Grand Wailea is a luxury oceanfront property in the Wailea area of Maui. It's located directly next to Wailea Beach and spans 40 acres. It's also located next to The Shops at Wailea, a luxury shopping mall. We were told that the resort was in the shape of a turtle, and once that was mentioned the resort map made it obvious. The resort is along a string of luxury hotels right by the water connected by a walking/running path. In the morning you'll see tons of people along that path. We got a double queen bed with ocean views, and the bathroom contained both a tub and a shower. The resort amenities include but are not limited to a gym, multiple pools (including an adult-only one), lounge chairs, cabanas, water slides, and a spa. The spa had complimentary fitness classes which we took advantage of. Some of them were on the beach and in the fitness room, but some are paid. There are activities like massages, sound baths, and other types of wellness activities. To use the pool amenities you need a wristband which you get by one of the covered areas. Only valet parking is available for $80/night. They also have a on-site luau which I went to although I've been to better ones. There's a chapel and we even witnessed a wedding during our time there. We also went to Nobu at the resort which I enjoyed. Although it's a luxury resort, some parts of the resort were outdated and broken such as the room signs. The room interior was modern but some exterior parts of the building were on the older side. The location and the views are definitely the selling point of the resort, and it's a place you want to stay at to take advantage of the views and amenities. read more

After a 7 night stay last week this will be the last time we go to the Grand Wailea. This was my second stay at the hotel. It started from the entry to the resort. What I thought were rocks were actually plastic looking boulders. This would have been fine but on the walkway to the Wailea shops there were broken boulders so you see that they are fake and the pond empty. An eyesore. The room service staff were great and took good care of keeping the room clean. However the refrigerator in the room had been turned off and had a stale smell. Having 4 TV's at home and actually had a Samsung I think I know how to troubleshoot problems. As we were getting ready to retire we turned the TV on and were directed to the promotional hotel page. We had no access to regular TV. Called the front desk for help and they asked me "do you know what is wrong?" No that is why I am calling you. Instead of going to bed I had to wait 30 minutes for help to arrive. The problem ended up being on the hotel end and the problem was fixed. The repairman dropped his toolset in my clothing drawer below the TV and left. Which I had to make a trip down to the front desk to drop off. In addition to dropping off the tools I had received a letter in the room telling me of upcoming service and they needed 45 minutes in the room. Not sure why this maintenance was not done on the front end or back end when I left? Now I am getting annoyed and the woman at the front desk said they are SEVERELY understaffed. The manager did give me a $300 credit but the damage was already done. Our room was $815 a night. The pool area was a circus, which I understand because families want that last summer trip. A great portion of the pool was closed for maintenance, including the lazy river. If you want a nice chaise lounge with an umbrella you need to get to the pool very early and stake your claim. So you are competing for your space. One of the days the towel station was out of towels. If you want a preferred area or cabana you are going to pay. There were some positives on the property but the negatives prevailed. The hotel is tired and needs to be upgraded. Especially for a Waldorf Astoria. In retrospect I should have gone down the street to the Four Seasons or the Fairmont. Even though I am a Hilton Honors member. read more

Honestly, we had a great trip up until the very last morning. The resort is beautiful and the staff was friendly. Then we picked up our car. Valet had put deep, thick scratches all the way down the passenger front fender and said absolutely nothing. We found out at the rental return counter. Last day of our trip. Just completely speechless. For this trip, as well, there were long valet waits, crowded pools, and kids running everywhere. But you can't damage someone's car and just stay quiet about it. A Beautiful Property Marred by Frustrating Service and Absurd Policies My wife and I recently stayed at the Grand Wailea to celebrate her birthday. While the property itself is stunning and boasts some genuinely great amenities, the experience was a confusing mix of highs and deeply frustrating lows. The frustration started immediately. The valet was in a massive rush to get me out of the car without listening to my questions about early check-in. I was told temporary parking wasn't allowed without someone staying in the car - an odd policy for guests who might just need a restroom break after a long drive. Prior to arrival, I received an email stating that if my room wasn't ready, the bellman would store our luggage on the 4th floor and we could enjoy an "exclusive private check-in" at the 8th-floor Napua Lounge. None of this happened. The bell desk informed me the 8th-floor staff went on lunch break at 2 PM and never returned. I was forced into a massive, slow-moving line on the 4th floor with only four staff members helping about eight families. When I finally got to the front, I was handed keys without a room number and told to wait in the lobby for a text. I booked a 1 King Bed with Sofa bed, Ocean View. I was grateful they upgraded us to the Napua Tower for my wife's birthday, but the room lacked an actual ocean view from the inside. I could only see the building across from us unless I went out to the balcony and look at the right corner. Worse, the room wasn't properly prepared. The bed and pillows were messy, and there was a white, crusty spill (coffee or food sauce) over the TV. Despite calling to request a cleaning while we went out, housekeeping remade the bed but completely ignored the dirty TV. This was arguably the most nonsensical part of the stay. The beachside shop closes at 3:30 PM - the prime time guests want to be on the beach for sunset! If you don't return your Tommy Bahama beach chair (which retails for about $100 brand new) by 3:30, they charge a $100 penalty to your room. Furthermore, to get two chairs for my wife and me, the staff demanded we both be physically present to check them out. If a family of 10 wants chairs, all 10 people have to stand in line. On top of this, everyone is forced to wear plastic wristbands. For a luxury resort, this feels incredibly cheap, wasteful, and poorly managed. You are forced into an $80/night valet with no self-parking option - which cost me more than four days of gas driving around the island. Add to that a $55 daily resort fee, and it feels like pure greed when you are already paying upwards of $1,200+ a night. To top it off, my checkout invoice was wrong. My property credits were not applied correctly, resulting in overcharges that staff dismissed by saying it would "calculate automatically" (it didn't). While email communication was okay, the chat feature on the hotel's app and website is completely useless, taking forever to get a response. The pools and jacuzzis are exceptionally clean, well-managed, and expansive. There is more than enough space for everyone, so it never feels uncomfortably crowded. The poolside, lounge, and housekeeping staff were incredibly friendly and always willing to help with directions or questions. The beach right in front of the resort is fantastic. It's a truly wonderful place to relax and watch the sunset. Although email responses were slow in the days leading up to the trip, the concierge staff was very supportive once connected and personally helped me re-coordinate a dinner reservation. The room itself (aside from the view and TV) featured a great sofa, nice decor, and a spotless bathroom. Ultimately, the Grand Wailea is a classic case of "all sizzle and no steak". The natural beauty and physical property are fantastic, but the exorbitant and hidden fees, lack of basic communication between departments, and insulting, restrictive guest policies severely detract from what should be a world-class luxury experience. read more

I had a wonderful stay here during my visit to Maui. I will warn you that the price is very expensive but for me, it was worth it. From the moment I arrived the service was impeccable. From the Valet parking ($75 a night ouch) attendant , to the check in attendant Kela (thank you so much for your hospitality and kindness) to the bell check who was hella cool, everyone was so genuinely kind. The pool is amazing. It was hella crowded though and I took quite some time to find a chair but it was summer at the pool what else would you expect? I hope to be able to visit again. We absolutely loved our stay at Grand Wailea. We were upgraded for free to an oceanfront view, which made the trip feel extra special. Our room was clean, comfortable, and very nice, and every staff member we interacted with was friendly and hardworking. We explored many other hotels while we were on Maui, and honestly, none of them compared to Grand Wailea. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, expansive, and classic. I don't agree with the reviews saying it feels run down. It isn't ultra-modern, but it has a grand, timeless, classic resort feel. The beach out front is amazing. We explored a lot of beaches on Maui, and I never found one I liked better than the beach at Grand Wailea. The resort itself also feels unmatched in size and beauty. No other hotel we saw had the same expansive grounds, pools, landscaping, and overall resort feel. That said, the biggest downside was how much everything felt overpriced. I understand Maui and luxury resorts are expensive, but Grand Wailea sometimes felt like it was nickel-and-diming guests. Valet parking is $75 per day, and when you add in tipping every time you retrieve a rental car, it gets frustrating fast. On Saturday and Sunday evenings, valet was also very slow. One night we waited over 25 minutes. The valet staff were clearly working hard, but they seemed understaffed for the volume of guests. The food pricing was also hard to justify. At the marketplace/counter-service options, we saw coffee for $7.50, hot dogs for $26, hamburgers for $32, and 12-inch pizzas around $30. You also often have to wait in a long line, and if one person is making coffee drinks, it slows the entire line down. Olivine looks beautiful, but the prices were extremely high, including a personal sausage pizza for $38. Considering the mixed reviews, we could not justify eating there. While we were there for over a week, the resort restaurants looked quite empty every day. I truly think if the restaurant prices were even 30% lower, many more guests would stay on property to eat instead of walking across the street to places like Manoli's or Island Gourmet. The pool area was beautiful, and we appreciated little touches like seeing free pineapple passed out at the pool one day. The idea was nice, although the execution could have been better since the server was putting wet pineapple chunks directly into people's hands. We also wish the waterslides stayed open later, especially for families. Grand Wailea does offer free Nespresso coffee in the room, which is nice, but after seeing one too many social media videos about people misusing hotel coffee makers, I personally can't bring myself to use in-room hotel coffee machines anymore. One extra service I would gladly pay for is a paid hospitality suite or shower room option for guests with late flights. So many flights out of Hawaii leave late at night, and after checking out in the morning, it would be incredibly helpful to have a clean, comfortable place to shower and freshen up before heading to the airport. Overall, we loved Grand Wailea and would absolutely recommend it. The staff, room, beach, pools, and grounds were wonderful. I don't understand all the bad reviews because our experience was very positive. The resort is beautiful and memorable. My only real complaint is that the food, coffee, parking, and extras are priced so high that it pushes guests away from spending money on property. One of the elevators was missing a button...the safe in our room only registered 1 2 7 or 8 the other keys did not work, Also the place is very dark at night and definitely needs better lighting esp when you have to walk outside. What a beautiful resort!! The entrance is mesmerizing with all the trees overlapping each other. Service is very kind and attentive. There's a pool for adults only (don't see that too often) very nice if you want laid back peace and quiet. They give massages out by the pool as well. They have the cutest little shopping area by the lobby that you've got to check out! Super fun for you shopping lovers. The rooms are spacious and the view is out of this world! It seems like Grand Wailea is pretty well known as everyone asks if I stayed here when I tell them I visited Maui. I only stopped by here for a few hours to walk around and get the dessert at Loulu. It was over crowded and very busy. If Erewhon was a hotel, Grand Wailea would be a good comparison. It is well known for being expensive, not really a good value and a tourist trap. It is a beautiful looking hotel located right by Wailea beach. The valet service seemed very busy, but considering the size of this establishment, the wait times must be long. read more

My bf and I stayed here through a Costco package and had an amazing time. The Costco package included free breakfast daily, $100 credit towards food daily, 2 hours of hydrotherapy, complimentary room upgrade, and some Costco money back. The resort itself was BEAUTIFUL and very scenic. Lots to explore on the grounds including different pools, shopping, gardens, koi fish, etc. The gym was also pretty nice. Room very spacious and included a balcony with garden view. The spa was a unique experience I'm so glad we got to explore and the amenities inside the spa 10/10! We went in September so it wasn't incredibly crowded but I see what others mean about reserving a chair by the pools. It does fill up quickly! I would say all will be taken around 11am which is unfortunate. Wish there were more shade options without having to pay. One star taken away for how EXPENSIVE overnight valet parking was. We rented a car and they only had valet available so parking each night cost $75. Now that's ridiculous. There should be a self parking option or don't charge as much. Because keep in mind you tip each time they bring/ take your car so that's about $100 daily just to have a car and use it on the grounds. Ridiculous!! read more

This resort is BEAUTIFUL! The pool is are clean and so much fun and you could spend a day Kia walking the grounds of this property. There is so much to see and explore. The beach is calm and easily swimmable. All of the staff were very kind and helpful. They even made special accommodations for us when my son spiked a fever at 2am. The exterior could use a renovation as it's very outdated and lacks wow factor as you pull up. They charge for beach chairs even though you pay that hefty resort fee. I found that kind of ridiculous. And a lei greeting would have bee really nice. I mean I know a lei greeting doesn't seem like a big deal and it isn't, but for the high price you pay to stay here, I think throwing in a lei greeting and some complimentary beach chairs would go a long way. read more

A great place to stay for a luxury experience. It's a very large property with lots of rooms with partial and full ocean views. There are great amenities, good restaurants, and luxury shops all throughout the resort. It is valet parking only at the resort, but they have a fairly efficient system in place. All of the staff at the front desk are extremely friendly and are always more than happy to help. I also always end up getting really good food recommendations from the workers at the bell desk so I definitely recommend asking them for what's good in the area. There are a lot of renovations going on around the resort. Some of the rooms are starting to show their age, but they're slowly updating everything. If given the opportunity, I would recommend staying in the Napua tower as it offers a little bit of a different experience than the rest of the resort. It has a separate check in and two lounge areas for guests in the tower. It also comes with breakfast, afternoon tea, and happy hour. The staff is amazing and they always make the trip really special. The resort is well known for the pool as well as other amenities. The spa has been renovated within the past few years and the gym also offers a wide variety of machines to fit any workout goals. The pool is very well maintained and all of the slides are fun for all ages. We went during off season so some of the slides were closed so that they could be fixed as well. The water elevator is currently still closed but I'm hoping that it will be fixed soon. The resort shares access to the beach with a couple other hotels nearby. They have limited complimentary beach chairs that you can get from the beach desk, but they need to be returned by 3:30pm. They also have larger chairs and umbrellas for a fee. There's fairly good snorkeling off of this beach as well. This is a great place to see at least once even if it's just to walk around the property. The lush gardens and stunning views are things that I think about a lot. Mid-September to mid-October are usually the best times to go because it's the low season. It's much less crowded and gives you a better chance to enjoy the resort. read more

The grounds are stunning, with lush landscaping, well-maintained facilities, and several pool options to enjoy. Although the beach water wasn't quite as clear blue as I had expected, the overall beauty of the property more than made up for it.My main disappointment came after checkout. We received a final bill that differed from the amount we had originally been given. When we called to clarify the discrepancy, the front desk responded as though the mistake was our fault, which felt unprofessional and left a negative impression.Another minor drawback was that some guests came across as unfriendly or somewhat pretentious, which occasionally affected the overall atmosphere. Absolutely everything needs improvement. This hotel is understaffed and needs major upgrades. Nothing like a Waldorf experience. From the dirty disgusting unclean and bug infested rooms, to the terrible breakfast buffet, to the dirty pools, to the unpleasant and not Hawaiian welcome. The pools were filthy and all my kids got sick and all the adults had a terrible case of diarrhea. The Grand Wailea Luau that is supposedly the top 10 was terribly boring and worst food ever. Nothing was edible. For a $300 a ticket at least serve decent quality food. We could have had a delicious dinner at Nubu and had a great experience. We came back starving and threw up anything we had eaten. The only good was the fire show by the chief was awesome. Save your money and time and enjoy somewhere else. Housekeeping management is lacking, please do better. Change bedding between families. We had wrinkled sheets and coffee stains in our beds. read more

Grand Wailea's unofficial motto is, "Should of stayed at Four Seasons." Historically, Grand Wailea made a grand statement with the entryway waterfall and decent service. My Uber drove up to a dry cavern, former waterfall, and I was left to push my luggage to my own room. There was one bell hop for like 6 cars that arrived at the same time. After I pushed my luggage to the front desk, I was left to wander to find my room. There simply is not enough staff for the proportion of guests. Restaurant options are anemic, and simply have no flavor. I was upgraded as a Hilton Gold member to a corner garden deluxe suite. Which is nice in itself, but the 'garden' view is more like a 'parking lot' view. At least I found out why the flood is bland, I saw a Sysco supplier truck. If they going to claim a five star resort experience, I expect something better than Sysco. FYI - Sysco is known for cheap and affordable. Nothing wrong with Sysco, but for $1000 a night, I expect grass fed beef and free range chickens. read more

What an amazing resort located in Wailea. From the moment we arrived we had amazing service from Gloria at the front desk who greeted us with a smile and took the time to explain the resort to us, our free upgrade and other available upgrades to better our experience. Miho from concierge really saved our vacation on day 1, when we could not get a rental car due to a personal mistake. She greeted us with an amazing smile and positive attitude when we were in full panic mode and she took over an hour to help us plan out our activities to save our vacation!! The grounds are breathtaking and you could spend a whole week and not leave the resort because everything you need is available on the grounds. Multiple restaurants, shops and plenty of pool and beach activities for the whole family. The only things that kept me from giving 5 stars are the details and the food offered at the restaurants. The corners of the open air walkways were dirty and there were stains on the floors of the stairs and hallways, not what we have one to expect from a Waldorf Astoria resort. The food options are plenty and they are ok at best but for the price being charged you would expect amazing meals. Good thing is there are amazing restaurants within walking distance of the resort that are worth the money. We can't wait to come back to this amazing resort located in one of the most breathtaking place in the US. read more

We immediately bought some Benadryl consulted a DR friend and he told us to watch her her for the next hour. If any ANAPHYLACTIC reaction, we were to take her immediately to ER. If no anaphylactic reaction occurred it was likely. Scombroid poisoning (histamine fish poisoning) -- happens when fish like tuna (common in poke) isn't kept cold enough, letting bacteria convert histidine in the meat into histamine. Eating it delivers a big dose of histamine directly, causing flushing, rash, headache, sometimes GI symptoms. It mimics an allergic reaction closely but isn't a true immune response. We filed a report twice with security at @thegrandwailea and no response. Not a call. I guess she would have had to go the ER to get a follow up? Maybe not. Shame on you #GrandWailea. I'm not even looking for a refund. Hospitality? How about doing the right thing? How about a check in on your food services? This could have been much worse. I hope no one else was affected. After spending 4 nights at Wailea Beach Resort and experiencing such great hospitality, I had high expectations for Grand Wailea. Unfortunately, while the resort itself is beautiful, the service did not match the level of Hawaiian hospitality we experienced at Wailea Beach Resort. The rooms are a highlight--large, spacious, bright, and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful, and we enjoyed the pools, especially the grotto area and slides. However, the pool area can be confusing to navigate, and the walkways get extremely hot. My daughter almost cried walking back to our chairs because the ground was so hot. There are also no conveniently located restrooms near the pool area. The biggest disappointment was the lack of warmth from the staff. Everyone was polite, but it felt more like they were simply doing their jobs rather than creating a welcoming luxury resort experience. I had requested days in advance to have our room near another family we were traveling with, and the request was noted on our reservation. At check-in, we were told we would need to pay an additional $150/night to be closer. Considering we were already paying around $930/night, that was disappointing. We stayed in the Molokini Tower, which was a long walk from the Wailea Tower where our family was located. To make matters worse, only one elevator was working in our tower during our entire 2-night stay, resulting in long waits. We also missed the small touches we experienced at Wailea Beach Resort, such as lei greetings and a genuine feeling of aloha. At Grand Wailea, we had to go to the pool area each day to get our pool wristbands. Overall, Grand Wailea is a beautiful resort with amazing rooms and amenities. However, for the price point, I expected a much higher level of hospitality. The property is impressive, but the service experience makes me hesitant to return when there are other resorts that may offer a warmer Hawaiian welcome. read more

Definitely not worth the high price tag. The beds are old and sunken and uncomfortable with loud springs when you lay down. We are not handicapped but they put us in a handicapped room and this is a picture of our cramped shower with old shower curtain. At this price there are definitely better options. read more

If only apologies could pay for our visit here. Being this was our anniversary trip that we saved up enough points to stay here for 3 nights we were disappointed from the check in experience to the check out experience. First of all this is a beautiful well maintained picturesque hotel. However, this also means everything is spread out. After checking in late after a long day off flying we were given a site map and pointed in the right direction. We weren't even given a Lei. I was also told that we were upgraded to a ocean view for being a Hilton gold member. So we head off in the direction but got lost assuming we would be closer to the ocean. There are also no signs for the elevators. So finally we get into the room and are immediately unimpressed. The door needs a paint job. There's was also nothing special for our anniversary sent to the room. It was too dark to see the ocean so we went to bed. When we woke we saw this view. We decided we weren't going to be in the room much with all the excursions Maui has to offer and the pools on ground, so I didn't make it a big deal. I'm the morning we decided to see the concierge to see what fun activities the resort fee included. There was NOTHING available for days of our stay! They apologized and said it was spring break and we should have called in advanced to book. They should add more activities if they know they are going to be overbooked! How about snorkeling lessons? Oh that's a 10 minute activity in the pool not in the ocean.. sorry again. Ok let's head to the pools. There are alot of them and a large beach as well. To get a beach chair costs money. They do provide beach chairs (not a lounge one) for free 1st come, 1st serve, but they only carry like 6 total. Again another unused resort fee. Thank God we rented a car since all the on-site food, drink, or cocktail is way overpriced! Pros: Lots of pools. Good kid friendly pools, few hot tubs, nice ambiance, decent water slide. Very good valet service. Cons: Money hungry hotel, no real amenities for the BS resort fee charge, staff was not very helpful, $60 parking charge per day. Very small adults only swim up bar. Blackstone, a private equity firm acquired Grand Wailea in 2018. After staying here, I have figured out why - the classical extract equity and decay plot. Make no mistake, while this property markets itself as a premium $1,000+ a night hotel, comparable to Four Seasons or the Fairmont down the road, it is a basic and dated Hilton Garden Inn. At check in we were placed in an ADA room with hair everywhere and a door that did not lock. After complaining, we were downgraded from a premium (aka a palm tree obstructing an ocean view) to a regular ocean view (aka first floor view of the courtyard). Our downgrade came with black long hairs everywhere, bugs on the ceiling in the bathroom, and mold. After complaining again we were lied to until just giving up and moving on. Everything is dirty here. You go to the gym and have to wipe off layers of disgusting sweat from equipment. Housekeeping is a joke because Private Equity understaffs the property to extract profit (a common theme). The penny pinching is insane. They only have maybe 15-20 free beach chairs so they charge $75+ for upgrades. Valet is $75 a night and they whip your car around like it's Grand Theft Auto, almost running into a young boy. The word "complementary" does not mean the same thing as it does at the Four Seasons. Even out by the pool, no one is there to take your order or provide sun screen. Make no mistake, this is a dirty unstaffed property that Blackstone needs to extract write offs and decay until demand is completely dried out. This is at best a mid tier $300-$400 a night experience, but even then I do not expect the level of filth and poor service. No one seems to care. You work hard for your money, so let your wallet speak and stay anywhere else around here. So like I said, believe the reviews. It wasn't just a bad day, as we have been here 5 days and the property simply doesn't have enough employees to give the experience that a Waldorf Astoria is expected to provide. Don't call down to valet, they don't answer. Just go down and get in line. If heading out to airport or golf, give yourself extra 20-30 min because they often only have one or two people pulling cars. read more

Checked in yesterday. Horrible! The lock on the door experiencing intermittent issues and my door wouldn't lock and you could push it open without using a key. Maintenance came last night and said I need to reschedule a locksmith the following day. An hour after the maintenance person left, first time using the toilet it clogged. Maintenance guy arrived in the morning and couldn't fix it, needs to come back with a bigger machine. Can't even use the bathroom in my own room. They're going to move us but we have to check out of this room by 12p and said they won't have another room for us until after 4p so we have to reschedule our photo appointment at 4p today and they didn't have availability until two days later. At the end of June, my family stayed at the Grand Wailea in Maui for 6 nights and the day after we came back my husband found a bed bug in his suitcase when unpacking. I actually had 3 bites that I found before leaving the hotel but never would have thought a 5 star hotel would have bed bugs. Together we had over 30 bites all over our bodies. We immediately notified the hotel who had us file a report with their security team. They directed us to a claim with their insurance company Sedgwick. A few weeks later the insurance company denied our claim, saying their inspection of the room was negative. We only stayed in one room at this one hotel during our stay so it's clear they are the source. The insurance company will not release a copy of the pest control report, and will not let us appeal the claim or file a new one. The security team at the hotel will not speak with us and keep sending us back to the insurance company. Meanwhile we are out thousands of dollars between the hotel stay and the treatments of our home, not to mention the emotional stress and loss of personal property as well. I have tried multiple times to reach anyone in management who will hear us out and offer to make this right, but have been rudely hung up on or sent directly to voicemail with no efforts made at calling back. We have been dealing with this nightmare for over a month now. Attaching pictures of some of our bites - this has really been the worst travel experience I've ever had. I would definitely avoid staying at this hotel at all costs!! Truly terrible customer service and it has been clear they have no empathy or compassion for their guests, instead only motivated by profit. The building is old, crumbling and poorly maintained. The good: Expansive, beautiful resort. A little too big for my taste (to me the size made it feel impersonal, not very cozy) but my family loved it. Spacious rooms and Aesop toiletries (we stayed in Napua section which cost extra). The pool area was a true playground for the kids. My 11-year-old son loved every moment of it-the waterslides, the water elevator, etc. and wants to go back just for those. Loved the gym-everything you need, multiple levels, wish I could have used it more. The more expensive Napua wing gives you access to a lounge with free breakfast, snacks, cocktail hour. It was a lifesaver not having to worry about buying food, snacks separately when you just wanted a quick bite or something for later. The not-so-good: Customer service was generally lackluster, especially for a resort of this quality. In the Napua wing there was a dedicated person on-site who was great when they were around, but after hours, we had to rely on a text message concierge. They were pretty responsive, but it was weird to have so little human interaction. I don't know if it was a human or AI on the other end. Our phone, TV, blow dryer, digital tablet (which I believe was for accessing service, etc.) weren't working on day one. The tablet wasn't even plugged in and there was no charging cord in sight. Had to reach out to the text message concierge multiple times in a single day to get these issues addressed. I didn't bother trying to get the tablet fixed because I didn't feel like waiting around for repairs while we were on vacation. For such a hotel, I'd expect the basics plus extras to work. The fun parts of the pool area (waterslides, lazy river, etc) were only open until 5pm and the pools closed early as well, unlike some resorts where the pool area is 24 hours. On our first night, both my son's and my new flip-flops were stolen from the pool area. It's our fault for leaving them out, but wish they'd had security cameras. Lost and Found were nice but wish they could have helped more. The bad: Unlike any other Hawaii hotels, we were not greeted with leis upon arrival. When I asked about this, the representative who checked us in said that the resort stopped giving leis last year, despite opposition from the staff. We also stayed at the higher-priced Napua section of the hotel, where you'd expect a little extra aloha would be standard. The resort required that we wear plastic wristbands in order to use the pool area (the kind you have to wear at a concert or theme park that aren't removable). If we cut them off, they warned us that we would have to bring the old wristbands back in order to replace them. This felt cheap, especially having to wear them when dining at one of their nice restaurants, and compared to another chain hotel brand at a lower price point that had charming elastic wristbands that also served as our card keys. After returning home, I discovered a mysterious charge $350+ charge from the hotel on my credit card statement that was not included in my final invoice at checkout. It took me multiple calls, voicemails and emails before I was able to reach a person who could begin to address this. I was told it was a charge from Nobu, one of the restaurants at the hotel. I had dined at the restaurant only once, and I had seen and approved that charge, but this was an additional bill for a night on which I did not dine there. After several days, this issue still has not been resolved and I just sent another email to follow up. Update: After calling back for the nth time, I was able to finally speak with someone, who removed the unrecognized charge right away. I was happy about that, but it would have been better if I had been able to reach a live person quickly vs. over a number of days and if the extra effort was made on their end vs. multiple follow-ups on my part. read more

Came to the Grand Wailea resort with my girlfriend and friends for dinner. Gorgeous resort grounds. Lush gardens, awesome swimming pools with a lazy river. And beautiful lobby. We were there for dinner so I didn't visit any of the guest rooms but considering the rest of the resort I am guessing that they are pretty fantastic. I'd love to stay for a few nights in the future and explore the resort and pools. read more

Caveat, we booked our 5 night trip with points so that definitely helped bump the rating up from 4 stars to 5 stars. This is a beautiful property right on the beach. There is a huge pool area with multiple interconnecting pools and slides. Some people just hang out there for their whole trip. It gets crazy packed with screaming kids during busy season but we went during off season and it was actually quite nice. If you walk several yards out past the hotel you get to a pathway right around the beach. You can go left to walk to the Four Seasons or right to the Andaz. It's definitely worth walking this loop at least once in the morning with a coffee in hand. There is snorkeling at either the Four Seasons or Andaz ends of this beach section. I didn't have much luck as the water was pretty rough and you gotta swim out beyond the outcropping so please be safe and don't overestimate your swimming skills as you're on your own out there. The property has a huge atrium in the middle that's pretty awesome and relaxing to walk through in the early hours of the morning. The rooms themselves have that tropical island vibe which is fine but not amazing. If you are looking for more of a fancy classier vibe then the Ritz would probably be a better choice (although the location for the Ritz is pretty terrible). We got a room upgrade for being diamond members and that made a big difference in my opinion. The room size was the same but we got moved from one of the less desirable spots in the rear tower further away from the beach up to the chapel wing where we had an amazingl view of the chapel gardens and the ocean. Probably top 5 best views from a hotel room i've been in. There is a quick service cafe on property that has your typical mediocre overpriced food. Top tip would be to just walk over the Wailea shops... there is a pathway off the near the parking structure. Probably a 10min walk tops. read more

We spent 4 days there and everything can be had for a price. Not cheap, but the view and beachfront are arguably the best in Maui. We had to eat out for three meals each day. This is the most expensive place in Maui, we will try the Hilton Resort next as that had a kitchen and laundry machine in unit. read more

Staying at the Grand Wailea was a truly beautiful experience. The property is massive and absolutely stunning, with lush surroundings and a luxurious ambiance. That said, be prepared for a lot of walking as the layout requires some effort to get around. The dining options were fantastic. There are plenty of great places to eat on the property and nearby, which made meals a highlight of the trip. We also attended the luau, which was spectacular! While it's on the pricey side, it was so much fun, and even my baby had a great time. It's definitely worth experiencing if you stay here. However, parking is very expensive, and additional costs can quickly add up, especially given the already high cost of staying here. The staff was very friendly, and the overall atmosphere was exceptional. However, I was disappointed that the staff wouldn't add my Hilton account to the reservation because it was booked under my aunt's account for a family trip. Even though the reservation was paid with my card, I wasn't able to earn any Hilton Honors points, which was frustrating. Overall, it's a breathtaking destination with excellent amenities, but the added costs and inflexible rewards policy were downsides to an otherwise memorable stay. read more

Grand Wailea - A Phenomenal Stay in Paradise We had an absolutely incredible two-day stay at the Grand Wailea, and I can't say enough about how much we loved every moment! From the newly renovated spa to the stunning pools and beachfront location, this resort exceeded our expectations in every way. The Spa - A Must-Do Experience The newly renovated Spa at Grand Wailea is worth every penny! If you book a treatment, you get complimentary access to the spa amenities (hydrotherapy pools, steam room, sauna, etc.) for the hour before your service--much better than purchasing a separate pass. I only wish I had known ahead of time how top-notch the locker rooms were--Dyson hair dryers, salon-grade products, and everything you need to get fully ready post-service. Next time, I'll plan to freshen up in the spa rather than heading back to my room! Dining - Incredible Options * Sunset dinner at Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa - see my separate review, but in short, ONO! * Lunch at Olivine - a fantastic escape from the usual poolside dining, more on that in my other review. * Breakfast credit - Thanks to my husband's Hilton status, we had $50 daily credit that we used at the grab-and-go market for extra waters, fresh fruit, and pastries--so convenient! Pools & Beach - Best of Both Worlds The pool area is phenomenal. We captured a GoPro video to remember all the fun, including: Multiple water slides Rope swing The Grotto (adult swim-up bar) Secluded secret hot tubs A 10ft dive pool A separate adult pool for relaxation And just beyond the pools? The beach is RIGHT there. Truly the best of both worlds! Rooms & Service Our room was well-appointed with great products, a safe, two reusable water bottles, and Nespresso coffee pods. We needed a few extra housekeeping items, and service was prompt, friendly, and always with a smile. The Only Downside - Valet Parking The only parking option is valet, and it's steep at $75 per day. While the service was efficient, the cost is something to factor in when budgeting your stay. Final Thoughts - Marriott Loyal No More? As a longtime Marriott traveler, this stay was my husband's planning, and I have to admit--it's making me seriously reconsider Hilton as our go-to. Being able to use travel points to stay at such a stunning resort is a huge win, and with resort fees waived thanks to my husband's status, it made the experience even sweeter. Great hotel- too much plastic waste We enjoyed our stay here and the service is nice. However, there is a huge unnecessary plastic waste. Even we brought our own cups for kids, the waiter/ waitress would relentlessly gave us plastic cups ( I told them no plastic cup and some of them still brought them anyway). Given limited resources and sea location, I really hope they take initiative to reduce plastic waste that are harmful to the precious environment. read more

My partner and I stayed at Grand Wailea to celebrate our birthdays on June 18 and June 19, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. We informed the hotel in advance of our special occasion, but there was no acknowledgment or birthday amenity waiting in our room upon arrival. We were referred to the restaurants, and when a server learned it was our birthdays, the only recognition we received was a verbal congratulations. We even paused for our desserts. While we did not expect anything extravagant, many hotels and restaurants typically offer a small gesture such as a dessert, cake, or card for special occasions. We spent approximately $1,500 dining at the resort during our celebration, yet there was still no additional acknowledgment. For a luxury resort known for its hospitality, we expected a more personalized experience. Overall, the property is beautiful, but the lack of attention to our special occasion left us disappointed. Surely the hotel is going to respond to this and only say a long written sorry or give us another chance/opportunity read more

First off- we love the Grand Wailea but when they come up short for essentially all their guests, I have to call them on it. My wife and I got here on Tuesday March 24, and yesterday, we rented a $600 casabella at the pool - it's a lot but all the beach chairs were taken and we're in Maui so we need a spot by the pool. We noticed there was nobody in the pool which is surprising- we've been to the GWR many times and never see the pool this empty. Then we got in the water and it was FREEZING!! How they could charge $600 for a Casabella ($1350 for a cabana!!) and not spend the money to heat the pool is beyond my comprehension!!!! We come here a lot (3 times in the past 12 months but this trip is making us consider other options. read more
