I've had my hair done by some of the best, from Fekkai to Michel, and I know quality. I heartily recommend David. His blowouts are hands-down the finest I've ever had. In the six months I have been seeing him, he has only given me one cut, because I'm growing out--and that cut was utterly expert, requiring zero touching up as my tresses have lengthened. Color-wise, he IS wise--he doesn't overuse gloss on my naturally gray, single-processed brown hair--which I find very interesting. As a result, my hair has not grown overly dark, but instead, has acquired a burnished, almost highlighted look. It is exceptional. As a person, he is easy to talk to, but not NECESSARY to talk to--so if you're the type who is chatty, you're good, but if you cringe at the thought of keeping up a cut-long convo, you're fine, too. What started off as one-off hair appointment became something I eagerly looked forward to six weeks for the next several years. Her skill at hair painting and creating gorgeous color is second-to-none, and her bedside manner is something all people, not just stylists, should aspire to have. I was so pleased with her services, I referred Carissa to my out of town mother who for years now has made special trips to the city monthly to see her. These people are "Blonde Specialists" the same way your corner Nail Salon offers Botox... SCAM CITY!!!! I had scheduled a Consultation at Eva Scrivo Salon on 7/22/20 so they could see my hair and tell me if what I wanted could be attained. I was told if I decided to have them do my hair, the consultation would be taken off my total bill- otherwise it would be a $100 fee. Since my hair was virgin (See PIC: My Virgin Hair) and had taken me 2+ years to grow out, I was willing to pay for this discussion time. In speaking with Eva, I showed her multiple pictures as examples of the color I was looking for. I stated multiple times that I wanted ULTRA ICY blonde sliced highlights with dimension- ie sharpness and separation (See PICS: Inspo #1 & Inspo #2). I expressed my concern that maybe my hair had too much red in it or that possibly my roots were not dark enough to be a good base. Instead of giving me an honest answer, she reassured me that they could absolutely give me the look in the pictures I had brought in- and added it would be even easier since my hair was virgin. As the salon prides itself on specializing in blonde color I said okay and made an appointment for 7/24/20. *NOTE: Photos did not upload in order, please go to See All to get a better feel of the "progression" from start to finish- or more correctly the LACK THEREOF. On 7/24/20 Carissa, a senior colorist showed me to her chair for a full head of highlights. I was told Eva had briefed her, but I continued to show her all of my inspiration pictures and describe the dimensional stand-out look I was seeking, including icy white pops while keeping my natural hair as the base color that made the dimension. While she was working I happened to ask her what her clients usually request and she responded that 99% want highlights all over and do not want to see even one strand of their natural color. Now this, added to the fact that the bleach was only left on for about 20 minutes tops- made me EXTREMELY NERVOUS!! I've been getting my hair done for 20 years and I knew that was not long enough to achieve the icy white I wanted. After paying for a FULL HEAD of highlights not to mention taking the time to have a CONSULTATION where I was assured they could give me what I wanted, I arrived home with the below results (See PICS: $500 Later & Also $500 Later). My hair was HARDLY lightened at all, basically NO COLOR below the crown, and $500 less in my wallet (including tip). Completely dissatisfied I went back the very next week on 7/31/2020 and complained it was nowhere near icy platinum, that there weren't nearly enough highlights, and that everything below the crown was COMPLETELY UNTOUCHED- even though I had PAID FOR A FULL HEAD!!! I brought out my inspiration pictures to prove my hair looked NOTHING LIKE what I asked for. Remember, I went in for a consultation as well- they could've and should've told me honestly they couldn't do it at that point and taken the $100. After all, WHAT ELSE would be the POINT of a consultation?? After round 2 my hair was still NOWHERE NEAR my inspiration pictures. In fact, although they added more color- they did it astoundingly incorrectly and gave me a Full-On FROSTED effect which is the EXACT OPPOSITE of the sliced dimension I REPEATEDLY described!! (See PICS: $850 Later & Also $850 Later) Bye bye 2+ years of growing my hair out. Carissa literally did not listen to a single word I said!! ALL of the strands were colored- just like she admitted she did for 99% of her clients!!! Including tip I was now out another $350 and disgusted with the scam these "socialites" were running. In the effort of being completely transparent, I actually did return back to Eva Scrivo Salon on 8/8/20 for a THIRD TIME as I was still completely dissatisfied with the work they did, and I am the type of person who thinks the person who did it is the best to fix it. I also paid yet another fee. By this time Eva had REVERSED her tune and actually said "sometimes virgin hair is a lot harder." If you remember at my consultation I was assured virgin hair is easier- So which is it?? Certainly one of them HAD to be a FLAT OUT LIE!! And now after spending over $1,000 you can clearly see that EVEN AFTER THE THIRD VISIT, they did not produce anything near what they had promised (See PICS: After $1,000+). The last 2 pics are from about 3 years ago, proving that my hair is ENTIRELY CAPABLE of being Platinum Blonde!!! Not only that- it only took ONE VISIT and $300. Eva Scrivo Salon is out to scam you HARD for the sole reason of making you come back again and again and again. They ARE NOT Specialists! They technically refunded my money, except 2 visits I had paid and tipped in cash so I never got that back. She's incredibly arrogant and doesn't take the time to really listen to what you want. I've been to way too many salons in NYC -- of all different sorts and in different neighborhoods -- and none compare to Eva Scrivo, in any way. It's luxurious without being fussy, formal, or intimidating. Everyone that works there, from the people at the front desk, to the assistants, to Eva herself, is lovely, warm, kind, honest, helpful, and genuine. The space is beautiful and relaxing and, from the moment you arrive, you're treated like a great friend. Most importantly, though, the services--all of them--are amazing. I first went to Eva Scrivo for corrective color. A colorist at a super-trendy salon had turned my hair a scary shade of black and a friend recommended someone at ES to fix it. That colorist had left, and the receptionist suggested Alyson, as she's very good with dark hair. Alyson had me come in for a long, detailed consultation, where she tried out different things on my hair (e.g., she did a test to see how highlights would come out, how damaged my hair was), and the next day I came back, and she gave me the best color I've ever had: glossy, rich, beautiful. *And* blew my curls into soft, bouncy waves that literally turned heads on the street. Every friend I saw--and my son's teacher--said, "you look like a movie star." I saw Alyson for years, until she moved to another salon, too far from my home and office, when I switched to Mira, who is equally great. I still, when I leave the salon, get movie star comments. Over the three years I've been going to ES, I've had my hair cut by Scott (also departed, sadly), who was amazing, had facials with Irina (amazing), manicures (the best ever; I don't even know why), and--best of all--my make up done by Gwynne, who is beyond amazing (she also does cuts and color, and everyone leaves her chair looking gorgeous). As others have mentioned, it's expensive, but it's that rare place that feels fully worth it (and I've spent as much or more at other salons that absolutely do not). One thing I really appreciate is the incredible warmth of Eva herself. She's always there, always greets me by name, and always goes out of her way to be lovely. Over the years, she's given me two gift certificates for facials, a free manicure, and other such things. Twice, I went to ES before photo shoots, to have my hair and make up done, and was carrying clothing with me for the shoots. Both times, she took the clothing--without asking!--and steamed it out for me. So lovely. Once, as I was heading out, after having my hair colored, she said, "wait!" and brought me to her chair, where she redid my bangs -- I'd messed them up getting dressed. ("They're going to frizz," she said. "I have to fix them.") She just is a complete perfectionist and you can see it in the salon, which is so thoughtfully designed. Great service in a beautiful location. I wish I could afford to come here all the time. Fortunately, if you are willing to take a risk, you can get in with a salon apprentice for a very reasonable cost. I had my hair cut, blow dried and styled today and am so happy with the results. The student really took her time and was very diligent and thoughtful about what she was doing. There was also an instructor who came around for necessary guidance and any touchups. It took a little longer than it might otherwise, but I walked out with a great haircut! I will definitely be coming back for their regular salon services...as soon as I get a raise. read more

I went in for another cut with Ena and I love my hair! I had several inches cut off and my hair looks modern and not as matronly as I would've thought at this shorter length. Also, I'm really happy with the highlights from Meghan. I've received a lot of compliments and I think that my hair looks better than ever! The highlights were way out of my usual budget ($300!!!!!!!), so this might be my one and only professional highlight, but it was worth it as a special gift for myself. I used to come here when my wonderful and talented stylist, Bailey worked here but now that he's moved back to Damian West, I no longer go to Eva to have my brows plucked. The staff are nice and the salon is a nice and large space that is tastefully decorated. I actually used to go here when it was run & owned by another talented stylist, Jason Croy. I was there getting my hair done for an extended amount of time and they were very generous and treated me to breakfast. My hair came out great. I am the type of client that likes to talk out new styles, cuts, and colors and my stylist was able to take my ideas and transform them so they worked perfectly for me. Meghan was amazing at color and super professional. After 10 year's of foils I needed something different. My last few highlights were awful, the color was way too cool, almost looking grey and I love baby blond natural highlights! I take my hair color very serious, too serious... but that is why I have been on the search for a great new place. I have tried so many "high end", way over priced salons and nothing compared to Meghan. She was professional, listened to me and is very talented. Let me be clear. I give out 5-star or 1-star reviews very few and far between. I take "Yelping" very seriously, and I feel that in the spirit of knowledge sharing, that it is important to be true, fair and balanced in reviewing these businesses. So I am very careful to choose my stars wisely, and penalize those who have truly earned it; while giving accolades to those who have truly earned it, as well. Eva and her salon deserve this 5-star rating. Here's the dish: I moved to NYC years ago, right after a hair nightmare experience with a stylist who colored my hair waaaaaay too blond. My hair that was so damaged from over-processing. It resembled something out of a BAD 80's punk rock band. A friend with oh-my-gosh-can-I-touch-your-hair locks recommended Eva, so I threw a bunch of leave-in conditioner in my hair (hoping to hide the damage, but who was I fooling, really) and headed to NoHo. To be honest, I was a little intimidated, because many of the NYC top-tier salons have so much attitude, I didn't know what to expect. No attitude here. The front desk staff and stylists were welcoming and kind. In addition to giving me a smock that actually fits right, they offered cold, citrus-infused water with a tea biscuit...it's all about the details, folks. Because I expect this SAME level of detail when someone taking care of my hair. Eva brought me to her station, and she spent a great deal of time consulting about my hair; but more importantly, she was getting to know ME. I recall her being just cool-as-a-cucumber, highly knowledgeable and very professional. I am very type "A" about my hair and her demeanor just calmed me down and assured me that we could get it back on track. It's important for a stylist to understand if I am a "wash and go gal" or someone who will spend more time on her hair (or both). This all plays into cut, color, styling, etc. and giving me the right look that fits my personality and lifestyle is key. Eva and her team go deeper than your typical stylists, and it is evident that they care most about developing relationships (and truly understanding the client's needs) rather than transactional business. I feel it is a more holistic approach to beauty - hair being part of it. They all seem to "get it." In a nutshell, my hair has never looked better. I went back to medium brown with highlights (oh and the balayage is amazing, Google it!), and I look about 10 years younger - or so my friends say, but I know it, ha. The highlights are perfectly placed around my face to do what they are supposed to do... "highlight!" And I can't say enough about the cut, wow. It's absolutely best cut I have ever had (that goes for color too, actually). It is so easy to style and it lies just too-good-too-be-true perfectly. I am lazy, and I have long hair, but whatever magic mojo Eva has, it FINALLY does what it is supposed to, ever. They instructed me how to dry my hair and what products to use, and that makes a big difference, as well. Don't underestimate a good blow dry with the right product. I get blow-outs a few times a month, and they last, even with the hot and humid weather. So, why the long, robust review? For the first time since a teenager, I am happy with my hair. That is a feat. Honestly, I feel like I have been walking around way too long with a look that was dated and that just didn't work for me. Now, I see what it can be and should be, and I feel freakin' fantastic. And yes, my head gets bigger with the compliments about my hair, and I am a-OK with that. Yes It's cool to go to a salon that is considered one of NYC's most prestigious and I love seeing Eva on the Martha Stewart show. JD did a fantastic hair cut and Alyson knows color like nobody's business. However, they are not getting 5 stars because it is just too damn expensive!! I am all about pampering myself but I guess I just don't make enough money to afford this kind of pampering. read more

My hair could not look better right now! I saw Aviva at Eva Scrivo, and she fixed my hair in an hour. I had around 7 different shades of color in my hair, and the worst split ends. I left looking like a hair commercial. Everyone is very friendly, and I got to sip on a french press coffee. Aviva is a master at color, and I'm officially hooked on her talent. I have been coming to this salon for close to 2 years now and they never fail to give me a great haircut! A friend recommended that I try them out and I have not looked back, these stylists are artists. I have been to a bunch of places in the city over the years but Eva Scrivo is by far the classiest and the most high end, yet down to earth enough that I am not afraid to tell them what I want - or more importantly what I DON'T want!They know what they are doing and the entire staff is extremely personable. read more

I go to Eva Scrivo Salon regularly and so I knew I wanted Amanda Gabbard to do my bridal makeup. I actually had two weddings-- Western and Eastern--and Amanda nailed two very different looks without too much direction from me. I felt amazing at both events and she also made my mother, mother-in-law, and best girls shine! Beyond the results, the experience was lovely-- she is always friendly and cheerful and puts me at ease. I certainly felt pampered and cared for on my most special weekend. read more
