Grand Wailea Maui, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

This resort is beautiful, spacious, and definitely on the higher end when it comes to price. The grounds are stunning, with lush landscaping, well-maintained facilities, and several pool options to enjoy. Although the beach water wasn't quite as clear blue as I had expected, the overall beauty of the property more than made up for it.My main disappointment came after checkout. We received a final bill that differed from the amount we had originally been given. When we called to clarify the discrepancy, the front desk responded as though the mistake was our fault, which felt unprofessional and left a negative impression.Another minor drawback was that some guests came across as unfriendly or somewhat pretentious, which occasionally affected the overall atmosphere. Despite these issues, this is a gorgeous property with plenty to offer, and it remains a great destination for relaxation and enjoying a memorable vacation.

It is a nice hotel but for what is supposed to be a high end place the maintenance issues are bizarre. One of the elevators was missing a button...the safe in our room only registered 1 2 7 or 8 the other keys did not work, Also the place is very dark at night and definitely needs better lighting esp when you have to walk outside. For the money the food is just okay. On the positive the pool is cool...the place is pretty and the staff is all very nice.

What an amazing resort located in Wailea. From the moment we arrived we had amazing service from Gloria at the front desk who greeted us with a smile and took the time to explain the resort to us, our free upgrade and other available upgrades to better our experience. Miho from concierge really saved our vacation on day 1, when we could not get a rental car due to a personal mistake. She greeted us with an amazing smile and positive attitude when we were in full panic mode and she took over an hour to help us plan out our activities to save our vacation!! The grounds are breathtaking and you could spend a whole week and not leave the resort because everything you need is available on the grounds. Multiple restaurants, shops and plenty of pool and beach activities for the whole family. The only things that kept me from giving 5 stars are the details and the food offered at the restaurants. The corners of the open air walkways were dirty and there were stains on the floors of the stairs and hallways, not what we have one to expect from a Waldorf Astoria resort. The food options are plenty and they are ok at best but for the price being charged you would expect amazing meals. Good thing is there are amazing restaurants within walking distance of the resort that are worth the money. We can't wait to come back to this amazing resort located in one of the most breathtaking place in the US.

My bf and I stayed here through a Costco package and had an amazing time. The Costco package included free breakfast daily, $100 credit towards food daily, 2 hours of hydrotherapy, complimentary room upgrade, and some Costco money back. The resort itself was BEAUTIFUL and very scenic. Lots to explore on the grounds including different pools, shopping, gardens, koi fish, etc. The gym was also pretty nice. Room very spacious and included a balcony with garden view. The spa was a unique experience I'm so glad we got to explore and the amenities inside the spa 10/10! We went in September so it wasn't incredibly crowded but I see what others mean about reserving a chair by the pools. It does fill up quickly! I would say all will be taken around 11am which is unfortunate. Wish there were more shade options without having to pay. One star taken away for how EXPENSIVE overnight valet parking was. We rented a car and they only had valet available so parking each night cost $75. Now that's ridiculous. There should be a self parking option or don't charge as much. Because keep in mind you tip each time they bring/ take your car so that's about $100 daily just to have a car and use it on the grounds. Ridiculous!!

This resort is BEAUTIFUL! The pool is are clean and so much fun and you could spend a day Kia walking the grounds of this property. There is so much to see and explore. The beach is calm and easily swimmable. All of the staff were very kind and helpful. They even made special accommodations for us when my son spiked a fever at 2am. The exterior could use a renovation as it's very outdated and lacks wow factor as you pull up. They charge for beach chairs even though you pay that hefty resort fee. I found that kind of ridiculous. And a lei greeting would have bee really nice. I mean I know a lei greeting doesn't seem like a big deal and it isn't, but for the high price you pay to stay here, I think throwing in a lei greeting and some complimentary beach chairs would go a long way.

This hotel was just beautiful! The multiple pools and restaurants available were amazing. The staff was super nice and the entire place was so clean, neat and tidy.

A great place to stay for a luxury experience. It's a very large property with lots of rooms with partial and full ocean views. There are great amenities, good restaurants, and luxury shops all throughout the resort. It is valet parking only at the resort, but they have a fairly efficient system in place. All of the staff at the front desk are extremely friendly and are always more than happy to help. I also always end up getting really good food recommendations from the workers at the bell desk so I definitely recommend asking them for what's good in the area. There are a lot of renovations going on around the resort. Some of the rooms are starting to show their age, but they're slowly updating everything. If given the opportunity, I would recommend staying in the Napua tower as it offers a little bit of a different experience than the rest of the resort. It has a separate check in and two lounge areas for guests in the tower. It also comes with breakfast, afternoon tea, and happy hour. The staff is amazing and they always make the trip really special. The resort is well known for the pool as well as other amenities. The spa has been renovated within the past few years and the gym also offers a wide variety of machines to fit any workout goals. The pool is very well maintained and all of the slides are fun for all ages. We went during off season so some of the slides were closed so that they could be fixed as well. The water elevator is currently still closed but I'm hoping that it will be fixed soon. The resort shares access to the beach with a couple other hotels nearby. They have limited complimentary beach chairs that you can get from the beach desk, but they need to be returned by 3:30pm. They also have larger chairs and umbrellas for a fee. There's fairly good snorkeling off of this beach as well. This is a great place to see at least once even if it's just to walk around the property. The lush gardens and stunning views are things that I think about a lot. Mid-September to mid-October are usually the best times to go because it's the low season. It's much less crowded and gives you a better chance to enjoy the resort.

Grand Wailea's unofficial motto is, "Should of stayed at Four Seasons." Historically, Grand Wailea made a grand statement with the entryway waterfall and decent service. My Uber drove up to a dry cavern, former waterfall, and I was left to push my luggage to my own room. There was one bell hop for like 6 cars that arrived at the same time. After I pushed my luggage to the front desk, I was left to wander to find my room. There simply is not enough staff for the proportion of guests. Restaurant options are anemic, and simply have no flavor. I was upgraded as a Hilton Gold member to a corner garden deluxe suite. Which is nice in itself, but the 'garden' view is more like a 'parking lot' view. At least I found out why the flood is bland, I saw a Sysco supplier truck. If they going to claim a five star resort experience, I expect something better than Sysco. FYI - Sysco is known for cheap and affordable. Nothing wrong with Sysco, but for $1000 a night, I expect grass fed beef and free range chickens.

This place is amazing especially the breakfast buffet. Has a great gym with free fruit in it too I loved it there also some exceptional snorkeling around the resort and off the beach to the right.

Blackstone, a private equity firm acquired Grand Wailea in 2018. After staying here, I have figured out why - the classical extract equity and decay plot. Make no mistake, while this property markets itself as a premium $1,000+ a night hotel, comparable to Four Seasons or the Fairmont down the road, it is a basic and dated Hilton Garden Inn. At check in we were placed in an ADA room with hair everywhere and a door that did not lock. After complaining, we were downgraded from a premium (aka a palm tree obstructing an ocean view) to a regular ocean view (aka first floor view of the courtyard). Our downgrade came with black long hairs everywhere, bugs on the ceiling in the bathroom, and mold. After complaining again we were lied to until just giving up and moving on. Everything is dirty here. You go to the gym and have to wipe off layers of disgusting sweat from equipment. Housekeeping is a joke because Private Equity understaffs the property to extract profit (a common theme). The penny pinching is insane. They only have maybe 15-20 free beach chairs so they charge $75+ for upgrades. Valet is $75 a night and they whip your car around like it's Grand Theft Auto, almost running into a young boy. The word "complementary" does not mean the same thing as it does at the Four Seasons. Even out by the pool, no one is there to take your order or provide sun screen. Make no mistake, this is a dirty unstaffed property that Blackstone needs to extract write offs and decay until demand is completely dried out. This is at best a mid tier $300-$400 a night experience, but even then I do not expect the level of filth and poor service. No one seems to care. You work hard for your money, so let your wallet speak and stay anywhere else around here. I promise you, this hotel is not worth anywhere close to what they ask and you will get better hard and soft products elsewhere. Thank you.

Nice, bright and good size bathroom.

While we enjoyed our first stay at this beautiful hotel with its many activities and dining options, a few things were disappointing. In-room dining ends at 9:00 PM, which felt unusually early. For a highly rated hotel, the lack of shuttle or transportation service to and from the airport was also disappointing. Notwithstanding a few flaws, it still is one heck of hotel to stay on Maui, just for the memories and possibly once a lifetime experience.

This resort was part of the Amex FHR hotels. The staff was super nice; I was curious how our room was an ocean view bc it seemed more garden? The valet parking is a lot ($75/night). The pool is definitely the star- the grotto bar is super cool. Be wary of the water slides as they are quite fast! The resort fee covers beach chairs- these are Tommy Bahamas chairs, not lounge chairs.

I know there's a handful of less than ideal reviews; but my husband and I are staying here right now and we must say it is truly wonderful. All staff have been fantastic, especially Malia at the concierge in the Napua Tower. We are dinner at Olivine last night and our server Lori was a dream, then at Humuhumunukunukuapaua tonight and Randall and Nathan were both so sweet! Even at the adult only pool the staff there made laps every 15 minutes to see if we needed anything. The slides are super fun and the pools are amazing and fun and the private beach is a huge hit. I'm sad to see others aren't having the same experience as us because we're truly having the stay of a lifetime and I wish everyone could experience what we're experiencing. Can't wait for our Luau experience tomorrow!

Similarly, the lounge chairs on the beach are within inches of each other. When sitting on your lanai, the music from one corporate cocktail event or another provides the soundtrack for the evenings. And one final nit -- the Nespresso capsules in the room were very nice, but the coffee served at breakfast was abysmal. So don't get me wrong. This is a very nice place and we had an enjoyable stay. But if you're sensitive to having your own space most of the time, this might not work for you.

There is a more…read moresignificant meaning behind the word and they have several books inside the hotel that gives a deeper dive into the history and other Relais & Châteaux in the world. Apparently it used to be a Japanese club called the Diamond, but was converted to a hotel after seeing the club die out. I booked this hotel for a variety of reasons. The biggest reason being that this is an adults only hotel. Upon doing my research of Maui, I figured that the south west side was probably going to be better for calmer waters and a more tranquil place for a relaxing vacation with my wife who is expecting. I am glad I chose Hotel Wailea rather than other hotels around the area including Grand Wailea or Four Seasons. Another reason is that I was able to book directly on their website and save some money on their insider rate (nonrefundable). I always try to book directly so that it benefits the hotel. It also benefits me because I was able to save 30% on the rate and got a few bonus perks. It was a little bit of a gamble due to the extreme weather that they had prior to coming, but luckily everything worked out and the weather was beautiful during my stay. Being a smaller hotel, I noticed more attention to detail and much better service than any other hotels that I have stayed at in the past. Upon coming to the hotel with my rental car, the valet service greeted us and took care of all our bags and showed us to the check in area. We were greeted with a flower lei for my wife and a kukui nut lei for me. The check in process took a few minutes to explain the layout of the hotel and details. We got a free valet parking since we stayed 5 days at the hotel and also got a $100 dining credit. I am glad we got the valet parking since I read that the parking spots can be tight and distant from everything. The valet took us to our stay with a golf cart loaded with our luggage. Upon entering our suite, there was a welcome gift including some chocolates and alcohol free champagne. The suite is filled with everything you need. They have a fridge stocked with soft drinks and sparkling water that is all complimentary. They also have bottles of water and you can request more. You are able to take beach chairs, umbrellas, parasol and towels to the beach. They have shuttle rides that can take you to nearby area up to a certain distance. They will also pick you up if you call them. The shower and bath had the best water pressure I've seen anywhere. The bathtub was huge and it actually filled relatively quickly. They have a TV in the bedroom and in the lounge area. The outdoor patio provided a really nice view towards the ocean, garden and sky. I stayed very close to the gym which was a huge plus. I was able to use it every morning and was the only one there every morning prior to sunrise. Working out pre-sunrise to sunrise in a open door setting was a great experience. They have some unique free weights that mimics a natural wood look. There is a row machine, a coupe of treadmills, elliptical and peloton for cardio. Other basic machines that uses a pulley and weight system are available. They have several yoga mats as well for any floor exercises. The pool area seemed busy during the day so I went after sunset mostly. The water is heated so it is very comfortable. There is a beautiful sunset view from the restaurant or from the birdcage. Depending on who you ask and what circumstances they have, it could vary what expensive is, but it is certainly not cheap or affordable here. You are paying for more than just a view here. The entire experience is curated for you. The staff here does a phenomenal job at keeping this property well-maintained and running. The restaurant and hotel has a premium price, but for a premium experience. There are other experiences here that you can book on their website or contacting the front desk. The front desk, housekeeping and valet were all so easy to contact with the phone in the room. We tried the in room dining once and although it took some time, it was a nice experience. Known for its tranquil adults-only atmosphere, attentive service, and luxurious amenities, Hotel Wailea offers a beautifully curated and premium Hawaiian getaway that is well worth the high price tag.

The entire property is stunning -- from the lush tropical gardens and peaceful atmosphere to the incredible ocean views that make you feel like you're in a dream. The staff were all so friendly, warm, and accommodating -- every interaction felt genuine and personal. The resort has so much to offer -- beautiful suites, relaxing pool areas, and amazing dining options. You can really feel the attention to detail and care in every part of the experience. It's the perfect place to unwind, recharge, and feel completely at peace. I can't recommend Hotel Wailea enough -- it's truly a slice of paradise, and I can't wait to come back!

Our room had a couch, dining table, bath and a half and a tub shower combo and a fire pit outside!! Had the Costco package and breakfast was included, it was a buffet style and just fine for starting us out in the morning. The resort had lots of pools and was in between two beaches, so we were always hanging out at either a beach or pool. There are a lot of stairs here. We like that we could go down to the one beach and there were beach chairs provided there from the hotel, I you got there early enough. We never ate on property except for breakfast so we can't comment on the other restaurants. Want to visit again sometime. PS-We saw the biggest, fastest spider on our patio at night, decided to only go out there during the day after that.

Upon arrival, it took over two hours for bell service to deliver our luggage to our room. Once we finally settled in, we discovered the room had not been properly cleaned. There were hairs and sand throughout the bathroom and room, and our children even found toys left behind from previous guests. To make matters worse, the room phone was broken, making it difficult to contact hotel staff when assistance was needed. My husband is a Titanium Elite Marriott Bonvoy member, and we have generally come to expect a higher level of service and attention to detail when staying at Marriott properties. Unfortunately, there was no recognition of his status during our stay, and the overall experience did not reflect the level of hospitality we have received at other Marriott resorts. After bringing our concerns to management's attention, the hotel did remove the upgrade charge for our first night, which we appreciated. However, the issues have continued throughout our stay. We are currently on day four of our five-night stay, and these problems have not been isolated incidents. Most recently, despite being out of the room for the entire day, housekeeping again failed to service our room. For the price point and reputation of this resort, we expected a much higher standard of cleanliness, service, and attention to detail. The property itself is stunning, and the grounds are truly one of the resort's strongest features, but the repeated service failures throughout our stay have significantly impacted what should have been a relaxing family vacation. While we appreciate the effort made to address some of our concerns, we hope management takes a closer look at the consistency of housekeeping, room readiness, and guest service so future guests have an experience that better reflects the Marriott brand.

We do not recommend staying at this hotel for the following reasons;…read more 1). Front desk staff had an awful attitude when we asked questions and /or say hello, good morning etc. SPECIALLY THE TALL WOMAN WITH LONG HAIR (a local) you could tell she hated every guest. Everyone who's not from the island. We had no other choice lady! our company sent us there. we went there to work not to stay there forever. Also the other local women working in the front desk were very Apathetic/rude. In contrast the other staff who weren't locals were very polite and welcoming. 2). Rooms. The carpet is extremely filthy (wear flip flops otherwise your feet will be pitch black from the dirt ) our room was cleaned very late in the afternoon almost every day. Some days it was cleaned very well in the morning but when it was done in the afternoon, it wasn't clean well. No kitchen counters were cleaned, rug was not vacuumed and the shower had dirt on it, PUBIC HAIR! And on the sink counter as well. Very gross. Also the bed wasn't even made properly. 3). Noise! Walls are very thin. We could hear people screaming, laughing, slamming doors you name it! The good: The staff in the restaurant area were very lovely. The breakfast buffet was pretty good To the ladies or managers or whoever is putting a blind eye on how front desk staff is treating guests, you don't have the right to be disrespectful. If you can't stand/tolerate people who's not from your community, don't work on hospitality. Don't work for the industry that's bringing /welcoming people from all over the world. There's more to learn and see beyond your island. We come from a country/community that respects other people, cultures and will welcome you with open arms and respect. Don't hate us. Instead, focus your energy towards organizing and fighting the rich and powerful who are the real villains for taking away your land.

I initially planned on canceling our trip, but the hotel asked that we still come since they needed the business. I just didn't want to be in the way, but Lahaina is far away so we had no impact. It's in a great location near the center of Wailea and close to Kihei so it makes for easy travel. Love our stay here.
