What was important for me was a quiet location with easy parking, comfortable surroundings and a kitchen. The beach was a block away and I was close to old historic Lahaina and the resorts at Kaanapali. The staff including Tanna, Christine, Barbara and others were all wonderful, warm personable people. They are what makes this place special and they offer value added services such as car rentals and more. Bedrooms have refrigerators so you can store your leftovers or pies that you purchased down the road at Leoda's Pie and Kitchen or fresh banana bread. If you want to do stargazing, all you need to do is walk up to their upper deck, find something to sit on and look up at the stars.

They describe themselves as an…read moreelegant 5,000 sq. ft. home with five units, each with their own private entrance and bathroom as well as a separate "honeymoon" cottage. You have the option of renting the entire property or an individual unit. For about the price of a nicer hotel, you get the creature comforts of home, privacy and quite as well. My girlfriend (ex) and I went here and Jim and Kim Wicker, who run the place and live downstairs, were perfect hosts and even lent us a tour CD that guided us along the infamous Road To Hana. Sure there are hotels right on the beach, but you wont have to dodge screaming kids running through the halls dripping from the pool or ocean, or worry about noise from shared walls. Instead you get peace and comfort. You may also get surprise fresh made treats now and then, that Kim bakes up and leaves for you on the counter after cleanup. Wai Ola is plenty close to everything. You're about 1/2 mile from the ocean and all the Lahaina hot spots. If you plan on going to Lahaina, Maui Hawaii, Try this place and you'll be very pleased. You definitely need a car if you are going to stay there, it is close to everything but not really within walking distance of anything. The cost was great; it was about the price of a hotel, but you get a pool, use of laundry facilities, you can borrow the coolers and beach stuff they have, and you get fresh baked treats. The only caveat is they have an extensive list of rules, and the owners can come across a little snarky in the enforcement of them. Like the pool can only be used at this time and that time, or you can't put stuff on the chairs by the pool, or the laundry hours are from this time to that time. They do it to create a relaxing and enjoyable environment for all the guests, and it works, but I think if they were just a bit less rigid and militant, people would still mind the rules and they wouldn't seem so aggressive. Overall it's a great alternative to a hotel, and if you like to buy your own food and plan your day according to your needs, not those of a hotel, this is the place for you. Star Market supplied the lau lau and poke, we borrowed some movies from Kim and Jim, and stayed in one afternoon, a welcome break from the activity on our 10 day Hawaii honeymoon. I can't believe I get to be the first to review the Hamoa Bay Bungalow. In a way I don't want to…read morereveal this secret hidden heaven in Hana, Maui. At the same time I want to rave about how wonderful this stay was. A beautiful hidden gem located in Hana. There is an option of staying at the bungalow or at the guest house. We stayed at the bungalow in June for our upcoming 1 year wedding anniversary, the surroundings were breath taking. A time warp into the jungles of Maui. The bunglow is better suited for couples, it has one bed, a jetted tub, and the tub is located on the patio. Although there are no privacy windows surrounding the patio, you will feel very comfortable because of how high up you are in the bungalow and the number of tropical foliage surrounding the bungalow. Picture a 600 sq ft tree house for grown ups. As ironic as this may sound, a five star hotel normally would not have any critters running around, but I give this place a 5 star rating for the taste of serenity that I have not experienced at any other hotel before. Here in beautiful Hana, you get the true experience of sharing with nature. At night the geckos come out from the rafters of the bungalow and you share the home with the geckos. At night you hear them running across the glass. You also learn survival skills of turning off all lights in the bungalow and leaving on the magic moonlight switch on the patio to lure the bugs and geckos to one side of the home to feed the geckos. If you can live with the geckos and bugs, this is as close to heaven you can get. Without glass windows on the patio, it is instead covered by netting that allows the sounds of nature to come through, you can hear the ocean waves from coast of Hana Beach at night. In the morning you can hear the birds chirping. The short bursts of pouring Maui rain can also be heard and is a calming sound. The laundry machine is outdoors. You share with the guest house. The guest house is quite a distance from the bungalow and you do feel like you're alone even if you are on the same lot. The kitchen is stocked with all the cookingware you may need if you want to cook, dishes, utensils, and dining ware. The bungalow even has a coffee maker, toaster, and stove. In the garden patio, there is a barbecue that you can use. You will have to bring a bag of bbq coals with you unless the previous guest left some behind. The room also comes with a small radio with cd player and some Hawaiian CD's. This might sound cheesy now listening to Hawaiian music in Hawaii, but while you are staying there experiencing the rain, nature, and that feeling of bliss inside you, the Hawaiian music you listen to at the bungalow will be the sounds of serenity you will remember when you're back at your cubicle working the following week. There are a few cats that roam around the home, they live there, and if you're lucky enough, you'll get a happy greeting from them. You have to make a private reservation with the owner of this home to stay here. $225 per night plus 11.42% tax, 3 nights minimum reservation. We booked the minimum of 3 nights here to stay in Hana for the beginning of our trip in Maui and the rest of the trip in hotels in Kaanapali resort area, the first 3 nights was the highlight of our Maui trip. The reservation was a very simple process: 1) Email hamoabay@maui.net or call the owner at (808) 248-7884 asking if the dates you want to visit is available. We booked the trip around being able to stay at the bungalow, we were open to June or September. 2) After setting the available date and reserving, you provide a 50% deposit with the balance due 30 days in advance of the arrival date. You can book with your credit card over the phone. 3) You receive a confirmation receipt by email. 4) After final payment you get your secret directions to finding the hidden gem. 5) Upon arrival you call to tell the owner that you've arrived. 6) You try to cope with your much removed state from the busy life you've escaped from. 7) Day 2, you've succeeded in step 6. Now you explore Hana. 8) Day 3 (if you book only 3 days), you're now sad that you know that this is the last night at the bungalow. 9) Day 4, checking out. You're now sad you have to go and you actually say goodbye to the geckos. 10) Day 5, back at work. You think about booking a trip to Maui again to stay at the bungalow, Go for it! Since our bungalow was up in the trees and our view was of the treetops, we really felt like Tarzan and Jane. There is an Indonesian feel to the place. The shower seemed outdoors since on the lanai and surrounded by floor to ceiling screening. I loved the batik material panels surrounding the shower/tub. The breeze running through the bungalow kept them flowing. Lots of bamboo in the decor, the bed base etc. The soft lighting was accomplished by the large white paper lanterns that we've all seen before -- so charming in this setting. The owner has Kona coffee for your breakfast in the little kitchen with beautiful jungle view and brings homemade banana bread every morning. She also had a sound system on the lanai with a choice of great music. - We loved the Hawaiian sounds. We made it to Makawao and took shelter on a shop porch. After a few hours of waiting for the storm to pass, we realized that it wasn't going to happen and started trying to find nearby lodging for the night. After calling several places that were either too far away or closed due to covid, we tried The Banyan Tree and the owner Helaina took pity on us and gave us the last room, even though it was extremely short notice and she was really busy dealing with the deluge of water on the property. She was so nice--met us in the downpour with fluffy dry towels and later offered to make us a pizza because she knew we didn't have a car to go get food. We stayed in one of the cottages with two beds and it was great. The beds were comfortable, there's a full, well-equipped kitchen, and it was just nice and clean and quiet. There's also a beautiful view of the valley from the garden and a huge, awesome-looking pool/cabana/hot tub area (although we obviously didn't get to use it). So highly recommend staying at the Banyan Tree, especially in the event of a severe multi-day rainstorm!

The best part is that it's all interactive-- you won't be able to taste fresh passion or star fruit off the vines, put on natural lipstick from the fruit of the lipstick tree, or have a pair of animal co-tour guides (dog Star and cat Trudy) walk along with you at another other garden. Terry answered all my questions and more. We left with cuttings, fruits, and a sense of fulfillment. As a lover of many tropical plants with the same small specimens at home, it's inspiring to see how big and beautiful they can get.

It's not now, and I hate to post this great review, cuz then it will be HARDER! I've been thru a lot of managers over the years here. Mostly good, some just shitty and annoying. The CURRENT managers here are HANDS DOWN, the BEST. RYAN AND MALEA. Since they took over, everything has been excellent. The condos have ALWAYS been spectacular. All ocean facing, beautiful grounds, so SERENE and very well kept. Before Malea and Ryan there were issues with accountability when something went wrong in a unit. My last 5 visits, they took care of ANY issue, often when it wasn't their jobs. So- management is STELLAR These condos are ON MAALEAA BAY. The whales BREACH right there. The outrigger club paddles by every morning. Egrets chase the gardeners around. It's seriously paradise. If you like water slides, lots of people- this is not your place. The most people you will see is at sunset when the condo owners all bring there conch shells down to blow for the sunset. It IS a killer location tho. Close to all the Kihei stuff, not far from Lahaina or Paia. 2 pools, 2 groups of condos surrounding each pool. Beach is public but the only people you see are people walking by- otherwise it's quiet. Don't be an idiot, this place is AMAZING. JUST GO. Just not when I want to, DAMMIT!!
