When I reminded them that they were the ones who had performed the original work, the response was essentially, "Oh, we can just repair these couple of bricks. It's not a big deal." Update to this is I just had my fp flue and furnace flue scoped by camera and a drone put on top of…read morethe fp. They (Naperville Fireplace) said the tuckpointing looks good but what I need is a liner for the inside of the flue coming from my furnace and water heater (they are the third people to tell me that). When I asked if they thought the previous leaks in my basement were due to any type of mortar failure on the outside (I already had the bottom of the mortar fixed by ANT Masonry for a minimal cost), they said no--it's probably because you have some failure inside the flue for the furnace and that dampness is coming into the basement. Interesting. I've actually had no dampness in basement since the bottom of the mortar was repaired and the lower brick was tuckpointed. So, on to the chimney liner.....
