the computer, We purchased our Mattress 5 years ago. Life expectancy 10 years. Yes rotating is good annually, but not now since we been in the same setup for years and we have very different body types. She asked if we had concerns, she advised me how to examine the bed internally and welcomed calls and pictures for further consultation. Michelle is great! I went in to buy my third European Sleep Works mattress. Our first mattress lasted eighteen years!! Guest room mattress is fine. But now it was time to replace our bedroom mattress. I am the aging Princess and the Pea--otherwise known as picky. My husband, in contrast, could sleep soundly on the dining room table. With so many choices I went back to the store three times. Finally I narrowed it down to two; but it is hard to be sure what a mattress will feel like without sleeping on it all night. (Unfortunately, the store refused my request to be locked in until the next morning.) Anyway, Michelle was patient, super-engaged and fun. I went back and forth between my two favorites. Eighteen years is a long time, so I wanted to get it right. Back and forth. One bed had sleek cotton sheets, the other a rougher cotton. Not a fair comparison; I asked if we could switch the sheets. Michelle cheerfully stripped the bed and together we swapped out the sheets. It really did make a difference. (And no, no one has ever requested this before.) My wife and I got one there a decade ago and like it, but our next purchase will be online-delivery as we found a quality twin size one online for about 50% of European Sleepworks. One day, I woke up and I was middle aged! Sleeping on a huge stack of pillows wasn't cutting it anymore. My GIRD acted up. My neck got stiff. It was the end of youth. (sobs in queer Filipinx) Enter European Sleep Works, where I ended up purchasing an Oxygen pillow and a sleep wedge. I'll always remember European Sleep Works as the store where I got real and got grown about my sleep needs. I especially want to thank Patricia for being super, super duper patient with all of my questions! I only asked so many questions because I wanted to get the most out of my money, but not only that -- I also wanted to make sure that my investment would be used properly. I am a single grad student living on the budget of a single grad student. Sleep health is one of the few investments I can afford to make. An actual grown-up mattress is out of my reach right now, but I figured that I could at least start with a good pillow. I'm writing this review while lying on my brand new Oxygen pillow and wedge. The comfort is amazing. My neck and shoulders feel super relaxed. Patricia's customization skills were solid. I got a chance to try out a couple of different pillows in the store and she was super observant about my positioning and a bunch of other details that made her bring out one pillow after another until we finally got the right one. Patricia has this pillow thing down to a science. The entire customer experience was awesome. I don't own a vehicle, and Patricia was happy to hang out with me for a short while as I waited for my Uber. Then she let me hang out in the showroom while I tried out each mattress and daydreamed about someday coming back to buy one. When my Uber finally arrived, Patricia was still there for me right until I loaded my pillow and wedge into the trunk. Great products and great customer service! Now I'm dozing. It's almost five months since I ordered a mattress from European Sleep Works, and I think it's a good amount of time rolling around and sleeping on the mattress to leave a review. We were looking for a mattress for some time, and looked at different areas. This store caught our attention, when we were heading to the cake store down the block, and we decided to give it a try. The interior is very peaceful and welcoming. The staff allowed visitors to look around the different mattresses freely and without the awkward follow and ask approach (we had that in one of our mattress hunting in a department store). Once we asked one of the staff about mattress options, she quickly gave us a list of things we want a mattress to have. I was pleased to hear that they offered the mattress that feels cool to the touch. I have trouble sleeping when a mattress warms up too quickly, so I liked the offer. Then she picked between four and five different types of mattresses that matched with our firmness preferences. Yes, we have found the one, I thought, when I laid on the mattress that is now in the bedroom. There is something very different about it. Cool when lying down, the blankets are always dry when you slide into them, never moist. The firmness is comfortable yet it tucks you in softly. After ordering, it took about a month of waiting. The delivery service was amazing, a nice shoutout to them too. They arrived ten minutes early, and they were extremely speedy in assembling the bed and mattress. It took roughly twenty minutes, and they were out of the door, and our mattress has arrived safe and sound. Since sleeping on it, no more lower back pain. It's like magic, how I sleep on it, and I am physically refreshed the next day. On warmer nights, the mattress stays cool and comfortable for me to sleep through the night. I am very glad to have found the European Sleep Works store to help me find this wonderful mattress and a great sleep. read more

My husband and I purchased our mattress a little less than a year ago and have had nothing but positive experiences with both the mattress itself as well as the company. We were moving and in need of new bedroom furniture as well as well as a mattress. We took the opportunity to finally upgrade from a queen sized bed to a California King (my husband is 6'6", so it was long overdue!) We were hesitant to try European Sleep Works at first, mainly just because we're semi-lazy millennials and didn't love the idea of having to schedule an appointment to see the mattresses, but my parents and grandparents both spoke so highly of their mattresses that we decided to give it a shot and made an appointment. The appointment went well, and we actually liked that there were just a few other people in the store as we went around testing and learning about the different mattresses. The staff was very friendly and helped answer all of our questions. They helped guide us towards the best fit for our sleeping styles and did not put any pressure on us at all to purchase anything. My husband prefers a softer bed than I do, so we were thrilled to learn we could customize each side to our liking. We are quite conscious of our environmental impact and wanted something that was not only sustainably produced but also would last us a long time. We loved the idea of buying from a local Bay Area business rather than a big box store or online, but had accepted that might not be a realistic option for us if we wanted to stick to our budget. We took our time and did a lot of research to compare different options before we finally made our decision. We were expecting to have some sticker shock upon seeing the prices, but they were actually very reasonable! The cost was pretty comparable to a Leesa mattress, which we were also considering, but had so many more advantages over Leesa. We ultimately decided to order a mattress, and set off to start shopping for a new bed frame. Because of the way the mattresses are built, they do have some requirements for bed frames to ensure the slats will be supportive enough. We spent a few weeks shopping and eventually found a bed frame we liked that met the requirements, but discovered that the mattress would be quite low to the ground in the frame we chose. We loved the frame anyway, so we started looking into bases/platforms that would fit and work to help elevate the bed a bit higher in the frame. Ultimately, we decided to just go ahead and order the slat system from European sleep works as well. Our bedroom furniture (ordered from another company) took several months to be delivered with all of the post-pandemic supply chain issues, but both the mattress and then later the slat system were delivered very quickly and European Sleep Works communicated with us throughout the whole process. All in all, the mattress was such a great purchase for us! We have been so comfortable and have had zero regrets. We are so happy we were able to buy local and maintain a focus on sustainability without having to sacrifice any of our other priorities or comfort! read more

My second time buying a bed here was even better than the first! Patricia B. was amazing. She handpicked a selection of mattresses for me to try and really took into account my body and weight and stated preferences. She seemed very knowledgeable and honest. I am a muscian and my partner and I have a rather eccentric appearance and yet I didn't get any feeling that I was being judged on the basis of my looks. While I may not look like I can afford such a mattress it was actually my second time buying. After 12 years enjoying my first Sleepworks bed I had a life transition that put me into an Ikea latex mattress for 4 years. My body was crushing itself and causing all kinds of body pain and waking in the night. I had a very positive experience with European Sleep Works. The sales people are warm, friendly, patient, and helpful. The products are excellent. I bought the Malouf adjustable frame and a mattress. I spent a few hours in the store, trying out the various mattresses. I never felt rushed. The selection is not huge, which I found to be a good thing. Less confusing to make a decision. After some time using the mattress at home, I found that my shoulder was hurting a bit. I am an older gentleman and realized that a softer mattress might be better for my body. I spoke with Steven, the manager. I found him to be extremely kind, empathic, knowledgable and patient. I felt he was with me. He was genuinely wanting me to be satisfied and happy. I was within the generous 100 day return policy. I decided to swap out the under part of the mattress (I forget the name, perhaps the coils?). I only had to pay for the delivery charge (I live in Sonoma County). I was very happy with the softer feel of the mattress. My body loves this softer mattress. Everyone is different, so I suggest you take your time choosing one, and know that you can make an adjustment if necessary if you are within 100 days of your purchase. In short, I am delighted with the amazing frame and the mattress. The frame contours to my body in a very relaxing and supportive way. There are many positions to choose from and I found the Malouf frame to be superior to a frame I tried in another bedding store. The prices are not cheap, but I believe they are reasonable given the high quality. You are in good hands with European Sleepworks. I never felt any pressure to make a decision and I had a clear sense that Steven and his staff wanted me to be happy with my purchase. I am! I visited ESW because of a neighbor and also to see their store after all those years of radio ads. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly my wife and I were able to zero in on the correct mattress - with the help of Steven whose years in the business enables him to look at your body features to determine the best mattress for you. We had a split King (Double XL Twin) as my wife and I determined our comfort levels were not the same. The sale promises and delivery was perfectly executed to our home in Fairfield. My wife got a "topper" right off while I felt I was good without one. After her talking about how good the topper was, I tried it a couple of nights - and she was right. I have owned my European Sleep Works king size adjustable latex bed since 201l - after discovering: a) New memory foam is a huge trigger for me, but latex is wonderful! My bed is both soft AND supportive thanks to how I customized it. b) It is much better to buy a foundation plus topper - I can replace a worn out topper and not have to replace the whole bed. c) I learned this when I had to replace my former bed with a 1.5" dip! One-piece mattress/topper beds with memory foam wear out fast - it's by design. Sooo... a few things. 1) I go to 'heaven' every night in my amazing European Sleep Works bed. 2) I have replaced my divine latex/wool/cotton topper once and that was so much easier than replacing an entire bed. 3) The people who work for and own this company are the best - genuinely helpful and friendly - consistently. 4) Without reservations, I recommend this company and its products. I bought my queen latex bed (with slat frame) from European Sleepworks about 6 and half years ago. At the time, the top 2" layer was in two pieces and it kept shifting over the years so I had to unzip the cover periodically and push the pieces together, only to find they shifted again within a few weeks. I called ESW about this during Covid but was reluctant to have them come early in the pandemic. I called them recently and spoke with Joanne, and a couple of other folks there who arranged to have the two-piece 2" layer replaced with one piece! ESW's customer service is A+ and I appreciate their effort to satisfy this customer! When I need a new bed, ESW will be my go to place. read more
