Took a look at the park since it was a little nicer out and was very quiet. Another women was walking around and they were working on the road leaving the park sure is different without a crowd around.The lake was still frozen and little water at the beach line was a different experience in the winter read more

This park has been on my list for quite sometime to check out, and what better way to do it then through the New York Park & Recreation that offer guide tours and events free of charge in local Western New York parks. Matt, I've had as a guide at numerous hikes at Knox Farm for previous events. The hike that sparked my interest was the Monrach Butterfly hike. As a nature lover , and a fan of butterflies in general it was very informative and interesting. We learned how to mark butterflies, identify their sex by the dot on their wings, how to properly hold them, and that holding by their leading edges wont harm them. If your looking for a fun, all around kid/adult friendly activity I suggest to take a hike with New York Parks & Recreation. Matt is friendly, easy to get along with and knowledgeable on any nature, along with insects. Evangola is great for camping, nature trails, staying in their urts, beach and just to enjoy the day. Fun fact there have been over 37 spieces of butterflies identified at the park. read more

If you're looking for a more tame, kid-friendly park this summer, try Evangola! Amazing wide open shoreline and even a small beach greet you as you pull in to the parking lot. Restroom Facilities, shelters, playgrounds (although they are off-limits currently due to COVID-19) provide a very family-friendly day outdoors. There is also a hiking trail, but since we were there before opening am day, they were still muddy and not yet maintained. So we left with wet shoes after trying to leap from dry spot to dry spot. The campgrounds are interesting with permanent structures available for rent. Each holds bunk beds, dressers, and a mini fridge! Perfect for a less rustic camping experience. It's a beautiful park, and adults as well as kids will find things to do! read more

Very nice campground! It isn't the biggest campground but it is great. The sites have a decent amount of space; only electric or dry. But there is water access spread out. Beach area is great and very clean. The kiddo loved the playgrounds, and there are three to choose from! It is a very dog friendly campground, so expect barking and dogs on walks. This park is beautiful and there is plenty of space for family gatherings and festivities. The beach is large enough to encourage social distancing between groups. There is almost always a lifeguard on duty to encourage safe swimming in the designated areas. Though be prepared, there are alot of rocks on the beach and it continues about 10 feet leading into the water... I've stubbed a couple toes getting in and out. There is an entry fee of about $7 per car when you first enter the park but it is well spent, go enjoy what nature has to offer! read more

I've always enjoyed this park as a kid and the drive down there is always nice and relaxing. No fee to park before Memorial Day.... plenty of lots to find a spot. The beach is very clean and well kept, lots of shelters and restrooms (which are limited to only one open during the pandemic) on the premises. There are hiking trails too, although they are not labeled well, so we did some "off-roading" and got quite muddy in the process. Once the weather gets nicer, I do suggest packing up a picnic lunch, bringing your bikes and/or your bathing suit, and enjoy one of WNY's best beaches! Came here for a wonderful beach day on a super hot summer afternoon and we had a lovely time. The beach and park were beautiful and everything was very well kept up and tidy. They have programs running and the landscaping, flowers, and facilities were well kept up and accessible. The beach and water were lovely as well with life guards watching over their swimming area. There is plenty of parking and places to enjoy a picnic or just relax in some green space here. This park does collect a parking fee of $7 so be aware of that. Loved this place, and looking forward to coming back soon. read more

We are camping here and have been for 4 nights now. The park is beautiful and situated right on Lake Erie. Big beach area, large picnic area and plenty of picnic shelters for parties, family reunions, etc. There is even a pretty gazebo for wedding ceremonies with colorful flowers and landscaping around it that sits on a bluff/point overlooking the Lake . The campgrounds are nice, clean. We are on an electric site and each comes with a picnic table and fire pit. Some sites are more private (we moved to really nice private site) than others but most not very private. I do have to say the people,here for the most part, are very considerate of their neighbors and everyone is friendly. We have kayaked, biked and swam while here. Will come back now that my daughter has moved to the Buffalo area. read more

I went on off season which means no admission to the park first off. The entrance has a long road to the park covered in wide open grass fields so definitely space to set up and play for plenty of people. The facilities were not open the day I went as well but they are planted I. The middle of the park which is convenient for everyone. There didn't seem to be too many roads to get lost. We went straight to the beach (even through we're from VA) to see the sight! It was gorgeous. The beach was in the process of being cleaned up of a lot of driftwood debris. There was a ton of it. Definitely perfect for a crafter. The rocks were great too. Nice flat smooth rocks even some red tinted ones. It was a nice change from shells, lol. We didn't walk the whole length but if I came back I would. Because it was a winter day I'm wondering how packed the beach gets? There is plenty of space as it is long but it would be a sight to see an actual summer scene compared to my winter one. In all its a large park with plenty of space: shelters, picnic tables, a playground and grills! read more

Traveling with cats Boston to LA: DAY 2 Very nice, large, lake side park with fine camping facilities. Despite the fact that we failed to understand that although pets are welcome at there park they are Not welcome in yurts and the beaches were closed, we would have been happy to sit on the broad lawns and stroll along the bluffs framing the shores of Lake Erie and leave the cats in the car for two nights. Sadly, we felt Yurt #1 had a toxic fume problem and had to leave a day early. I suspect something was recently varnished and despite leaving the windows open and fan on, by the morning my lungs hurt and I couldn't breathe inside. The supervisor, Mr. Brown reported there have been no other complaints besides mine so maybe I'm super sensitive? He was kind enough to assure me he'd OK my request for a refund but I anticipate reserve America may not be so understanding... I've debated posting this review because I really do strive to be an objective yelper and this issue may be my own personal issue, but I do feel it's not a healthy environment if you have asthma or small children I do not think you want to sleep here. Fumes aside, this set up is super comfy and handsome. Fridge, microwave bunk beds, indoor picnic table and outside BBQ pit- even a couch and ceiling fan! If you don't smell varnish, you will love it. read more

Great park! We were only booking a one night stay, so no advance reservations unfortunately (2 night min), but was still able to get a waterfront electric site with arrival around 6pm on a weekday. Even though we were tent camping, and didnt need electric, these sites are much nicer and more spacious than the designated tent camping area. You can park your car right on site (whereas the tent camping area has a parking lot). There is a fire ring, as well as a charcoal grill. Firewood is for sale at the office. We were lucky enough to have trees for dog tie outs and the hammock! This is a very dog friendly park, for responsible owners. The only place dogs are not allowed is the beach. Everything was clean, especially the bathrooms, and they had nice extra amenities like a dishwashing area for long term campers. The staff is helpful, and security is visible at night. Fellow campers were friendly and respectful. There is a narrow but scenic nature trail that runs around the outskirts. There were 2 downsides, however. The beach is quite a hike and not easily accessible from the campground. While some of the campsites are "waterfront" they sit at the top of a cliff, so water is not reachable from there either. The other downside is there must be nearby train tracks as the horns were somewhat loud through out the night. Neither of these things is enough to deter me from coming back! read more

What an absolutely worthless disc golf course. First off, it's hard to find the first hole. There are no signs, maps (aside from the chicken scratch one you can get a handout of from the pay booth), or throwing pads. There are just the blue, white and red markers, which while they've been freshly painted, are still pretty hard to find. Second, the place was a marsh! It's been sunny for 2 days, it could have drained, but the location is just too low. It was so bad, I myself gave up after a few holes and went to enjoy the beach (which is actually pretty cool) because it was awful and my eBook on my phone was way more enjoyable. I understand it only got worse from the ones who went on without me. Third, the course is not laid out like the designer knew how to play disc golf. It was as if someone had been like "Oh, Beaver Island has things like this, let's do this." But Beaver Island is strategic. Those baskets are placed with the curve and throwing technique of discs in mind. Someone at Evangola heard "golf" in disc golf and made an entire course that's bat shit crazy. It's not even technical--it's just bad. For disc golf, it's not worth the $7 to get in. Screw it. For a family outting on the beach and you need a place to kayak or launch your boat? Knock yourself out; the beach line is gorgeous with fantastic scenery, sandy beaches, and cliffs in the distance. You can swim, boat, or paddle. It's great. Just terrible for disc golf, I won't be going back. read more

This is a large, wooded state park that fronts on Lake Erie. It has a soft, sandy swimming beach with a very gradual slope. According to NRDC's "Testing the Waters: New York", this beach has the best water quality in Erie County (and many of our beaches are poor), so a great place for kids to swim. 7% of water samples here failed last year, versus 32% failure rate for Woodlawn Beach. The beach seems to be less busy than other Erie County beaches, probably because it is a little further away from the city. Like most NYS parks, there is a $6 per vehicle per day gate fee to drive into the park. The park has a many wooded picnic shelters on a bluff overlooking the lake. Plumbed restrooms in three locations. There is a campground with 80 camp sites and one cabin. Other amenities: basketball, baseball, horse shoes, volleyball, a nice playground over sand, frisbee golf (but boring layout). Main beach house is a little run down, and there are no concessions. Compared to many beach parks in the area, there is a lot more to do here if you want to get out of the sun. Very friendly, relaxed, place to spend an afternoon or a camping weekend. read more

I think this state park is a wonder. I have been using this park since I was a little girl. The beach is well groomed with lifeguards on staff during the summer time. There is a fee to enter the park. They have a Restaurant where you can get refreshments or you can bring your own picnic lunch. Park hours are from dawn till dusk and you don't have to pay to get in during the off seasons. Pets are allowed on a leash. The bathrooms are clean and open during summer but closed off season. The scenery is spectacular on Lake Erie. You can walk or cross country ski during the winter. The is a great destination for some family fun read more

Had a super great time spending the night at this awesome state park just west of Buffalo. It is particularly easy to get to from the new york thruway.the campsite that we had occupied was well maintaines and clea. Staff and management were very friendly and helpfil instead of being crude and disrespectful. would not mind coming here again. :) read more

Evangola has a new playground. This is much needed. There's soft ground under it which is so nice. Almost like a foam. So fun. The beach was very clean as well as bathrooms. They have a little snack shack but that's mostly drinks and popsicles don't expect to eat a burger or hot dog. For a family of 5 I dont mind spending the parking fee not much a family can do for $7. Every state park cost. There's 2 playgrounds, a beach tons of areas to sit good for walking or rollerblading. There's also a camp site but we didn't go over there read more

After six years and this place still looks the same. Took a stroll down there with one of my friends. We had a great walk by the water, but seeing dead fish every ten steps was not the ideal walk I was hoping for. Also there is so much shells on the ground, it made the walking even more interesting. We were making crunchy music with our feet, I purposely stepped on them. What I loved most though, was the sound of the water. It sounded so good, I recorded it and making it my sleeping melody. After the walk we brought out chairs and sat facing the water just listening to the sound of the waves, and sipped on some wine. Never felt so relaxed on a Monday, the start to the stress week. So i conclude by saying that a little bit of cleaning at the area is definitely a must, because it is definitely a nice place to sit kick back and relax. read more

Horrible park! Camping sites are all on top of each other. You can't park next to your site. You have to park where there's not enough parking spots and 60 yards to your vehicle every time you need something because if you don't the over-officious public safety patrol officer will issue you a ticket. The public rest areas are filthy and the stalls are not even large enough to move in. I'll never go there again. read more

We spent the weekend at Evangola and we will never go back. We had such a horrible experience with the park police. The beach was awesome but the one officer they had patrolling the park was crazy. He would drive through our loop every 20-30 minutes with a park ranger following in another car. Why?? Who knows. We had a group of 25 people and the first night at 10:06 he came screeching into our site because someone's car alarms had gone off. He demanded that the registrants of the sight were to come over to him immediately and threatened us all with fines and jail if we didn't comply with the rules. We were not disorderly in any way or even loud for that matter. There was no reason for him to harass us the way he did. The next night he sat at the corner of our site for about 30 minutes and as he left I found out that he had followed my son and his friend down to the beach area. They had started a campfire down there, which I guess is really illegal, but none of us knew that. He ended up writing my son a ticket for that but threatened him with two other tickets. One for being on the beach past 10 pm and one for taking the beach trail to the beach?? I guess he says that is not the proper way to get to the beach. We were supposed to drive our cars around the block a mile and get to the beach that way. As he was speaking to my son my husband and I walked up to find out what was going on and he wouldn't speak to us about it. He said he was dealing with my son and that we needed to leave the area. When we didn't ( I think we were both dumbfounded) He called for back up and threatened to put "our ass" in jail. We were not belligerent, we felt we had the right to know what was going on with our kid. Once we went back to our sight my sister in law walked by the park officer and his back up and the ranger to use the bathroom and heard him call me a bitch. Just an unbelievable experience and I will be filing a complaint with his office. Edit Delete read more

When we arrived on Thursday September 11 at 6pm at Evangola state park no one was at the office it was closed with an envelope that had our key taped to the door. We went to our room and tried to check things out before it got too dark. We kept hearing a strange beeping noise coming from the carbon monoxide monitor. You couldn't concentrate much less sleep with such noise. We tried the heat and it didn't work and then we turned on the stove and that didn't work either then we noticed mouse pooping on the mattresses the stove top was dirty and we opened the oven and that was filthy we thought this was a little weird. 30 min later we noticed 1 mouse walking on the ceiling beam and a few minutes later another mouse. We made the decision to sleep in our car that night since we couldn't speak to anyone as the office was closed. The next morning we told Sue Peterson the park receptionist about the situation in the cabin she told us that nobody had been there in a week to clean or check the state of the cabin. She said "With the cold mice might have gotten in". She said she didn't blame us for leaving and would be happy to start the process of a refund she was very apologetic and gave us her number so as to call if any concerns. After 3 weeks and we did not hear a thing from Her we started inquiring as to when we would get our $350 refund. We were forwarded to the park ranger Greg Brown who informed us that they do not give refunds and that mice are common in cabins (I've never encountered mice in any cabin I've been to here in Canada). Finally after pleading my case Greg acquiesced to a partial refund. It took over 2 months but in late November I got a little less than $100 refunded. I advice any who are interested in this state park to think 2x before booking a cabin. The park itself is a disappointment the lake is not swimmable there is nothing to do there and of course mice Cabins I wish I knew this before wasting my time and money and then having to go to a hotel to spend the same amount.
