I just read all of the previous reviews, and every single one is spot on! (That includes the few that are 'quarantined'.) Meaning, it's fun, it's warm, it's good year round, and it is dirty. It is also redeemable and could be clean with a couple of hours of work each night. (Of course, if a real effort was made it could be 'wonderful' and clean. I would expect the town, the new owners, to make that investment, but they haven't yet.) I have visited the Plunge many times over more than 30 years while it has deteriorated. I don't particularly appreciate the way the pool has been divided and redivided. I suspect they did it in an effort to cut down on collisions and bumps between enthusiastic kids, but it detracts from some of the 'best of' features. (Fun involves a certain amount of risk or it isn't much fun.) When you try to swing on the rings, you have to be aware that 'what goes up, must come down'. If you hang onto the ring and let go as you approach the wall, you're going to get bumped. How badly you will bump is entirely up to the athlete. It is better to take your fall in the water!!! I'm 72, and my sense of balance suffers. I took the outside water slide that hooks back into the building just before it dumps you in the outside pool. I won't say I came anything close to drowning, but I did take on more water than my thirst required. The last turn takes you back into the building out of the bright daylight. It feels pitch black for a moment before you strike water. I lost all sense of direction and orientation just as I hit. I was scrambling around for several seconds, completely lost. Subsequent runs were much better and more fun. I knew what to expect and when to expect it. (Which brings up another subject: The mats used on the slides should be replaced more often. Many are torn up and ratty looking.) My wife, also 72, and I, intended to stay for about 4 hours, but found ourselves exhausted after an hour and a half. I had so many wonderful memories of the plunge as a kid/teen. It was one of the things I wanted to share with my grandchildren. What a big disappointment! The guards at the pools were absolutely rude and very unfriendly. The kids and I stayed about an hour and after all the rudeness and comments decided it was time to go. This was July 28, 2009 and today is August 3, 2009. I am still so very upset. Our entire trip the kids made comments about how awful it was there and wondered why we went out of our way to go there! Not only was everyone so rude - the place was filthy . Everyone at the plunge was rude from the lady at the store, the ticket takers, everyone associated with the plunge - maybe time for a little training there. won't be back! read more

Ok, the kids love it, but it is a pool with a water slide. What is there not to love about that? Now, for the adult review. The deepest this pool gets is five feet. And the floor of the entire place is covered with river rock. Yes, rocks. Do not come here without water socks. Regarding this being a hot springs? It is more like an indoor pool with semi-warm water. After 10 minutes in the water, I left. Over priced for what you get. The outdoor portion only opened at 7:30, but it was too cold to utilize. The dressing rooms are nasty, the place seemed dirty overall, and I had quite the smell on me after I left. Not sure where they get hot spring water from, but it just seemed like a semi-warm indoor pool without chemicals to kill anything that might be in the water. read more

Just watch out for the bathrooms. They are the most dirty bathrooms I've ever been in. But the plunge area is pretty fun overall.

we did a family trip through the black hills and stopped here. Our family had a great time. It was really cold outside but nice and warm inside. The kids loved it. The slides are not to scary for them. It's not a trill ride park but it is a nice place to spend a family day for sure. read more

I have grand memories of this place but it is much smaller than I remember. With all the new huge watermarks this is small but brings it is a historic landmark and a natural spring it is really cool. I highly recommend this stop while in South Dakota. read more

We spend hours at this beautiful place as often as we can. The water is so clear and the pool is so big and the rocks are so pretty that we often swim the afternoon away. The facility tries to make it as affordable as possible by offering evening and "stay and play" discounts. It is an historical facility. read more

What a neat little stop on our way through. It was a scorching day and after nearly two weeks of camping we were looking for a break from the heat. My kids and I stopped here and I'm so glad we did. They honored a coupon we brought in and we changed, showered, and jumped in. My kids were most fascinated by the river stones lining the bottom of the pool and my oldest had a grand time diving and collecting pretty ones which he'd drop and dive for again. The place was a little dingy here and there, but keeping on top of mineral deposits is difficult! I liked the separate pools for kids of varying ages but felt like there could have been another depth gradation between the deepest kiddie pool and the full pool. They have this depth gradation, but unfortunately it was completely taken over by a water ballgame. So we were either stuck in the shallow kiddie pools or in the part of the large pool too deep for any of my kids to touch. Only one kid is yet a strong swimmer so juggling the others was difficult once they got bored with the kiddie pools. They did love that frog slide for over an hour though. read more

They were so rude to us, we were receiving a senior and military discount both of which are well earned, and they made it very difficult, and made us feel undeserving and dumb. We did not even make it to the locker room with out the cashier and manager following us with harassment. We took a return and left. Never will we return! read more
