Sorry, Sturegon Point for the beach being very well kept and marnia...this is a sad excuse for a…read morenature trail. The sign is very deceiving from the street, as you turn in one would picture a nice trail, from the picnic areas. Lot if overgrown trees, garbage, numerous amounts of poison ivy growing out of tree. It looks from the signs found throughout the trail, it may have been nice at once; not anymore. The location isnt ideal either being next too a sewage treatnent plant. My best advice dont waste your time, hike elsewhere . Evangola state park is close.

When Googling hiking trails in this area, Sturgeon Point Nature Trail came up as an option. We were…read moreunfamiliar with it, so on this beautiful October day we took a drive to check it out. There is a small sign on Sturgeon Point Road to turn into Sturgeon Point Park, where the trailhead is located. Parking in the paved lot is easy, there are several spots. Also in the park are a couple small picnic pavilions, each with a couple picnic tables and a grill. There are no bathroom facilities here. Behind each pavilion is a trailhead, neither of which is marked very well. If looking at the pavilions, we started with the trail to the left. We quickly turned around, as it was fairly overgrown with pricker bushes, and appeared to end shortly in what looked like a campground. The trail to the right was a bit wider. We stayed straight on the trail, noticing along the way a few ways to veer, but we decided to stay on the main trail. The trail doesn't seem to be maintained all that extensively, the offshoots even less so. And the main trail only lasted maybe ten minutes, because it ends abruptly at a beautiful large clearing with a gazebo overlooking Lake Erie. Sturgeon Point Marina is just over the ledge, with a beach area and a wall of large sand dunes. We ended up enjoying the beach and the dunes more than we did the trails, as it was such a nice surprise on a warm October day. (FYI, there are bathroom facilities at the beach.) The nature trails themselves here weren't stellar, but the one did have some turns we didn't try, so perhaps it extends longer into the woods. We would definitely return here to revisit the beach and dunes though, and maybe try some other directions on the trail.
