So in true transparency, my eyebrow technician moved to this salon 6 months ago. She used to be at Lilibeth Eyebrows. So needless to say, pleased is an understatement. My almost 16yr old goddaughter wanted to get her eyebrows done for the first time. And naturally, I had to have Saida do them. The new place is very nice. The receptionist was so nice and inviting. I'm glad Saida found this place. Saida only tweezes and used a brow shaper; no wax, no thread. Her eye for accuracy is unmatched and needless to say my goddaughter was very happy. I brought pictures and VIDEOS of what I wanted (face framing highlights in the front and add a few lowlights) and Madison did my hair probably 3 shades DARKER and covered any existing highlights I had. Also the advice they gave was to wash it a bunch.. I feel like you should leave the salon with good hair not have to use dish soap 50 times to get it to an "okay" looking color. I don't want to leave a bad review but also it cost $500 to have my hair f-ed up and not be listened to at all. I now have to go pay a different salon to undo it and damage my hair to lighten back to original color. Overall: its overpriced, they don't offer refunds if they mess up and I didn't want to see her to redo it, you won't be listened to. If you're in NYC I recommend Cutler salon or Fox and Jane as an alternative if you're looking for color. read more

MIA BABES IS A RIP OFF AND TREATS THEIR CUSTOMERS UNFAIRLY!!! MY HAIR HAS BEEN DONE BEAUTIFULLY FOR A QUARTER OF WHAT THEY CHARED IN MANY OTHER NYC SALONS! This salon is overpriced and does not give quality results. I came in to lift my highlights closer to my roots just a bit. A very simple job. First, my hair was platinum blonde all over. Then, they had to put toner it and it ended up being way too dark. Then, more highlights. I lost my base, and the shades of blonde and brown in my hair now look unnatural. I was there for SIX HOURS!!! They wanted to charge me $580.00. I told them the service was not worth that amount. They took off ONLY $70.00. A waste of my time, a waste of my money, and a waste of a salon!!! read more

I tried this salon for the first time based on other reviews--it was an emergency and I booked same day service for cut and color. It was a real leap of faith because I am REALLY picky about my hair (both cut and color) and have used a variety of higher end salons in Los Angeles and NYC for almost 35 years. I have gone from edgy "punk" hairstyles to more traditional cuts, mostly short hair since 2000. I have been coloring my hair (again edgy to conservative) since the mid-80s. My first experience at Mia Wagner Salon was one of THE BEST salon experiences I've had in my life, anywhere on either coast. This includes my having patronized over the years well known name salons and other boutique "celebrity salons" in Beverly Hills. I have sometimes spent upwards of $500 for cut and color by these salons. For half the price, I left the salon with perfect base color and a great haircut. Ali is an amazing colorist with many years of experience. I could tell less than 5 minutes into the service that he was going to do a great job not just because of the detailed conversation we had before he started on my hair but also the technique he used to apply color and to process the color (I have about the most color resistant gray hair any colorist will encounter, and many colorists over the years have told me its a real challenge). The cut Susie provided also was great and she understood the challenges of my thick hair and head covered with challenging cowlicks. Even shampoo staff were beyond the norm in terms of care and quality of service. What a concept: actually getting beautiful full base color coverage, preserving my pre-existing highlights, and getting my hairline perfectly cleaned, with a great short haircut that left me ready for a night out! read more

I had a positive experience with all the staff but... ... my haircut was not symmetrical nor adequate for my hair type. Mia was very polite and friendly, and I really wish I had a positive experience, but my bangs were uneven, and the sides had different lengths and thickness. I also hope that a professional will pay attention to the client's hair routine in order to give a cut that matches that. It was not my experience. read more

I visited Mia babes last week and met with Gary, who is a fantastic colorist!! I tried Mia Babes, sort of on a whim at the recommendation of a coworker. I have to say that I'm a rather low maintenance woman when it comes to my hair and because of this sometimes it's difficult to relay to a stylist exactly what it is that I'am coming in for in he first place, seriously..anything at all that I would have done to my hair would have to have a very easy upkeep as is..honestly, I can not have it any other way at all. Taking in to consideration my desire to have Something done to my hair that would look beautiful and chic but also very practical just as I would like it to be, Gary suggested that I have my hair cut in long but angled layers to complement my cheek bones and helped me select a warm honey wheat color to add a slight accent to my natural highlights which are Auburn. Just going based on all of Gary's recommendations, massive Hair success!! I look like a completely new person :) My Hair hasn't looked this beautiful since honestly, I do not remember! Healthy, bouncy, silky.. Lovely! Here are my two cents. The salon is located in a very posh area off 5th Avenue. The salon itself is weird. Downstairs there is a retail area and as you go through a side door, the salon is on the balcony overlooking retail. A club for rich people is around the corner from the salon, same floor. My complaints would be the lack of a decent shampoo area, no real rest rooms to speak of, and cramped quarters. The stylists are are Fekkai trained, so I guess they are good. The prices are VERY HIGH. I think for the price, the atmosphere should be nicer. The owner Gary is very nice, the other owner, meh. I like a more full service salon-oh yeah they have a waxing room, it looks like a storage room or a closet, with mean lighting. I think the staff hangs their coats in there. FOR THE PRICE, A FULL SERVICE SALON IS MANDATORY!!!! read more

The worst salon I've ever been to. Went for highlights -- been getting them elsewhere for years but my hairdresser retired. My hair was beautiful curly golden blond. They basically stripped it, then used a toner to bring the color up (I had specifically said no toner) and then used a "conditioner" which ended up being a keratin straightener and put me under such high heat my scalp turned and hair fried. Now my formerly curly shiny hair is like straw- frizzy, dull and an assortment of blond and brassy colors. People actually ask me what happened but there's nothing I can do bec it's so overprocessed. Oh and the grand total was $550 for the upsell of the keratin I didn't ask for and fixing their mistakes. I was there all day and I usually pay 125 at my old place and it was beautiful.
